NO Lenovo Windows 8.1 Recovery DVD for CLEAN INSTALL! + unable to Install UEFI MODE

Hi,
I Just bought 25 Thinkpad T431s Laptops for my company (@ISRAEL)
All of them came with windows 7SP1 Installed And Recovery is Windows 8 (not 8.1 even though 8.1 is out for a yr!)
The Install process takes 3 Hours!!! Just for upgrading to windows 8.
Then I need to upgrade to 8.1 - the process is about 3 hours more! Because I need to Register And create Microsoft account for each user then to verify the account.
After that I need to Log with the account to the PC And then Download the update (3.5GB) And Install it.
IS ANYONE AT LENOVO THINKS THAT ITS ACCEPTABLE?
DO I WORK FOR LENOVO? DO I NEED TO SPEND 6 HOURS FOR UPGRADING EACH LAPTOP?
Don't forget that after that I need to uninstall all the bloater from the PC. Like Symantec AV (Because Enterprise company's uses Enterprise Class AV, FW And other software. We uses Kaspersky Enterprise, ESET, And others...)
AND ABOVE ALL.
If I want to Install Original Windows 8.1 I can't!
Because the OS Recovery DVD is not bootable And contain special recovery files with special extensions. Also, there is no PRODUCT CODE! Just "WINDOWS 8" sticker logo on the back of the notebook.
SO I WANT TO KNOW WHERE AND HOW(!)
I CAN GET A WINDOWS 8.1 ORIGINAL ISO IN ORDER TO INSTALL IT ON ALL MY PC's.
I want to know why I can't Install Just the "OPERATING SYSTEM RECOVERY DISK" (A standard clean Install)
== When I tried with my own Windows 8.1 Pro VL \ RETAIL ISO to Install it didn't pass activation==
==================== not even with the extracted key from the bios=====================
FYI - WHEN I BUY DELL OR HP LAPTOPS I'M GETTING A WINDOWS 8.1 PRO X64 BOOTABLE DVD DISK in addition to the 2 DVD RECOVERY DISKS. (So I am able to Install windows Without all the that you And them put into the recovery disk set).
Customer service in ISRAEL said that this is not possible! And that the only way is:
1. Use the 3 DVD recovery disks to format And Install windows 8.0
2. Register the user with a Microsoft account
3. Log in to each PC with his own Microsoft account
4. Download 8.1 update from Microsoft store
3. Install the 3.5GB update.
4. uninstall all the bloater.
So can I please ask you to confirm the answer I got from LENOVO ISRAEL. If So, ill return the laptops And that will the last time ANY OF MY COMPANY'S WILL EVER BUY ANY NOTEBOOKS OR TABLETS FROM LENOVO!
In addition, im trying to figure out how can I contact Lenovo main office to file a complaint against Lenovo Israel.
CEO Ms. Sigal didn't do anything to try And solve the issue, the product manager Mr. Many talk with me on the phone And was very rood. At the end he hang up the phone in my face! After I proved him wrong in another issue (T440s T431s cannot be installed with UEFI Because External DVD drive does not support UEFI Install only Legacy. And there is a big different between Legacy And UEFI)
Thank you.

Hi ohad, welcome to the forums,
I'm sorry to read about your experience.
I don't work for Lenovo but it would appear to me that something may have gone wrong at the sales / purchasing stage; to my knowledge the T431s is only available with Windows 7 preload, (with Win 8 recovery discs in some cases as you have), or with Windows 8 preload. A Win 8.1 preload doesn't appear to be available for the system, but I stand to be corrected on this.  If you required Windows 8.1, in my opinion the better option of the two, would have been a system with the Win 8 preinstall as this would only require updating to Win 8.1
Unfortunately I also can't envisage Lenovo creating a factory image for the T431s because it must be pretty near end of life.

  • Windows 7 Pro recovery DVD for T420 laptop?

Can you get a recovery DVD from Lenovo for the T420 laptop.  I created the recovery media, and then had the OS remove the recovery partition after the creation of the discs. I just found that there is a problem with the disc and can't restore the system now.
CAn I get a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit DVD from Lenovo if I provide a reciept, etc. so I can re-install the OS on the laptop??  EVen if I have to pay a small fee, that's fine.  I'd don't want have go buy another copy of Windows for this computer, which I've only had for about 2 months, and I frankly don't have the time to make a warranty claim (if I even can).

