No LAN access on Touchsmart PCIQ772.uk via Wireless or Ethernet or USB Adaptor

Hi, I'm helping a customer whose internet access suddenly stopped on June 2nd.  My confidence in being able to repair it dwindled after I eliminated all the ususal suspects, so I wonder if someone could help please?
1. the PC runs Windows Vista SP1 and doesn't seem to have updated itself since Dec 2010
2. it runs Norton 360
3. Network connections shows the "Local Area Network"as:  Enabled (ie not "Connected")
  - Network connections shows the "Wireless Network Connection" as Not connected
Network connections shows the a known good USB wireless adaptor as Not Connected
3b. the PC is unabvle to even list any networks in the area (there are at least six)
4. I have used Device Manager to uninstall the network adaptors then Scan For Changes & Reinstall etc - made no difference
5. I've swapped routers just to be sure, and they fine with a handful of other PCs and laptops.
6. no System Restore points exist on the PC (the customer doesn't know why)
6. I've considered a Factory Restore but read somewhere that even that didn't help.
Can anyone suggest what else could be tried?
Thanks in advance,
J

Hi,
Since my last post, I decided to uninstall Norton 360 and Norton Utilities which came a part of the bundle, but no difference.
I also decided to install Vista SP2 as I know it made lots of improvements, some relating to the new Security Centre, but that also made no difference.
So, thanks for your suggestion re Flushing DNS and resetting Winsock; I'll do those next - after I work out how to reset Winsock.
PS - I also did full (slow) system scans with Norton 360 and MBAM, but the system was clean other than 3-4 PUPs, and the SFC /SCANNOW found no problems with protected system files.
I'll keep you posted on how the DNS and Winsock resets go.
Ta again,
J

Did you try to flush DNS & reset winsock? You may also uninstall Norton completely & check if you can connect. Also, try if it works in Safe Mode with Networking.
Thanks!

  • Bridge to bridge and bridge to access-point via wireless is it possible.

here;s my topology i am trying to configure. i have a router whose ethernet is connected to a bridge.this bridge 1 is connected to a bridge 2 via wireless. now i am trying to connect a access-point via wireless to this bridge2. is it possible for bridge 2 to support connectivity to the bridge1 and the access-point both of them via wireless.
can someone pls help me on this.
    waiting for someone to reply.
    regards
    sebastan

You can set up each radio in the access point for different functionality. Considering the scenario, this can be done by setting up the SSID for the G radio and another SSID for the A radio. Then, set the role in the radio network parameter for the G radio to access point and for the A radio to the root bridge role.
ou can prevent unauthorized users from reconfiguring your access point/bridge and viewing configuration information. Typically, you want network administrators to have access to the access point/bridge while you restrict access to users who connect through a terminal or workstation from within the local network.
To prevent unauthorized access to your access point/bridge, you should configure one of these security features:
Username and password pairs, which are locally stored on the access point/bridge. These pairs authenticate each user before that user can access the access point/bridge. You can also assign a specific privilege level (read only or read/write) to each username and password pair.

  • I have two Buildings i need to connect via wireless

I have one Building with The Main Internet Connection. It has  1- wireless-G access point (wap54g v3) and 1-wireless-B ethernet bridge (wet11 v2)
The other Structure i cant run wire  cause of a water hazzard between the buildings. Building two has 1- Wireless-N Broadband Router(wrt300n)
With These 3 Products what can i do using what i have to connect,   connect building 1 to building 2 via wireless?  Or am i in need of another wireless router of sorts?
help and documentation would help.  I just was dropped into this and had a day or two to fingure a solution out.
    Thank you

The Computers which are connected to WRT300N on Building Two are they able to go online throught the Router? Then i would suggest you to get an Ethernet Bridge, As your ethernet bridge is older B series and it wont communicate with your Router properly, Either you can Get a G Series or N Series Ethernet Bridge ( WET54G , WET600N).
On Building 1 you need to input the wireless settings as you have set on your WRT300N Router. Once  you configure all the settings on your Bridge, then you can connect the Bridge to an switch and then connect your Access Point to the Swtich and configure all the settings on your WAP54G. And this will let all your computers go online Wirelessly and Wired as well.

