No internal video after 10.9.4 update (Pro 4,1)

Upgraded to 10.9.4 on my MacBook Pro and none of the apps can access the video camera.  The light goes on but no picture!  Any ideas?

  • Can not start up with internal HD after 10.9.4 update

After installing 10.9.4 update, can no longer startup from internal HD on late 2012 iMac, 2.9 ghz, 8 gb ram, 1 TB internal
Used Disk Utility to starup from external 10.9.3 drive and that works fine.
Loaded the manual 10.9.4 update onto external, and tried updating the 10.9.4 internal. No luck.
Attempting internal startup with 10.9.4 results in black screen, followed by several seconds of lit screen and spinning icon, then back to black screen.
After starting up on 10.9.3 external, 10.9.4 internal shows mounted, files appear fine, and can copy back and forth. Just can't start with that drive, and can't risk updating external 10.9.3 to 10.9.4 until I find out and fix the problem.
    Thank you

This was reported by another user:
I had the same issue with my 2008 iMac and Apple support walked me through the fix yesterday...
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).
Apparently it's an issue with an automatic update that never quite got past the login screen.
If the above doesn't help, then move on to these:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

  • Problem with video after installing ipod software update 1.2

I recently downloaded the ipod software update version 1.2 for my ipod. It seems to have changed the video screen output as some of my videos now do not play full screen and instead have black boarders down each side of the screen while playing.
At first I thought switching off the widescreen option in the video settings screen would fix the problem but doing this cuts off a large portion of the picture at the top and bottom of the screen. I can only assume this change in screen ratio came with the update and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix this problem or if it will be fixed in the next ipod software update with some kind of option to switch screen ratios in the video settings menu.
I would like to keep updating my ipod but have since reset it so icould get full screen video playback and have been avioding the updates incase it happens again.

hmmmm. were those videos that you converted yourself
with QT Pro, alg2? if so, it might be worth checking
on the possibility from this document:
QuickTime Pro: DV format movies may require
    adjustment for iPod
(if the source files were DV PAL, that can produce
the "bars down the side" effect ... unlike NTSC where
you get the "bars along the top" effect shown in the
    graphic in the document.)
I did convert them myself but but not with quicktime pro will this solution still apply if were to purchase QT Pro or should i contact the company i bought my programme from.

  • I have no video after wndows 8.1 updates

How can I install the video drivers, when I cant access my PC via a black screen?

First of all you need to get into safemode
for that press f8 or del key while starting the computer
then you will get many options there you must go to safemode
Secondly ,after getting to safemode go to 1.control panel ->2.Device Manager->3.Disable AMD HD Graphics
    Thats all
then restart your computer to get into normal mode
May be if you upgrade your amd hd driver your black screen problem will be gone

  • Stuttering audio video after 10.8.1 update

Ever since I updated my Mid 2011 27" i7 imac to 10.8.1, the video keeps experiencing terrible stuttering. It affects DVD's, YouTube clips, and fully downloaded movies. I've seen a few other mentions of this on some forums, but nothing from Apple. Does anyone know what's going on?

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • No Video After Mavericks Upgrade on Mac Pro

I have a 2008 Mac Pro (A1186 - EMC 2180). It previously worked fine running Mac OS X Lion. Based on information gathered from friends and various forums, I upgraded the OS to Mavericks. It worked for a bit but, after a restart, there is no video. The computer powers on but I do not hear the standard Mac OS X tone. At this point, I am only concerned about getting the system up and running on any recent OS (Snow Leopard or above). Whether or not I can get Mavericks on it is secondary.
I'm using a Windows-based keyboard and mouse. My theory is if I can wipe the hard drives, I can get another Mac OS installed from a clean start. Any thoughts?

The default graphics cards for the 2008 are long past their prime. Failure in the graphics card is common.
Once Mac OS X is loaded, the Caps-Lock light is under software control.
Command Eject will bring up this familiar dialog box, whose default (by pressing Return) is Shut Down:
The simplest thing your Mac can do is boot with the Alt/Option key held down. This should draw a gray screen and present an icon for each potentially-bootable volume. It takes a few minutes to finish drawing.

  • Yoga 13 after Win 8.1 update - apps for Netflix, CNN, ESPN, etc. will not play video - WTH?

