No interface sounds in 10.4.11

Complete reinstall of OS with updates.
I have the line out checked and everything seems to be working except.
Even with interface sounds checked, I don't hear the trash emptied or the mail sent.
Do these sounds still work in 10.4.11?
I don't have anything legacy or non conforming.

FWIW, they still work here.

  • Programatically enable-disable check box"play user interface sound effects"

    Hello All,
I have been Working on something where i need to disable the "play user interface sound effects" check box ( Under System preferences under sound panel ) for few seconds and then enable the same programically without any user interface appearing on the screen. I know something related using the Applescript however there is a user interface appearing there which doesn't serve the purpose please help with some solution. If you could provide the exact location of the plist file which holds this information then that could help as well.

    Hi !
I too have been working with the sounds ( Which i think is relates to @mit's query ) in an application and the problem is that when ever that application moves something to trash there is a sound which comes the sound of "throwing things in the trash". This is very annoying and i want to do something so that I can suppress that sound atleast for the time this application is on. Now is there some way where I can do this Programically . It would even be fine if I could turn off the user interface sounds completely for sometime and then bring them back on.
    Thanks In Advance !

  • How to turn off the touch interface sound?

    Model: HP Touchsmart IQ826t
Finally get to use this machine the way it was intended now that Windows 8 is out, but the touch interface sound is bothersome. Seems as though it should be the easiest thing in the world to turn off.. but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Ive searched the web high and low..even seen others ask this same question with no response whatsoever.
How do I turn off the touch interface sound?? (the 'beep' sound made when my finger makes contact with the screen) Ive tried going to the now updated 'Pen and Touch' (previously HP Touchsmart Configurations) settings under the 'Hardware and Sound' in the Control Panel and..nothing.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Lost interface sounds after connecting iPod

I recently connected a brand-new iPod Shuffle to my G5. I was copying music to the iPod in iTunes when my whole system hung up, spinning beachballs in every app. I had to do a hard reboot to bail out. Now I'm back, the iPod seems fine, but my interface sounds are gone. Startup chime okay, music & movie audio works fine, but no interface sounds. Only the Volume Up and Volume Down sounds. I can't even get the alert sounds to play when I click them in the Sound preferences. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Audio Interface/Sound Card?

    Hello,
I have the 15" macbook pro retina and I have recently aquired a weekly internet radio show where i am required to broadcast a livestream.
They use a ustream pro but yeh thats irrelavent.
My issue is that the macbook pro retina doesn't have a mic input, which i would usually plug in from the main mixer to aquire sound.
This has left me thinking i am going to have to do this via USB?
Im not a tech wizard when it comes to sound interfaces etc so i was wondering which USB interface would be the best to use for broadcasting?
I dont want to spend more than £100 to be honest and ive seen quite i few out there. But i dont want to buy it and then have compatability issues.
The setup at the studio i record at is 1210's and CDJs into a beringer mixer. we then run the behringer mixer into another pioneer mixer so control levels on the microphones etc so i would be running another cable from that mixer into the sound interface and then via usb into my macbook.
Tbh i think i was a stupid idea taking away the mic input on newer macbooks but heyho wcyd.
    Thanks

I know nothing about live broadcasting (is that what you're doing), ustream, etc. But I do know that you can get a good USB mic that will work with your computer. I just recently purchased a USB Blue Yeti (because it was almost half price) from MacMall and with a pop filter, it's just great for my purposes. You can alwso get it (in the UK) from Amazon UK.
    Hope this helps?

  • Guitar USB interface - sound problem

When I plug in the USB interface for my guitar the monitoring disapears. I get signal when I play the guitar, it records both my guitar or a virtual instrument but I can't get sound with either record or playback. When I unplug the USB everything works fine.

Try control-click on the record button. A drop down menu should give you the options montor on, monitor off or monitor on (no feed back protection). The record button is the one for the specific insrtument, located beside the mute/unmute track button. What guitar are you using to connect to your Mac?

  • Can't turn off user interface sound effects

Unchecking the box in system prefs has no effect at all. A few minutes later the box is checked again, and I have to keep hearing those annoying sounds. Any ideas why it keeps turning itself back on?

As some have noticed and posted other issues, [[https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1038464]], [[https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1038142]] , this relates to the Notification.
The notification is behind the sound and is controlled by System Preferences --> Notifications --> Thunderbird --> "Play sound for notifications". Tick that off and that's it.

  • Can not install driver for my USB E-MU interface sound card

    I have iMac mid 2011

Thank you BOSS for your quick response:
I took your advice and reinstalled my OS, but unfortunately stand-by mode is still causing errors. The only difference is that I managed to install the ATI driver normally and no BSOD, so far.
I'm not sure what is causing this, but my humble guess would be that my ATI card is an OEM card which is pulled form a working dell computer and these cards sometimes do not integrate well when installed on non dell motherboards... However, I need to find out that that is absolutely the case before I remove my vid. card from my system
There is a memory dump file that contains the info about this error but I can't decipher...I'm not a computer savvy, but you or someone here my find the root of the problem in that file. If that will be of any help to provide you with I will, next time.
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Sound Card vs Interface

Im currently using a MIDI/audio interface to connect my keyboard, laptop and speakers. I use the sounds from my keyboard with Logic, as well as using it as a controller keyboard. But Im upgrading to a desktop and was wondering if its worth getting a decent sound card or sticking with an interface. What are the pros/cons? I assume there are enough I/Os on the Mac Pro to facilitate this set up? Can you chose a sound card to put in the iMac?
Also, my current interface is 44.1khz, but my keyboard runs at 48khz. Is it a must to have an interface/sound card also at 48khz.

