No internet through guest network

Have 2 new airport extremes, one is connected to FIOS modem and configured as primary router with DHCP and NAT enabled, second is downstream via ethernet connection in bridge mode.  Guest network is active on both primary and downstream routers. Passwords, SSIDs are all the same, using automatic mode for channel. Main wireless network works fine but when connected to guest network there is no internet access. Have tried disabling guest network on downstream only with no success. Any ideas?

When you connect your Router to the Switch and you computers to the switch, you can give a static Ip to your computers and check if you are able to ping your router. If it still dosent work, then i think it might be the problem with the switch.

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport network

    Previously - worked
    Internet: DSL
    Network: via Airport Extreme
    Computers: 3 (G4 Tower, PowerBook G4, Xbox360)
Setup: I ran the ethernet cable out of the modem into the Aiport Extreme. Then I ran another ethernet cable into a router which then split the signal into two lines -- one going to the tower and one going to the Xbox. The laptop connected wirelessly. This worked using DHCP assigning multiple IP addresses to all on the network and indeed the two computers surfed the net with ease and I had no problems connecting or staying on Xbox Live.
    Currently - doesn't work
    Internet: Cable (Charter)
    Network: same
    Computers: same
Problem: I recently switched from DSL to Cable internet for faster speed. Here is what i found: When i connect the ethernet cable directly into the tower from the modem i can access the internet. If i connect the ethernet cable directly into the PowerBook G4 i get nothing. If i try to connect the ethernet cable to the Airport from the modem i get nothing as well. At first all i thought i had to do was change the account settings from that of the DSL to that of the Cable internet -- only there are no account settings for the Cable internet. I literally just plugged in the cable and was ready to go. I have tried resetting my airport to get rid of my previous [DSL] settings and redoing the Airport Setup Assistant to no avail.

ok so i unplugged my modem for a few minutes and then plugged the ethernet into the airport and turned the modem back on. now i can get internet on both my laptop and my tower. that works, thanks!
an odd aside tho is that before, when i was connecting through PPPoE, the laptop would automatically connect to my network (regardless of how many networks the airport card was picking up). now that i have the airport set to just connect via ethernet i have to manually log onto my network every time. is there a setting i'm forgetting about that enables automatic log in or is this just the case with connecting via ethernet?
here is the next problem, though. i bought a wireless adapter for my 360 and it cannot detect my network. it detects two other different networks that are in my complex but not mine. i have no idea if this is an airport issue or a 360 issue as powerbooks just automatically detect an airport base station. i have tried testing it in the same room as the airport with no luck. the only way i have connected to Xbox Live so far was to hard line an ethernet cable to the 360, shut the modem off, turn it back on and connect that way. if anyone knows anything about the 360 or has had similar problems trying to get their 360 up and running wirelessly through an airport please let me know

  • TS4505 Unable to connect to internet over Guest Network  (Airport)

I have changed the guest network's DNS server IPv4 addresses to 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76 and rebooted base station.  These are the values for Comcast.
Still not able to connect to internet over this guest network.
Do I need to do anything else?  Help!

Bob - thank you for your quick reply.  My setup is as shown in the attached image:
My guest network is on the Apple Airport TIme Capsule (v7.7.2).  Router mode for this time capsule shows "Off (Bridge Mode)" but grayed out.  No edits possible as shown below:
Northbound of the Time Capsule is my Apple Airport Extreme (v7.6.4) that is in turn connected to a Comcast uBee DDM3513 Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem.  I believe it is this one.

  • Routing and Remote access - internal network not accessing internet through public network!

    Hello,
    Good Evening to all.
I got an issue in routing and remote access on windows 2003 server.  This server is already configured as File server, domain server and Application server. Also configured as router (through routing & remote access) for connecting three different
network to each other. So This server has three NIC card installed and each NIC card represent separate network.
    three different network are - 192.42.160.0/24 , 192.42.161.0/24, 192.42.162.0/24
Three NIC card installed on server as with following IP address -
    NIC -1 = 192.42.160.220 , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - NO
    NIC -2 = 192.42.161.220 , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - 192.161.220.112 (This ip for internet access so 4g router IP)
    NIC -3 = 192.42.162.220,  , Sub- 255.255.255.0 , Gateway - NO
Now the issue is I can reach to internet & (also pinging to router ip 192.42.161.112) from only one network that is - 192.42.161.0/24 , BUT when I trying to access internet from another two network (192.42.160.0/24 & 192.42.162.0/24) I cant access
it and moreover can't ping to internet router ip - 192.42.161.112...
So how I can access to internet from other two network also?
I was already configured static routing for all three network but still I was not success. really I don't know what exactly static routing it should be done in routing & remote access so that all three network can reach to internet?
Sorry if I am not able to explain properly. Please let me know if you need more explain on this...
    Thanks to all.

