No internet connection on either x64/x86 flavor on Windows 10 -- Missing Sockets entries as well.

Hi all,
I was referred here from http://answers.microsoft.com site, by a Microsoft Support Engineer....
I had (and still have virtual-box).  I have installed yesterday the VMware workstation as well (which apparently is not compatible with Hyper-V.
I've installed both Windows10 Preview flavors under HYPER-V.  On either one, I cannot connect to the internet (and thus activate either).  The x64bit says it's missing files needed (I've
checked detailed view, it points to "missing windows sockets registry entries" and has 2 "?" marks under Device manager (one of which is the acpi) - Even after a fresh, SECOND, install.
The x86 flavor, says i do not have valid ip.  (I had to make local user account because of the no internet access).  I went through the defaults while installing
(no motherboards drivers have been asked to be installed).  This is a Desktop computer with wired high-band routers.
Can anyone suggest a solution for the connection?  (I now obviously also have the external switch and is is connected and i can surf on the primary Win8.1 OS).
Do I really need BOTH VMware and Hyper-V installed / Which one is better for this specific problem..
ANY help will be greatly appreciated.
Update:
I've took off Hyper-V completely.  Re-stared, Tried to set it up under VMware workstation, got the same results.  Either "no valid ip", or missing sockets.  (Vmware adapter is enables, but no connection in either ipv4 and
ipv6.  Exactly the same
happens with Hyper-V.
With Utmost Respect,
The motherboard is MSI.  The CPU is I-7.  6GB ram avail.
Kind Regards,
Me.
Update 2:
Problem resolved.  Here's what i did:
Completely removed the Hyper-V platform from Windows Featured.   Then rebooted.
(Vmware services are still running but with no usage for now).
Opted in the Enable PAE/NX under system/Processor tab in VirtualBox.
Opted in the Enable VT-x/AMD-V & Nested Paging under system/Acceleration tab in VirtualBox.
Created the Virtual PC  as VHD!!
Both of the above -- are grayed out when the Hyper-V platform is installed and therefor will NOT allow Windows 10 Preview to either install well or connect and activate - until the Hyper-V is removed.
Seems that taking OFF the native, built in Hyper-V Virtualization Platform altogether - Solved the issue.
Just shows that  the respectable VirtualBox (v.4.3.12),
Works like a charm where the other two platforms, Did not.  (Kindly note that the Hyper-V Switch, was installed with no evadent issues, it did show traffice - for a few seconds, then remained enabled BUT both IPv4 & IPv6 went to no connection).
Windows managed to successfully Connect and auto activate -- on both x86 & x64 flavors.

Use this set of drivers and put on FAT Flash memory card to access.
They will work and better due to your having a 2011 model you should consider Lion OS eventually.
Can't locate? the Apple Setup.exe or Bootcamp.msi (Bootcamp64.msi for 64-bit) will only be accessible when in Windows.

(but you kept that particular information a secret in your forum post)
If the Ethernet chipset is supported, you then need to install the drivers.
By the way, very few wireless networking chipsets are supported.

  • Internet connect: Exporting 802.1x config to login window

    Hi,
We are trying to setup our macbooks to login to our wireless network by authenticating against active directory. I've followed all the steps in the following article
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303471
but as far as I can see internet connect is failing to export the 802.1x config to the login window as nothing is being added to the com.apple.loginwindow plist file and the login doesn't work.
Has anyone managed to do this?
Does anyone know the setting to manually add to the com.apple.loginwindow file to make it work?
    Thanks
    Louis
    Macbook/Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I am having the same problem at my university network. I believe it has something to do with this part of the article you quoted:
"Once configured, when a network user enters their user name and password at the Mac OS X login window, the system attempts to connect to the 802.1X network with the same user name and password. This connection is necessary to authenticate the user to a network server."
It's not perfectly clear, but it seems the username and password for the 802.1X connection must match the username and password at login. Lame, if you ask me.
I'm also having a different problem on my network: My wife and I have separate accounts on our Mac, and every time we switch between users the 802.1X disconnects for some reason. Very annoying, but I guess it has something to do with a genuine user authentication - not a computer authentication, if that makes sense.

