No internet access via WiFi!

Hi there!
I used to be connected PPoE for years to the internet via the classical way: Mac mini 2009 --> Ethernet cable --> Router (Thomson ST780)
If I suppress the Ethernet cable, why am I unable to connect to the internet using Airport and the WiFi Network I set up on my router?
Many thanks in advance for your answers!

That solved my problem!
The IP was wrong, also:
there wasn't a router and DNS set.
Thanks, LaPastenague!

  • Win2012R2 VM internet access via WIFI fine but not through a client's Web Proxy Server

    Hi
I have a number of VMs running on my win 8.1 laptop. They normally access the internet via the host WIFI in a bridged config.  No real issues tho sometimes it takes a reboot to clear out any stale DNS  entries.
Now when I go on a client site my internet access on the host laptop is via a web proxy on a LAN connection. If I want this same access running on a standalone "all in" VM , I have a issue since it does not know about the web proxy and it is not
even on the client's LAN . No internet, means no Azure or Office 365.....
So this doesn't make any difference
Is there a way around this .. do I need share a folder/drive   or authenticate myself on the Proxy, from the VM.
    Anyone had this issue?

    Hi Daniel,
    >>Now when I go on a client site my internet access on the host laptop is via a web proxy on a LAN connection.
"LAN connection" means physical NIC (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) ?
" web proxy " means adding a proxy server IP in IE ?
Bounding the NIC (Realtek PCIe ) to external virtual switch then connect all VMs to that external virtual switch ,still can not access ?

  • HT201365 I do not have my iPad 3 connected to the internet via a mobile account. Of course I have Internet access via wifi. Am I still protected by this service?

I want to know if my iPad is protected through the theft protection in iOS 7. I have wifi connectability, but mobile service connection that I subscribe to.

I mostly use Safari. But I also tried it on Firefox, Mozilla, and Camino. Mac OS X. It's my work computer, so I've only tried it at the office. I have to be connected through the Ethernet cable to access my files and email on the server.

  • Can I share my internet connection via wifi AND use my wireless printer at the same time?

Not completely familiar with  wifi capabilities. I have this new setup in my office. I want to share my iMac internet connection via wifi so I can text and check emails using my iPhone (no cell service inside the building). Which works fine. However, I now cannot print wirelessly to my HP printer (LaserJet Pro 400 color). Once Internet sharing is off, I can print just fine. Any other wireless options, or just go get a long USB cable?

    Hi,
It is not a multitasking printer, other devices may keep it therefore the best option in this case: connect it to your wireless router and all devices which are conntected to this router can sahre the printer.
    Regards.

  • Why can't I use my mac as a WiFi extender if it is receiving it's internet connection via WiFi?

Now I'm not the most tech savvy person, but why is it I can't use my mac as a WiFi extender if it is getting its internet signal via WiFi? Would it mess up the original signal it's receiving?

You can do it.. but we do not recommend the use of a computer to do a task that a cheap router can handle better..
But what you need is a second wifi card. In a Mac there are a number of ways to achieve that.. without card slots .. USB wireless sticks that are Mac compatible is one way.
You set up the computer with ICS (internet connection sharing) just look it up.
You receive signal on whichever network you have .. Ethernet being hugely superior of course.. and then the computer can act as router/bridge to duplicate that connection via any other network connection it has.. on a Mac with thunderbolt.. you could use a second ethernet via adapter.. or wifi with USB stick etc.
However.. a cheap second hand Apple router will work far better doing the same wireless extend.. without requiring your computer to be on 24/7 for any other client to use.

  • Windows 7 wont connect to Lion Internet Sharing via Wifi

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with i7. I know the internet sharing feature works, because I used the wifi internet sharing with a Macbook Air and that worked fine. But when I try to connect from a Windows 7 Ultimate laptop, the connection cannot be established. I tried:
    Changing the Wireless Name
    Changing the encryption key
    Tried no encryption key
    Rebooted
Am I missing someting? Am I correct to assume that the built in internet sharing allows you to connect your devices to macbook pro as a router? I appreciate your assistance, thanks!

    Same here.
I have all my machines (rather HAD) connected to the internet via a shared single connection through a 3G dongle (welcome to the countryside). I made the mistake of upgrading my machine to Lion only to realise a couple of days later that all the other machines had been starved of internet access.
Now only my main machine has access, even though according to all of my thousands worth of apple gear the green lights are on and all is ok. The Airport extreme says it's connected, its lying. The Timecapsule says its connected, its lying. The Mac mini says its connected, its actually admits there is a problem when you run the network diagnostics. Same for our macbook pro. At least the Windows machine says it's connected but no internet.
This is pathetic as apple have know there was an issue since june last year. Once more I get the feeliing Apple couldn't give a fiddlers'. Most likely greedily eyeing the forthcoming cash bonanza from the ipad 3.

