No Internet acces or only one computer at the time

Hi everybody,
I'm a freelance IT supported and I'm new to Apple. I studied and always worked with PC but with people having more and more Mac at home I had to adapte.
I have a problem at a customer's place which is kinda hard to explain. I'm unable to get Internet access on any devices connected to the WIFI. I tryed sevral setup and the best I can get is "one-device-at-the-time" (the last device that connects to the WIFI). I did screen captures of this setup.
The setup isD-Link DSL-320B Modem (set as DHCP) --> AirPort Extreme (WAN Port) --> wireless devices (iMac, iPad, iPhone, PC, etc.)
Unfortunatly, all the screen captures are in French (I'm in Switzerland) but since it's not literature, I think you can all get what's writen bellow.
mode pont = bridge mode (I think this is how I actualy got one computer to access the web)
I don't understand why the address is 169.254.xx.xx. Shouldn't it get a 192.168.1.x since the D-Link is setup as DHCP (see next screen capt) ? The DNS servers are the ones provided on the ISP info sheet but I don't think it's necessary to put them here, right ?
strangely, the IP range didn't show up when I did the screen capture but it's 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254
I spent two unsuccessful hours last time, i'd realy like to make it right next time so I can actualy send them an invoice and eat more than pastas ;-)
thanks for your help,
Julien

Hiya.. thanks for the lovely screen shots.. this is hard and would be impossible without them.
Something odd is happening... I don't see anything wrong with your setup.
What I do see is dlink doing its dinky toy dlink type stuff.
The AE should have got an IP from the dlink. 192.168.1.x and as you have it bridged it should also pass packets to the dlink which would get IP for the wireless.. nothing wrong in any of that.
It is failing .. and obviously not passing packets correctly on the ethernet link to the Dlink.
DHCP discovery at the very least is failing..
Look at your last screenshot of the dlink setup. Look at the IP handed to the AE. 83.79.62.39
Where did that come from.. it says the AE is a client but the IP is some odd thing.
Now did you happen to set the AE in DMZ of the dlink or did you use some other method to try and force this to work.. at some point it is passing .. perhaps an old public IP to the AE.. which is not correct.
Your tech-it-easy computer plugged into the dlink is getting the correct LAN ip 192.168.1.2 clearly the AE has failed.
I recommend you reset the Dlink to factory and redo the setup.
If the ISP uses PPPoE, then setup the dlink in bridge mode and run the PPPoE client on the AE.. this is the best method.. but PPPoE is seldom used in Europe for whatever reason.
If you use pppoa or ipoa or other dsl authentication then you must keep using the AE in bridge.
Go back to the fundamental problem.. it is not passing packets over ethernet correctly. The AE is gigabit unless it is very old. Dlink I am guessing is 100mbit. There are occasional hitches.. if you have a switch 10/100 drag it along with you and plug it between the dlink and the AE.. and see if it then gets IP correctly. Check with another ethernet cord.. all the stuff you know.
In the AE you can set wan port speed.. but you will need the AE in router mode.. ie it is NATting a public IP, but you will get double NAT.. as a test you can go for that.
Use 100mbps full duplex.
Of course you don't want to double NAT permanently.
If you don't make progress.. post again..
There is a manual way of bridging the AE.. we normally call it wan bypass.
It is complicated so try the above before you do that.
BTW,,, when the one computer does work, check what IP it is getting.. is it  83.79.62.39.. or whatever the public IP. If so the AE is definitely set wrongly in the DMZ of the dlink.

  • Only one user at the time can execute VE01 (due to blockage of VEIAV)

    Hi,
As I understand it only one user at the time can execute VE01 (or MEIS for arrivals). If someone is already executing the VE01 transaction the error-message "Table VEIAV is blocked by user XX" appears. It does not matter if one tries to execute it for different legal entities - no parallel processing seems to be possible.
This is a huge limitation for a global concern with many entities operating in the same SAP instance. Does anyone recognize this problem and are there any ways to get around it? It does not make sense that dispatches (VE01) and arrivals (MEIS) cannot be executed for several organizational units at the same time in parallel?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mats Hansson

    yes I know this problem.
One should not maintain much thru this transaction.
for me it is not more than an emergency transaction, as it is not really more than table maintenance thru SM30
You should investigate what entries/changes the users have to make.
Limit these manual entries by having better data in the system, so that SAP can itself create the entries for this table.
Organize more, less users , maybe just one per company who shall maintain VEFU manually.
Train them to prepare their entries before they start using VEFU.
Explain that they should leave VEFU as soon as possible as the block other users.
assign maintenance windows to the users.

