No internet, just want wireless in house
How do I create a wi-fi setup in my house using a g airport express and macbooks? I don't have an internet connection. I just want my macbooks and touch to wi-fi each other.
If not the g express, then what do I need? an n express? something else?
Can macbook and touch wi-fi each other? How?

The default configuration of the 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a wireless router. If it has be reconfigured, you would just need to perform a "factory default" reset to get it back to its "out-of-the-box" state.
Once reset and connected to power, the AX will create a wireless network which all of your devices should be able to "see."

Unless you have a requirement for faster wireless speed, then your current AX should work just fine.

Yes. Just make sure that each MacBook is enabled for File Sharing. To do this, run System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing.

Not quite sure what you are asking. If you mean do you need another device to create a Wi-Fi network, then the answer would be no.

With the default wireless network, created by the AX, you can have up to 10 users connected. No additional configuration changes would be required.

If your phone is offline, the ONLY way to find it is to look for it the old fashioned way. Your phone CANNOT be located electronically if it's offline.

Installed iTunes 10.5 but after I restarted my computer it won't connect to the Internet. All other computers in the house connect to Internet just fine. Help!! I Did all the regular modem diagnostics but that computer won't connect and it's a hard wire connection, not wireless (too far from the wireless signal). Is anyone else having this problem?

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
IFor 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

I am having trouble setting up my time capsule. the amber light is flashing. i have a Verizon FIOS network that i use for the internet (WiFi) and do not want to configure the Time Capsule to do that function. I just want the Time Capsule to back up.
Simple.. bridge the TC.. in the apple utility in the NAT and DHCP area.
Plug it into the FIOS router.. you can turn off wireless in the TC if you want.. or use it.. it can work faster if you are nearby and can select 5ghz.. but up to you. -

I just want to use Time Capsule as a wireless hard drive. I do not want to connect my Internet to it whatsoever. I realize this would involve disconnecting from Time Capsule and reconnecting to my Internet every time.
The settings for Time Capsule are just mind-boggling.

Please help! I will provide points!First, you don't need to use Time Capsule with Time Machine. It can be used as a manual file storage or file exchange drive.
Where do you have the Ethernet cable placed on the Time Capsule. Is it the WAN port or one of the network ports?
If you are attempting to set-up the Time Capsule as your wireless router, it will need to be connected to the wired modem from your service provider through the WAN port for configuration. The Time capsule should then appear as a configurable Airport device.
To start, turn off your cable or DSL modem and the Time Capsule. Turn them both back on with the Time capsule connected to the wired modem via of the WAN port so the modem can grab the TC's MAC address. -
I just set up the airport wireless modem - with a comcast internet router - all wireless device connect seemlessly (3 Iphones, Mac Air, and a Sony Laptop) but my IPAD 1 no longer connects. It tries to but never connects. I have reset it and have airprot utility app downloaded on my IPAD - it shows the modem and the internet no connected?
Do you mean an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to a Comcast Modem?

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

I can't seem to get my headphones to work on my iPad mini when using iTunes remote.
I can stream to any Airplay capable system perfectlyvia Remote and control iTunes on my iMac as advertised.

I discovered this lovely little forum entry that solved my problem!
(Remember this is for Windows, I'm not sure if the same will work for Mac)
This is what you do:
1: Have iTunes up and plug in your iPod.
2: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down until the iPod shuts down.
3: When the screen is blank, release the Sleep/Wake and just hold the Home button down for about 15 seconds.
4: After then, iTunes will recognize an I iPod in Recovery Mode.
5: That's when iTunes will ask you to Update/Restore your iPod.
I'm pretty sure those are the steps.
(If anything is wrong, can someone fix it, please?)

I just wanted to know how to stop loading of rss feeds automatically ? In prior to FF 11 the rss feeds would display if there was no internet connection but now in newer version it would say live bookmark failed to load and doesn't display any feeds, in previous version it would atleast display feeds but in newer version it won't display anything:(
hello Nitin1234, the handling of live bookmarks was changed quite fundamentally starting in firefox 13 & upwards in order to improve the overall performance of the browser - now rss feeds won't get updated in the background anymore but will only be fetched when you're actively accessing them. this is probably leading to the unwanted side-effect that you're experiencing, unfortunately i don't know any way around that.
nevertheless please [[Update Firefox to the latest version|update firefox to the latest version]] (16.0.1 at the moment) to stay secure on the web, since there have been many [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html highly critical vulnerabilities fixed] since firefox 11/13! -

If I just wanted to play games and surf the web, would a VGA adapter or an AV adapter be better? For my iPad 2? I asked my family for a VGA adapter for Christmas and I'm not too sure if it's the one I want. Also, what is the difference?

Probably other people have a same problem since the new version updated. So much times in a day just freezout Firefox and than I have to restart. Even doesn't matter how much page I have opened. Sometimes 4-6 somtimes 10-12, but come on this is the NEW FAST AND GREAT version that's shouldn't be a problem for this! Than if I stop to send this firefox and restart again, I everytime waiting so long 2-4 minute 'cause allways re open this new tab with How to use new firefox... or something else! I don't want to learn anymore! I just want to have one firefox wich can be working day by day without problems and I can use my favorit plug ins and I don't mind anymore how I can use this newest version! Please don't change every month than we have a lot of problems! First waiting for the REALLY GOOD VERSION WICH DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM AND JUST THAN UP DATE FOR US!!!

A 2003 iMac cannot support Snow Leopard 10.6; you'd need an Intel processor and that cannot be retrofitted to your Mac. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say for your processor speed? What does it say about how much RAM you have?
If the processor is 1ghz or faster, you can run OS 10.5; otherwise, you are maxed out at 10.4.11.
Also, are you running any commercial ("pay for") anti-virus or security software? They are notorious for slowing most Macs to a fraction of their speed potential.
A too-full hard drive can drag down performance, especially if you don't have a lot of physical RAM installed. If you single-click your hard drive icon and then do command i, you'll see the disk usage. Looks like this:
The value for "Used" should be no more than about 90 percent of "Capacity." In the example image, that drive has about 34 percent of its space used and 66 percent free--more than enough. Please post what you see for your Capacity and Used numbers
There are a few more things we might check but this is a good start.

E3000 Pressed reset button on back. I just want my old router back :(
Hey all. I have an E3000 router that I love. One day after coming back from a vacation, I noticed another computer that wasn't mine connected to my network(I live in an apartment complex). I tried logging into my router but had completely forgotten the login info. Knowing me I push buttons first, ask questions later and hit the reset button on the back. Terrible idea, I had no internet connectivity at all wired or wireless. The only way I could connect was through my modem. After chatting with Cisco tech support and changing a bunch of ips, dns. I was able to connect wireless devices. But something was still missing. My printer would still not connect, and my NAS was unreachable. Here is where you guys might help me. Is there any way to return my E3000 back to its original fresh out of the box state? I was able to connect everything to it and everything played nicely with each other. Please, I just want my old router back!
