No Java Console after Solaris upgrade

Hi,
after upgrading from Solaris 8 to Solaris 9, the Java Console stopped functioning. It starts and authenticates successfully, but as it reaches the stage "Starting Console...", it stucks there.
Admin server is running, I have checked it by running Console from another host (Solaris 8).
After doing some truss'es, I found that everybody is waiting for "java" (/iplanet/servers/directory52/bin/base/jre/bin/java) to exit, but it doesn't wants to.
I'm running Console bundled with DS 5.2 via ssh X forwarding. The same configuration worked before Solaris upgrade.
If you have some thoughts, share it with me.
Thanks,
Kristof

  • Discoverer Plus -- Cannot Load Java Applet after JRE upgrade to 6

    Hi,
After our users upgrade Java Runtime Environment to version 6 Update 1, Discoverer Plus stops working, the applet is opened but does not load.
Uninstalling the update solves the problem.
I disabled the automatic upgrade of Sun JRE on a few machines, but we have over 100 users.
Did anyone else face the same issue and is there any patch for the Discoverer installation?
    Thanks,

    Hi George
You can get the 10.1.2.2 patch (4960210) on MetaLink. Be warned though that this not a small patch. It is 1.6 GB in size and is a full upgrade of the 10.1.2.0.2 application server.
I had some interesting problems when I first starting patching up to 10.1.2.2. First of all, if you are using a Windows server, you need to make sure that there are no lowercase characters used in your computer name. I know this sounds crazy but 10.1.2.2 will fail on Windows if you have this. If you've already got lowercase names in your machine you can't simply change the machine name to upper case because your existing application server will stop working as it embeds the machine name into dozens of configuration and setup locations. None of the Microsoft applications care what you call the machine as they don't embed like this but Oracle does. You'll probably end up having to reinstall the application server. However, the good news is that this only affects Windows and only when you have lowercase characters in your machine name.
Secondly, also on Windows, make sure there are no spaces anywhere within any of the folder names from where you will be installing the patch. This is another cause of failure. Thus, don't put the patch on your Desktop as there are spaces in Documents and Settings!
Thirdly, and this can happen on all platforms, if you are using an Infrastructure database and it is at 10.1.0.4 or less you will need to upgrade that database to 10.1.0.5 before you start any of the application server upgrades. If you don't do this your upgrade will fail. The release notes for the patch clearly state this but because they are very large I missed this the first time round and - oops - failed upgrade.
By the way, it seems Oracle have also released a patch (5758865) , available on MetaLink, with the fix for IE7. This is a one-off patch and requires a password which means you will have to raise a service request and tell Oracle you are having trouble drilling in Viewer when using IE7. This patch is applicable whether you are using relational or OLAP modeling. It can only be installed on top of 10.1.2.2.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Adding Management Console After Solaris 10 Install

What packages must be installed to add Sun Managment Console to a base Solaris 10?
I've added SUNWmccom (and the SUNWj3dev package it depends on); but, this does not install the Management Console's binary, /usr/sbin/smc.
    Thank you.

  • Hiding Java Console

I've written a java application that communicates with an XML server via TCP/IP. The Java application acts as a communications proxy for a user interface written in C++ and running on a Windows client.
I'd like to remove the user's ability to interfere with the Java application by pressing "CTRL-C" in the Java console generated when the Java application is launched.
Is there a way to hide the Java console after the Java application has been launched?

Try adding the start command to your batch file calling the server, and using javaw.exe (windowless) rather than java.exe.. so your command line looks something like this:
    start javaw.exe -cp myserver.jar MyServer

Upgraded to OES11 SP2 (on SLES11 SP3) and now when using the DNS/DHCP Java console (Win 64) we get the following error when attempting to edit or create a comment for a host: "This functionality is not supported in this version of OES DHCP Server"
Is it correct that we can not use the comments field any more? no note of that as a change in the docs...
    Thanks for any assistance.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem, but have to add: I think it's not just the comment field. Applying any changes after creating a record throws this error.

  • Problem with Java Script after upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI7

    Dear Colleagues,
We're facing the issue with Java Script after upgrade of BW 3.5 to BI7.
Just after update we checked the basic functionality and it occured that some of web templates that use Java Script don't work. They generate seelction screen, but after selection the screen becomes blank without any error messages.
We're currently stucked since web templates weren't converted to BI7 version so they should work exactly as before the upgrade.
We compared the Java code with other environment that was not upgraded - it's perfectly the same.
The only explanation that comes to my mind is that some Java Script settings on the server level were changed during the upgrade but I have no idea where I can check that.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
    Andrzej Bobula

    Hi Deepu,
Thanks, it was great to read your reply and then few minutes later talk to you live on SDN Day!
Unfortunately, http cache clean-up did not help. But there is another funny thing I found - for exactly the same 3.5 webtemplate html code returned from WebAS 3.5 was different then from 7.0.
Unfortunately, this editor does not allow to paste complete code, even in CODE brackets, but here are main differences:
    <b>3.5</b>
if (navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer")
    <frame src="/sap/bw/BEx?SAP-LANGUAGE=E&PAGENO=1&REQUEST_NO=1&CMD=GET_TEMPLATE"
    name="Content">
    and
    <b>7.0</b>
       if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Microsoft Internet Explorer")!=-1)
    <frame src="/sap/bw/BEx?SAP-LANGUAGE=E&PAGENO=8&REQUEST_NO=0&CMD=GET_TEMPLATE"
    name="Content" 0nLoad="javascript:loadTitle()">
(I intentionaly put 0 i/o o in 0nLoad, otherwise Forum's editor does not accept the text.
How about SAP's claim that technical upgrade from 3.x to 7.0 changes nothing?