  • Conneced to wireless router but no internet access via wireless

I don't recall the physical connections being directly attached to the router.  The router in question is a Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS.  My initial thought was since we rolled out Voip fairly recently one of our phones might have ganked the IP address, but that is not the case.  Each of them have their own IP addresses and I don't see any conflicts.  I am also able to ping the router and log into it remotely from my office, which is in a different city. Could it possibly be a firmware issue?

    Hi Everyone,
One of my offices' routers is broadcasting but has no internet access.  The office does have internet if you hardwire in but outside of that nothing has worked so far in regards to the WiFi.  I have power cycled the router and modem to no avail and DHCP is enabled but no one can get online via WiFi.  It seemed to just up and decide one morning that it was not going to allow internet access.

  • IPhone - OSX 10.5.6 internet sharing via wifi has packet loss

I try to access the web on the iPhone (for testing purposes) via the bult-in internet sharing capability of my MacBookPro via WiFi. I get very slow connections and high packet loss on distances of less than a foot.
If I activate Internet sharing (eth0 - AirPort) I have packet loss of up to 80% on a Ping to the iPhone. This results in an unusable connection. In this case the iPhone gets a DHCP address from the DSL box (10.0.2.2). Pay attention to the HUGE standard deviation of the packets in case of the internet sharing!!
If anyone has config hints, I appreciate that very much. Does anyone know how to bridge en0 to Airport with WEP enabled?
    Internet sharing activated:
    --- 10.0.2.2 ping statistics ---
202 packets transmitted, 150 packets received, 25% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 18.312/1768.538/8198.289/2201.202 ms
If I set up a Computer-Computer network with a WEP password I get no packet loss, but of course I cannot access the internet that way because there is no way in preferences to bridge the networks.
    --- 169.254.246.154 ping statistics ---
443 packets transmitted, 442 packets received, 0% packet loss

    I accidentally found a workaround:
    1. Activate internet sharing
    2. Goto network preferences and use AirPort: "Create network ..."
    3. Check require Password and create a C2C network
    4. The Airport Icon changes from the up-arrow to the computer icon
    5. Connect with the iPhone.
Packet loss is gone and sharing works fine.
BIG BUG: Procedure has to be repeated every time AirPort is turned on/off, as Internet Sharing disables/resets the airport setup!

  • Wireless Internet access via requires unplugging cable modem -

I have a brand new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.1) and Airport Express (7.4.2). I have high speed Internet via Comcast/cable modem. I spent 30 minutes with the Apple Tech Support folks and was finally able to get wireless internet access. However, after I shutdown and reboot, the only way I can wireless internet is to unplug the internet cable from both the wall plug and cable modem and unplug the modem, both for about two minutes. This isnt what I had in mind when I crossed over from the dark side (PC laptop world) and am having buyer's remorse. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem (i dont want to unplug cables before each session on the internet)?

    Mr. Timmons,
Thank you so much for the response.  I thought the complete reboot would work, but apparently not.  I followed the directions precisely, even waiting a few minutes longer than suggested for each of the steps.  My air express is still blinking yellow.  I think the issue has something to do with the DHCP and the IP address which are diifferent. The IP address is one series of number (starts with 169), and the LAN IP address is another number (starts with 10). Status on airport express show yellow for internet connection, and yellow for no DSN servers. When I go to the internet tab of airport utility, it shows the iPv4 address starts wutg the 169 number. When I click on the network tab, the DHCP range starts with the 10 number.  When I open the Network Options window, the iPv4 DHCP range starts with the 10 number.  I am at a loss as to how to get them to match up (with either the 169 number or the 10 number).  V/R sjbgtmo

  • Load Balance guest Internet access via two different DMZ zones at two sites

    Hi Sir,
My customer has the following unified wireless guest access requirement:
    - There are 2 internet links and dmz zones at two different locations, Site A and Site B
    - Data centre is at Site A
    - WiSM is proposed to be installed at the Cat 6500 in Site A
    - Lightweight AP are distributed across Site A, Site B and other branches
    - Only one anchor WLC is proposed at Site A, DMZ zone to provide guest internet access
My customer would like to load balance the guest via the two internet link at Site A and Site B but with the same SSID across all locations. Can it be done since only one anchor at Site A? How about puttting another anchor WLC at Site B, DMZ zone? But how can i establish two EoIP tunnel to two different anchor WLC from a single WiSM?
    Thanks for your help
    Delon

You can... but you can't control where the traffic will flow. The wlc will determine which DMZ wlc it will use. The wlc will load balance, but traffic in site A might go to site B. I currently have deployed that senerio in multiple client installations....

  • Time Capsule and Thunderbolt HDD very slow access via wifi enabled MacBook Air

I have a Q-RAID thunderbolt external drive attached to the Time Capsule.  I use it to archive movies for viewing via a media server around the house (mostly via WIFI).  Using my MacBook Air to access the files, performance is very spotty.  Sometimes it's very fast (monitoring the "Data Received" via Activity Monitor typically > 3MB/sec) and sometimes it's very very sluggish (Data Received < 200kb/sec).  Any idea?  It's not a home network issue b/c when it's slow, i test it immediately against a networked iMac and i can access large files just fine (Data Received > 2MB/sec).  Thanks.

