No internet after wifi connect

In "settings" I see my Ipad 2 is connected with the right wifi, but I still can't use / getting no internet connection. No mail / no facebook etc. I follow the support in renewing net settings, but no change
Please can someone give me some advice to solve this problem?
Rob / Moonkite

Hey Moonkite,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are able to connect to your Wi-Fi network, but cannot access the internet once connected. The following article provides troubleshooting steps for these exact symptoms:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi
- If you are using a public or commercial network that requires a login or subscription, see this article for more information.
- Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
          - Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected. Then tap (>).
          - If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, see this article.
- If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
          - If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
          - If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
Thanks,
Matt M.

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them

  • No Internet but wifi connection is fine

At home and work my ipad2 connects to wifi no problem and then Internet is fine.  When out and about it picks up wifi BTOpenzone and Cloud and connects wifi but will NOT connect to Internet. I have registered with both providers and my iPhone connects fine.  What's up with my iPad??

    L4nms-
I assume you registered the MAC addresses of both the iPad and the iPhone.
Your WiFi connection is not fine, or you would have access to the internet!  Your iPad may be self-assigning an IP address, rather than obtaining one over WiFi.
Try resetting the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will then need to re-connect to the WiFi.

  • HT4059 i would like to read my ibooks on my iphone will not have internet or wifi connections do i need them

Can I read my ibooks on my iphone without internet or wifi?

You only need internet connection to download/re-download them on the iPhone (or you can sync them form your computer's iTunes instead), once they are on the phone you don't need to be online in order to read them.

  • Iphone will not connect to Internet without WIFI connection

My iphone will not connect to the internet without a wifi connection.
I have restored the settings many times. But i still have this problem.
I get a message on safari which says 'could not activate celluar data network'
    what do i do?

If you have restored your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup and as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup with no change, have you contacted O2? Your line may need to be reset by O2, which will involve turning your iPhone off whole O2 does the reset at the server, or possibly there is a problem with your SIM card.

  • Many ppl Not being able to connect to internet although wifi connected.

Other forums are recieving many posts a day on this issue, and as I understand it Apple are recieving alot of calls on this issue:
    Description:
Connection to an encrypted wifi network seems succesfull, however when attempting to reach the internet Safari throws up an error - The server could not be contacted - or words to that effect. None of the Internet requiring Apps work although the wifi signal indicator shows signal indicating connection.
When you click on the little blue arrow to the right of the network connection you are connected to, in "Settings > Wifi" you see a self assigned IP Address starting 169.254 and a subnet mask 255.255.0.0, with possibly no DNS if you haven´t manually entered it and no gateway.
    Peculiarities:
1 Problem is widespread, not tied to specific make of router or AP, also it happens to most people on more than one AP or router
2 People with this problem are assigned a 169.254 IP address, Indicating no DCHP lease of an IP address
3 Ive ran a packet capture using wireshark and Air PCAP and seen no packets for a DCHP request.... wierd.. it looks like its not even requesting an IP address..
4 Only seems to happen on networks using some kind of encryption be it WEP, WPA, etc...
5 Although theres bars in the wifi icon that indicate a connection, it cannot be connected to the network, just try and ping your device when its supposedly connected, look at the IP.. it cant be on the network.
6 Even if you manually imput the IP address, sub mask, and gateway IP it still wont work.
7 People with Iphones seem to be able to circumvent this issue or a similar issue by manually selecting the encryption method or changing the encryption method on the router.
8 Issue observerd in varied firmware versions
    Possible Conclusions:
1 The Ipod is selecting the wrong kind of encryption when the enter password dialog box comes up? OR bad key negotiation between IPOD and Router.
Although scenario 1 shouldnt be the case as WPA and WPA2 have to be a certian length etc..
Note: I have tried connecting to the network by manually entering the network details and encryption under Settings > Wifi > Other and still no luck..
    Questions:
Could someone with this issue confirm 1 wheather they are using WEP encryption. 2 weather it works on a non secure router or AP. 3 weather they are imputting the full HEX key or a passphrase?
I get the feeling if you use the full hex key it may work, ive seen posts around about having to make it recognise that you are using HEX by appending a $ sign to the start of the key.. although i dont know how true this is.
I have no access to the router that dosent work for me.. so cant do tests as my home one works on all encryption methods, but ive seen about 5 Routers and AP´s so far that wont work.. all using WEP..
    NOTE
On one specific AP I connect with my Ipod and get no IP from DHCP so no internet, yet my colleague sitting right next to me with an iPhone gets a DHCP assigned IP and is surfing away no probs! it even automatically connects, and im very jealous..!
    Anyone got any ideas?

This happened to my ipod touch recently, on my own network--it worked the night before, but not the next morning (even though I had a full wireless connection on the touch). I had to 'forget' that network and re-add it (including WEP) and then I was able to re-connect. no idea why this occured, but that did the trick. So far, I've only had to do that once...