Lenovo will sell you a recovery media set for the same OS that shipped on your laptop.  IIRC, it will cost around $50US.
I've had a couple of cases where burned recovery media was defective and the laptop was still under warranty - and support sent media free.  I can't speak for them, but give support a call either way.

One thing to try if you're willing to gamble $.50 worth of plastic:  if a burn is marginal (rather than just wrong) it can sometimes be read in another drive.  Put your bad CD/DVD in another machine and see if it's readable.  If it is, copy and try the copy in your ThinkPad.  It requires a bit-for-bit copy - not just copying the files.

  • Windows 8.1 Recovery DVDs for upgrading?

My son-in-law just bought an HP-15 laptop from Costco. It came loaded with Windows 7 Professional, but also came with Windows 8.1 System Recovery DVDs (1 through 3) and instructions on how to install Windows 8.x. I understand that a recovery disk will wipe your system and re-install, but how can you "recover" what was not there in the first place? Can these Recovery disks really be used to upgrade his computer to 8.1? Thanks for any help!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

What you first need to do since it came with Windows 7 is create those REcovery disk first...see the last part...
Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive
Read this before ordering your Recovery Discs! (US and Canada Only)
Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive (Windows 7)
Also if Windows 7 is working fine you don't need to go Windows 8/8.1 the upgrade unless your laptop is touch screen will not benefit you also Windows might break the drivers or some software that works in 7 may not work correctly in 8. So be careful and not always try for the newest toys that could cost you more headache then you want and might not really benefit you more then the current Windows 7 can do for him already.

  • Need recovery DVD for Satellite C660-2FF

    Hi,
i need a recovery DVD for Satellite C660-2FF. HDD crashed.
Win 7 product key is available.
Who can help? maybe .iso download?
    thanks

Recovery image cannot be downloaded and if you need original recovery disc you can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Cannot make Recovery DVDs for the G580 with Windows 8

I notice that Windows 8 Notebooks are no longer being sold with Licenses affixed to the underside.  So if anything goes wrong (e.g. we have to replace the HDD at a later date)  we cannot just use a Windows 8 disk to restore the operating system.
This means it is important to make sure we have recovery DVDs.
With previous versions One Key Recovery had an option to make restore DVDs - it misses that option with Windows 8.
Phoned Lenovo support who said that we should make the DVDs through the Windows Backup system, which again is fine but on both Lenovo's I have tried it on Windows 8 cannot make a backup to DVD.  Also even if we could make the windows backup or system repair disks they would not allow a complete factory restore to a brand new HDD.
How do we make Recovery DVDs that would be bootable and would restore the Operating System to a brand new HDD if the worst should happen and the existing HDD suffered unrecoverable failure?  So far the only option that has come up from my various phonecalls is "buy a set of recovery discs for £25-£35 .... which would be a bit unfair having only had this 2 days.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    thanks for the feedback.
Could you please check out the following link and see if it contains a possible solution, I am aware it states only Think products in the compatability list but there are "cross-over" points where something could be of relevance to other Lenovo products.

  • Recovery DVD for Windows 7 on PXI-8119

    I have a PXI-8119 that shipped with a Windows 7 recovery disk.
First, I would like to thank NI for still shipping out recovery DVDs. Many manufaturers are insisting that you perform other tasks such as running a "recovery wizard" or perform a download of the image that can only be downloaded to the device it's meant for thus you need to have a network connection to the device.
To use the recovery disk I need to have a usb dvd drive.  A usb DVD drive is much more rare to have laying around the lab verses a usb thumb drive.
Does NI have a utility that would convert the supplied bootable DVD disk to a bootable USB drive?
Of course I can do this myself by downloading several utilities out there, but the paperwork to get these "free" tools approved for use can be very cumbersome. I would much rather use a tool from NI where we already have a service agreement and licenses approved.
Or does NI offer the ability to use a tool such as the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool.
I would be ok with downloading an ISO image if it meant creating an easy bootable USB drive.

    Hi MrQuestion,
Do you have acronis on your system?  Because you can run this to do the same thing the recovery DVD would do.  See the following link:

I had made to be sure they corect but the OS did not stand up.
Now I have a problem cos my hdd was formated during instalation and any one of the to recovery discs dont work.
ASP does not want to create a new hdd recovery on my hdd.
The one solution is to bay the dvd recovery i internet and pay 35 euro.
But why i have to pay for something I have alredy bought. It is stupid.
What I can do? Is there anything solution too do not pay?
Maybe someone have a dvd with recovery to Toshiba Satelite L350 16L VISTA HOME PREMIUM and could send to me.
I will pay for delivery of course. Or someone could share the fils through the internet.