Finally!  I wrote a reply a few hours back but the fine folks at Adobe took the site down just before I hit send!  Lucky I saved it elsewhere because the "recovered post" was only the first couple of paragraphs.
    Anyhow, take 2.
Well, first off, your Mackie Onyx mixer has a firewire interface built in so it, in effect, becomes your sound card.  The one in your computer isn't involved in the recording/playback process at all (at least not unless you're trying to do something like monitor via the computer card rather than the mixer).  Therefore, buying another sound card/interface won't help at all.
Similarly, audio dropouts aren't a latency issue, at least not directly.  Latency is the delay in the audio as it does the round trip via you sound interface (mixer) and computer.  It's more of an issue for musicians trying to be beat accurate as they over dub tracks.  However, the latency controls could be affecting your drop out problem.  The latency control in Audition is effectively controlling the buffer size--and having a larger buffer (which increases latency) also gives you playback more protection against glitches when your computer gets busy doing something else.  So...the first thing to try is increasing the latency/buffer size on the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware menu.
Another thing to check is that you're using the latest drivers from Mackie--check their site and download/install the latest if there are some available.  If there's a choice, go for ASIO drivers rather than MME if there are some available.
Also, I mentioned your computer getting busy with other things--for serious sound work shut down everything else on your computer.  Pay special attention to networking, wifi, and anti virus software, all of which are usualy prioritised to grab processor cycles over your sound work.  Also make sure you shut down all system sounds.
Hope at least one of these suggestions works for you.

  • How do I remove the "whoosh" sound effect?

I recently downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and I like the added features but I'm getting annoyed by what seems to be random "whoosh" noises. How can I disable this sound effect? Thanks a bunch! kmart69

Try this System Preferences>Sounds>Sound Effects tab and deselect 'Play user interface sound effects'.
If it's in Mail go to Mail>Preferences>General tab and you can control sounds there (independently of the above suggestion).
I expect other applications may also have there own Sound Preferences that can be modified on an app to app basis.

  • ITunes alert sounds

I'm trying to set up a Mac Mini as a living room media player. Sound is a real issue with the big speakers. Not with music, movies or any other media, they sound fantastic. It's iTunes propensity to ignore the System settings for much, MUCH quieter alert and interface sounds. The volume up/down feedback noises are deafening and I can't seem to find a way to force them to use the System settings, or to turn them down. Or, to even make a choice of feedback sounds, or the "Holy Grail" would be to shut them off completely! What am I missing here? Thanks.

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

Also look at Settings>General>Sounds and make sure that all sounds have been turned on. And Settings>Notifications - check the settings in there for FaceTime and iMessage.

  • 1/8" input vs interface for guitars

I recently bought a Presonus Tube Pre amp. I've been recording guitars though it and into the 1/8" audio input on my Mac and it sounds pretty good. Does a USB interface sound significantly better or just somewhat better? I know this is a subjective question but I'm open to any opinions that you may have if you've used both methods. I know an interface sounds better but I'm trying to quantify the improvement over the 1/8" w/preamp method to see if it justifies the expense of buying an interface.

in my opinion no it won't make much difference
my MacBook Air is 1.7 and I use it more heavily than you, and everything works fine. sometimes a bit laggy but i think this is because of graphics
the one thing that stands out is the parallels thing, i don't think the processor would make much difference here but i would be sure to go with the 8GB RAM option

  • User interface effects even though it's deselected?

So I have "user interface sound effects" deselected in System Preferences, but whenever I'm using iTunes or other apps I still get SOME of them? Particularly if I go to delete something or get some type if "denial" interface effect, one that users the 'Basso' sound.
Even more odd is the fact that right now I am streaming music to a Jambox via bluetooth and when I hear an effect it only plays thru my Macbook speakers and not the bluetooth speaker.
Any ideas on how to make this stop?

    I reset the Test Tool.
Although I know how to access and change my Preferences...not sure about how
to go about trashing them.  You mean delete them?
Seems they're all in some default settings.  How would I remember all the
    box checks?
I did uncheck all 5  'Type' boxes with no change.
I also know that any other program with text (e-mail, facebook, Word etc)
all work fine, but just in case I unplugged the keyboard to a different USB
    port...no fix.
    I'm trashed still...
    Thanks for the reply Hunt!

  • System Sounds Disappeared

    Hello all,
This is probably a pretty basic question to most but for the recent Window's switcher it is baffling to me! Anyways, earlier this week a lot of the sounds that my mac made have disappeared. The speakers still work because I can play music and everything but sounds like the new mail sound, the no mail sound, the sound I got when I deleted things from iTunes are just not going off anymore.
I first thought that it was an iTunes problem but the program sounds extend to almost all of the programs on my mac. Is there any way to get them back? Thanks in advance for all of your help!
    -Alex

    They may be turned off.
Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences from under it. In System Preferences click on the Sounds icon (usually second row, far right). In the Sound preferences, click on Sound Effects.
In this window you'll see a list of the different alert sounds. Clicking the sounds should play them. Under the list of sounds is an Alert Volume slider. Make sure the slider is not all the way left (that means the volume is all the way down of course). Under the alert volume is a check box that says "Play user interface sound effects". If there's no check mark there, add one.
Click any (or all) of the sounds to see if you can hear them now. If not, up beside the Sound Effects tab you clicked earlier is an Output tab. Click it and report back with exactly what you see in there.
