No internal speaker drive

macbook pro os 10.6.8
all in sudden when I started up it asked me to restart because it has some problem. I restarted then this time no start up sound.
speaker icon on right top is grey and I am unable to change anything.
open the preference for input and output, from both no drive listed.
However when I connect my usb speaker its drive appears in driver list and sound come out no problem.
I tried with earphone but there is no sound , it does not show any internal speaker driver in sound preference.
Can i get just internal speaker drive from mac support free of charge, just like we can always do for windows PC?
or do I need to reinstall OS? Where can I get OS ?

Tried replacing the battery,  This has yeilded no improvement (the old battery checked out fine on a digital volt metre)
What do people recomend i do next, bearing in mind that the primary objective is to retrieve a load of files off the hard drive and burn them to CD.
-Should i try removing and reinserting the CPU? and all the other components?
-Should i try getting a cheap secondhand MB/CPU to make the system work?
-Should i admit defeat and take the HD into a computer repair shop and ask them to make a cd of all the documents?
-Is it possible to add the HD to my own computer and access it as if it were a second drive?  (my girlfriend would kill me if i messed up our computer, and I hear that having SATA makes drive configuration very complicated)
Any other suggestions?
thanks again

  • IPod Classic 160gb (7th Gen) making odd noises through internal speaker

I bought an iPod Classic off a friend, and within a day or so of syncing it to my iTunes it started to make this strange "chirp" noise through the internal speaker. It is the same noise the iPod makes if you boot into Diagnostic Mode. It was making this noise randomly when browsing songs or scrolling through the main menu.
I had a warranty through the store it was purchased at so I exchanged it for a new one. After syncing it with iTunes again it made the same noise through the internal speaker. I turned the "Clicker" sound off in settings to see if that would eliminate the noise, and it did, until I synced the iPod a few minutes later and it made the noise once, again.
I've seen other posts on the web with people having this issue, but no solutions. Anybody have any ideas? Or is it just something I have to live with, or keep exchaging iPods?

It seems to be making this noise whenever it has to load information. If I scroll through the cover flow really quickly and get to a section of albums that haven't had their art loaded, it makes the noises as it loads the art.
Seems like any time the iPod has to find and display information from the hard drive that it doesn't have cached it makes the noise. Is this normal or should I be seeking another replacement? I don't want a bad hard drive on my hands.

  • Intermittent beeping sound from my PC internal speaker. How to disable it?

I have a HP Pavilion 1070d PC.  I get an intermittent beeping sound from my PC internal speaker.  It seems to engage when the hard drive starts working when it's been down for a while.  How do I disable the beeping sound?

    Domgoh, welcome to the forum.
Normally, the beeps that come from a computer are BIOS beep codes.  They are warnings that something is wrong with the computer.  At the bottom of the page in the link that I provided are codes for different motherboards.  Review them to see if this is what you are receiving.

  • 890FXA-GD70 Internal Speaker

I built a computer using this MoBo to run some stock/futures trading software. One of the programs uses the small internal speaker that's connected to the motherboard to emit a single beep when prices change. I DO hear this small speaker "beep" during the initial start up (bios load) so I'm confident it's working, but I cannot seem to get any sound (beep) from the speaker from within the program I just described. I'm running Windows 7 Pro (64) and Windows device manager says, "the device is working properly." I do have a "proper" sound system and that is working fine.  I've learned that some programs (like skype) allow the user to use this internal speaker to "ring in" so if/when the user is using (the proper) sound system (say with head phones) the "ring in" is still audible. I have no other programs that utilize this internal speaker and was wondering if others had any similar issues ... and if so what procedures anyone took to resolve those issues.

