No Internet through Airport Express

My ISP just changed from Adelphia to RoadRunner (Time Warner). My airport express had always worked before the transition. Now, I cannot get the internet to connect, but I can still play music wirelessly through the stereo. I restarted the modem and the airport. The "green light" still comes on, and the computer's status is connected to my wireless network. The actual internet connection works because I can go online when I connect the ethernet cable from my G4 directly to the modem. How do I get my wireless internet back?
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try the following...
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the Cable modem & AirPort Express Base Station (AX). (Wait for at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
If after the power recycle, you are still not getting proper Internet connectivity, try checking your AX's settings...
Setup the AX
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, try these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
Internet tab
- Connect Using: Ethernet
- Configure: Using DHCP
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport Express anymore

Suddenly, my PowerBook can't connect to the internet through Airport Express. Monday late afternoon--everything was fine. Put it in sleep, come back a few hours later, can't connect.
Thing is, Airport/wireless is working. Can stream audio to my home stereo.
And the DSL/modem are working. If I connect the machine via ethernet directly, I'm online.
Saw that some other users began having problems with USB/printer connections Monday. Could my problem be related?
    What gives?
    Any ideas?

Hello mnkyby. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in not getting a proper IP address from your modem.
    Try this ...
o Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, run the AirPort Admin Utility.
o Go to the Internet tab.
o Note the value for IP address. (Note: Do not list it here on the forum, just note what it is.)
o Is the IP address what you would expect from your ISP or is it something like: 196.254.x.x?
If the latter, try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)

  • Trouble getting internet through Airport Express

I am trying to set up the most basic wireless network with a cable modem, Airport Express and G4 Powerbook running 10.4.6. I have went through all the steps of setting up the modem then the Airport Express and configuring it with Airport Admin. and all that. I get perfect signal from the express but when I open Safari it doesn't do anything. It doesn't come up with the network diagnostic "Not Connected to the Internet" screen or anything. When I plug my modem directly into the Powerbook through ethernet it works fine.
It seems as though I am just missing a step or an option or something like that.
I have also tried to use my roomates old Motorola WA480G wireless router with similar results. I can get Wi-Fi signal through the Airport card but Safari brings up the network diagnostic screen.

I am having this exact same problem, only using a Dell laptop with Windows XP instead of a Mac. I had my Airport Express set up on a LAN at work a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly. It's been in storage for a couple of months, and now that I am trying to set it up at home with my cable modem, I can't get it to connect to the internet.
When I plug the modem in with an ethernet cable everything works perfectly. But when I plug it into the airport (after doing the power down/power up process) the LED goes solid green, but nothing will load in my browser. I can use other wireless networks without problem.
I also can't get it to print anymore. When I plug the printer directly into my computer it prints just fine. But when I plug it into the airport, it won't print. I've set the printer up using Bonjour, and the Airport Admin utility detects the printer. But when I print I get an error message saying that the printer failed to print the document.
    Any ideas?

  • Can't connect imac to internet through Airport Express

    Hello
I am trying to connect my new imac (2.4Ghz,OS X 10.5) to the internet through my Airport Express (v6.3) but have encountered some problems.
The set up goes like this:
    Cable Internet <wired> TP-LINK Router <wired> AE <wireless> imac
The internet is coming from my landlord on the bottom floor of my apartment so I can't change the router.
The router is assigning a static IP to my AE (192.168.5.101).
I am using WEP 128 bit security.
I have set the AE through Airport Utility to act as a Bridge.
On the imac I set the Network preferences to manually select an IP address (192.168.5.110) which is out of the range of the Router (192.168.5.101-108).
The AE connects and lights up green and the imac recognises the AE but I still cannot access the internet...
I have also tried to wirelessly connect my PC laptop to the AE using other static addresses but I still can't connect to the internet.
    Can anyone please help??
    Regards
    Starwolfgang

Hello Starwolfgang. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The router is assigning a static IP to my AE (192.168.5.101).
Are you sure that this provided IP address is static? If so, you also need to note the provided DNS server(s) IPs as well.
On the imac I set the Network preferences to manually select an IP address (192.168.5.110) which is out of the range of the Router (192.168.5.101-108).
Since you configured your AX in bridge mode, your computer will be dependent on the NAT (& possibly DHCP) services provided by your apartment's router. Assuming that your landlord doesn't filter out any IP addresses and that the IP address you set is valid, you need to compare your iMac AirPort's DNS server address settings with that provided by your apartment's router to be sure they match.
Finally, assuming that your apartment provides you with an Ethernet jack, if you connect your iMac directly (via Ethernet) can it access the Internet?