    > 3 days ago I bought notebook Toshiba. I made two recovery discs and I decided to try installing Vista from recovery discs. I had made to be sure they correct but the OS did not stand up.
    What do you mean exactly?
Did you create the Recovery disk successfully or not?
I mean if you have created the recovery disk successfully then you should have this disk. Is it right?
So what is the problem exactly? Are you not able to boot from this disk or what?
By the way; the recovery disk has to be bought from the internet as you have mentioned.
The recovery disk is copyright protected and therefore its not allowed to share or copy it.

  • Lost recovery DVD for my Satelite A200

    Hello
I own Toshiba Satelite A200 notebook, and I accidantly broke my Recovery CD... I didnt make any backups. It simply cracked in my bag.
What should i do? I need to recover my system, my notebook isnt operational right now.
My Windows Vista is licensed, I can provide serial number of my Vista, Notebook or somethin. I can even make photos if you wish.
Maybe you can provide me with ISO image to download or somethin...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
unfortunately you wont get a recovery CD replacement since you destroyed it by yourself. The other thing is that Toshiba doesnt offer ISO images from their Recovery CDs for free download because this would be like MIcrosoft would offer Windows Vista on a FTP for download.
You will have to contact an Authorized Service Partner and ask them if they could provide you with a recovery media.

  • Dead Hard Drive / Windows 7 / No Recovery Disks for HP G61-632NR Notebook PC

My harddrive is completely DEAD.  Is there a way to find out using my serial number if my laptop came with 32 bit or 64 bit?  There is NO information at all in the documents I kept with the box.  Only the receipt.  I see I can only order recovery disks for 64 bit online as 32 bit is not available.  I don't' want to pay for them if they won't work. I'm so frustrated this laptop is only a little over 2 years old.

    Thanks so much!

  • Creating Recovery DVDs for Windows 8.1

I just bought the Lenovo C560 All-in-One and it came with Windows 8.1. I was able to use the One Key Recovery to create a backup file on my hard drive, that from what I've read appears to be the same as having a recovery disk. However, I'd also like to create the back up disks on DVDs incase for some reason something happens to the file saved on the hardrive.
I open OneKey Recovery, Click on System Backup, Go to Back up to "Hard Disk or Removeable Hard Drive", then when I browse for a new location it will only display C:\ as the only option.
Is it not possible to create back up DVD's for Windows 8.1?
Also the Lenovo Solution Center is telling me to download Lenovo Rescue and Recovery, but it seems like that is only for Winows 7 and earlier. Do I need to download Rescue and Recovery or is OneKey Recovery what I need to use?
I should also say, I've browsed through this form and Lenovo's support pages, but nothing I found seemed to be for systems that came with Windows 8.1. The posts I read all seemed to be about poeple who had upgraded to 8.1 from another OS.

Windows 8 will allow you to make backups/system images: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHjRZdL_kUs
OKR will only recognized non-partitioned external HDDs 2 TB or less. If you have a 4 TB drive or a partitioned device then, OKR won't recognize the drive.
FYI: Trucrypt folder counts as a partition.
You should only need the OKR system.

  • I have lost my recovery partition and recovery dvds for dv6-6c20tx notebook. how can i purchase one?

HP Pavilian dv6-6c20tx Entertainment Notebook PC
    Windows 7 64 Bit

    Hi:
Please read the info at the link below on how to order recovery disks:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07143&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lan...
If you can't get recovery disks, you can use this workaround if you can read your 25 character product key:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to DVD's for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Qosmio G20 - how to reinstall Windows XP without recovery DVD?

I am trying to install windows XP on the laptop. I bought the Qosmio without the reinstall cd . There is no Operating system installed on the hard drives at all. Everything is OK, till it asks for the raid drivers, then it says put the disc in 'A' drive. There is no drive on the G20.
Do I need to buy a usb floppy to do this, or does anybody have any solutions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Bazil2
I've Found The Solution For This Problem ,
[When installing Microsoft Windows XP using a USB floppy diskette drive on a drive that
requires a driver during installation, the USB floppy diskette drive is not recognized throughout
the installation. When Windows XP looks for the driver the second time, it will not be able to see
the USB floppy diskette drive and will prompt the user for the driver (RAID) again.
The installation will never get past this point. ]
