No internal cam working on Maverick 10.9 Update

Hello all, hope someone can help, updated my 2011 Macbook air to 10.9 today and the internal cam no longer works, when I open Facetime or photo booth it says there is no connected cameras, went into the settings under camera and it says camera not found...reset the smc still nothing re installed Maverick 10.9 a second time still nothing.......tried another sugestion by downloading skype and low and behold the cam worked with skype just fine but not with any other internal app......any help greatly appreciated........thanks

Same here  IMAC Intel...installed Mac 10.9.1..bye bye I cam with Photo booth, Ichat video, Skype etc. TechTool Pro 7 shows cam and it works when tested by Tech tool Pro7, but in the applications?....Black screen with endlessly spinning icon.  One of the possible fixes is re-install Mac Mavericks but there are too many horror stories of bad things happening on re-install. Then there is a fix recommendation of  re-installing just the individual packages of applications like Photo Booth, but that requires a Hard Copy  which of course did not come with the download, so that is out. ANd Apple?? What about it Apple? (crickets chirping)

  • The internal camera on my macbook air stopped working.

    The internal camera on my macbook air stopped working. The camera is non available in settings also. Please help.

    Check if it is a hardware issue. If it is take the MBA to an Apple dealer.
    Apple menu / About the Mac / More Info / System Report.
    On the left, under Hardware, click on USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Check to verify the camera is listed. Should be called Built-in iSight. If it is not listed, take the computer in for a full diagnosis.
    If the camera is listed, click on Launch Pad then click on Photo Booth. Do you see anything?

  • My internal camera will no longer work??

    Hi
    For a few weeks now my internal camera does not seem to be working, or only for short periods of time.  When using skype or trying photo booth it tells me that the camera is not connected.  I have tried to reboot the mac but it does not seem to solve the problem, Any help would be great!
    Thanks

    Use the steps in this article from Apple's knowledge base to start troubleshooting your camera.
    Best of luck.

    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and
        try again.  If the iSight still does not work, continue.
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
       suggestions do not help you, (the PMU/SMC "reset" suggested
       there often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
       download and apply the latest Combo Update for
       your OS.  Currently, the latest SL Combo is here:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
    Properly applying the Combo version of updates
    can sometimes correct problems like yours.

  • How do I get my internal camera to connect and turn on?

    My internal camera is not connected and I need to know how to get my camera to turn on.  Thanks for the input.

    Welcome to  Discussions, mission hills.
    If you have not already done so, shut down Mac and then restart. Restarting may fix it.
    If not, use shldr2thewheel's good http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
    (BTW - Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
    If your trouble persists, when you post back here also tell us whether your cam works to record with Apple apps like Photo Booth and QuickTime Player.  If not, verify the symptoms are EXACTLY the same in more than one user account.
    Be sure to test more than one Apple app in more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account for this test.  If you do not have more than one user account for the testing, create a new one now.  If you need help, here's how to do it in your Mac OS: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468  (A "Standard" account is all you need for testing.)
    We await your status update

  • How does one use an external microphone with the internal camera?

    I want to use the internal camera because I don't have anything better but I want to use an external mic to record video and sound simultaneously, for a video blog. How does one accomplish this? I'm getting no help from the manual.

    Try this. Connect your external mic, either through the audio line in port or, into a USB port if it is a USB mic and then go to System Preferences under the Apple and select the Sound icon under Hardware. Click on your mic shown in the list of input devices.
    Hope that works for you.

  • How do I get the built in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record voice.

    How do I get the built-in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record sound.

    I always assummed that the mic was part of iSight (intertwined?).  The mic is situated right next to iSight.  It would seem to me the solutions would be the same some what.
    Regarding the OP, I also suspect his/her problem is hardware.  It's rather unusual for the internal mic to not work yet the iSight does.

  • Why won't my mac internal microphone work?

    Why won't my mac internal microphone work?

    I just found and removed a small piece of sticky tape which was covering the mic. The mic is on the top surface of a mac - you can only just see a lighter coloured small round circle in line with the camera on the top narrow surface. My problem was sorted despite all other help and just before I gave up.  Check no-one has posted a sticky message, camera cover or even an ornament over your mic. How many folk know where the mic is?

    It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
    i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

  • Photo Booth flash not working in Maverick or Yosemite

    I have noticed that the photo booth flash in Maverick on my Macbook Pro and in Yosemite on my iMac is not working Screen flash is enabled on both.
    So this is happening on two different computers. Does anyone know how to fix this? All my photos are so dark on both of my computers using Maverick and Macbook Pro.
    It works fine on system 10.6.8 though.
    Has anyone else had this problem too?
    Martha

    In case anyone is interested in your screen flash not working in the Yosemite or Maverick photo booth application, I finally called Apple today and he kept insisting it was working on his - I asked him to take a pic with the screen flash enabled and then disable it and he said it came out the same. And rationalized that it was because he was in a well lit room. I kept telling him in my old photo booth from system 10.6.8 that my face was lit up and my husband had reflections from his glasses so we went from him wanting me to reinstall my software (I refused since both computers were having the same problem - one using Yosemite and the other using Maverick)  to him finally going into HIS partitioned disk that has system 10.6.8 on it to discover that the flash there reflected off HIS glasses too. Bottom line is he admitted there has to be some flaw that prevented the photo booth flash from working for Maverick and Yosemite. Whew, finally validation!

