i try to sync the phone but it tells me i cant cause they cant find a iphone folder? what gives?

IPhone folder structure lost on sync

I have a lovely new iPhone 6, running iOS 8.2. On my old 4S I had organised my apps into a set of folders in such a way that they all fit on the home screen, with no paging left and right required. I was very disappointed to find this setup was lost when I restored my new phone from a backup of the old one - the folders were there but, apart from the apps that come with the phone by default, which were where I'd put them, all the remaining apps were spread over four and a bit pages in a completely random order - a complete mess, in other words. Anyway, I accepted this as a small price to pay for upgrading the phone and spent some time rebuilding my previous setup (referring to the 4S as I went), and all was well... until...
This morning I synced the phone with my Mac (and only to copy three podcasts), only to find that all that reorganisation was lost! I was back to the previous shambles. I've tried soft-resetting the phone, but that hasn’t helped. And yet the folders are 'remembered' on the Mac: each app is listed as being in the folder where I had put it.
Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, is there anything I can do to prevent a repeat?

OK, first the possible good news :
If the music purchased is still on the work computer back it up to disk and transfer it to your home computer.
The copy folder - iTunes>File>Add Folder to iTunes- will put it on your home computer.
If you will be using the iPhone on both computers set it up to be managed manually to prevent other surprises and remember to keep your music backed up.
Now the bad news :
If the music was on the iPhone and you have no back up on the work computer when you synced you erased the music and you can't download it again.

Apple is very clear that once you buy the music it's your job to do the back ups that will prevent lost purchases.

IPhone folder icons

My old eyes are not as good as they once were and it sure would be helpful to have a picture icon instead of small font text to help identify folders on my iPhone. For example I use both written text messages as well as verbal text messages through the app called Hey Tell and I would like to put them in the same folder and would prefer to have the same icon that is presently used for written text messages (or something similar) to be the icon to open up the folder. Hopefully that makes sense. Any of you creative geniuses have a solution for those of us with less than 20/20 vision? As always I appreciate the help.

I can confirm this works. Just remember to use three fingers to zoom in and drag down to zoom out.
You can also edit where your app icons are on your phone by going into iTunes (with your phone plugged in), going to your iPhone, then selecting the Apps tab. You can drag and drop where your apps will show up just like on your phone.

How do I delete videos and pictures from the iphone folder called "phone"?

If I go to albums in the pictures app I have a folder called "phone". I want to clear up some space and delete pictures and videos from there, but there is no option "delete". These pictures are not in the icloud, but seem to be stored on the phone itself. I tried to access this folder through itunes and iphoto, but still n possibility to delete them. is there any way to delete those without flattening the whole thing?

It is synced you have to have the computer to do it.

So sorry everyone; my last post was confusing! I am new at this. I am trying to deal with two issues. Neither notes nor pages is syncing right with iCloud drive. I am having the same problems now on the iPhone with Pages that I was having with notes, so I reloaded Pages it and it helped with most the Pages docs. (Sorry this thread is the wrong place to mention that.) Originally, I found "Notes" difficult for organizing my notes, so I copied the important ones into pages. Now Pages doesn't sync either and that's what I was addressing in my last post by mistake.
Back to discussing notes; maybe this will help someone. From Notes on the iPhone, I go to accounts in the top left corner. In Accounts I choose "On My iPhone" and copy the note in my iPhone that I want to get into iCloud. Then I go back to Accounts and then choose "iCloud". In iCloud I paste the copied note from the iPhone account into a new note in the iCloud account. It seems to then save to the cloud. It is essentially just adding a new note to the cloud, but I don't have to retype it. I would imagine there is an easier way than this work-around, though. Chris, thanks again.

DCIM folder cannot be deleted on iPhone

When I switched from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5, I transferred my photos manually into the phone, (because there wasn't enough space of iCloud to transfer them through that). I dragged the folder of photos on my computer into the iPhone folder on my Windows computer.
Now the photos are in the iPhone, and are in a folder labelled DCIM. This folder can't be edited in any way, so I have no idea how to delete it now that I don't want it in my phone taking up space. Is there a way to delete it? I'm now using a mac, but I do have access to a Windows. When I plugged my phone into a Windows computer, it did not show up under the "My Computer" section though.