  • Airport Extreme 'sees' only one computer at a time

Just ought a new Airport Extreme to replace on old Airport Express (flying saucer type) and find that only one computer can access the internet at a time. This is a downgrade odf service from the old Airport Express, and we cannot find any method to fix the problem. Until we solve the computer problem, we cannot go on to figuring out how to connect our iPod Touches and iPhone. All our equipment is Apple, except for the DSL modem supplied by Earthlink. Anyone have any ideas? Earthlink said that there equipment is working properly, and we beliee that because the old system still works perfectly.

No. Something else is going on.
Your son may be hogging all the bandwidth but your wireless network should never simply disappear. Moreover, if your son isn't doing anything the available bandwidth for other devices should remain unaffected.
I suspect that something is miswired, and from what you describe I suspect that link is between the Extreme and the "other computer".
The way to accomplish what you propose is
Modem > Ethernet cable to Extreme's WAN port
Extreme's LAN ports > wired Ethernet devices.
There should be nothing but an Ethernet cable linking an Extreme LAN port and any other wired device. If you run out of available LAN ports on the Extreme, you need to by an "Ethernet switch" - they are not expensive, but don't call it a "splitter" or you will only confuse yourself. The switch would be connected to one of the Extreme's LAN ports, and you would connect additional devices to it. You can also use one of your Expresses for that purpose, assuming it is the current generation model with two Ethernet ports.

  • Only one computer at a time??

I have a Airport Express setting up a wireless network in the place I'm staying at, and can successfully connect with my iPhone, and MacBook.. but when my wife tries to connect with her Windows Vista laptop, she can not get past the local network to the internet. If I turn off the Macbook, she can then connect, but I cant... It seems that only one computer can connect at one time... is this right? is there a way to change that?
The settings of the AE says that there are 3 connections to it (my Laptop, her laptop and my iPhone). I' have tried changing and even turning off all securities on the AE. And help is GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks.

I believe I read somewhere that the AX limit is ten.
It could be that the LAN it is connected to (I assume that's how you have it connected to the internet) only allows two computers per node -- and the iPhone counts as a computer.
Try turning off Wi-Fi on the iPhone. Will both computers connect then? Since you can't use Wi-Fi for iPhone phone calls, that seems the most expendable of the three devices in the wireless network.

  • Sharing a folder with only one computer on the network?

I have a local network with one OSX.6 server and eight workstations in the office and two more using VPN). The server has one shared directory for use by all workstations - that directory automounts when each in-office workstation is rebooted. Each workstation has a different computer name and account name.
All workstations have full access to the office directory.
I have been asked to create another directory on the server that can only be seen and accessed by one computer in the office (and eventually two others via VPN). I can easily create the new directory and share it with the entire office, but I cannot seem to make that directory available to only the three computers - it is all or none!
Obviously I am not a unix junkie and I need help here.
    Thanks,
    Marty

It has been a couple of days. I sure could use some help with this.
Does anyone have a hint as to what to even try?
I can take the scorn and ridicule of not knowing (because it is probably something simple).

  • Only One Computer at a Time on Internet

I have a cable modem (motorola) and using airport as my wireless router connected to my iMac. I have a MacBook and an iMac. Unfortunately, only one of us can be accessing the internet at a time. This was not the case before. If one of us is already online, the other just "times out" and cannot access the net. Is there setting I need to change in order to having us accessing the net at the same time? Thanks for any help you can provide.

1 - is everything set up to use DHCP - if you have any static IP addressing you may have problems like this
2 - restart everything - shut everything down including the Cable modem (unplug it) and the airport router and both computers
3 - plug the power to the cable modem and wait 30 seconds then restart the Airport router - after everything is up an running (probably another 30 to 45 seconds but watch the lights - when the cable modem in indicating LAN traffic you are up - then turn each computer on - either log into the airport router and look at the DHCP table and verify that both computers are there and have their own ip addresses or look at the network preference on each an verify that they have different ip addresses
If this does not correct the situation set your airport router to use the Open DNS servers for DNS - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (I have to do that on COX to have Leopard happy)

  • Only able to connect to internet through Broadband DSL one computer at a time.

    Hi,
I am using Verizon Broadband DSL, and have used it for a few years.
    Equipment:
    Westell Versalink Model 327W
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router Model WRT54G
I have a desktop (running Windows XP), and 2 laptops (1 XP, 1 Vista) that are connected wirelessly. Until recently all 3 computers have been working fine, connecting to the internet on the wireless network.
The problem is this: When any one of the computers is connected to the internet through the DSL none of the others computers is able to connect – I see the message “Connecting through WAN miniport (PPOE)…”, i.e. I am only able to connect to the internet 1 computer at a time.
As soon as I disconnect from the ‘connected’ computer (desktop or laptop) I am immediately able to successfully connect to the internet on either of the other 2 computers.
I’ve tried resetting everything – no luck.
I don’t recall having changed any of the settings and am baffled.
Any thoughts as to the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Charlie
PS. I haven't called the Verizon DSL Tech Support team yet...but I will soon. I figured on asking here first.