  • I'm using Firefox Ver 3.6.10 with updated Java console ver 6.0.22. After the updating, firefox doesn't allow pop up window anymore. Please advise.

I also face this problem in previous Firefox version but after updated to newer release, the problem disappeared until new Java console updates again.
The Pop up does not come out at all.
I have tried restart Firefox but when restarting, a message pop up and tell me that another Firefox is running and after I check into my Task Manager, the Task Manager shows that there is another Firefox is still running.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

  • Solaris 10  x86 console screen resolution and blank console after exiting X

    Hello,
At some point my Solaris 10 machine stopped showing the console after leaving Xorg for the console login. I know the console is active because I can blindly pass the shutdown or other command and it will respond, or after waiting a few minutes will bring the GUI login back. I can see the console before the GUI login while booting but not after. I have a dual output Nvidia 6200 on a 22" LCD running Solaris 10 using the latest Nvidia drivers. I would also like to know if it possible to set the console screen resolution somehow either from the shell or from grub? I have been searching the internet for weeks about this and am unable to find a solution.
    TIA,
    Brett

After doing even more searching, it looks as if this is an issue with Nvidias drivers. At least similar issues on Linux and FreeBSD that I have seen. Anyone know of a fix other than reverting to much older drivers? Still cannot find any info on setting the console screen resolution, though I can't even see it at the moment unless I refrain from ever starting X again. There has to something similar to vga= that's used in Linux. Anyone?

  • Unable to access application set in admin console after upgrade to 7.0 M

    Hi Experts
I am unable to access the Application Set through BPC Administration after upgrading our development server to version 7.0 SP3. I followed the instructions as per the Upgrade guide, and there was no issues during the installation. But when trying to access the application set i receive the following error message on step 9  ( 9/10) of during the connection.
Error message: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not
    permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the
subquery is used as an expression.
I have done all of the steps outlined as per SAP Note 1242962, but i still receive the error message. I tried to do a SQL Profiler trace, but i have been unable to find the query which returns more than one record.
    Any help is appreciated
    Kind Regards
    Daniel

Interesting that you ask about upgrade vs uninstall/reinstall.
    We were running BPC 5.1
We have also re-installed the Admin client to be the new version.
We have been working with an outside consulting firm to manage our system upgrade/install.
Our dev and qa environments were uninstalled then reinstalled.
When we went to production, our system was intially upgraded.  I do not know why this route was chosen when that was not what was completed on dev/qa.  On our production 'upgrade', we are still working through issues. We then uninstalled iis, sqlserver reporting services, both .net 1.1 and 2.0, and the BPC application. Then reinstall everything and we were getting the same errors.
Our error was at Progress 10/10 Create Database Schema and check Application server collation.
Error Message: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.
We are able to access the appShell and test copies of the appShell, we were not able to access any custom appSets which were created prior to the upgrade, nor are we able to access any appSets that were created as a copy of the custom appSet after the upgrade.
When logged with SAP, we were directed toward note Note 1331040 - Cannot log into 7M Admin console after restore from version5 noting that we needed to do the following changes:
Note that you will need to change the following:
    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES ('_GLOBAL','Prev_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.112')
    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES ('_GLOBAL','Curr_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.112')
    to
    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES ('_GLOBAL','Prev_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.113')
    INSERT INTO tblDefaults VALUES ('_GLOBAL','Curr_AppSet_Version','','','7.0.113')
The reason is because '7.0.113' means 7 MS SP04 while '7.0.112' means SP03.
There are 8 steps in this note, for us, only the first 2 were needed. I have asked SAP to create new note/update existing accordingly.
With the table entry, we were able to successfully access our app set.
Hope our experiences can help you out.
    Thanks,
    Becky Zick

  • Java.io.StreamCorruptedException after rolling upgrade

    Hi,
After removing a first class citizen Class file A in Version2 and performing a rolling upgrade from Version1 to Version2 of our software we find an entry for Class A in replicated cache of Version2. Once we try to read / remove / or overwrite it with null we get a "java.io.StreamCorruptedException".
Is there a way to get rid of these kind of entries in the cache after rolling upgrade is performed or even prevent Class A to be added into the cache during de-serialization?
    Thanks

I'm not quite sure what you mean yet. Are you talking about the server code or the client code? And, can you be a little more specific on where the problem is? I'm sorry, it's just that I've spent quite a while on the code and I haven't found the problem yet. Thanks again.

  • Want to hide Java Console Window when launching apps on Solaris 9.

    Hi,
I am working in a Solaris environment with Solaris 9.
When I launch any of my applications, the java console window appears.
I want to hide this window.
The java version that I am using is JDK 1.3.1_01.
I found this link that shows you how to configure your java settings to hide the console window.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html
    1. I placed the deployment.config file in the appropriate directory:
${deployment.java.home}/lib/deployment.config     (${deployment.java.home} is the location of the jre from which the deployment products are run.
Deployment products include Java Web Start, Java Plug-in, Java Control Panel...)
In this file I have the following:
         deployment.system.config=/.java/.deployment/deployment.properties
         deployment.system.config.mandatory=false
deployment.console.startup.mode=HIDE 2. The /.java/.deployment/deployment.properties file is not created by default.
So I created it but still the java console window appeared.
The above configuration is the system level settings taken from the webpage I specified above.
I have also tried the user level settings but to no avail.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
    Rgds,
    Adrian.

    Hi all,
Thanks Jacky, the Control Panel is the best way to hide the console window.
I have achieved this when using java 1.4.2.
But when using java 1.3.1_09, the control panel does not give me the option to "Hide console" or "Do not start console as is the case when using java 1.4.2.
What it goes give is Show Java Console checkbox which I have unchecked and minimises the console on the desktop as a result.
Perhaps the functionality to hide (ie: not display) the console window is not available in the java 1.3.1_09 version?

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.
