No iTunes or iPhoto access from iMovie

I am using Mac OS X 10.4.11 with iLife 08 on a 2 1/2 year old Macbook.
I created a few projects in iMovie last summer for the kids ( great fun ). 2 days ago I started iMovie up again. One of the kids and I descided to change a piece of music from a project. After that I were not able to open either iTunes nor iPhoto via the small icons. I tried a lot. No joy.
I got all the latest updates. Still no joy. When I used my wifes Macbook to do the same there where no problems. ?????
Anyone got an idea of whats wrong I would be happy to hear from you.
All the best from Denmark :-))

Hi stro1rob,
Can you please verify the LED's on the front panel of the chassis when you have the controller powered on?
The POWER OK LED indicates the power status of the controller and will either be ON and steady, blinking, or OFF. The DRIVE LED indicates when an access to the internal hard disk is occurring.
Try hooking up another DVI monitor (that is known to work) to your chassis. There could be a number of things going on right now, so we should try isolating the problem. I'm assuming that you are also connected to your network via the Ethernet port, so I would try connecting again with another cable.
Here is a KB that discusses a BIOS issue that can cause your video output to disappear, but since you have mentioned that your setup originally worked, I doubt this is the case, but it might still be worth looking at.
If the above mentioned things do not work out, you would probably need to get your controller RMA'ed. To do so, please call into NI Support.

  • Any way to restore iTunes and iPhoto libraries from failed Time Machine backup?

Is there a way to restore iTunes and iPhoto libraries from an unmountable Time Machine backup?
Background: I received an update alert on my iMac (mid-2010, 1TB) from Time Machine (wirelessly connected to a Time Capsule, 2TB 2013)  that it required an update and required rebooting, of course, it happened when I was in the middle of a project and I postponed the restart for later.  That evening I turned off the computer and coincidentally the next morning, the iMac would not start; it loaded to the Apple logo and about an 1/8 of the progress bar would load before the iMac would turn off.
The iMac had been fine to that day (OS upgrades and all since 2010) so I was assuming something misfired when I declined the Time Machine update. I tried the PRAM and SMC resets mentioned in the forums but no dice. I then went into Disk Utility to try repairs and there were errors on the hard drive that could not be fixed. My next step was to erase the drive and restore from my Time Machine backup. Before doing that I checked Disk Utility and to my horror,  it told me that my Time Machine backups were unmountable so of course my first thought was that all my files were gone.
The TC was under warranty so I called support and they referred me to the local Genius Bar. The Genius was great and showed me that my files weren't lost even though the Time Machine backup was unmountable. They recommended I erase the partitions, starting from scratch and I would have to transfer the Time Machine backup files manually by directly connecting an ethernet cable from the TC to the computer. If that didn't work, the hard drive was bad and needed replacement which they could take care of.
I followed their recommendation and the hard drive is fine. I was so relieved to hear that my files were safe that I forgot to ask about all of the metadata that was lost in iTunes (de-selected songs, playlists, rankings, play counts) and iPhoto (geotags, names, etc). Any ideas / help? I sank considerable time into my music and photos and would love to have that time back.
FWIW, I'm in the process of buying an external hard drive as a secondary backup to the TC as my confidence is a little shaken on the product line - the first time I ever actually need a backup and the backup is unmountable. My whole point of spending a little more and buying into the Apple ecosystem for a backup solution was to streamline the backup process and avoid these types of issues.

Thank you for the reply. I tried the Disk Utility to repair my TC's Time Machine backup disk with no luck, it stopped with the message:
    Disk utility stopped repairing "iMac"
Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
It took a night but I was able to copy all the TC Time Machine files to the external hard drive as a backup to a backup just in case. I'm still pretty bummed the TC's backup didn't allow for Disk Utility's restore functionality. Fortunately, the iPhoto library backup I dragged to the iMac from the Time Capsule backup worked without a hitch. On the downside, the "iTunes Library.itl" backup I dragged over is locked so now I'm checking out the forums for any ways to fix that. I temporarily created a new iTunes library with all my apps and music but plan on reverting to the old iTunes library if possible so I can start syncing my iOS devices again.

  • I would like to know how to get refunded when my iTunes account was accessed from an unusual device.