    Ok.
#1 You must get to the network control panel on your computer.
One of the ways, for Windows XP is:
    a) Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
    b) The screen will look like steps 5 and 6, on http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
    For Windows Vista:
    a) Go to the globe icon (start button) -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections.
    b) The screen will look like steps 5, 6, and 7, on
    http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
#2 Right click on the WAN miniport (PPPOE), and remove the check mark that says Set as Default Connection.

  • HTTP and HTTPS connections time out--only one computer on the LAN has this problem. Also affects Internet Explorer

For the last few days HTTP and HTTPS connections on one computer on my LAN usually time out or fail to load completely. This also affects Internet Explorer on the same machine, but email, FTP, etc. seem to be working normally. The URLs that do not load in the browsers ping normally, and load normally on another machine on the same LAN. Running Firefox in Safe Mode does not help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Airport allows access to only one computer at a time

Is there a setting which prevents internet access by more than 1 computer at a time via airport? I cannot get laptops to connect simultaneously (via airport) to the internet

If both NAT & DHCP are both enabled (the default) on the AirPort, and each of the computers are configured as DHCP clients, then they should all be able to access the Internet through the AirPort simultaneously.
To verify that both NAT & DHCP are enabled, check that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address. (ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing)

  • Can use the internet but only one computer at a time...

I have a very old PC with no ethernet ports and i have one macbook pro. I just bought an airport base station and have connected it to my modem via an ethernet cable, and the modem is then connected to my PC via USB.
This set up allows me to connect wirelessly with my macbook pro, but if i want to connect to the net via my PC it won't let me...unless i turn off the base station and then reboot the modem. but now i can't connect wirelessly.
Apple guys say, because I'm not connected directly to the PC from the base station (due to no ethernet ports) I'll never get round this problem. Before I give up, is there any thoughts on how i can resolve this catch 22?
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)

When I encountered the same problem a while back, I discovered that I had mistakenly connected the ethernet cable from my modem into one of the <-----> (ethernet) port on the back of my Airport instead of the O (WAN) port.
It belongs in the O port.
I hope your problem is this simple to solve.

  • Only one computer at a time through the router WRT 110

We have a Compaq laptop (Vista) with built-in wireless that connects through the router just fine. We have a new HP desktop (Vista) with a Linksys wireless card  that connects through the router just fine. When either is connected the signal strength is excellent.  But if we try to connect either machine while the other is already online, it will not connect and it disconnects the first machine. We have to shut both machines down, shut off the router for 30 seconds, restart the router, restart the desktop, and restart the laptop. Usually (but not always) both machines will then go online. Everybody's happy unless one of the machines goes to sleep. If you then "wake up" that machine, you have to start the whole process over again. I have tried several times to set up the router with a wired connection, I have set up both machines numerous times, transferring the settings for the network back and forth. I have tried setting up a new network. Most of the things work until one of the machines is shut down and then started again. I know it has to be in the router settings but I don't know where to go to solve this. Driving me batty, going in circles.....HELP!!!

Try to readjust the wireless settings of your router :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • WRT45G: can only connect one pc at the time to internet, cannot login to router setup

    Hello,
I don't get this. The complete network worked fine for ... years? After a call with the ISP about a general/different issue, we can now only connect one pc at the time to internet. (We were asked to take out cables and we've put them back).
I've been trying and searching for an answer for hours.
    problem:
We can only connect through the router to internet with only one pc at the time (the first pc we connect after starting up the router).
Also we cannot get into the setup menu of the router at 192.168.1.1
We've been trying to reset the modem for 10, 30 seconds.
Auto resolve IP/DNS. DHCP is enabled.
I also remembered that I pushed the SES button, it turned from orange to flashing bluish. I never knew aboutthis function, nor it is mentioned in the manual I downloaded. Now this SES indicator is off.
Also WLAN and DMZ led are off.
I downloaded EasyLink_Connect.exe, went through the setup. It recognises there's internet connection, but stops and says: cisco does not support this modem.
Temp. replacing this WRT45G modem with another one did not resolve the issue.
I have no clue what went wrong, what we did wrong, and how we can resolve this issue? Please help! Thanks

Does this SES function configure anything other than the modem? So, does it alter PC configurations? I have no clue.   We even start to wonder whether the ISP is able to set up their internet in a way that unables us to make use of a router? That would be ridiculous