I have a Q-RAID thunderbolt external drive attached to the Time Capsule.
You are killing it.. The connection on the TC is USB2. USB is slow.. slow .. slow interface. It is very CPU intensive.. and depending on what the TC is doing it can slow it down like crazy.. the fact is, the TC was designed to plug in a simple drive.. not a raid array. The access to files in the array .. frankly it is a wonder it works at all. But you should move the Q-RAID to a computer with thunderbolt port and share the disk to the network.. it will go at 10times the speed. or maybe 50times or 100times when you have slow speed. TC is not suitable.

  • IMac G4 800 mhz internet access via LAN very slow

We have a G4 800mhz running 10.3. Memory is 768K. The only use for this machine is as a music server. It is connected to the internet via LAN; internet access is extremely slow - pages take an incredibly long time to load. Download/Upload speeds are about the same as I see on my Macbook Pro so I don't think it is the connected to the internet. Is there anything one can do to troubleshoot very laggy browser performance?

You may need to turn to Activity Monitor (or "AM") in Applications > Utilities to see if a runaway background process is eating up processor cycles. If you've not run AM before, on first launch its "Show" window defaults to "My Processes." That will tell only part of the story. Change it to "All Processes"to get the full picture.
Now highlight the "%CPU" column to sort by processor usage. Best to check with no user apps running other than AM. Let AM percolate five to ten seconds to let it finish its first poll. What you are looking for are any processes that are using 15 percent or more of "%CPU" with nothing running other than AM. If you find one, post its name here and we can advise how to deal with it.
However, don't get your expectations too high that a process has gone rogue. Part of it is simply a lack of speed by today's standards. I recently upgraded a friends iMac G4 800 from Panther to Tiger so it could run the latest browsers and it was still terribly slow compared to my PowerBook G4 1Ghz running the same level OS. The iMac 800 has a slow logic board bus (100mHz).

  • Iphone6 touch id stops internet access both wifi and cellular

iPhone 6 64GB iOS 8.0.2 Verizon - With Touch ID on (at least one fingerprint is configured), there are times when I depress HOME to wake the device and then try to use the fingerprint reading service, internet access stops both on wifi and cellular. Turning wifi off and on doesn't help. The wifi signal shows as OK. No subsequent internet access on either wifi or cellular. Have to restart the device (I hold the home and power buttons together until the Apple logo displays).
Right now, it is OK to not use Touch ID. In fact, since I specify how long to wait before locking the device it is actually more convenient to not use Touch ID.
However, when Apple Pay is available this will be a significant problem.
    Any advice? Thank you.

I have not verified this, but I have read that the ios 6 ipad uses either the cell network or the wifi network, but not both at the same time.
You should be able to test this.
I'm not enough of a network tech to know if you could get this to work, but there are mifi devices that do wifi to cellular.
    Here is one example:
FreedomPop provides 500meg of free 4g cellular data per month!  You do need to buy a wireless device at $39. There are ways of getting bonus megs.  One gig of addition data costs $10 per month.  I used about 10megs per hour of internet surfing.
When signing up, you need to be careful with your selections.  On some screens, the free option is a small link below the large button.  FreedomPop employs a Pavlovian Dog < Operant conditioning > thing of getting you used to clicking on the large button then they change the large button to a paid add-on.
Once you setup your account, you need to go to your account options screen to turn off automatic paid data download once you exceed your quota.
The performance seems about like my DSL connection.

  • After 3.0 uipdate: connection to internet only via WIFI!

After the successful update 3.0 my iphone does only connect me to the internet via WIFI. If that is not avialable - which is the case most of the time - I cannot get into the internet at all. It only says "mobile network could not be activated", but does not connect me via telefone provider as before. This means I cannnot use mail and apps unless I am in a wireless network. Does anyone have experienced the same problem? I tried everything from taking out the sim-card to restart and sychronise again, but no change! Help please, as this is a very serious problem!

    Phil,
Thanks for your interest in the problem. My network is rather complicated. A VDSL modem from my ISP does DHCP and NAT for the whole network. An AEBS Gigabit connected to it by Ethernet provides the wireless service, and an AEBS 1st Generation extends it. That network is configured for 802.11n 5GHz. A ZyXel 802.11g router is connected to the AEBS Gigabit via Ethernet and provides wirleess service for slower devices, which don't "see" the 802.11n network. It's the second wireless network to which the iPhone connects. The Macs are connected to the faster one, but can be connected to the slower one. Apparently the devices connected to the 802.11g network weren't getting a DNS, but that wasn't evident when connecting the Macs, because they specify my provider's DNS. (That was necessary because the Mail app was taking a long time to resolve URLs otherwise.) After restarting both AEBS and the ZyXel didn't resolve the problem,. I restarted the VDSL modem. That seems to have done the trick. I can't explain what happened, but I'm happy that the problem seems resolved.