This is an email I received from the Trading Software Company in response to my query. I took the liberty to XXXX out the company name as a professional courtesy (I don't think it matters).
    Hi,
I am sorry you did not get the appropriate answer sooner.  I have trained my staff on this matter in the past, but perhaps they forget the details of the answer.
The Beep feature in XXXX Windows was based on a Windows API call to a sound function where we could pass the frequency parameter and a duration parameter.
This would play the sound through the little speaker.    Starting with Windows platforms around Windows XP and later, ie Windows 7, the API function was removedand no longer available.  The article you sent in your other email documents that change in the Window operating systems quite well.
(This is the Article I sent)
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/larryosterman/archive/2010/01/04/what-s-up-with-the-beep-driver-in-windows-7.aspx
Thus the functionality going away is a result of the operating system and not a result of any change in XXXX Windows.  I have looked hard in the past for a work around and not found one.
Thus, I am sorry to say, the Beep feature will not be available in the newer operating systems.  Yes there is a Windows Beep, but not the sound API call where we could play a frequency for a duration.   Since this is due to operating system changes, we are choosing to eliminate offering the Beep check box on the chart property forms in the redesigned XXXX program called XXXX.  This will keep users from having the hint of a feature that is most likely unavailable because most users will be on newer operating systems as time passes.

  • Sony VAIO Flip internal speaker not working why?

    Hi,
First time posting, first time Sony laptop user. I've had this Sony VAIO Flip 15 - SVF15N17CXB, laptop for a few months now everything has been working fine. Til lately I been hearing static on my laptop when I played music or videos. I managed to look up some of the common problems and adjusted my audio options til I got it fixed, and it worked.
Until now, where I can only hear from he left internal speaker on my laptop. It was working fine earlier, but now it seems to have given out. I don't know if I blew it out or maybe I messed up the settings. I've tried updating my driver it says I have he latest one. I've uninstalled the driver, reboot my system, and it automatically reinstalled it, but still nothing.
I'm not sure if I need to get it repaired or etc. I would take it to the Sony store, but they permanently closed all their locations in Canada. Please help, it is greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Eddie

  • MSI GeForce4 TI4200 8X 128MB - PC Internal Speaker

    My HW :
    ASUS P4S8X (+512 DDRAM)
    INTEL P4 2400+
    MSI GeForce4 TI4200 8X 128MB
My problem is that when playing :-) D3D games, the PC internal speaker makes BEEPS continously with irregular intervals.
No problem with MS office applications .
    No problem with DVD .
The motherboard BIOS is updated .
The VGA driver is too ( version 4107 ) .
I don't want to cut off the PC speaker .
Can anyone help me to resolve this problem ?
    Thnxs in advance.

When warning (beeps with regular interval = about 500ms), the sound comes from the external speakers and I can see the "alert" in the history .
My problem is that these BEEPS comes from the internal speaker, and it sounds like this = 5 beeps in one second, two seconds nothing, 3 beeps in one second, long silence, then it starts again.
    This drives me grazy.

  • Mute internal speaker in Windows XP?

I have external speakers connected to the Mini through the headphones port. But the internal speaker isn't muted. Just about every other computer I've ever used behaves differently -- plug something into the headphones port and the internal speaker goes mute.
This is in WindowsXP -- I haven't had a chance to test the behaviour in Mac OS. (Though I think this is a hardware issue and independent of the OS)

If you used the boot camp program to install Windows, it is a problem with the audio driver that apple uses for windows. It does not currently allow the built in audio port to switch off the internal speaker when something is plugged into it.
It behaves properly in Mac OS.

  • XW 4600 Workstation sound mapped through internal speaker?

    Windows XP Professional SP3
This computer is only bout 2 months old, and has had this problem from the beginning:
The sound... that is, the BIOS/POST beeps as well as system sounds, music... *ALL* sound... plays through the internal speaker.
I plugged a set of external speakers into the green jack on the rear, but there was no sound from them at all no matter what settings I tried in eith the windows mixer, or the hp-provided realtek audio manager.  I even disabled the'system speaker' in windows hardware manager.
I re-installed both the soundcard driver and the realtek audio manager, and that solved the problem... sound from the external speakers, and only the BIOS/POST beep from the internal speaker.
But about once a week, powering up the computer in the morning will revert to all sound coming only from the internal speaker.
And, re-installing the driver and the realtek audio manager solves the problem.
Keep in mind - no further settings or adjustments need to be made, simply re-installing the driver and audio manger is all it takes.
This week, I went to the HP live support site and described this problem.
Their solution was to have the motherboard replaced.
After the onsite tech completed the replacement, there is now sound out of BOTH the internal speaker as well as the external speakers.
He did not know how to fix this, and couldnt find any software settings that should cause this.
Today, hp live support instructed me to unplug the system speaker from the motherboard... which, of course, stopped the sound from coming out of that speaker.
My question is this:  Why would the sound be mapped through this speaker in the first place, and is there some obscure setting somewhere that needs to be disabled?
    Thank you.