    Dear Milos,
I am happy to hear from you....
1.- Actually the setup was done long before by another guy and right now I don't want to change it.
Nice to hear from you! Thank you so much. Actually this is first time I am using technet forum upon the suggestion from one of the my friend. So any your help from you will help me a great in this issue...
I ran the route print command and given follow are the results.
I have only added the default route as per the below routes. Please guide me know how to add other static routes for three network.

  • Airport Extreme bs not connecting to internet through ethernet network

I live in a dormitory at a school. I have a network jack in the wall of my apartment that connects me to the rest of the school network and the internet. I have an Apple airport music thing that plugs into the wall socket and delivers wireless network and internet access to my apartment.
I also have a new airport extreme base station that I set up by using the wizard set-up software. My computer sees the base station. The network connection software says I have a strong network connection. But I can't access any service either on the local network or the internet.
Any thoughts about what I should change in the base station set-up to make it talk to the rest of the world?

    I fixed it myself.
It was not a computer related problem. We have a network registration procedure that I forgot to do before the internet works.

  • My guests does not get internet access through my guest network

I have created a guest network on my time machine. The problem is that my guests don´t get internet access when they choose the network and type the password. I don´t understand why this is happening? My ordinary network is fully functional.

If you are using 7.6.3 firmware on the TC, the guest network does not actually work in bridge mode.. it looks like it does.. but nope, it doesn't.
Make sure the TC is the main router in the network.

  • My new iphone4 connected to the internet fine at the store today, but will not connect to my wifi at home - it sees the guest network, but does not give me a place to enter the password

I just got a new iphone 4 (my first one) and the internet worked great at the store, as well as in the parking lot at the grocery store on the way home - yes I was playing with it!  Anyway, now that I'm home and the store is closed, it won't connect to my home wifi.  It sees the guest network, but it doesn't give me place to put in the password, so I'm not sure if that's why it won't work.  Also, I don't know what settings to put in for the screen that comes after the network choice screen - it has IP Addresses with DHCP, BootP, and Statis (I don't know what any of these are or mean!)  It also has a 'renew lease' button that I have no idea what to do with, and it has a section with HTTP proxy that is highlighted "off" but also has 'manual' and 'auto' options - maybe these are not set correctly?
Very frustrating that there is no manual, and the website doesn't really help with this at all.  Thanks so much!

If you look at the top left of your screen you will either see a 3G (or 4G if you have AT&T) or you will see the wi-fi symbol.  If you don't see the wi-fi symbol you are connecting to Gmail through your cellular data plan, not via wi-fi.
To answer your question, it doesn't happen often but when it does the steps I mentioned above will normally resolve it.  Hopefully you won't have any further problem with this.

  • My Airport does not connect to network from Windows laptop, but guest network does connect to internet

I set up my new Airport Extreme and can connect to the network with any IOS device (iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad).  When attempting to connect to network with my work laptop (Windows 7), I get an error that it cannot connect.  I have no problem connecting to the Guest Network on this laptop.  Unfortunately, no network connection.

  • HP Pavillion dv6000 shows it is connected to Airport Extreme Guest network, but does not allow internet access.  Anyone have ideas what to do?

My MacBookPro works fine on both primary and guest networks.  HP info shows excellent signal strength.  Web page won't open.  Tried reducing security level from WPA2personal to WPA.  Tried entering TCP/IP addresses manually in HP.  I'm told that the HP works with other WiFi routers and can access Internet through other WPA2 setups.  I'm out of ideas.  Help?

With a PC, the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus software will sometimes block an attempted Internet connection.
Check both applications to see if you can find a "blocked" item and then take steps to "allow" the connection.
If still no luck, temporarily disable the wireless security for a short period to see if the PC can connect that way. If it can.....then you know it is security related issue.
See if the PC can connect using a setting like WPA-PSK-TKIP. The equivalent Apple setting would be WPA/WPA2 Personal.

  • HT1998 My iPAD can use the internet through my airport extreme, but the airport utility does not see it so I can't create a guest password.  What am I doing wrong?

My iPAD can use the internet through my Airport Extreme, but the Airport Utility does not see the device so I can't set a guest password.

