No internet over wifi, bizarre problem

Summary:
I cannot access the internet via wifi, but can with a wired connection. There is one other computer on the network, connected via wifi. It has access to the internet. I can file share and VNC to this other computer either wired or wireless.
So everything works exactly as I'd expect, except when I type in "www.apple.com" or whatever, the browser hangs and eventually says the server couldn't be found. Nothing outside of the network resolves, when I'm connected via wifi, except the machine on the local network (and the router/AP itself).
I've rebooted my machine, and in safe boot, and I've rebooted the router. So I'm totally at a loss how this is even possible. Nothing has changed with the laptop or the router, or the network, in 3-4 days.

Searched for "network reset" and found suggestions to delete the folder:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
I did this, restarted and now I have internet via wifi again. I don't understand why or how it stopped working in the first place let alone how this fixed it or even if it did.

  • TS1398 Having trouble accessing the internet over wifi on my iPhone 5.

Hello, I have a nearly brand new iPhone 5 in perfect condition. So far, I have had not problems with it, however recently, I have had major issues connecting to the internet over wifi. Some things that would happen would be apps that require an internet connection time out, and pages don't load in safari, and the reliabilty would be off and on.However after switching the wifi off and going off of my 4g, the connection was fast and I experianced no problems. I am positive this is not a problem with my home network, because my household had lots of people and LOTS of electronic devices that connect to the internet with no problem. I also have an ipod touch 4th generation that has been able to connect and browse the internet with no problem, it's just the iPhone that is being slow. Also, this isn't really a consistant pattern, occasionaly I will get it to work for like five minutes with no problems then it just time out on whatever it's doing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well it might still be the Mavericks Wifi issue... slow throughput on an apparently strong signal is part of its behavior from what I've read.  So to recap You got a signal (fairly Strong) appeared to be connected but Safari could not display the welcome page.
I'll share something I do in a case like that. I use Firefox. I keep a copy of Firefox, Opera and Chrome on my laptop because some sites use non-standard web code and the different browsers "play" better with the server/router. Safari is a lot better than it was when it first stared out but there are some sites put together (especially financial sites) that just won't let Safari play (they can code to prevent that).
If you have time between flights download Firefox and give it a shot... at this you have nothing to lose.
    Good Luck.

  • Unable to browse internet over wifi on my iphone

I am unable to browse internet on my iphone 4 and ipad3 simultaneously over wifi.
Both iphone and ipad show connected over wifi but only my ipad can connect to internet. Along with ipad I have no problem in connecting laptop and my other android phone over wifi and browse but iphone won't.
I am using talktalk broadband. Please help

Does your phone receive a valid ip address from your router?
Does it work fine when connected to other wifi networks?  If so, then I'd say your router is the culprit.

  • Ea3500: no internet over wifi

    Hi,
for some reason my ea3500's wifi network will have no internet connection occasionally, I am still able to access the router's gateway over wifi, even stream videos with plex. But no internet access. TheEthernet also worksfine..

    @strech1
One of the probable causes of your concern is a corrupted firmware in your router. Doe your router have an EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware or a Classic EA Series Cisco Connect Firmware? It would be best that your router have the latest EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware installed. It would be best to update the drivers of the wireless adapter installed on your wireless computer.

  • IPhone Internet over WiFi problem

  • No Internet Over Wifi Internet Sharing

I am currently living in a dorm and connecting my MacBook Pro to the internet using the campus ethernet network. The campus also has its own wifi network but it is rather spotty and unreliable and it is completely impossible to connect an Apple TV to the campus Wifi (it is also impossible to connect the Apple TV to the campus ethernet).
For a while now I have been connecting my MacBook Pro to the ethernet and using the Internet Sharing option in System Prefs to create my own wifi network. This solution has allowed me to have a reliable wifi network to connect my iPhone, iPad, and AppleTV to while I am in my room. Unfortunately about 2 days ago the wifi network suddently stopped transmitting an internet signal. I can still connect to the network on all of my devices and I can still access the internet on my MacBook using the ethernet, but any device that is connected to my shared wifi netowork is incabable of accessing the internet. They still have all the ad hoc netowork capabilities like HomeSharing and AirPlay Mirroring on the Apple TV but none of them can access any internet content.
I have tried restarting every concievable device multiple times. I have plugged and unplugged cables. I have toggled and untoggled settings. None of this has worked and I am becoming very frustrated.
With these kinds of issues I have seen many commenters here recommend the purchase of a dedicated router instead of using the MacBook Pro but that is sadly not an option for me because routers in dorms are against school policy. Technically my little work around with the MacBook Pro is not realyl encouraged so going to my school for tech support is not really an option either. This solution is the only way I have ever been able to get my Apple TV to work in my dorm and I really just want it to work again.
If anyone has any suggestions that may help I would be really grateful.