So a week ago, HP live support told me that this issue has been closed, and then told me that they are still looking for a solution to my problem.
Ummm... Which is it?  If it's closed, then how are they still working on it?
I currently have NO sound from the speaker jack, and no sound (obviously) from the system speaker.
Does anyone else know how to resolve this issue?

  • I want sound to go to line out but each new boot it selects internal speaker

I select sound to go to line out but with each new boot it reverts internal speaker. How can I "save" my sound preference??

    Hi Del.
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

[hp dv6358se] Internal speaker plays sound intermittent(every 15s). CPU use = Max when audio driver enabled. CPU use = normal ranges when audio driver is disabled. Head phone jack only plays out of one speaker. Lastly when head phones are pluged cpu usage returns to normal. Is there a possible software fix for this issue?

    snarfer,
You can normally mute the microphone in the Surround Mixer (that's provided in the software). As long as you leave it as the recording source it should still work in your voice software, but won't sound over the speakers.
Was the card always in the last PCI slot or did you move it there? If it always was there, try the slot just above it in case that particular slot shares resources with certain motherboard functions/components.
Do you still have sound problems when the microphone is muted, or taken away completely?

I am playing music from Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome - music comes out nice on internal speakers OR headphone jack (connected to speakers or headphones).
I am also playing Starcraft II, the Audio is also awesome on eather headphone jack or internal speakers.
So far I can get Starcraft II to play on headphone output only and my music on the internal speakers, but not the other way around.
For this instance I'd like the in game Audio to play on my Laptop Speakers Only and my Music to play on Headphone (external analog speaker) Output only.
    Please advise.
Also, I must  figure out how to play both Headphone output and Internal Speakers to play together.
My ASUS Notebook PC has an Audio Console that allows me to designate which programs play with headphone output and/or internal speaker but my HP notebook does not have that.
    Please help! :/

it seems that m1r3k found a very good workaround, at least for the Mid 2010 Mac mini models (that I'm using right now). I don't know if it works also with more recent Mac mini models.
Re: After upgrading to lion, cant select HDMI sound setting
Open Audio MIDI Setup.app in /Applications/Utility, click the + (plus) button in the bottom left corner of the window and choose "Create Multi-Output Device". In the new device settings tick the HDMI "Use" checkbox and you're done. Simply go to the usual System Preferences Audio panel and choose the newly created device, without the need to unplug the audio cable from the back of the Mac mini. You can also name the new audio device as you want.
    NOTE:
This is only a workaround for a deliberate choice made by Apple on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and beyond:
Mac mini: About HDMI audio and headphones
Please let Apple know (here or here) how this has made things unnecessary awkward for users and needs to be fixed (these forums don't count, they are not read by Apple's employees)!

  • Hi,does anyone know how the Iwatch will play music when it is not near a bluetooth device as it is stated in the feature setting..Icloud streaming, internal hard drive?

Hi,does anyone know how the Iwatch will play music when it is not near a bluetooth device as it is stated in the feature setting..Icloud streaming, internal hard drive?

I did not hear them state the feature requirements directly in the streaming even but there are statements on the Apple website that clearly say that an iPhone is necessary.  I'm guessing that other than Bluetooth for pairing with the iPhone, it's just not technically possible to fit any other radios such as WiFi or LTE into that form factor or battery capacity.  I don't even remember them mentioning if it had a speaker or could pair directly with bluetooth headphones.
While I'm hoping that the watch has a reasonable stand-alone feature set, they didn't make it clear what exactly it can and can't do without an iPhone nearby.  I also hope that they communicate this better in the coming days.

