No jpg option?

I'm trying to save a .png image as a jpg, which I've done many times before, but suddenly jpg is not an option under "save as". This is the case in both my PSE 5 & PSE 9 versions. What's up?
Thnx
Tom

It's like the second one--Bitmap & Grayscale are active; bitmap is checked. The other options are gray, unavailable.

Subject: No jpg option?
With your document (png) open, what do you see under Image>Mode?
Anything like the screenshots below?

  • Tif to Jpg-No Jpg option?

    I have an edited Tif file I'm trying to save to a jpg file. There is no jpg option in the "save as" dialog box.
    Anyone know why?
    Jack

    Good enough that it's highly likely that the video compression is much more of a driving factor.

  • No JPG option When saving from Previewer?

    I liked the jpg option when saving a screencapture in Tiger. Why was that jpg option removed in Lion?
    Now if you want to save a png image as a jpg you need to buy software to do that.
    Am I missing something?
    Thank you.

    Export in .jpeg -- it's the same as .jpg -- an explaination for why it has a different extension but is the same thing can be found at the link below.

  • Close ALL open files and save jpg with jpg option

    Hi,
    I have some (a lot) of -jpg images to crop, and resize, while I have to do this one by one based on what portion of the image to crop, once done I need to close, and save them.
    To speed up the process I open several files, and do the crop&resize, and when finished I use "close all", and would like to avoid to confirm the "save" dialogue, and the "jpeg options" "image quality option" dialogue, having to say save, and the option set to a given value.
    Unfortunatelly I am not a coder, and didn't understand anything from the Javascript Scripting Reference guide.
    I found this
    app.docRef.close(SaveOptions.SAVECHANGES);
    here, I pasted it into ExtendScript, saved it, but when opening the script from file > scripts > browse it returns error 21 (undefined is not an object)
    Will you please kindly give me the script?
    Thank you

    Add this snippet to a script file.
    Load script file in PS scripts folder
    Restart photoshop
    Assign keyboard shortcut to script
    #target photoshop
    //Make Photoshop the formost Appplication
    app.bringToFront();
    // Requires at least one open document
    while (app.documents.length > 0)
         //Save all open windows
        {activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.SAVECHANGES);}

    Glad to help, though of course there aren't many 18 bit images out there: sweet 16!

    As an OT aside, I've never understood why PS doesn't automatically down-bit to 8  when you do a Save As to JPEG from a TIFF or PSD.
    I believe it is possible to have a 16 bit JPEG if you use the JPEG
    2000 specification. The original JPEG format that everything supports
    is 8 bit.

  • Photoshop writes a Corrupt JPG in Windows Vista

    Hello
    A very perplexing problem i have run into.
    I have created a panorama with CS5 (running Windows Vista).  This is from a number of RAW images that were stitched together using PS.  I flattened the image and saved it to a jpg format.  This jpg image can be read by Windows Photo Gallery application
    i want to create a larger image (72" long) to print out.  I went back to the PSD file and increased the image size in increments of 10% from ~49 in to 72 in long.  i then saved this image in jpg format (same jpg options).  This image comes back as corrupt when i try to view it in Vista (Windows Photo Gallery).
    Photoshop can open the jpg image.
    ultimately, i need to send this image to get printed out but i am worried that it is corrupt.   I have tried 3 different Windows Vista computers (laptops to desktops) and the corrupt message is the same
    "Photo Gallery can't open this picture or video.  This file format is not supported, ..."
    i have also tried to open this with Microsoft Paint and it does not work.
    Thank you
    Perry Ralph

    Hello
    Thanks for the message
    What are the pixel dimensions of the JPG you're producing that can't be opened?  Saying it is 72" long isn't enough without also telling the DPI/PPI.  Also, another way to increase the print size of the image would be to merely change the DPI/PPI to something smaller.
    21600 pixels x 5132 pixels
    300 PPI
    I suspect the Windows programs you refer to are running out of memory trying to open the image or they may have pixel-dimension limits.  Photoshop has tricks to working on large images that the simple Windows programs do not use.
    you might be right.  my desktop PC has 8GM of memory
    Are you working with an external printing service that cannot upsize an image in a way that looks reasonable and they require that you do it for them?
    I haven't asked the printing service about upsizing the image.  i wanted to look at the size first.  i have also sent them an email message asking a similar question

  • [Locked: repeating post bug] Can't save jpg due to program error

    Saw some answers in a post I now can't locate...
    I can save a psd to tiff, but can save nothing to jpg, which gives the message above. It's very annoying. I run Cocktail and Diskwarrior fairly regularly, which usually sorts things like this out, but not this time. I even did a clean install, but the problem isn't fixed. A work-round is to open the tiff in Preview and resave as a jpg, but that's not ideal.
    Does anyone know the precise reason for this glitch (I'm fairly sure it's Mac system and not PS)?

    document must be  RGB 8bit and you will be able to see option . Jpg  option will show up .
    File->save as
    choose :
    jpg-> window will open when clik save and then you will see 3 options to choose. baseline , optimize, progressive.
    on my settings optimize is default and instead optimize i choose baseline .
    It does work for me. try that.

