No internet access on certain IP Address

Hiya , I have to revisit this problem.
Strange IP issue !!!
I have a windows 2003 server with a static IP.
My network has a DHCP server and that Particular IP is in the exclusion range.
When I open a browser on the server I get the error "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"
However if I change the static IP address to a defferent static Ip address everything works fine.
Here's the funny bit.
If I set a different PC/server to this troublesome static IP I also get the issue.
So the problem is with the Static IP address itself?
On the DHCP server there is no indication that this is a BAD IP ADDRESS etc..
Checkeded the firewall and this is not blocking either.
Any ideas why this particular IP fails to get me internet access ?
When uing this BAD IP I can access our internal intranet.. Which makes me think it's some form of DNS issue?
Any PC that I change to this Bad IP cannot access the web.
I have also checked to see if Antivirus has somehow blocked this but it hasn't.
I can't really see anywhere on the network that can control this behaviour ?
Ray..

Hiya and thx for reply..
All static settings are correct.I set them using GUI
When set static, If I change to any other static IP every thing works. Until I use 10.1.3.150

  • Restrict wireless internet access on certain periods of time

    Hello,
We need help on setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients.
We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.
    Used devices:
    1x SRP 540 router
    1x SG 300-10P managed switch
    4x AP 541N accesspoint
    What we want to do:
    1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
    2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
    3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
    4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
    5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
    1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
    2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
    What we tried already:
    1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
    2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).
Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.
    Thanks already for your guidelines.
    Wim

what about the thoughts of radius for authentication which is connected to active directory for your wireless users. Then have those people you must limit access too during the day in their own security group that's only allowed to login to the domain during certain times of the day.
To limit sites or what they can do on the Internet will require a separate solution for content/URL filtering. Then you can make policies and apply to your security groups in active directory block by category, keyword, and so on.
This is all great assuming you can get these clients into AD.
Just a quick thought, hope it helps.

  • How to prevent/allow admin access from certain ip address.

    Hello
trying to setup the following scenario:
have a user BOB created in Cisco ACS 4.2
have several network devices with different management IP addresses  all added in Cisco ACS 4.2
want to be able to allow BOB to access network devices only if BOB's access request is coming from one ip address 1.1.1.1
If BOB is trying to access network devices from any other ip addresses, the request should be denied regardless of the fact that BOB has full access to all network devices.
Is there a way to acomplish this using Cisco ACS 4.2
    Appreciate your input.
    Regards,

It is actually possible, thanks for your doc reference:
in ACS setup AAA client user will be allowed to call from
    in ACS setup NAR (devices you want to allow access to);
    create user in ACS
    configure user access in ACS:
         allow access to required NARs
define IP - based access restrictions
Permitted calling / point of access locations
enter AAA client from which user will call (* for ports and * for ip address)
    Save and test
In failed attempts you should see Authentication failure code "Users access filtered" when trying to login to NAR devices with new username and from non-permitted calling client/ip address.
    Thanks for you help.

  • Parenting - Is it possible to control internet access at certain times.

Is it possible to make an iphone not have access to the internet.  I realize I can turn wifi and cellular data off but my child could obviously turn it back on.  I want to only allow wifi and cellular data usage on weekends.  Any suggestions?

Since you should be able to monitor his call usage and data usage, you could tell him/her, you can't make calls or go online except on weekends. If I find out that you disobey, I will take it away for 1 day the first time, 1 week the second time, and 1 month the third time. If there is a fourth time, it's gone for good.
Kids need boundaries and need to learn consequences. At least that's what I'd do.

  • LRT214 Access Policy using MAC address

I recent upgraded to the LRT214 from a Cisco RVS4000 On the RVS4000 I used the Access policy to block internet access to certain devices identified by their MAC address during certain times of the day.  This was very helpful for enfocing the time rules for my daughters Xbox to play games using the internet.  That functionality seems to be gone in the LRT214.  I see I can bind a MAC address to a IP and then retrict that IP but that seems cumbersome-- wondering if there is a way to restrict access using ONLY the MAC address?  thanks in advance.

    This is interesting!
I believe the Linksys device (LRT214) by design does not have the same feature as the Cisco's but basing from what I saw in the LRT's userguide, what you are trying to do can be achieved.
The LRT has the a Firewall Access Rule feature that allows blocking by creating a "deny" rule via IP where you can specify the time of duration. I think since you are going to bind the ip to a specific mac, it could help.
I have not tried it myself since I do not have the device at hand. I hope it will be work.

  • Children by passing internet access rules

I want to allow internet access to specific Mac addresses only.
My WRT54GL router, firmware V4.30.5 currently has rules to "deny" access to my children's PC's during certain times.
I use the PC's Mac addresses to do this.
However, they have learned how to clone their Mac addresses, hence bypass the block (last time I looked each of their PC's had acquired three licences from the router under different Mac addresses!).
If I set the router to only "allow" access at certain times (again using the Mac address), would using another Mac address just gain access anyway?
Would I also have to set up rules for my other PC's (wife's and mine) to allow us to have internet access.....currently, as I us blocking, there are no rules to allow or block these other PC's, they just connect anyway.