  • Light beep or squeek from internal speaker

I have a new H8 1417C desktop computer. (about 2 months old)  The computer makes an intermitant squeek.  I say squeek because it is not a full beep like an error code.  It makes the noise intermitantly.  I can not make the noise happen.  Sometimes the computer is idle with no one even in the room and it will make the noise. It appears to come from the computers internal speaker.
Other than that the computer works fine.  Boots up fine, everything works. but the beep (squeek) is starting to get on my nerves.
    Any suggestions?

    Try the following steps.
    1. Open up device manager.
    2. Locate your audio driver.
    3. Right click and uninstall the driver.
    4. Go to the toolbar in device manager and select "scan for hardware changes."
    5. After it completes, reboot the computer.
Try the audio now and let me know if it continues to have the same issue.

  • How to move an iTunes library from the internal hard drive to another bootable disk.

I got two Mac OS X installations on my i Mac system. One on the internal hard drive (320 Gb), that has been there since the iMac was bought 3 years ago, upgraded to Lion on 2 August. (call that INT) . I have a USB external drive, and recently bought a firewire Lacie external drive (2Tb), so to boot from there when I can, with hard drive space getting tight this year. I successfully installed another copy of Lion on LACIE.
Then I went to work to transfer my iTunes library, which the media files were optioned to store on the USB drive. Intending to transfer both the music and video files, and the megadata ( playlists, ratings, playcounts ) I found the media files and the iTunes library file and the .xml document in my iTunes folder from INT. I made a new folder in the USB drive, and copied the contents from the old iTunes folder to that new folder. I re-started in LACIE, and found my empty iTunes folder. I copied over to the new iTunes folder, then opened iTunes. My eyes saw the music library to the same number of items, with the playlists etc showing.
However, I tried to sync an iPod Nano, and a window came up saying 100 songs could not be copied to the iPod because they could not be found. After ejecting the iPod I tried to play a song from iTunes, and the screen filled with exclamation points. A small window came up, asking for a password to open "sparsebundle" and my name. I entered my password for the administrator's log-in and it said try again with the password. Without knowing what password to put in, I clicked Cancel, and got another small window asking to locate the file. Then clicked Cancel again, not knowing where to search. All the media folders were showing after quitting iTunes and opening Finder .
I re-booted into INT, and opened iTunes. The library was still there. I synced my iPod again, ejected it, played 3 songs on the iPod, synced again, ejected it again, and opened the playlist "Recently Played". It showed up okay with no problems. So my iTunes library in INT is alright.
Has anyone got any idea how to make the transfer into LACIE and get it running alright, or what went wrong with what I did ?
In the meantime I will empty my LACIE iTunes library folder's contents to the trash, and securily empty the trash .

Solved the issue without using the trash . I tried to consolidate the library in LACIE, then clicked on any exclamation-mark song and tried to locate the file. Repeating those steps 3 or 4 times cleared it up. That was confirmed when I synced the entire library on a iPod Classic, and showed up no problems after syncing the Nano.
What went wrong was perhaps to fail to consolidate the library at first .

  • I'm running Final Cut Express 2. How can I move entire project and application from one internal hard drive to another? Ran out of space on one drive. Thanks.

I'm running Final Cut Express 2. My video project is 95% done and I've run out of space on my 500g internal hard drive. How can I (1) move the complete FCE program and video to my unused 250g internal hard drive and operate it from there and (2) how do I then purge all the FCE info from the 500g drive without losing anything from the 250 drive?
Also, is it possible to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 when the project is finished? If so, how? I now know this all should have been done before I started. Thanks for the help.

    1. You can't move the application. It must remain on the system drive. Move your capture scratch folder to the external FireWire drive and use the reconnect function in the project.
    2. What's the media 16:9 or 4:3?
