Virgin has no settings for it and tell me to ring blackberry but i cannot find a number in australia to ring
can anyone give me any info on how to connect it to get mms and to get onto the internet pleaseeee

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call Virgin and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
Good luck.

  • Automatic expensive downloads / connections BB Curve 8520

    Hi @ all,
I'm located in Germany and try to explain my problem/those of my girlfriend   with her curve 8520.
In September she added an internatflat  and one month later  the blackberry option to use the messenger and email.  provider is Mobilcom Debitel and the net is T mobile.
Now it came up that her bill increased a lot and the provider can not explain to us.
the internet flat is for 200 MB, afterwards slowlier.
The BB option is for 1 MB, actually the  private email is not much.
Now the single connection list shows per day several connections and sometimes at midnight as well   going to
    "gprs://blackberry.net"
the kilobytes for those connections are between 10 and 1440.
Now we disconnected the email account from the phone, but we still have this problem.
    Can somebody help?
Are there settings to be changed or what?
    Many thanks
    Best regards
    Chris

Interesting. But if it says that, just try clicking yes. And correct, the PSK is the pre-shared key, or the wifi password.
If that still doesn't work, then the solution may be to back up your phone using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and perform a security wipe. To do that, go to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe. Perform a wipe of the application data. Once that is complete, perform a selective restore using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and restore just the databases you need (e.g. messages, address book, calendar, etc).
You should then be able to start from scratch again.

  • Windows 7 64-bit driver for Curve 8520 ??

    Greetings -
New here, & new to Blackberry.
Connected he Curve 8520 via the USB to my homegrown Win 7 64-bit computer.
    Was 3/4 successful - but Win7 couldn't find a Blackberry driver.
Is there a driver I can download (or is it on the CD somewhere)?
    Thanks.

    Hello again,
Sorry for the delay...there was an event this week that consumed all time for many who regularly hang out on these forums.
5.0.1 is inadequate to describe your DTM version -- there are 4 octets. Please check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (aka Uninstall a Program) to see the full version number. If it is anything other than 5.0.1.37, then please perform the recommended upgrade.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Is there a big different between curve 8520 and style ?

Is there a big differnt how to use the Curve 8520 ( my current phone) and the style ?? Is the keybord much smaller and harder to use ? I just love my BB curve compared to other phones ( nokia etc) because of the keybord.. So is it much smaller on the style ? Is the screen much smaller on the style then on the Curve ??

    Hiya!
If it is just the physical, form factor you are concerned with, my suggestion would be to check it out at your closest retailer to actually hold it and look at it.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 - Internet problem connecting

Hello, I have bought my daughter a pink bb curve 8520 for christmas. She is on the Tesco (O2 Network), phone was unlocked when purchased. I have been into Teso today to try and resolve intertnet connection issue.  Advised to load Desktop Manager disc which I have done and also installed  Opera Mini 5.1 - this I have and installed on the phone, but still no connection. I have Wi- Fi setup on the phone, this is working ok, but still no connection to the Internet.
Could you advise how to progress? When clicking browser either get blanck white screen or " contact your service provider"  - note  Mobile Network, show that "Data Services" is set to "On" and have all the Tesco setting set up as well.
This is very frustrating so anyone who could provide any assistance would be much appreciated.
I have seen the word Edge in the right hand corner of the screen, not sure what this represents ?
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) is a proprietary service required for data connections on a Blackberry device. Without this you'll experience many issues with features that most people buy the BB for.
    Such as:
Can't set up a personal email.
    Web Browsing will not work.
Applications that require a data connection will not function. (Social Networking for example)
and Blackberry Messenger does not work.
I would check with your service provider to ensure that the service is provisioned on your plan.
Disclaimer: I'm just a regular user like the rest of you. I have spent a lot of time learning the limitations of the Blackberries to know how to fix most problems. If I have suggested a fix, please give a kudo and mark as a solution!

  • BB Curve 8520 not connecting to local Wifi network

I bought this BB two days ago.
Device info: BB Curve 8520  OS v5.0.0.681
Your carrier: T-Mobile Prepaid (the Netherlands)
No Apps and 138598276 Bytes free space
    No Apps installed
    My problem:
I cannot get my local WiFi to work. I can see the 8520 with IP-nr listed in the Wireless clients overview of my DLink DIR-655 router. I see my local network-id listed on the phone's screen beside T-Mobile. The Wifi symbol is grey. In WiFi profiles I can see my network id with a blackbox and white line it.
Whenever I want to make contact through WiFi with for example the hotspot browser I immediately see this message which I translated from Dutch: "Cannot connect to the internet. Try again later."
I have added Wifi with WPS and manually, but nothing helps. Has it something to do with BIS ? I have not used this service and don't even know how to activate that. I am not sure if I even want to do that. I just want to be able to access internet using my local Wifi network.
I also did a battery pull, a router reboot, but still no go.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Roland

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
From your post, I cannot quite tell the specific process you are attempting...so I will give you everything...
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    6) Disconnect your PC from the internet and turn off all radios on your BB (consider also removing the SIM...not likely necessary, but just in case)
76a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
7b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 7a or 7b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
Good luck and let us know!

    good day!
i purchased a blackberry curve 8520 (w/contract) from one of the telecommunication companies in my country - philippines. everything started all good until one day i can no longer open/use my pre-installed blackberry browser.
everytime i click on the bb browser logo, the screen just does nothing... nothing loads up on my phone.
then i tried opening the bb browser throgh the task manager panel a message appears stating: "your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries. please contact yor service provider to enable the browser on your device"
i have tried rebooting the phone several times, both soft and hard.
can you give me any solution for my problem? TIA.
P.S. i have unlocked my phone so i can use it on other carriers. but the problem started a month before i did so. my two friends also have the same phone (bought the same day as mine) and they are not experiencing the same problem.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here are updated instructions, including notations of the required response from each step. If the response arrives correctly, you move onto the next step. If the response does not arrive correctly, you drop out of the process and contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • How to download Thai Font to Blackberry curve 8520

My blackberry curve 8520, T-mobile network, ver 5.0.0.681 hasn't got Thai Font on it. I would like to download Thai font for reading and input (writing).please explain how to do it step by step because I do have not much knowledge about computer or software.  I have read some topics says that I have to download and choose the network provider which mine is T-mobile and it provides only Muli-language (not All Languages) which I can't write it (only reading). I am not too sure it is correct or not.I believe I need to download Blackberry desktop software as well. please also give advice on these software.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages (add/remove programs, Uninstall a Program -- it depends on your Windows OS level)
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
If your carrier only provides a "Multi Language" package, then you may need to look at other carriers OS packages, and find some that have "East Asia" or "All Languages" ("Multi Language" indeed does not have Thai, as per this KB).
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Now launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC, and you should be able to select the languages you desire If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 how to disable Edge and surf on WIFI only

    Hi,
Could anybody help me to disable Edge network on vodafone and only phone connects to WIFI when using internet on Blackberry Curve 8520.
    It would be great help!

Just turn off Mobile network. Uncheck the box. Doing that means you can't make phone calls, though. That's the only way. If they're both on and a wifi connection is present it is supposed to use that first but some say it still uses mobile data sometimes.