I had downloaded the 64bit drivers from http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=746&kind=1 but there is no installer, and I don't know how to do it manually. Could someone give me step by step instructions please? Tech support will only tell me to do it manually but they won't tell me how. Thank you, Dave

  • Virus Software Turned Off & Internet Connection Problem

My laptop has been slowing down, but it was fine otherwise.   A few days ago, I turned it on and received warning messages from the HP Action Center and HP Support Center that my Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software was no longer on.  I never turned them off and they've been working fine for 6 months or so, so it's not like I just installed them recently.  Since the problem started, I've tried several times to turn them back on, but the computer just doesn't do anything.  It asks if I trust Kaspersky and want to run the app, I click on yes, and then nothing happens.  I've also tried to run the software by using the Kaspersky desktop icon, but that won't do anything either.   The same time that this problem occurred, I also lost my ability to fully connect to the internet (DSL connection).  I can get to the Firefox homepage, but whenever I try to get to any other website, even simple ones like Google, nothing happens.  I've tried everything I can think of to fix these problems (except for using the refresh/restore option, which I'd like to avoid if possible).  I've power-cycled the modem, run diagnostics and network checks, and I installed MalwareBytes from a USB drive and ran that scan, but it didn't find any problems.  At the same time that these other problems began, I did see a brief notice that said that a Windows update failed, but I don't know if that caused these other issues or if it just failed because the other issues prevented the update.  Kaspersky's tech support has not been very helpful.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Keep in mind that I can't access the internet from the affected computer, so I can't download anything directly to it.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Feeble internet connection SBS 2011 ADSL & optic fiber backup

I have two internet connections, one with ADSL, a cisco router and an IPCOP firewall and second with optic fiber and a watchguard firewall. It is either one or the other as I’m testing my internet connection. All this attached to a switch
with an SBS 2011. My problem is that my internet connection with either setup is feeble. When I try to reach google, I sometimes get errors and I constantly loose connection on Skype. When I’m RWW it randomly loses the connection without changing IP. I would
like to test my network without a variable: SBS 2011. As you know if the server is down nobody can get out and nobody will get in. So for testing purposes what would you recommend that I do in order to shut down the server and test my internet connection?
Even posting this was a problem. Cheers.
    Mikelo Sanchez

    Hi:
SBS relies on DNS for RWA, Internet Access and such.  Try this:  Connect one of the routers, preferable the faster one, to the switch, remove the other, and go back through the console wizards to verify you have input the correct entries as
provided by the ISP for that connection.  Note that the ONLY reference to DNS anywhere in your network should be the IP of the SBS, and the SBS should have either the DNS of your ISP (or other known good DNS servers) as forwarders OR root hints as the
lookup for DNS from the SBS DNS server. You can verify this by start - admin tools -dns - rclick server name - forwarders tab.
For RWA from the outside the necessary ingredients are a stable connection and proper public DNS settings.  For SBS we normally see an A record at the public DNS host for "remote.your-domain-name.tld" pointing to the external public static IP address
assigned by your ISP to the external interface of your router/firewall.
If all the settings are as described and it is still flakey you may be cursed with unreliable internet service and nothing you can do will overcome that.

  • Internet Connectivity Issues

By process of elimination, I may have the right source of my problem, but may not!
Recently purchased a Time Capsule, primarily to replace my old Airport Extreme and extend its effective range within a new house. At the same time, I upgraded my iMac OS to Snow Leopard (so maybe this has caused a problem?!)
In the last few days have been having severe internet connectivity issues - either v slow speeds or so slow that Mail and/or Safari times out. My ISP tells me that their lines are working fine (I know they would say that, wouldn't they) and, admittedly, my old Powerbook (connected to the Airport network and onto the DSL router) is running Internet applications fine. So somthing seems to be wrong with the iMac or its setup.
Have run Network Diagnostics which tell me there's no problem (except it's still really slow!) and have obviously rebooted repeatedly (including the router and Time Capsule).
    Any ideas?

    Hello AnaB4,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you are getting a message to connect to server to update ink levels when printing with the 8620. This has been an issue since the weekend, server problems have been noted as the cause. The only resolution I know of at this time is to follow the steps here: Re: How do I correct the date on my HP Envy 4500?, or keep hitting OK.

  • Internet connectivity issues on Mac

I was wondering if there was any solution to an internet connectivity issue I'm having on a mac. It seemed to start when I purchased a new modem: an iPrimus AudioCodes MP252 wireless router. Basically the internet connection will either drop out or become stagnant/very slow. There have been no connection/speed issues on any Windows PC or laptop, but often when you try to use the internet on the mac it precipitates a network dropout, thus affecting the connection on Windows computers as well.
I'm trying to see if there's anything else that can be done besides taking it in to be serviced. ISP support hasn't been able to fix the issue, so perhaps it is some sort of compatibility issue between that particular modem and Apple Macs. Obviously the last resort is buying a new modem.

Hi, some Modems/Routers only like Windows PCs, also see if QoS is running on it giving most resources to PCs.