Exactly my point!  If the kids are getting too smart, they will do anything to get around your rules.  It will reach a point where you will need to put a lock on the circuit breaker panel and turn the power breaker off that leads to the router.  Then again, sneaky little b-tards may find an extnesion cord and power it while you are away anyhow!
You can't win unless you make it a house rule and stick to it hard.  I know more than you realize the consequences of doing / not doing this.  I had a child just like that, and when I finally cut him off completely because he was skipping homework
(failing in 2 classes)  and playing online all night instead, he decided to smash my computer in retaliation.  I really wish we had set those rules as unbreakable when they were younger before they decided to think they could pull one over on us as parents.
I'm not saying your kid will do something like that, but if you really care about what they are doing, you need to make rules NOW and make them follow them.  Otherwise you might as well just set them free now, because they are half way out the door already.
There is no technical answer to your delimia.  What I said about setting allow only on your computers MAC addresses will work until they learn what those addresses are and clone them too.
As for the functionality of the access restriction of linksys routers ... my opinion is not high right now.  I am fighting with tech support to fix a problem I have.  The ball is in my court right now.  They want me to do a factory reset and start over from there.  I just need at least a 2 hour window, because Murphy lives in my house.  I know it won't be sweet and simple to reconfigure everything again.
I'll let you know if the factory reset fixes my problems.  Better yet, upgrade your firmware to the latest, and then do the faactory reset and you'll be exactly where tech support has me at with fixing random bugs in the access restrictions arena.

  • Software for controlling internet access with Airport Exreme

I'd like to find software that let's me control what pc's in the house have internet access at certain times. My iMac is my main computer, and I use Airport Extreme as my router.

You probably need to set the card up in OSX. Verizon should have a modem script that needs to be installed. (Hard Drive>Library>Modem Scripts). Then you need to set up the card from Network Preferences. Then it should work on both platforms.

  • Compact RIO Standalone RT Application with Internet access

    Hi,
I am currently working on a Compact RIO and would like to deploy the VI as a standalone application to run independantly on the Compact RIO without the need for a host computer. Apart from that, the Compact RIO also has to have internet access. I have a CRIO 9022 and am unsure how to set up internet access for it as well. Should the Ethernet cable be plugged into Socket 1 or Socket 2? The other end of the ethernet cable is connected to a switch with internet access enabled.
    Please Help
    Thanks

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. After we set up the Compact RIO to run st startup with a real time application, what other settings do we have to configure to allow it to have internet access? The IP address is static. Also, we would like to have a remote front panel service running in order to view the front panel from a remote browser to monitor our system. Would it be possible to provide me with some step by step instructions of setting this up? I tried the steps from the guides at National Instruments website but all of them require the presence of a host computer, whereas we are building a real time application.
    Thanks

  • Access to certain internet sites/services not working

A couple of days ago, my access to certain internet sites as well as my Mail programme and another email client app stopped making successful connections. I can open many web pages, but some do not work. Specifically, the local library where I can login to check the online catalogue doesn't work. My Mail app won't connect either. I also use another email app called First Class for work and it can't connect to the online server. If I start up Network Diagnostics and change from Airport or Built-in Ethernet it will work, at least until I quit the app and reboot it, then it can't make the connection. I have checked and replaced cables, removed the Airport and gone direct with Built-in Ethernet, etc. This phenomenon happens with all five user accounts on the computer. Other computers in our home which are connect to the LAN have no such behaviours happening, which leads me to conclude something is not right on the iMac we use all the time.
    Any ideas?

Hi Dennis, and welcome to the Discussions!
My guess at this point is that you should drag these files to the Desktop for possible later replacement should it not work, then reboot & setup Networking/Internet again...

  • WRT54GL Wireless Router says "No Internet Access" or "Cannot find IP Server Address"