  • Bridge not recognizing internal camera memory

    I've just transitioned my workflow back to a Mac environment (10.9.5) and have begun relying on Bridge CS6 to import my Canon Vixia HF20 AVCHD files directly from the camera. It works beautifully with anything saved to the SD card. However, Bridge won't recognize the camera's 32 GB internal memory. iMovie does, but I'd prefer to keep the video files in their native format. (I don't have Premiere.)
    Any guesses as to the problem and if it's surmountable? I've really enjoyed the Bridge interface. (Much better than the Windows software Canon ships.) But those 32 GB contain my kids' toddlerhood, so I'd really like to back them up!! Thank you for your insight.
    cheers,
    Kristi

    I'm not sure if Bridge is using a Photoshop script. In Bridge, I choose File>Get photos from camera. I then use the Advanced Rename options to save the files according to date and time. Bridge will recognize an SD card if placed in the camera but will not recognize the internal camera drive (even absent a card).
    Bridge imports the entire original file structure, which is partly why I like using it. But my searches show I'm probably an anomaly, as no one else seems to be running into this problem. (And Canon has a whole line of prosumer HD recorders with internal memory. They just ship with the world's most awful Windows software.)
    That is exactly how you call the Photo Downloader script.  :-/
    sigh…
    Bridge imports NOTHING.  Its just a file browser, nothing more, nothing less.  It's nothing more than the old Photoshop File Browser, renamed to accommodate the illusory, fabricated concept of the "suites".  See below.
    Photoshop opens nothing, edits nothing, saves nothing.  Nothing is ever "imported" into Bridge.
    Bridge just hands over the files to the appropriate application, whether that be Photoshop, ACR, Illustrator or even MS Word.
    It does not keep its own libraries, it doesn't store images.  It just shows you your files wherever you or other applications put them.  That's why you think "imports the entire original file structure"; it's just showing you the original "structure", whatever you mean by that, pretty much as shown by Windows file Explorer or Apple's Finder.
    It also can call on various scripts, such as the "Get Pictures From Camera" script.
    Anyway, I come here to help users, not to debate uninformed posters.
    I'm out of this thread, but not before saying that to me any and all Windows software is indeed "the world's most awful Windows software".
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
    The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
    The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.
  • ICloud mail not working in Mavericks
    I can't add an iCloud mail address - it won't check it in preferences.  What should I do?
    Hi. I've already tried reinstalling it. But still find there's more bugs in it than what it's worth. I have to try to work out what the benefits of the update were and so I am unable to find a single benefit. I use FileMaker Pro which is an apple program. Since updating to mavericks I had to purchase the updated version of FileMaker which is the only one that works with mavericks. Having done that I have had problems with fonts not displaying. Contacted the very helpful FileMaker support who were also baffled but it was a known problem. The response that came back from apple - install Microsoft office as the fonts that that instals works with FileMaker. What a crazy response, unfortunately they didn't work even. I have been an apple user for almost 30 years and I can't remember a single OS update that has caused me so many problems as mavericks. No wonder it was free
  • Internal camera failure after software updates...first skype couldn't......
    Hello!
    I am having internal camera failure after software updates...first skype couldn't find the camera, and now photo booth also says camera is not connected. Its a brand new MacBook Pro which has been working fine for a month, but after a software update (the blinking message said i had 13 new things to update...you know what I'm talking about right?) all of a sudden Skype couldnt find a camera, so i went to the skype community and tried some things (like trashing skype) but now photo booth says no camera detected, which is weird cause the camera is built into the computer..
    Please help!
    Thanks
    O
    First, reset the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    If that doesn't help, then take it to an Apple Store for examination.
  • IMac G5 w/ internal camera
    I am working on an iMac G5 20" w/ internal camera and when I try to run a video chat session in iChatAV I get a message saying the camera is in use by another Application. Rebotting doesn't solve the problem and Activity View doesn't show any processes running that would be using the camera so I'm a bit stumped. I even backed up my HD and did a clean install of OSX thinking it may be a software conflict of some sort but it didn't solve it either. Pulling the front bezel off the machine and unplugging and replugging the camera gets it going briefly but then eventually I end up getting the same message again that the camera is already in use.
    Is anyone else experiencing an issue like this and if so, has anyone come up with a solution?
    I'm actually an Apple Certified Desktop/Portable Technician so no worries on the warranty but using the Service Provider Support Channels was of absolutely no help. The Apple Support technicians haven't even acknowledged this as an issue and suggested I replace the camera board. I didn't buy this solution as it is happening on other machines on the network so I came here to see if there were an others experiencing the same issues. Turning off Classic and rebooting the machine worked. It's a bit of a pain to do this since one of our accounting apps still requires Classic but it's a workaround we'll have to accept.
    cheers
