No iphoto on new MacBookAir

Hi! I bought a new macbookair from apple and it doesn't have iphoto, and does have a tab for cd/dvds in system preferences. Do I have the wrong software or something? I have OS X 10.8

Actually, at least in the U.S., all new Macs come with iLife pre-installed which includes iPhoto.

I suggest going to the App Store, click on the "Purchases" tab, and see if iPhoto (and the other iLife components) show up there.

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.

I have a new MacBookAir with iTunes 11.3. All my music was transferred from my old MacBookPro; but, only purchased music from Apple shows up in albums, and songs. None of my other music appears, and no playlists have been displayed.

How to get non-purchased from Apple music and playlists to appear on my new MacBookAir with Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3, when all the prior music was transferred from MacBookPro. I see the library.itl files, and have removed them and imported the Library.xml file; but, still do not have access to playlists or any music I have taken from my CD collection. I see this as a common issue on the dozens of web searches. Is there a fix for this new iTunes 11.3?

Nothing new; same thing i have been posting for years. Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. Without exact details I can't tell what you did wrong but you probably didn't move the right files to the right place. Unfortunately youd id not want to delete the .itl file. The .xml has much of the same but your ratings, date added and playcounts are now gone.

HT5628 ctrl-alt-del logon & Bitlocker on Win8 with new MacBookAir doesn't work

Am running the latest BootCamp and have a brand new MacBookAir and Win8.
On the Windows Logon Screen I can't use ctrl+alt-del even with fn key or on-screen keyboard. The only way I can logon is by plugging in my keyboard - does any one have a tip please?
I'd like to use Bitlocker HD encryption in Win8, but don't know how to do this, e.g. with storing the Key on a USB thumbdrive if that's the only option - any help is apppreciated.

Besides 'new album' , 'wall photos', or 'iPhoto Uploads' ... it only shows 24 pre-existing albums to choose. I need to see the other 50, 60, etc albums I have.
I've also noticed that iPhoto fails to load to certain albums with some 'Domin Exception' error of some kind (not sure the exact message).

You need to make the new Mac iTunes library your syncing library. iTunes on the Mac sees your iPad as a new device because you have never synced with this computer before. You can make the Mac your syncing computer by following the instructions in this user tip. You will be able to transfer the purchased music on the iPad into iTunes when you follow this procedure.

Can't import iphoto to new Photos, asking for 1TB additional space?? common

Basiclay yestarday i decided to upgrade to new ISO, a big mistake, photos that i use for work are on my external harddrive iPhotos to which i can get access after upgrade.
I googled the problem and basiclay all i had to do is import iphoto to new Photos, sounds easy, except it takins so slow, im mean realy slow, anyway, leave computer over night on, to comback this monring it stuck on 8% and asking for addition 1 TB of space.
My questions is how to i downgrade it to old versión cos i need photos now.
where do i suspose to find extra 1 TB of space which i dont have, or i have to buy new hdd?? also how it come up with 1TB since my photos take half of that maybe more....
Its so silly to me, besucase seems like wasnt though throrowly for people who have big iphoto librarys
i would like to know if any solution here or i need new hdd? i use my passport ultra 2TB

How have you tried to do that?
You don't have to import iPhoto to Photos, you have to open she iPhoto Libray in Photos.
Either drag the iPhoto Library (not the application) onto the Photos icon in the Dock.
Or launch Photos while holding down the alt/options key to select your iPhoto Library for migration.
Where i your iPhoto library stored? On an external drive or your system drive?

Many of My Places silently updated by iPhoto to New Place

iPhoto 8.0.4 silently changed 49 of the names I had defined in My Places and they are now all called New Place.
The location of the pin of each of the 49 places has not been altered by iPhoto and I will be able to use Manage My Places to edit the names once again.
Due to bugs in the earlier versions of iPhoto '09 I had postponed using places and had set the preferences for Look up places to Never.
Now with a Nikon GP-1 and the newest iPhoto '09 I was hoping Places was ready for prime time.
The location from the Nikon GP-1 shows up in iPhoto, but the place was not updated and no pin was available.
After changing the preferences for Look up places to automatic the pins appeared correctly.
However after the update many of my places previously defined had been renamed by iPhoto to "New Place".
The 49 original names are lost, but I can go back and redefine the names. Bloody annoying, but it's a one time job... I hope... Unless...
Should I expect this to happen if I toggle the preferences in the future?

You have bad data in your EXIF fields on your photos
At one time early on someone posted that iPhoto was switching the sign (making negative locations positive as I remember) on some Geo Data - if these are old photos that have been in iPhoto for a while that might be what the problem is - export one and look at the EXIF data in preview or with a third party program like CD Finder Inspector - http://www.cdfinder.de/en/en/geotagging.html

Older Airport Express and new MacBookAir pairing....