  • 5800 won't connect to internet over wifi

Ok, my 5800 xm will not connect to the internet via my netgear dg834gt router . The phone connects to the wifi connection but it will not load up a web page .
It will work via 3g .
I've been through the routers settings and the phones mac address is there and is set for access the same as my pc (which is working fine) .
    Anyone help ?
    Thanks
PS I've cleared the cache apart from saved passwords and done a soft reset . It's running on v5 software .

If the phone will connect to another wi-fi then its not the phone .
You could try a reset .
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone
Lose all data so back up first
    default reset code 12345

  • IPhone has internet over WiFi, however email doesn't work over wifi

Hi. I have wifi set up for work and home and I can get internet just fine, however when phone service is bad I can't send emails even if the wifi is full bars. At home my service is 0-2 bars and work I have nothing. Any suggestions?

Check your Outgoing Mail Server settings. If only have your cell phone carrier's mail server (i.e. AT&T SMTP Server) selected it may only work when using cellular data. Try selecting another outgoing mail server if you have another list.

  • AUtomatic Connection to Internet over wifi not working

    Hi,
How do I get my intel iMac G5 to connect automatically by airport to my wireless network without having to manually do it everytime after start up or sleep? It works on my other ppc imac G5.

Probably also a good idea to provide info on the hardware you are using to connect to the internet.

  • Airport Express 2nd gen will connect to the internet through LAN but not over wifi?

Interesting issue, I can stream Apple TV connected to the LAN port, send Airplay music to my receiver from my iphone, but cannot access the internet over wifi. So it's not Comcast, it has to be the Airport Express, but not ALL of the Airport Express, just the part that sends the internet signal. Is that even possible? I've restarted reset (hard and soft), re-setup, and unplugged everything 100 times, but to no avail. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Ok, thank you.
I know you already tried a number of resets, but please give the following a try to verify that you can get basic Internet access via a wireless connection to the Express from any of your wireless network clients.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Extremely slow Internet over Airport, good speed with Ethernet

I've been using an airport extreme router (802.11n) for a while and recently I've noticed an incredible slow Internet over wifi. When I do a speed test it shows numbers like 200 kbps and I have a 10 mbps cable Internet connection. When I connect the ethernet from the modem it's perfect speed. Obviously Airport is slowing down my Internet connection. I tried resetting the Airport by pressing the reset button at the back, and it worked perfectly for a while. But after a few days it got back to slow Internet. Anybody have any idea?

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I came across some changes (purely by experimentation) that may help. I hope so, at least...
I opened the Airport Utility and I swapped channels. The default is channel 6, but every other WiFi router defaults to this channel, too. I changed my Airport Extreme to use channel 3 (as well as my Airport Express), and now things are back to what I would have expected for an 802.11g connection.
I will offer the suggestion that those of you with the same Internet slow-down observed on their iMac G5's try swapping channels. If you have an expanded WiFi home network vis-a-vis an Airport Express, be sure to update it first before you update your Airport Extreme.
    Best wishes and good luck!

You might want to try resetting your router and your modem - just unplug the cords, leave them unplugged for about 3-5 minutes and then replug the modem and then the router in that order.
This may or may not correct your problem - call back if it doesn't.

After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList.  Changing it to List resolved the problem.
I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid.  And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger.  Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me.

  • Wifi Internet Sharing over wifi!

    Hi every body.
i want to share my network connection (i use wifi) on wifi!
in windows you can use "virtual network router" and you can share you network (even you use to a proxy) and this software create a wifi hotspot and other clinets cant connet to that and use your wifi connection.
in mac, in Sharing, you can share your internet connection on other ports! if use wifi you can share your intenet on Ethernet or... but not WiFi!
my question is how to create an hotspot and share my internet over a wifi when i use wifi to connect to intenet too!
    Thanks!

It doesn't work like that and can't be used like that. You need a stand alone WiFi signal extender box.
Also I have never seen any Windows PC able to do that unless it has 2 WiFi cards in it. One WiFi card to receive the signal from the main router, communicate with the main router, and the other to broadcast that connection out to other WiFi devices.