Can someone point me to where I can download the right driver(s) / updates that fix thw Windows 8.1 mess that crippled video playback in the Modern/Metro Win8 interface please?
I had other issues with wireless (which I fixed by buying a Linsys 802.11ac USB nub - finally decent range & performance), but really want to get this Win 8.1 video playback issue fixed.
    OS is Windows 8.1
    Version 6.3.9600 Build 9600
    System Model 20175
    System SKU Lenovo_MT_20175
    BIOS Version/Date Lenovo 66N55WW 2/28/2013
    BIOS Mode UEFI
HD Graphics 4000 Driver date 10/1/2013
    Driver Version 10.18.10.3316
Monitor driver is generic PnP Monitor by Microsoft, dated 6/21/2006
    Driver Version 6.3.9600.16384
    Purchased the system May, 2013.
Very disappointed that Microsoft/Intel/Lenovo forced this 8.1 "upgrade" on us without having checked it for flaws in operation like this.  I've read other people having this, and similar problems, so any fixes / suggestions / links are greatly welcomed.

(Note that all of the following applies only to the Yoga 13)
I think the previous reply is inaccurate in several ways.  Let me address each one:
"Seems like the fix for many of our Windows 8.1 update issues is to roll back to the Windows 8 drivers Lenovo offers on its site (Conexant Audio Driver in this case)"
This isn't quite correct.  There is no need to "roll back" to any previous driver versions.  What actually happened with the Windows 8.1 upgrade is that the Windows installation process reinstalled or refreshed all of the drivers in the system, and for some reason this driver installation process screwed up and left some drivers not functioning correctly. In almost all cases the solution is to simply reinstall that driver with the current/same version. The Conexant driver is the poster child for this problem.  The version of the driver that comes with the Windows 8.1 upgrade is the same as the version on the Lenovo site.  However it is often necessary to reinstall this driver to get it installed correctly.
I just want to reiterate that this is not a version problem, it's a problem with the way 8.1 reinstalled the drivers. This need to reinstall drivers affected people differently, with some people needing to reinstall other drivers as well, such as the Intel Thermal Framework drivers, etc.
Windows 8.1 comes with newer versions (also newer than the reposted drivers on the Lenovo site) of the network Wifi drivers that for my system have been an improvement. However I have not experienced a lot of the Wifi issues that others have reported.  The only issue I have had with Wifi is that it was always a bit slow to connect after coming out of sleep mode (30-60 seconds). After the 8.1 upgrade my Wifi connects very fast (less than 5 seconds).
Windows 8.1 also came with an updated Intel graphics driver that is newer than the one on the Lenovo site.  I am not aware of any problems with this new version.
My Yoga 13 is now functioning perfectly after the 8.1 update, although I did have to perform the reinstall of the Conexant drivers, and I had to reapply the fix for the touch screen missing the first swipe.  I recommend the list of Yoga 13 fixes mentioned on this site.
"Microsoft or Lenovo should add a setting to the "Configure Windows Update" options - it should be "Wait 6 months after the update is published for it to stabilize"
I don't agree with this as the drivers that come with 8.1 weren't unstable or problematic. Again, the problem is with the 8.1 installation process, and I do agree that Microsoft should work on fixing that.  It has certainly caused a lot of people some grief, but it also seems that we have a solution which is the driver reinstalls.
I also don't recommend turning off Windows update.
Finally, it may be that some of the issues you bulleted are more serious than I am aware, as I haven't had all of these problems.  I would like to know more about these:
"Kill the video / audio in Windows Apps (aka "Modern" interface) - Netflix, ESPN videos, CNN videos, etc.  "
This is certainly a common problem. At least we have the fix for this (reinstall the Conexant drivers).
"Degrade WLAN performance (range and speed)"
I am skeptical that 8.1 is responsible for Wifi issues.  Seems like in general the new 8.1 network stack is better.  I know that many people had wifi issues prior to the update.
"Fuzz out the resolution / display such that Display has to be turned down from 150% to "small""
I don't know about this issue, so I would like to hear more.
Mess up touchpad, keyboard, tablet-mode keyboard
This again seems more like a problem that existed before 8.1, as many people had issues with this.  The most consistent solution seems to be disabling the "ymc" service.

  • Thunderbolt dock fails to initialize video after update

Yosemite continues to be the buggiest OS X upgrade I've used in quite some time, if not ever.
After this most recent update my 2560x1440 display does not come up when I get to the office and plug in my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina and Belkin's original Thunderbolt dock. I tried it with a newer dock (Elgato's Thunderbolt 2 dock) and experienced the same issue. Anytime I disconnect and reconnect I have to power cycle the entire dock to get my video back. I am using a mini displayport to display port cable plugged into the dock's free thunderbolt port.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
    CleanMyMac - Uninstall
    CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.

If it's showing a different Apple ID, you need to either update them from that Apple ID or delete and redownload them when signed into a different one, which may require repurchasing paid applications.