  • Macbook to internet through Airport Express?

My G5 is connected to the internet through a wired router. I use Airtunes to wirelessly stream music from the G5 to my stereo. Is it possible to connect a Macbook wirelessly to the internet through the Airport Express and the G5?
    Dual 2.5 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Andesite, Welcome to the discussion area!
The AirPort Express (AX) will support up to 10 wireless clients so it can support both your G5 and a MacBook.

  • Using airtunes without connecting to internet through airport express

I am currently using cablevision and a modem, wirelessly, working fine.
have extensive music library, want to play it through home stereo wirelessly.
acquired airport express. computer finds it fine, but cannot skip using A Express as wireless connection
    help?

you should be able to launch Airport Utility and setup your Express from scratch. The process is fairly self explanatory for me however, I found this tutorial that is pretty good and should get you through this ok, it's got screen shots to use as reference and covers the setup you are attempting to achieve.

  • No colors when printing through AirPort Express?

I knew I couldn't use all the features (e.g. scanning) of my HP all-in-one printer F2180 through AirPort Express instead of USB. But is it normal I can't print in colors? Can it be fixed?

I am having the same problem. I am running an AirPort Extreme to a HP Deskjet F4180.
I spent two weeks on the phone and email with HP and they finally told me that it was a problem with Apple.
I just got off the phone with Apple support and they told me it is a driver issue which they have no control over. They told me to see if somebody in this forum had a work around or to search the web for a generic driver that "may" fix the problem.
If I find an answer I will let you know.
    Good luck!!

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

  • Is there a way to play my macs computer audio through airport express?

I have a stereo receiver that only plays through the auxillary port, and i have been using airport express to play my music and movies in itunes through it. Some of my other movies however are neither in itunes or playable through itunes. Is there a way to send the computer's audio output (not just itunes) through airport express and thus into the stereo receiver? Much help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Try using Airfoil.

  • Volume inaudible through airport express

Playing iTunes library through an airport express connected to stereo set up is virtually inaudible. I have to max the amp volume to hear a tinny output through Bose home speakers. I had the setup working about 18 months ago, but something changed overnight, and even replacing the airport express has not rectified the sudden volume reduction. I've tried a PRAM reset.
    Any thoughts? I am desperate!

Hi I have solved the problem for my Ipod touch to switch from ipod to hifi set up through Airport Express
I was unaware that to switch while in itunes playlist that I need to swipe from the bottom upwards which then presented a menu and there was my logo to switch from ipod to hifi. Simple is't it.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Lost internet through airport

Somehow I have managed to lose the ability to connect to the internet through my airport extreme base station. In the system preferences I am told that I am connected to the network and that I am connected to the internet through Airport. Also, the PC that shares my network has no trouble joining the net but cannot connect to the internet.
I can reach the internet using the ethernet cable directly out of the modem.
In trying to achieve a solution I have altered many things in many places and am now very lost.
Can I start from scratch? If so how?
    Help
    Dave

Before starting from scratch, try simply resetting your connection. Connect the modem to the Base Station's ethernet WAN port (the port labelled with the "circle of dots" icon). Pull power to both the Base Station and the modem for at least five minutes. Then plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug the Base Station into power and wait a minute. Restart your computers. Then try internet access again.
If you contine to have problems please post a new discussion topic in the Airport Extreme discussion forum rather than this forum.

  • Advice regarding house guest internet access through Airport Express

I would like to set up trouble-free (on my part and my house guests) access to the internet. Any thoughts or suggestions? It seems to me that if folks may have reasonable access to cable/satellite TV and telephone, or what have you, it is also reasonable to make available to them the internet. What is the best way to go about doing this? I have an existing home wireless system using Airport Express (may also work in a Netgear WG614 wireless router). Mostly, I am concerned with the technical aspects but would also like to hear from anyone regarding the legal/social ramifications. Any such solutions must take into account both Windows and Mac environments. Thanks.