  • Open BO report via wireless connection Blackberry

    Dear All,
does anyone knows about how to open BO report in BB via wireless connection. is it need installed BO Mobile XI? or what is the best way to open BO report with Blackberry.
    Please Help.
    Thnaks so much

You know that is weird.... when the AppleTV is wireless and the Mac Book is wireless then iTunes can see it! So I guess it must be how the router is treating the two (wired and wireless) as two separate networks some how.
I will go with this as for some strange reason accessing iTunes Store is faster via wireless on the AppleTV than it was when wired.
Still would like to know why it is doing that... something to research.
Oh and the router is a DLink DVA-G3810BN
    Cheers,

  • Transparent Tunneling and Local Lan Access via VPN Client

Remote users using Cisco VPN 4.2 connect successfully to a Cisco Pix 515 (ver. 6.3). The client is configured to allow Transparent Tunneling and Local Lan access, but once connected to the Pix, these two options are disabled. What configuration changes are required on the Pix to enable these options? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Mike Bowyer

    Hi Mike,
"Transparent Tunneling" and "Local Lan Access" are two different things. "Transparent Tunneling" is dealing with establishing an IPSec Tunnel even if a NAT device is between your client and the VPN-Headend-Device. "Local LAN Access" is dealing with access to devices in the LAN your VPN-Client-Device is connected to.
What do you mean exactly with "disabled once the connection is made" ?
You can check the local LAN Access by having a look at the Route-Table of the VPN-Client:
Right Click the yellow VPN-lock Icon in System-Tray while the VPN-Connection is active and select "Statistics ...". Have a look at the second register page "route details".
Are any local LAN routes displayed when your are connected ?
And - always remember two important restrictions the Online Help of the VPN-Client is mentioning:
1: This feature works only on one NIC card, the same NIC card as the tunnel.
2: While connected, you cannot print or browse the local LAN by name; when disconnected, you can print and browse by name.
    Carsten
PS: Removing Split Tunnel won't enable local LAN access as all traffic would be sent into the IPSec tunnel.

  • Can't load webpages via wireless lan

    Hi Guys,
Got a bit of a problem and was looking for some suggestions.
I've been using my 24" iMac via wireless (802.11g) for internet access for about the last year without any problems, but this week its giving me lot's of trouble.
    Here's the situation:
    - Connecting to a Netgear wireless router/adsl2+ modem.
    - I can connect to the WLAN ok but when I try to load a website in either Safari or Firefox, it looks like it is going to load but just stops and sits there indefinitely.
    - If I plug in a LAN cable it all works perfectly.
    - I can connect using my Vista laptop and it works fine.
    - I thought it might be a DNS issue, but I can open Terminal and ping websites successfully. I can also ftp to a few sites using the command line.
    - I've obviously tried rebooting the computer, router etc. I also tried disabling MAC address filtering and WPA.
So I'm kind of at a loss at the moment. I haven't installed or changed anything because I used it to browse the web a few days ago and didn't use it until this morning when I found this problem.
I haven't had much time to try anything else so I'll be troubleshooting more when I get home. Just wondered if anyone had some things I can try.
    Thanks heaps for you help.
    Cheers

Don't worry I figured it out. I seem to have jumped the gun in thinking that it was working via ethernet cable and not with the wireless because neither were working. I thought the ethernet was working but it had just cached google and a few other sites I think.
Ended up factory resetting the router and all is well.
    Thanks for looking.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 VPN help for local lan access.

    Hi all,
I am very new to Cisco systems. Recently I was tasked to enable local lan access for one of my server. The problem is this. I have this server with 2 interfaces. One interface to my FTP server(192.168.2.3) and the other to the Cisco ASA(192.168.1.1). Whenever I connect the server to Cisco Anyconnect VPN, I am unable to access the FTP server anymore.
I googled and found out that the problem is because the metric level is 1 for Ciscoanyconnect network interface which causes all traffic to go through the Cisco VPN Interface. Another problem is I can't change the metric of the Cisco VPN Interface as whenever I reconnect to the VPN, the metric resets back to 1 again. I tried to follow some guides to configure split tunnel but my traffic is still going through the VPN connection.
Anyone can tell me what I am missing here? Sorry I am very new to Cisco systems. Spent about 5 days troubleshooting and I feel I am getting it soon. Anyone can guide me what else I am supposed to do?
What I did> Configuration>> Remote access VPN>> Network Client Access>> Group Policies>> Advanced>> Split Tunneling>> Uncheck Inherit and select "Exclude Network List below.>> Uncheck Network List and select Manage, Add 192.168.2.0/24 to permit.
Really appreciate if anyone can tell me what else I can do to ensure my server has access the my FTP Server after connecting to the VPN.
    Thanks all!
    Wen Qi

    Hi,
    Try adding the following configuration
    policy-map global_policy
    class inspection_default
      inspect pptp
    And then try again.
I'm not 100% would you need to perhaps allow GRE through the firewall even after that. (Protocol 47)