I received a receipt for a purchase I did not make in the store. It's for a single $1.29 ringtone. The same day I received an email saying my account had been accessed from a different device than was usual. I followed the directions and change my password but I want to know if my account will be credited back the $1.39 for the ringtone I did not purchase.

  • Delete iphoto thumbnails from imovie

    Hi,
I am using imovie for the first time and when it launched, it prompted if I wanna import movies from iphoto. And I clicked now, and it generated thumbnails for all the videos in iphoto. How do I delete these? I want to remove the link between iphoto movies and imovie, as from my understanding, everytime I would open imovie, it would try to link and update the thumbnails. Further I have lots of videos in iphoto. I am not sure if I am duplicating them and consuming my HD space. Please help.
PS : In iphoto, 'copy items to iphoto library' is unchecked.
    Thanks

iMovie will not delete anything in iPhoto.

  • IPhoto access from iPads

OK, maybe a simple question, maybe not, but I've been unable to find a clear answer.
The queation is easy:  is there a way that I can access my iPhoto library from iPads/iPhones on the same network (MAC is wired).  I'm not looking to edit or store photos, just to view thm and occasionally move some to the iDevices camera roll or local library for sharing, emailing, etc.
I am looking for a local networked solution and not interested in moving all of the photos onto iCloud.
    thanks, B

You cannot access your entire photo library via a "networked" solution. The only way to have access to a single library from all devices is to store that library in a single accessible place - i.e., a cloud of some sort.
You do have a way for all of your Camera Roll photos from all of your devices shared with all of your other devices via Photo Stream. You can also share selected photos between all devices using a Shared Photo Stream sent to your own email address.
I presume you are already familiar with Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams?

  • How to remove multiple iphoto images from imovie timeline?

When I import still photos into imovie  from iphoto, and drop them on the timeline in imovie,  instead of a single picture appearing I get multiple copies of the same photo.  Can anyone suggest a cure or workaround?

If you are draggin straight out of iPhoto into the iMovie window, I don't know what kind of reaction you will get out of iMovie. If you use the Photo Browser tool in the iMovie Toolbar, it should let you do multiple selections and still drag them to the timeline (hold down ⌘ Command key and select individually or hold down Shift and select a range).

  • HT1491 Search option tab doesn't appear on my iTunes Store when accessed from iPad or iphone

iTunes Store has recently been launched in India ....however search option tab seems to be missing in the app when accessed from iPad or iPhone. Also the purchase option is visible in iPad but missing in iPhone

    Me too. 34000+ items.
Gotta wonder if that's a factor.
Just now I removed all remotes from iTunes.
(Prefs > Devices > Forget All Remotes)
Then I turned on Home Sharing on my iPhone.
(Tap the gear icon in the Library selection screen.)
Previously the iPhone was registered as a regular remote.
So both devices are controlling iTunes via home sharing.
Now iTunes is not crashing at all, in full-screen mode or otherwise.
Not sure if it will last, but time will tell.
Hope this is useful to you.
I'll post back if the crashes return.

  • When you delete iPhotos videos from iMovie...

is that deleted from the iPhoto as well? (I hope there isn't a copy in both iMovie and iPhoto)

As long as the app remains in the store then you can re-download it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app, or via the Purchased Link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
Similarly ibooks can be re-downloaded, and depending upon what country that you are in then music, films and tv shows may also be re-downloadable (if they remain available in the store).

  • "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" when access from Video/Music

When I open "Video" or "Music" app and try to access iTunes Store from inside the app, the message "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" appears.  I have access to internet and still can download applications from app store.  Please help me fix this.  Thank you.