  • RAW file into jpg image

    I am exploring the wonderful world of RAW photography processing. I have come across an issue that I cannot find an answer to. After doing all the image adjustments, how do I save it as a jpg file? The only option I see is to save it as a dng file or to open it in PSE10 editor. But then what? I have tried to "safe as" from Editor but it does not give me a jpg option.

    Thanks to each of you for your comments.
    juergen, I had noticed that setting but did not know I needed to change it. Thanks.
    photodrawken, I need jpg because I am a member of several sites that specifically call for jpg images. I also share my pictures with extended family who cannot use RAW or PSE files. They could use png files but they would face the same issue when they go to upload them. They do not have software to change them to jpg.
    dj, I have enough memory (for now at least) that I can save both. I will not be changing all of them but when I need, it is good to know how to do it.
    Again, thank you,
    Jim

  • Save .eps to .jpg format

  • Editing .tif file in Photoshop, then can't save as .jpg

    A problem I've never encountered before. I have a few pictures that were scanned as .tif files. When I import them into Photoshop and work its magic, then save as a .psd file I can then not save the file as a regular .jpg. The jpg option does not appear under Save As. For the record I'm using PS 4 with Windows 7 (64). To the best of my recollection I've never had this problem before. Help.

    Thanks. As it turns out in a fit of unexpected insight I just had figured that out. I know my way around PS pretty well, and hadn't thought of that. I appreciate your responses.

  • Camera RAW JPG 'Save image....' dialogue reversal?

    In camera RAW, to save a JPG you click on the 'Save image...' dialogue and another window opens with the JPG options.
    To skip this window and directly save the image, you hold down the ALT key and click on the 'Save image'.
    Is it possible to reverse these settings, so that if you want the JPG dialogue to open you have to hold down the ALT key and to save without the dialogue, you just click on the save button?

    Thank you, Mr. Spock!
    Very true. it would be counterintutive.
    But my left hand is stiff from holding the ALT key!
    Is it possible to redefine the keys in camera RAW?

  • White frame in JPG export

    If I choose at AI, the export, to jpg option, and tick the use artboards option, the exported jpg will get a rather thick white frame.
    The document has no stroke, if i export without the use artboard option there is no problem.... any suggestion?

    What are the contents of your artwork? Is there a background with stroke applied? Please explain a bit more about the artwork so that I can suggest something.

  • Fit Image action stops on some jpgs

    I need to batch thousand of images w different file size dimensions & formats (.eps, .tif, .jpg) to have a print dimension 3"x2" @ 300 dpi (900x600 pixels). Fit Image seems to be the "perfect" feature for this task as long the image starting resolution is 300 dpi.  If the image starting resolution is 72 dpi I have to uncheck "resample image"  change document dimensions to 3"x2", check "resample image" & then change the resolution to 300 dpi to meet our print requirements.
    From Bridge CS5 I select the images that have resolution of 300 dpi> Tools> Photoshop> Batch> I select the action Fit Image.  The problem I'm having is w the jpgs. Sometimes I get the JPG options window. (See attached) which stops the batch to keep processing images until I select OK. I noticed this doesn't happen w every jpg. Is there any way to automate this task without getting any windows?
    I have learned a lot reading posts related to the Fit Image feature. I want to thank all the Photoshop gurus out there.
    PS.: I tried Image Processor... but I think Fit Image work better for my purposes. I'm using PS CS5

    Thank You c.pfaffenbichler for your quick response.
    I was searching for Fit Image in the forums & spent a good amount of time yesterday trying to find answer.  I guess I have to keep looking why I'm still getting the JPG options window.
    c.pfaffenbichler wrote:
    I think there have been previous threads about this, but you’d have to check them out to see if a workable solution was offered.
    Re-saving jpgs seems less than adviseable to me in any case.
    And I wonder why you find Fit Image more convenient than Image Processor in this case?
    In Bridge I select all the images that are 300 ppi including jpg, eps & tiff files. If the original file is a jpg  using Image Processor was Ok but when I'm processing eps & tif converting those files to jpg using Image Processor I noticed that the picture quality changed (blur)  & I have to sharpen the pictures.
    I would like to hear your opinion about Image Processor & why do you think is a better approach than Fit Image action