Tap Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage to see the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.
Tap an app for more detailed information about its usage.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of the app's content, or delete the app and all of its content.
When you tap on the Music app, the first item listed will be All Songs. Swipe to the left and then tap Delete.
You can now manually sync the songs you want from your iTunes Library to your iPhone:

Pics on iphone but when plugged into computer is says the folder is empty

I have a new computer with Win 8.1 on it. When I plug my phone into my computer it comes up with Apple IPhone and says there are no files or folder in this view.
It does not give me any options.
There are pics on my IPhone.
I can not find any IPhone folder on my computer.

ITunes 10.1, OSX 10.6.5, iOS 4.1 can't sync iTunes photos to a folder

I am on OSX 10.6.5, iTunes 10.1 and iOS 4.1 (3gs model). In iTunes I have photo syncing to a folder and everytime I try to sync, no photos go from iPhone -> folder on my mac. I've even tried deleting that iPod Photo Cache folder. No dice.
Any ideas anyone?

I was having this same issue with +iOS 4.1+, but using an older +PPC Mac+ running +Tiger 10.4.11+. My iTunes is older than yours, at version 9.2, but it exhibits the same behavior.
It seems that the iTunes interface for syncing photos is a *red herring*.

When I try to import songs/playlists to my iPhone 6, grey spotted circle shows up next to most songs and they won't play. Help

I just set up my iPhone 6. I made a full backup from my 5 to iTunes. Everything was backed up and transferred except any of my music. Simple enough to do it manually, I thought and tried. But when I transfer a playlist from iTunes to the iPhone most songs show up in light grey with a dotted circle next to them once they are on the iPhone list and they won't play.
There are lots of threats about grey dotted circles from the past. Does anybody know what the issue is? I have the newest iTunes version and IOS version (8.02) for the 6. Why is this happening and how can this be fixed? This is all my music on my mac and most of it was on my previous iPhone 5, so why won't it play on the 6?

I was asking a little fast. It did indeed not work for a little while (up to 20 minutes) but once I started chatting with apple support it started resolving itself. The grey dotted circles mean two things. 1) the computer was taking some time to transfer the songs onto the phone (quite some time for some songs) but then they appeared on my phone. and 2) those songs I purchased, I can listen to on my phone and my imac, but they will remain unable to play (grey dotted circle) when I look at them on iTunes in my iphone playlist. So, I can play it on regular itunes or on my iphone, but not in my iphone folder on itunes. I hope that makes sense.
So problem got resolved for me. I hope this helps.

Data recovery for Iphone 4s that was wiped

Thank you for taking the time to review my question. I have an Iphone 4s that a client wiped (reset) The phone is currently in set up mode. My client had data (photos, notes, contacts) that were NOT backed up and were on the phone, prior to unintentional wipe. I can see that the DCIM folder has data in it, but when I look in the folder I see nothing. ( I am using iexplorer software to view the iphone folder structure on my PC. It won't let me reply to you for some reason.
1. Go into Itunes. Go to preferences. Go to advanced. Check 'Keep Itunes media folder organized' and 'Copy folders to itunes media folder when adding libraries'. Press Okay.
2.Hook up Iphone to computer without Itunes running so it runs as a external harddrive. Go into computer and click on your iphone folder so it goes into it and you can see different folders. There is a button on the top left corner of the window that says 'Organize'. Click on it and go down to folder and search options. Click on 'View' tab. Go down and check on where it says 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'. Click apply, click okay. Now you will see some extra folders in there. One will be you itunes music folder. Go into it and there will be many folders labeled 0 to 40 something. When you got into one of these folders all the files will be labeled with weird 4 letter and number sequences. You need to go into each of these folders and drag and drop all these files into wherever you want them "music folder? It doesn't matter" It will take a little while and after you have done that disconnect you phone and open itunes.
3. Go to 'Add file to library' then highlight all the hundreds or however many you have files, then click 'okay'. Itunes will now import all the weirdly labeled files and turn them into real songs.
4. Hook up your phone and sync. You can now delete all those numbered files, to make space if you want to.

Restore computer from backup, then you shall have same iTunes library ID and be able to sync.
No backup? This is worse, your options include:
- If your music was bought from iTunes, this is no worry. iTunes will fetch them from cloud.
- If you ripped your CDs, you'd need to re-rip them.
- If you downloaded your music elsewhere, you'd need to repeat the process.
If you must grab remaining music off your iPhone, there are some paid software tools exist to do this.
You may have a look at trying Ubuntu that used to have some tricks to do that (free). Just run a live CD or off USB stick, do not install.

open the iPhone folder then DCIM then copy all photos off your old phone then open iPhone folder for the new phone the DCIM and paste all photos in their