I tried setting up a home network with my above Linksys router and can't connect to the internet now. I have the ethernet cable from my DSL Modem hooked into the ethernet port on the back of the Router. In port one, I have a cable which attaches directly to my laptop as I was advised to use a cable for initial setup of my home wireless network. I was able to get into the router to set all the passphrases and wireless security settings, etc. My ISP is PPPoe and I have entered both the UserId and Password that my ISP provided. However, upon clicking on the wireless icon, my system states I am connected but the status screen shows "No internet access". I have no problem connecting to the Internet when the cable runs from my DSL modem into my computer, so it's something to do with the router blocking it now.
My ISP does not support my Linksys router, of course, and they tell me I need to contact the manufacturer telling me the router needs to be set up as a 'bridge" ??? There is no mention of anything like this in the manual and I do not know if there is a setting on the router that is somehow blocking my being able to get an internet connection. This is all still with cables attached. Again, I seem to be able to 'connect' to the wireless network but I now cannot get to the Internet thru the router...
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I did try the step by step instructions and changing the internet type to DHCP but still unable to connect to the internet. Setting back to PPPoE type, the error message now continues to say it "cannot find the IP address of the PPPoE server." I have reset the router back to factory defaults and reset the security and setup settings to no avail. My ISP (Juno), after providing the connection type, login name and password, stated I need to contact the manufacturer of the router and ask that it needs to be set up as a "Bridge".  ??? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
My modem is a DSL 2Wire. On it's homepage, there is a field called ATM Encapsulation that is set to "Bridged LLC" but I am not touching the settings of my modem for fear of messing up my internet connection altogether. It has to be some setting on the router, is all I can think of. On the Status page of my Linksys router where I try to connect to the internet, once PPPoE is selected, the blank IP address and Subnet Mask settings are zeroes and you cannot enter anything into those fields. (I was going to try entering the address of my modem just to test if that might work...)
This is very frustrating. Even tried the 30-30-30 solution I read elsewhere worked for someone. Nothing. Same error message. Once I hook the ethernet cable from my modem into my router, I no longer can access the internet because it keeps saying it cannot find the PPPoE IP address.

  • Block internet access by MAC address all the time

I want to be able to block MAC addresses from accessing the internet but allow them to use the network.
I can do this in other router interfaces but the BT Home Hub 2.0 has a VERY un user friendly interface and will not allow advanced internet access or other settings to be modifyed to suit my needs.
I am at an intermediate level at understanding network equipment and an expert at residential networking.

Not sure about the home hub 2, but on the home hub 1 you can use a "user defined" firewall setting to block access to a computer by specifying its IP address.
    Source LAN
Interface 192.168.1.xxx  (address you wish to block)
    Destination WAN
    Service ANY
    Action Deny
You can tell the home hub to always use this IP address for the device you are trying to block.
There is probably a similar setting on the home hub 2.
By default I block all Internet access for devices, then I have rules to allow HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and a couple of others.
    I also have UpnP disabled.
This prevents any computer on the network accessing any non-standard ports.

Roger, thank you.  I wish I had sent out this question a month ago, when I committed the folly of creating another apple id with my alternate email address.  Since then, I had realized that I didn't seem to need it, hence today's post.
So now what do I do?  Is there anyway to delete that unecessary apple id?
And it is even worse than that...the secondary address listed currently in our apple id is a mobile me one that my husband created, but never uses, never checks, and probably doesn't even remember the password for.

  • WRT320N Can't get IP Address - only using 1 wired port - no internet access - web setup pages hang

Just bought Linksys WRT320N to replace Netgear MR814.
Can't get connected to internet using Linksys WRT320N.
    Setup:
    ISP:  Cox Communications (Cable)
    Firmware: v1.0.03 build 010 Jul 24, 2009
1 wired - port 1- to Windows XP SP 3 Dell Desktop
    Setup Attempts:
    1.  Tried to setup using install CD.  Kept erroring out with Error 302: Internal Error. tried this 3 times
    2.  Went through the reset, power down, power up procedures.
    3.  Ping 192.168.1.1 = success
    4.  Connected to 192.168.1.1 via web browser
    5.  Set MAC Address = computer's MAC address
    6.  Set MTU = Auto (1500).  Also tried Manual 1492
Was unable to get IP address using IP Address Release and IP Address Renew.  Internet IP Address still = 0.0.0.0
Note that the web page will always get stuck after perfoming a couple of actions (like after switching between tabs).  Message in bottom of browser is "Wating for http://192.168.1.1/Status_Router.asp".  And on the screen the hourglass symbol never goes away.
Note that the old Netgear router still works fine and I am currently connected to the internet using the Netgear router.   I'd appreciate any help getting the new Linksys router functioning/connecting to the internet/obtaining and IP address.
    Thanks for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I don't know where I was unclear: you wrote before that you have used the mac address clone function on the WRT to clone the MAC address of the PC. This way the WRT "pretends" to be the PC if you connect the WRT internet port to your modem.
However, the PC is not the device which you used before to connect to the internet. The PC was not the device which was connected before to the modem. If you connect the PC directly to your modem it won't get an IP address either. It won't have internet.
The problem is that your ISP only allows you to have a single active internet connection at any given time. If you simply connect a different device with a different MAC address to your modem this other device won't get an IP address. As you have connected the Netgear router to your modem and you have internet then you have to clone the MAC address of your Netgear router. That's the device which is connected to your internet and that's the MAC address for which your ISP has locked your internet connection.
Thus, one more time: clone the MAC address of the netgear router (the internet or WAN port MAC address) on your Linksys router. Then the Linksys pretends to be the Netgear router and your ISP should accept the Linksys router. The netgear router should have a status page in it's web interface which shows you the correct MAC address to be cloned.