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Satellite L750 - Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Internet connection issue

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L750 and a Linksys/Cisco Modem Router WAG120N at the beginning of June and have had trouble ever since connecting to the internet.
I have a desktop PC hard wired to the modem and don't have any problems accessing the internet. The laptops wireless internet connection keeps either dropping it or not displaying a webpage (even though it says it is connected). It will only run efficiently when connected by ethernet cable directly to the modem. Linksys have told me they believe the Atheros is not compatible with the modem and to contact Toshiba and ask them for the latest download to update the driver adaptor. I am currently running the one listed in the heading.
Can anyone help? I don't know much about these things. Thank you.

    Hi Lisa C,
Do you have these issues on preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba or on your own Windows installation?
Does it happen in eco mode or maximum performance too?
This issue could be related to power saving function of your WLAN card. In Windows power management you can disable the WLAN power saving function. You have to set it to maximum performance for every power profile.
Furthermore a WLAN driver update is always recommendable. You can download the latest version on Toshiba WLAN portal:

  • Using time capsule to share internet connection with a pc via ethernet

    Hi,
I've recently acquired a time capsule and was wondering if i could use it to share a wireless internet connection via ethernet to my non-wireless (windows 7) pc?
My current situation is that i have a wireless modem/router that shares my internet connection wirelessly with my mac mini.
I have a pc without a wireless card that i want to connect to the wireless network so i was wondering if it was possible to attach the pc and the time capsule with an ethernet cable, then connect the time capsule to the wireless network and share the internet connection with the pc.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so how?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussion area!
IF...your wireless network is now being created by another Apple "n" router like an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express or Time Capsule, it would be possible to do what you want to do.
But the Time Capsule would not be compatible for what you want if your wireless is created by another manufacturer's router. The Time Capsule could "join" this wireless network so that backups would occur over wireless. However, when the Time Capsule is configured this way, the ethernet ports on the device are not active, so this would not help with the ethernet connection that your computer needs.
A new AirPort Express 802.11n would do what you want. It has the capability of joining virtually any wireless network and the ethernet port can be enabled using the ProxySTA feature, so it would work for your purpose.

If you are purchasing the movie, then once the movie has completed downloading, an Internet connection will not longer be needed. That should apply to rentals as well, but people report from time to time that even after the rental has downloaded iTunes still asks to connect to the iTunes Store.

  • Iphone 5. cannot get mail. no internet connection available.

I have the iphone 5. My carrier is Sprint. I can get email only when connected to wi-fi. When no wi-fi is available I get a pop up message that says: cannot get mail. no internet connection available.
I am sure I am just missing a setting or something to correct this. Any ideas?
    Thank you!

I experienced this problem firsthand with a Sprint iPhone 5 about a month ago, telling me it had no internet connection and could not check my email (which was Gmail, set up through the native Mail app, using default settings). I can confirm that restarting the phone (holding home + power buttons until restart) temporarily fixed the problem but it quickly returned. Toggling Airplane mode did nothing. The problem did return within the same day after a period of time. I have since switched back to AT&T.
Interstingly, my sister had the same issue with her brand new Sprint iPhone 5 this week. She called Sprint and the customer service representative confirmed that this is a problem that only affects Sprint iPhone 5 users who use Gmail. The rep told her that it affects Gmail both in the native Mail app and also in the Gmail app, but web use still works (I haven't confirmed this). The rep also said that Sprint is aware of the problem and working on a fix that would be delivered in the form of a "software update" but there was no clarification if that was an iOS update or a Sprint carrier update.
That's all the info I have now, but if you're a Sprint iPhone user and experiencing this problem, please do call Sprint and let us know what you find out.

  • Sharing my internet connection via Airport

I have an Intel MacPro with an Airport card. It is connnected to the internet via one of its ethernet ports. I am trying to share that internet connection via the Airport card with my Windows XP machine. I was able set up the wireless connection using 128-bit encryption, and successully access websites from my Windows XP laptop. However, it seems that neither AIM nor Yahoo Messenger nor MSN IM on my Windows machine can connect via the MacPro internet sharing. I can only use a web browser on the Windows machine successfully. Is there some additional configuration I need to do get the internet connection sharing to handle other kinds of connectsions, rather than just web pages?

I'll admit that I'm merely guessing here. Are you running the firewall on your Mac? It is possible the firewall is blocking the ports that the messaging software is using. If your firewall is on turn it off and try using the Yahoo and/or MSN messaging software. If it now works see if you can determine what ports are being used and edit your firewall to keep those ports open.
