No ipod can connect to my machine

I have searched and searched, and I have not found anyone with this specific problem. At this point, I am fairly confident that the problem is in my computer and not my ipod, as my ipod can connect just fine to any other machine. Additionally, any other ipod connected to my computer experiences the same problems.
Upon connecting an ipod to my new Mac Pro, one of four things happens:
1. Absolutely nothing.
2. My ipod acknowledges that is has been connected, but it does not mount on the desktop or in itunes.
3. The ipod mounts, but I receive an error from itunes informing me that the the ipod count not be properly identified, and I should reconnect it.
4. On rare occasions, my ipod begins syncing, but gets "stuck" on a certain song, and will not progress farther even after hours of waiting.
In all of these instances, I am never able to safely disconnect the ipod, and I'm forced to just pull the plug on it.
I have tried the following steps to remedy this situation:
• I have followed the 5Rs.
• I have tried every USB port on my machine, and with different USB cables.
• I have reinstalled the "ipod support" files from the Leopard install disk.
• I have reinstalled itunes, including trashing the itunes preferences from my user Library, trashing my itunes playlist, and rebuilding my entire music library.
• I have run software update, and I have ensured that itunes and the OS are up to date.
So far, none of these things has had an effect. The only thing I have not attempted is completely reinstalling the OS, which I would like to avoid if at all possible. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Welcome to the Forum.
Sounds most annoying. If the iPod connects to any other machine without issue, as you say, we can assume the problem is with yours. When did this start happening? Did you upgrade to 10.5.4 from 10.5.3 via software update? If so, it might be worth installing the 10.5.4 Combo update over the top. It's a big download, and not for slow internet users, but these combo updates have been known to sort out a number of seemingly unexplained issues, as they will repair any damaged/corrupt code as they contain all previous updates - worth a go.

Hello, If you are dealing with one of the really thin iMac's that have no superdrive, then the superdrive icon should not appear on the desktop when you plug it in, but when you put in a disk (CD, DVD, etc.) that should appear. If you go into disk utility, and look at superdrive, that should be clickable and not grayed out when you have it plugged in. If this does not show up in disk utility, go to Apple, and ask to speak to their supervisor, speaking to a customer service agent is like talking to a potato, nothing gets done. Good Luck!

My paper work for my linksys says WEP 64 bits. I've tried changing my IPOD to that and it will say put in password and when I do I get "invalid password" or can not connect. This has been in the last few weeks. I have researched this for the last 2 weeks, called apple and they said it's not my IPOD, called Linksys and they want to charge $30 to fix it. How do I change my router without totaly not messing it up?

  • Why Buy Apple TV When IPOD can connect to TV In DVD Quality

Ive been a PC guy my whole life but now Im looking into Apple products more so than ever. I bought some AV Cables for my ipod and connected to my TV and was amazed by the picture quality. My question is - What does Apple TV offer thats worth paying $250 more rather than connecting an ipod to a TV?

WHATY IF I dont think paying $250 more for those relativley small comforts is economical. And I have 10 movies and 5-6 TV shows. (For me) Thats far more than enough LOL. And I dont mind getting up walking 8 steps and plugging in 1 cable. This is the one thing about Apple I havent liked - pay a few hundered dollars more for very small convienences. And it may not be DVD quality but in my oppinion its 95% close enough lol.

  • I can see my airport extreme network, but none of my devices (vista, ipad, iphone, ipod) can connect to it. Why?

I have set up my apple aiport extreme after moving and I can see the airport extreme light is green and I can see the airport extreme network name, but when I select the network, the device cannot connect to it. No error message appears, the device simply is in a constant state of trying to connect to the network.
I can easily connect to the non Airport Extreme network.
    Can anyone help?

Try factory resetting, it often helps when changing location.

if not then how do i use the unlimited data ive been given through my mobile network provider please tell me most kindly  Purchase a mobile WiFi hotspot (Sometimes referred to as a MyFi), or have that service added to your cell phone.
geeeeesar also how does this ipod touch4  pick up the  wifi free of charge is this possible or do you have to pay for limited data to access internet Your iPod can connect to any unsecured WiFi network that you are currently within range of.  These networks can be found at your local library, some city/county government buildings, doctor's offices, Denny's, IHOP, Starbuck's, Home Depot, Lowes, Best Buy, and other merchants.  Your iPod can connect to any secured WiFi network that you are within range of and that you have the password for.
thanks  can i pod touch 4 generation download movies too  please help thank u very much....  Yes.  If your iPod has a WiFi connection and you have an account with a service like NetFlix....

  • Can't see Windows machines in Finder/Shared

I have upgraded to 10.5.2 and can't see Windows machines on my local network in the shared panel of finder. I can connect to the machines using their IP address in using the Go to server command and the IP address then shows in the finder. I want the windows machines to show by their name, automatically, in the finder pane as they should.
All machines on the network have assigned ip addresses by in the router.

    Hello
In the DNS settings of your router there should be two options:
    1. DNS server set by ISP
    2. Enter DNS server manually
If you have set option 2 and you use a service such as Open DNS or if you have 1 and your ISP offers a rubbish DNS server when you try to connect from finder the DNS server tries to resolve the name of the machine gives you a wrong IP address and after a long time waiting you get a connection error.
    Solution:
    1. Try to eliminate open dns and use the ISP dynamically set DNS server
    2. If 1 still gives a problem (your ISP DNS is rubbish) and you have assigned static IP to your machines follow those instructions:
    a. Enter as administrator in each MAC OS X 10.5 machine and open the terminal
    b. enter the following command at the prompt: sudo pico /etc/hosts
    c. insert an entry for each of your other computers followed by the computer name
    d. save the file and reboot the machine
    e. You should now see the other computers on the finder bar and be able to connect using SMB://SERVERNAME provided all computers are in the same workgroup
    f. repeat the process for the other MAC OS X 10.5 machines

  • Connecting to other machines!!

I have installed solaris 8.0 on sunfire v100. Everything is going fine, but the problem is other machines can access it with both name and IP address, while this machine can connect to other machines with IP address only. i have put the nameserver in resolv.conf also, added router, but it doesn't work. Please help!!!

    Hello,
You have to force solaris to use dns naming service instead of only using files. This is done with the file /etc/nsswitch.conf. You must edit it and include dns at the hosts entry (line). Have you done this?

  • How can I use my airport extreme to connect a windows machine to the internet? I don't have the software disks anymore...

I no longer have any disks for my airport extreme (its pre-time capsule)... how can I connect my windows machine to it in order to get to the internet?

You can directly download the AirPort Utility for Windows from Apple Support here.
Once the AirPort Extreme is properly configured for Internet access you can connect your PC to the Extreme either by a wired or wireless connection.

You probably can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
    1)  The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
    2)  Backups are likely going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule.  Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

  • My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.
