No keyboard shortcuts in InDesign CS4

the keyboard shortcuts doesn't shown in any menu.
the "edit>keyboard shortcuts" has no available set, or even not creating new set.
in othyer apps (PS, Illustaror, flash) it's fine.
they are not working obviously, it's not only visual matter.
does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It sounds like the reinstall is also damaged.
I'd try again after running the cleaner tool: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3
Make sure you are logged in with an adminsitrator account, and turn off you Anti-virus and Malware scanners. You may even want to go as far as a "clean boot" for the installation. See How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Keyboard Shortcuts crashes inDesign cs5

Everytime I go to edit> keyboard shortcuts on indesign cs5, my cursor starts spinning...and spinning... and spinning....never stops and I just have to kill it through task manager!
Anyone know how to fix this??

That sounds like a conflict of some sort with a plugin or other software running on all the computers. Mac or PC? Any non-Adobe plugins, including a font auto-activation plugin from a font manager?

How I fixed the missing shortcuts in InDesign CS4

Today, I got hit by the 'missing shortcut' syndrome on my Windows install of InDesign CS4 - all menu items were totally void of any shortcut. Even cut, copy, paste had no more shortcut keys - Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V didn't do a thing.
I tried fixing it via the Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts... menu, but there I could not even see a set name, and there was nothing I could do.
Ok, tried resetting the preferences - no joy.
Ok, tried wiping the 'Version 6.0' folders from the hidden folders where preferences were stored - no joy.
I got out some diagnostic tools, and noticed InDesign was trying (and failing) to access a folder called
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Shortcut Sets\en_US
I checked it out - I did not have a folder called en_US in
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Shortcut Sets
but I did have a folder called en_GB
Hmmm....
I opened an Explorer window into the InDesign Shortcut Sets folder, and I made a copy of the folder en_GB and renamed it to en_US.
Relaunch InDesign and bingo - all is well!
Looks like InDesign is getting confused between British and US English - probably it got installed as British English, then decided it rather be US English. Why that'd be - no idea.
So, here's what you can try if your shortcut keys suddenly disappear on you:
1) Navigate to the Adobe InDesign CS4 folder
2) Go into the Presets folder
3) Go into the InDesign Shortcut Sets folder
4) If you see a folder called 'en_GB', but no folder called 'en_US', make a copy of the en_GB and rename the copy to en_US. Possibly the reverse could also happen - you see en_US, you might want to try and copy it to en_GB.

I had all the Symptoms you list and Kris's solution sorted them out. (It's well worth keeping a backup of those folders.)
However, I found I still had problems that may or may not be related (sorry if this is off topic). Most notably "Registration…", "Deactivate…" and "Updates…" buttons greyed out in InDesign, Photoshop etc. and from Task Manager I noticed that the processes would not stop when you quit these programs. Also Distiller refused to start.
After wasting further time I made a few complaints and was finally allocated a tech person in Adobe support who was actually very helpful. By remote control he deleted the hidden file adobe_00080000_tsf data from the hidden folder C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet. We then started InDesign and I had to enter my Serial No. and register again.
This pretty well fixed the other problems above for a day or two then I started getting "Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files." This was fixed by another helpful tech person in Adobe support who, by remote control had a poke around in the <C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe \Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\AMT> folder and surprisingly everything started to work properly again. I don't think he even moved or deleted anything but the whole suite has been trouble free for over a week now.

I have migrated my keyboard settings from PPro2 to CS4 and CS5.
From PPro 2 (XP) to CS4/5 (Win 7 64)
copy file:
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0\*yourprefs.kys*
to:
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\*yourprefs.kys*
or
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\*yourprefs.kys*
Run Premiere, select: Edit/Keyboard Customization/ and your key settings
should appear in the Set: dropdown menu.
I have not found a way to migrate layout settings.

How do I change the quit indesign keyboard shortcut? (indesign CC, mac)

Now this seems like it should be a simple task, right? Head up to the edit menu and click on keyboard shortcuts, find the quit app shortcut and change it to what I need. Why bother changing it you ask? Well for some reason out of the blue, my indesign quits everytime I try to select all (cmd+a) and completely ignores the usual cmd+q shortcut despite it saying in the top menu that that is what the shortcut is set to. So after quitting indesign several times thinking it was crashing I then realised I was closing the app myself but through a keyboard shortcut that I never set up so I need to change it back. But here's the thing, I cant find the quit indesign shortcut setting anywhere in indesign CC. As it was no where to be found I thought perhaps I could rectify this by restoring my inDesign default settings... Nope, no good. So I need some help.

I've never even heard of a problem like this.
The only thing I can think of is that the current shortcut that closes indesign for you is somehow set in the System Preferences for closing a program.
But I don't know why "Exit" isn't in your Keyboard Shortcut sets?

Keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CS4

I have tried to customise keyboard shortcuts in CS4 but each time I quit I lose all settings. (they work fine til I quit). I have saved new sets, overwritted previous sets but they dont seem to save. What am I doing wrong.
Otherwise, speaking as a recent convert from Freehand, CS4 is wonderful now multiple pages have been added

We are experiencing the same problem in Illustrator CS4. We have saved a custom keyboard shortcut set only to have some of the shortcuts revert back when Illustrator is restarted. We have cleared the shortcut for "Reselect" and assigned command-6 to "Select Same Fill". The shortcut works fine until we quit Illustrator the the shortcut reverts back to "Reselect".

How to backup shortcuts in InDesign CS4?

Hello, I'm going to install CS4 in a new computer and I want to backup and copy my shortcuts as well. Is that possible?

On a Mac, all the CS4 prefs are in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 6.0 folder.
I believe that Shortcuts are all in the subfolder "InDesign Shortcut Sets" inside your language folder (eg en_US) for US English prefs).

Indesign CS4 OSX crash, usually when opening

Well, this one is weird. If there wans't any narrative, I would have thought that the eyedropper tool was being clicked (LButtonUp in frame 14) and then it was failing somehow related to reading/writing attributes from the eyedropper.
It doesn't sound like that's what you're doing.
CS4 is getting kind of old, you might think about upgrading. Or at least trying with the free trial to see if CS5.5 works better for you?

How to change keyboard shortcuts

can anyone help me to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS4. When I create a new set in Edit Menu Keybord shortcuts and try to change Cmd+H to hide frame edges instead of hide indesign its not happening. can anyone tell me what is correct way to change the shortcut.

What's the default for hide edges on Mac? It's Ctrl + H which would in most circumstances lead me to think that it would be Cmd + H on Mac, but I think you are running into a problem with the OS using that key combo and intercepting the keystrokes.
Edit: that should have been Ctrl + H on Windows.

Keyboard shortcuts in CS4 won't work! Please help!

In the last month I have lost all of my keyboard shortcuts in my CS4 program. I was using Windows Vista Professional - and installed CS4 in August. Everything was working great. Then last month, all of the shortcuts disappeared. I uninstalled/then reinstalled CS4 - still nothing. Have done that several times, and looked on the forums for similar issues, in the Technotes - nothing. Yesterday my office upgraded my system to Windows 7. I am on a new HP Elitebook - also purchased in August, so my system can handle the program with ease.
Anyway, I had the IT guy do a 'clean install' per most of the chatter online, so i went to install the program and the install came up with 'errors' first was that Adobe 9 was not installed, nor was Photoshop. When i opened up illustrator - poof - no keyboard shortcuts again. Please if anyone knows of something that I could try, I would really appreciate it. This is seriously making me behind in projects and am ready to throw my new computer out the gigantic window that is in front of my desk.
Oh, since this - I updated my graphics driver (per suggestion for Photoshop), unistalled CS4 - AGAIN - and am in the process of reinstalling. But I am pretty sure that the shortcuts will be missing.

CS4 Reset View Keyboard Shortcut (ESC key) Not Working

Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this:
Every keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 works fine for me except one: the keyboard shortcut to reset view after using view rotation (the ESC key). Oddly, the keyboard shortcut does work in CS5 (I installed the demo). I've checked to ensure my keyboard is set to US English, which it is. I've tried resetting the Photoshop settings, and even reinstalling. Nothing. This particular keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to be one that can be changed through the keyboard shortcuts menu, and I have never customized the keyboard shortcuts anyway.
Some more information about my setup -- I'm using an Intuos 4 tablet, and do use the wheel to rotate the view. However, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work when I use the tool with my mouse or the wheel on my tablet, so it seems unlikely this is the issue. Regarding my hardware acceleration, I have a current gen nVidia card with plenty of horsepower, and all other OpenGL enhancements work fine.

Have you ensured that Captivate has been updated with all service releases?
I could be wrong but I seem to recall a service release fixed this issue.

Keyboard shortcuts vs icons

Although having worked with Adobe Pagemaker for many if the years it was around and viable-I was delighted when they introduced a quasi windows type toolbar.    There are still certain keystroke shortcuts that come easy to me having worked with Windows based Corel Draw and all the standards for many years.
Becoming a MAC enthusiast for a bit more than 2 years now and more so CS4 (altho I was up tp CS2 on Windows) I miss a lot of the Toolbox icons.
Adobe 3-finger type shortcuts are not my favorite.
So the question is: Is there a CS4 (particularly for InD) that gives me icons for commands such as SAVE, SAVE AS, PRINT-?ok Command S and P are no big deal nor are the standards for Copy, paste etc-but if there is a ToolBar or command icons that I have not yet found can someone advise?    Also is there a way to program my mouse so when a misspelled word shows up underlined a left mouse click will bring up a suggestion list. When I rt click I get: Insert Link, Insert image, Alignment, Insert Tablet.
Thanks next project is to go thru TUTORIAL-just haven't had the time yet-All of you are terrific for doing what you do.

You can customize existing, and define your own keyboard shortcuts under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
InDesign's Quick Apply feature (Edit > Quick Apply) opens a typing-sensitive shortcut list, so you can type a bit of a command name and press Enter or arrow a bit and then press Enter, to execute the command. See: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/503506