  • Unable to access a windows 7 Workstation via RDP

    Hi,
I have a windows 7 Pro SP1 workstation that I’m unable to access from any other machine via RDP...
    This is a domain environment.
The machine in question is 100% up to date. (WSUS)
It's running an up-to-date anti-virus solution and has been scanned. (Panda cloud) (No firewall)
This is on a local network, no router involved.
Can ping the machine, can see network shares.
Checked that it's listening on the correct port.
Necessary services are running and are starting correctly.
Configured RDP correctly and tried different configurations (with and without NLA and adding/removing users)
This machine seems to be able to RDP into other machines, it just wont accept any sessions.
Assigning the necessary exclusions in firewall - no effect
Firewall is disabled by GPO and I have stopped the service - no effect.
Deleted the computer certificate - no effect.
uninstalled the RDP 8 update - no effect
Tried using both the IP and hostname - no difference
I'm completely out of ideas, no other machine I tested with is having this issue and all the domain machines are running same AV and same GPO's are applied.
    Re-installation is not an option.
Below is the error - very unhelpful.
    Kind Regards,
    Stephen

  • Accessing iphoto library on external drive via wireless

I'm running out of room on my macbook so I moved my iphoto library to an external drive (after reading other posts on how to accomplish this, copied to the external drive and connected without a problem). However, i'm accessing the external drive wirelessly from my airport extreme and now iphoto is painfully slow - it takes several seconds for each photo to resolve properly. Any suggestions for the best way to manage? Do i need to keep older photos in a library on the external drive and a library for more current ones i want to access regularly on my local? I don't think i want to have multiple libraries but the performance this way is driving me crazy.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
A wired connection is the best way to have your Library on an external.

  • 4404 wireless lan controller managment via wireless clients

I am having an issue managing a 4404 wireless lan controller via wireless clients.
I have checked the box "enable controller management to be accessible from wireless clients" under management. For some reason that does not seem to fix the problem (page cannot be displayed). I cannot ping the controller by IP but other devices on the same subnet respond. Everything else works fine.
I CAN manage the controller when plugged in a wired connection.
When I do a route print it is identical wireless or wired. The route simple points to my interface. If I modify the route on my computer to actually point to our gateway instead of the interface then everything works. But why should I have to do this only for my wireless connection and not my wired to manage this box?

Thanks for the info. I narrowed the problem down to an ARP issue.
In order for me to connect to the controller, I run a batch file that creates a static ARP entry on my laptop. I don't have to do this for any other device except the controller. Not sure what the underlying cause is, but that works as a workaround right now.

  • Poor performance when accessing a MSAS 2008 cube via BI Server

I am having an issue with performance when accessing a MSAS 2008 cube via the BI Server.
I think it has to do with the way that the MDX is being generated.
Please could someone advise on any settings I could try or any known issues with the integration?
    Thanks,

    Hi Kim,
Sorry I can't help out, but, I'm curious how you got the AS 2008 drivers installed for use with OBIEE? I have an AS2008 environment, but, my OBIEE version only supports 2000 and 2005.
    Thanks,

The path to setting is <i>Preferences > SAP J2EE Engine</i>
For example can we enter something like:
    H/<localsaprouter>/H/<our saprouter>/H/<EP6 ip address>

    Hi,
As for as I know ,
We need SAPlogon (higher vertion preferable but not necesary) for such knid of connection. for the saplogon connection you need application server name, system ID and username and password as described below
You also need some sort of VPN conection.
Following are the inputs required for creating Connection from SAP Logon Pad.
    1. Application Server = IP Address or Host Name of SAP Server you want to connect.
    2. SAP Router String = If you are connecting via Firewall accross VPN.
    3. System ID = <SID> ex., DEV, PRD...
    4. System Number = <00> ex., 00, 01 ..99
    5. Select radio Button R/3
    6. Give some description under that field.
Before doing the above please try to PING the Server at Location A from your machine(should be replying).
I don't think NWDS have this facility of using sap router remote r/3.
let me know whther this helps. also reward if so.

  • Accessing a JD Edwards database via PHP

    Hi,
Would anyone be able to tell me if it is possible to access a JD Edwards installation via PHP? Our web interface requires JD Edwards integration. If this is possible, where would I find documentation about this?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

We used IBM DB2Connect software which allows you to use AS400/iSeries native commands. The web developer handled the setup on the application server so I don't have any details on the setup, but your IBM representative should be able to help you or get you in touch with someone who can help you.

  • Can't access IBM mainframe 3270 session via SSL self-signed cert.

Can't access IBM mainframe 3270 session via SSL self-signed cert since sometime last week. Using Mochasoft tn3270 lite on android works fine but iPad ios7 says "IBM mainframe has closed the session".  Any clues would be appreciated.

I'm thinking the problem may be the IBM cert is 1024 bit. Investigating choices to implement 2048 bit cert into IBM.