  • No internet access wifi connected

I have had this problem several times, where the IPAD seems connected to the wifi network, passwords and all are correct, but when accessing safari or mail, I get a message unable to connect to internet. The IP address statrs with 169 and Isee from previous discussion threads that that is a problem, but I do not see how to correct the problem.  This has happened more than once and each time I have had to just not use the IPAD until it corrects itself, that has been a whole week in the past.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

If this keeps happening you may have another problem.  Sometimes you have wifi but no internet because of an iOS DNS error.  What your phone is doing is being clever and being wrong!  iOS will setup DNS when you connect to your wifi, but it gets cute and will sometimes point to a device on your local network for DNS instead of a DNS server outside of your network.  The real problem is that when the local DNS fails, iOS doesn't go to the next DNS server in the list.
The fix:  (from the setting menu choose wifi then do the following:
    1. select your network and choose forget this network
    2. rejoin your network, then tap the blue icon
    3. scroll down to DNS and delete any local entries (usually start with 192.168. etc)
If you don't have any DNS listed, then add one.  You can use any free public dns or setup your own at www.opendns.org.  Google uses 8.8.8.8
Good luck and spread the word.  Maybe someday this issue will be fixed.

I have an iPad on v5.01.  I am unable to use my wifi network to connect to the internet.  My wife's iPad works fine.  Please advise any potential solutions.

Have you checked to see if your WiFi router needs to have your iPad's MAC address specifically permitted to use WiFi?  Some WiFi routers have a section in the settings called "Access List", possibly under "Security".
You can find the MAC address in Settings > General > About > Wi-Fi Address

I set up a virtual router plus program on my computer to turn our wired connection into a wifi hotspot so my daughter could use her ipod in the app store but it won't connect to the internet at all. Wifi signal is on, in settings it says its connected, but when attempts at loading anything occur, nothing loads. Iphone works on the ad hoc network, won't be able to get to a wifi spot for her to surf around with for a while

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router (or what yo are connecting to)
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Internet through wifi while connected to different network by ethernet cable

    HI,
Is there a way for my iMac (2012, OS10.8) to take internet from wifi connection (tethered to iPhone 4S) while it is connected by cable to a router that does not have any internet connection?
The reason for this strange situation is that the telephone wires coming into the house was accidental pulled off, so I cant get internet through the telephone wire. I have to rely on 3G through my phone. I just bought Sonos Play 3 and Bridge, and they wont work unless their firmwares are updated. In order to do this, the iMac has to be connected to the Sonos (either by wifi or ethernet cable) and the internet at the same time. Since I am using wifi to be tethered through my iPhone to the internet, I have to use ethernet cable to connect to the Sonos gear. Whenever the ethernet cable is connected to the iMac, the iMac wont receive internet date through the wifi/tethered connection.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Henry

Thanks. I therefore have a problem as I cannot connect my ipad to the Apple TV. When trying to connect via Airplay my other apple tv appears (that is connected only via WiFi and that connects OK) but the Apple tv connected via the Ethernet does not show. I have looked at all the settings on both apple TV's and the only difference I can see is one is connected via WiFi and the other through Ethernet cable. Any ideas on what I need to check out?

  • My iMac keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • After updated OS X 10.9.5 this afternoon, I couldn't connect to Internet through wifi. Please help me!!!

After I updated osx 10.9.5 I can't connect to internet through wifi. So, what the problem please help me to solve this problem urgent!!!

I've been having horrible wifi connectivity problems with my mid-2012 MacBook Air for the last several weeks.  I just realized today that the problems started around the time that I upgraded to 10.9.5 on September 17th.
It's reached the point where I keep Airport Utility up in a corner of my screen so I can see whether I have internet or not before hitting Send or Post.
After reading Linc Davis' post from September 27th, above, I ran the Wireless Diagnostics when I lost internet.  Internet access came back while the diagnostics were running.  I pressed Continue and lost connection while the second was running.  Based on Airport Utility, I do not have connectivity more than I do.
Note that Airport Utility usually shows that it can see the router, but there is no Internet access.  Other times it shows that it can not see the router.
Wireless Diagnostics suggested that I restart the router (a new Airport Extreme that I installed in August.)  Restarted the router did not solve anything.
All other devices, wired and wireless, are working fine.  The affected device is the only one running 10.9.5 wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Wifi connecting, after browsing it says i am not connected internet

aight i know theres alot of posts with wifi connecting problems, but i couldnt find a post similar to my problem. my problem is: my wifi on my ipod touch recognizes and connects to my internet (wep encryption) at home. for example- i go to yahoo.com the page loads completely but when i try to click on article it says "safari not connected to internet" but i am and i have a full signal bar. it loads to google but when i try to keep browsing it says "safari not connected"........? i tried everything from wat other ppl have said, reset router, turn off key encrpytion, reset my ipod, try turning on off my wifi, STILL NOT SOLVED. am i doing anything wrong? i really need help.
the guys at apple had no idea how to fix it. some networks i have no problem with works completely fine

    Hi
I'm facing the same problem as yours.
I've seen lots of posts reporting the same problem, and Apple just doesn't seem to be worried about the problem.
Maybe everyone should keep in mind that iPod Touch is a limited equipment for internet access (and not the wonderful gadget they announce).
As long as users keep on buying iPods, a user's problem is not an Apple's problem.