Here's the story:
I have a MacBookAir (very nice) which I use in a place without a wired / telephone line / broadband internet access. So, I use a Vodaphone wireless broadband connection using a USB dongle. Works well. That, of course, uses up the only available USB port on the MacBookAir, which means I am not able to easily plug in my small portable printer, which also requires USB, unless I disconnect the Vodaphone dongle, unplug it, plug in the computer, printer, then reestablish the Vodaphone connection....you see the hassle !
I have an older Airport Express (not sure if it is a, b, g ?) probably 3 years old. I had thought that I could use it to create a wireless network with my MacBookAir to use for printing.
The configuration I envisaged was as follows: Airport Express in to plug socket; USB connection from AE to printer. No physical connection between AE or printer to MacBookAir.
Using Airport Utility I try to discover the AE but scanning comes up with nothing. The AE in the meantime when first plugged in shows solid green, then a solid amber, then after about 15 seconds goes to flashing amber. Evidently, the AE, Airport Utility and my MacBookAir are not finding each other.
So: is it that the older AE and the new MacBookAir are not compatible. using different versions of the 802.11 ? Or have I got the set up completely wrong ? - ie. does the AE not speak wirelessly to the computer ? - does it need another base station to create the wireless network eg. Time Capsule or Airport Express Base Station ? I thought an AE would create its own little wireless network.

What do you mean by "plug socket"? Is that the AC/power connection?

That indicates that everything is OK but the AirPort Express (AX) could not get an IP address. You would expect that if the AX is not connected to the Internet.
So: is it that the older AE and the new MacBookAir are not compatible. using different versions of the 802.11 ?
The MacBook Air is compatible with 802.11b/g so you should be able to see and use the AX.
Some countries allow operation in different channels. US made and sold equipment only uses channels 1 to 11. If your AX is using a channel above 11 and the MacBook Air is a US model, the MacBook Air will not be able to connect. Try configuring the AX to use a channel between 1 and 11.
Using Airport Utility I try to discover the AE but scanning comes up with nothing.
Have you done a reset on the AX?
Have you tried temporarily connecting your MacBook Air (or another computer) to the AX via Ethernet to configure the AX?

iPhoto and Aperture are each brilliant programs, brilliantly designed and implemented. Where they differ is in the user the designers seemed to have in mind.
iPhoto is more "Mac-like". It's a turn-key solution for someone who wants to be able to manage and use digicam images without ever opening a manual. You can do a lot with it; it is hard to screw up.
Aperture is deep, rich, and powerful. It is almost a database management system for Images (it lacks full scripting, etc.). There is nothing turn-key about it: to use it well (to say nothing of mastering it) you will have to spend scores of hours learning. You will have to determine what kind of storage, retrieval, and publishing workflow you want -- and then you will have to implement it.
That, imho, is the difference: iPhoto comes pre-assembled -- just add photos! Aperture comes tightly packed in a very heavy box, with an eight-hundred page manual. Not surprisingly, you can do 10x more with Aperture than with iPhoto -- but it will take you 10x the effort to get it up and running.
Neither is better. As with all computer tools, you should use the simplest one that meets your needs.

After five month, even the Photo Stream will have lost most of the older photos, but if you had Photo Stream enabled on your old computer, enable it again using the same AppleID you used with your old Mac, see: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
How did you take your photos? With your camera? With a smart phone? Do you still have photos on the card or the phone? Sometimes it is possible to use(expensive) data recovery on cards, if the card has not been frequently overwritten.
Look at all the places where you shared your photos - Facebook, Flickr, email? If you send them by email, they may still be on the server, attached to your older mails. This will depend on settings for the server.
But the first thing to do to prevent future data loss: Buy an external drive to make regular backups of your data.

which resolution are you using when you use your monitor? Is that resolution supported through the monitor’s VGA port? (You’d probably have better throughput by using an adapter for the HDMI port or DVI port instead.) When you say that the trackpad doesn’t work, does that mean that the cursor is not visible on the monitor, or that it physically does not work, such that clicks are not registered, &c.?

I have a new Mac book air and I want ot transfer my iphoto library from my powerbook g4 to the new one.
fisrt step : I have used a external HD formated Mac OS esteso (journaled) and succeed to copy the entire Iphoto library (25Gb) from the G4 to the ext HD.
second step : I'm trying to copy from the external HD the Iphoto library to my new MacBook Air 13" (Mac OSX 10.7.2 - Iphoto '11 ver 9.2.1).
                       Problem : After copying 1GB on 25GB, an error pop up "can't copy the file why a folder or file having same name is present in the computer                                         ....."
                       What I have tried : a) Change name of the file => no result !
                                                      b) renamed all iphoto folder o file => no result !
Can U help me please, I'm sure there is a solution; I can't imagine that everyone has to reorganize and rework thousand and thousand of photos (name, descriptions, ....) !!!

It can't be done with iPhoto. There are some DAM (digital asset management) applications that can write to other IPTC fields that iPhoto can't read. One such app is Media Pro 1.
However you would have to calculate the age for each date and add it to one of the fields. There are online age calculators that can do that for you: Age Calculators
If you go thru that much trouble then use iPhoto, make the calculations and add the age to the Description field. Then you can use Smart Albums to search for 1year 6 month text.