If your Mac is using the Lion operating system with recent updates, it will be necessary to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Select the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Click the Wireless Network Options button
Remove the check mark next to Create a closed network
Click Done, then click Update to save the new settings and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

  • Internet Access Not Available on WAP Guest Network

    Hello,
We have the RV180W router and the WAP321 access point in our business. We want to broadcast two SSIDs from both locations: the office SSID, which shares routing to LAN traffic, and a guest SSID.
The office computers are attached via ethernet to a switch off of LAN port 1 on the router. The AP is attached to LAN port 2 on the router.
On the router, the office SSID and the LAN are members of VLAN 1. The guest network is a member of VLAN 2. From the router, everything works just fine.
On the WAP, the staff SSID works fine, but the guest SSID has no internet. Both the office and guest networks get DHCP successfully from the router.
Our VLAN membership table in the router and WAP are attached, as well as other configuration details.
Why would we not be getting internet on the guest ID only on the WAP? Thanks for your help!

Applying specific DNS configurations for VLAN2 and on the AP does not resolve the issue either.
    Here's a bit more clarification.
    From the router:
Staff network works just fine (IP in subnet 192.168.1.1 is given, internet can be accessed)
Guest network works just fine (IP in subnet 192.168.2.1 is given, internet can be accessed)
    From the AP:
Staff network works just fine (IP in subnet 192.168.1.1 is given, internet can be accessed)
Guest network can be accessed with limited connectivity (IP in subnet 192.168.2.1 is given, internet cannot be accessed)
The guest network from the AP is the only oddball. The only thing I can think that seems different is the subnets. For the staff network, we specify that the gateway, DHCP server, and DNS server are all 192.168.1.1, the router. But the guest network, tied to VLAN2, is in the subnet 192.168.2.1. From the router, you can specify that VLAN1 looks at the staff subnet and VLAN2 looks at the guest subnet, but I don't see a way to do this in the AP, it just has the place for one of each of those to be specified (per screenshot ap-ipv4.png).

  • How to setup the guest network just access internet only (not touch in internal server)

I had setup the AirPort Extreme in basic and guest network, but observed the guest can access to our server currently, for the security issue, we can setup the guest network to access internet only? pleae advice and thanks

By default, a properly configured Guest network on the AirPort Extreme only allows network clients to access the Internet. No access to the "main" network's resources should be available.
This is assuming that the AirPort Extreme is the only or "main" router in your current network configuration.

  • Airport Guest Network - Connects but no internet

I'm using and Airport Extreme Base Station (A1354), software version 7.6.4. The secure networks are fine and work perfectly to serve up an internet connection.
However, the guest network (which is currently set to no password) connects just fine but no internet is provided. I've tried everything I can click on to get it to work but nada. I've rebooted, naturally, as well as removed the guest network and created new ones with new names and passwords as well as no password versions.
    Can anyone help?

The most common cause of Guest Network issues is trying to connect the AirPort Extreme to a modem/router or gateway type of device, when it needs to connect to a simple modem. A simple modem will always have only one Ethernet port.
Click on the Network tab and check the setting for Router Mode.  If it is set to "Off (Bridge Mode)" you have the AirPort connected to a modem/router or gateway type of device that is both a modem and router in the same package.
The Guest Network cannot operate correctly in the "Off (Bridge Mode)" setting......but at the same time this is the correct setting for your AirPort Extreme to work with your modem/router or gateway device.  Kind of a Catch 22.
If the Guest Network feature is important to you. ask your ISP if they can provide you with a simple modem.....not a modem/router or gateway.  Or, ask your ISP if it is possible to reconfigure the modem/router to act as a only a modem. If it is, the Guest Network feature will work correctly once the device has been setup to operate only as a modem.

  • Guest Network Internet Not Working

    Hi,
I recently replaced the router on my network with a new AirPort Extreme. I use the AirPort utility to configure the AE, and turned on the guest network feature.
My problem is that I can get internet access when I use the guest network instead of the internal network. The problem persists on both Mac's and PC's.
What might be the problem, and how to I fix it?

Version 7.5.1 is the latest version of firmware for the AirPort Extreme so you are definitely up to date in that respect.
Other than trying a power cycle of the network, (power everything off and then start the modem first and let it run a few moments, then the AirPort Extreme for a few moments, then your other devices and computers one at time), there's really nothing more in way of troubleshooting that I can suggest.
If you try a few restarts and the same issue persists, I would suspect that you, like some other recent users, have a defective device that should be replaced.
Please let us know how things progress.