    Meme,
A nice touch, and one that made me choose one small hotel over another when I used to travel a lot.
I can't give a complete solution, but I can give you bits of info, which others will also do.
One thing that probably is a must, is to set Wireless Isolation. That is that although all the wireless clients can see the internet, they can't see each other. I'm not sure that the AE supports this, I honestly thought it did, but now I can't find it. The Netgear will support it.
Wireless encryption will be a must too, you may even want to make it a "closed network", so that the network does not advertise it's presence. Clients wishing to connect must specify ("key in") the network name and connect. That may be just a little too difficult for some business travellers. Back to wireless encryption, some may say to use some ultra-modern hi-tech secure encryption algorithm to be really safe, but these are enormous long passwords that your clients will have to key. Those with older computers may not support the latest encryption methods. Some may recommend WPA, I'd say WEP (more compatability) and a simple (non-dictionary) password, like "@pple" or "@irPortXPr3ss" or any easy to communicate word(s) with a few letters replaced by vowels or (printable) symbols. It is up to you how often you change the password.

  • Trouble connecting to internet on Win Vista machine through Airport Express

    Hey all,
I have an Airport Express set up in my apartment and it works well. The problem is that my roommate, who has a laptop running Windows Vista, cannot connect to the internet. He can connect to our wireless network, and the signal strenghth is "excellent" but he cannot get an internet signal. I've tried running Airport Utility and it says an error occurred while trying to connect with the error code -6753.
I'm absolutely hopeless with Windows networking. Does anyone have any tips?

First thing is to contact your ISP and ask them for help. Simple issues could be: you need to restart the cable / dsl modem so it synchs to the AE; they may need to enter the actual MAC address of the router on the network (not as common now).

  • Cannot connect to remote speakers through Airport Express

Please help me! Please for the love of the mac guy on tv who encouraged me to switch.
I've been a happy mac user. I am not all that technically saavy and hence switched to a mac because "it just works." I bought the airport express and hooked it up through my WIRED network so that I could play tunes on my stereo from iTunes. Things have worked amazing and have had no problems until now. I don't even have the option now to look at remote speakers.
I know this is a common problem. This issue was even posted on Engadget for crying out loud. I've been reading these forums for the better part of the day trying things and I think I've actually made things worse.
I've resetted my airport express (now my iMac can't even find it). The AE still works though because my work computer can still see it and hook up to the internet through it. I've enabled IPv6 and have disabled IPv6 (have seen some conflicting information on that). I've went into the firewall settings and even added a port (5353) from another post I read. I've checked and double checked my iTunes settings and the option to check for remote speakers is on. I believe all of this happened since my iTunes was upgraded to the latest. For a computer that is supposed to just work, well, it just stopped working (the one issue).
I don't know if it shows, but I have an iMac G5 with OS 10.3.9. I know that's kind of old now, but the computer has been doing everything I've needed it to do. I like it. I just want this to work. So, I am begging anyone with any knowledge to pleeeeease help me out. Don't crucify me for not reading the other discussions. I have. I put in a great effort. Now again, I plead, help me - even if it takes a back and forth effort for a while. I thank all in advance for trying.

That's the other thing, AirPort setup assistant doesn't allow me to get very far. I get to the introduction page and click continue to begin. Then I get an error message saying I have no AirPort card installed (which is true, but not necessary because I'm on a wired network to get to the airport express base station).
Unfortunately, the AirPort Setup Assistant requires a wireless connection to work so the error you are getting when using it would be normal. Your options would be to use the AirPort Admin Utility or use the newer AirPort Utility on the Dell to administer your 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX). The latest version of this newer utility can be downloaded from here: AirPort Utility Setup 5.3.2 for Windows
If I click New then an error message pops up saing No new AirPort networks were found. Click continue to scan again. I can keep doing this with the same result.
When having difficulties accessing the base station from the AirPort Admin Utility, try the following:
o Make sure that you connect to the wireless network, created by the AX, before you attempt to access it with the utility. The default Network Name (or SSID) will be something like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the x's are the last six digits of the base station's AirPort ID.
o If the utility still doesn't find the base station, try temporarily connecting your computer directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try accessing it again.
o If the utility still can't find it, the I suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AX. Note: You may have to try this several times, but be sure that you get the rapid flashing status light to verify that the reset took. After successfully resetting the AX, and while still connected by Ethernet, try to access it with the AirPort Admin Utility again.