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Transfer itunes  and iphoto library from my imac to a macbook

    Hi
Hope I am on the right forum and to let you know I am not that bril' with computers but I have been using Macs since the 11Ci was the top of the range but here goes.
I use a G5 mac and I also use a macbook. Unfortunately something happened to the macbooks hard drive and it had to be replaced with a new one, which was covered under the Applecare protection plan. However, all the info that was stored on he macbooks hard drive was lost.
Is there anyway that I can attach the Macbook to the iMac and transfer transfer the information from one to another or do I have to have to start importing all the CD's again and also the photo which are also stored on disk.
I know that they are both wireless and should be able to talk to each other but the password for connecting the macbook to airport extreme system does not work and I need to talk to the telephone company on Monday for a new password as the password they previously supplied does not work.
Hope, that I have explained my problem and look forward for some help.
    Thanks
    James

It's a little unclear where your music and photo files were/are. If they were only on your MacBook disk then they're lost. If they were on both your computers then you can copy them from the iMac to the MacBook. The easiest way to do this is by booting the MacBook (for all but the latest model) into "target disk mode" by holding down the "t" key while booting. Then connect the two computers with a FireWire cable. The MacBook disk should mount on the iMac, which will allow you to copy files between them.
The phone company won't be able to help you with the password your computers use to connect to your AirPort Extreme. The only thing they can help you with is the password that the AirPort Extreme uses to connect to their network. You should be able to recover the AirPort Extreme password from the iMac with Keychain Utility and then use that password to connect your MacBook to the AirPort Extreme.

  • Help! How can I restore iTunes/iPhoto library from Time Capsule to new Mac?

Sorry to trouble you, because it looks like this should be an easy thing, but I can't find an answer anywhere...
I've got an 2008 MacBook Pro that suddenly began to suffer start up problems. Sometimes it boots to a black/grey screen and sometimes the screen/mouse freezes after only a few minutes of use.
I've borrowed my brother's Mac until I can find out how to get mine repaired, so I'd like to copy over my iTunes and iPhoto stuff from a Time Capsule (where I'm hoping it hasn't been damaged) to his Mac. I only want to copy the iTunes and iPhoto stuff, without filling up his computer with all my other junk.
Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks!

    Hi ...
I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.
    Hope this helps.
BTW - I found this out by reading the 'blue box' selection on this page: http://pondini.org/TM/E2.html
    (Thanks goes to Pondini!)

  • How can I move itunes/iphoto library from SSD to HD on my new imac?

I have a lovely new imac with the SSD option. My old comps' boot disk was migrated to the SSD because it is the boot disk for the new computer. This is great and speedy but now I'd like to move my huge itunes and iphoto libraries from the SSD to the 2TB HD. I would rather not move the whole 'home' folder. I would appreciate if anyone could tell me how to do this.
    with thanks in advance, nedro

Go to ~/Music/iTunes and drag & drop the iTunes Media folder to your HDD. It will not actually be moved, it will be copied. Depending on its size this can take a few minutes. When the copying is finished open iTunes and go to Preferences/Advanced. The first area is +iTunes Media folder location+. Click the Change button, browse to the location of your iTunes Media folder on the HDD and press Choose.
Quit iTunes. Then drag only the iTunes Media folder from the SSD to the Trash and empty. When you restart iTunes it will be using the media folder from it new location.
To move the iPhoto library, quit iPhoto. Got to ~/pictures and drag & drop the iPhoto Library to the HDD. It will be copied to the HDD. Drag the library on the SSD to the Trash and empty. Open iPhoto, follow the dialog in the window that appears to locate and choose your iPhoto Libray on the HDD.

  • D-Link iPhoto '11 videos from iMovie '11 - SLOW SLOW SLOW

    Hi there,
I have a slow workflow in iMovie at the moment. I have only 1 project (having cleaned out to isolate the issue). But many videos in iPhoto. That are not needed for iMovie. They're just clips from my phone. Is there a way that I can permanently d-link iPhoto videos from iMovies event library? Without moving the iPhoto library or iMovie projects and Events to another location? I want to use iPhoto in just the same way as I am, and iMovie too, but without the 2 slowing each other down!
I have rejected all of the clips. This has not worked. Moving rejected to trash doesn't seem to work either. Either does nothing or crashes.
This link discusses the issue in earlier versions. Have we a solution yet?
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=477746
If i absolutely need iMovie to run 'like a pro app', can I just temporarily rename the iPhoto library, and then run iMovie. Then revert when I have finished. Will this cause further problems?
I have trashed preferences and caches.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ben

I dont have an answer, but at least your not alone. I am having what sounds like the same exact problem. I have tried shifting more memory ect w/o success.
Please include me on any solutions.
