No Lightroom import of .thm files

Hi,
I have started using Lightroom 1.0 with an initial import using "Import Photos at their Current Location". Everything went fine.
However, I tried importing photos directly from my memory cards, using "Copy Photos to a new location and Import". Pictures look fine in LR, but no .thm files were in fact imported in the folders ! Is there a way to activate this ? If not, why is this functionnality disabled ?
Thanks for your help,
Belle-Isle

Precisely.
I was never really fond of them either. I always wondered why Canon did not gather everything in one file. Nevertheless, they do contain valuable previews AND data, and when I download my memory card and archive my raw shots, I want to make sure that I take along eerything that was generated by my camera. Then I can work with only the .crw file, but at least the rest is correctly stored somewhere.
As for the DNG format, I find it really good, but according to the few tests I've done, it does not contain all the metadata I had in the Canon raw files. If it did, I'd gladly switch over ! But for the same reason, I don't want to discard valuable information before it's safely backed-up.
Whatever the reason for keeping them, does anybody know of a way to have Lightroom download these .thm files ?

  • How do I stop Lightroom importing my Photoshop files?

Hi - I have asked this question elsewhere, but perhaps someone here has had a similar experience. In my Lightroom catalogue, I often need to open a raw (dng) file in Photoshop, work on it there and save the result as a jpeg. The jpeg is then sent to a client after which I have no further use for it, so normally I would delete it. However I find that every time I 'save as' in Photoshop, Lightroom imports that file into its database. The only exception is if I choose 'save for web' in Photoshop. I'm told that this behaviour is wrong - that LR shouldn't automatically import these images. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how do I solve it?
    (Mavericks, LR5.3, CS6)
    Thanks,
    Alex

I don't use Photoshop, but from what I've read, images sent to Photoshop via 'Edit In' should be 'Saved' not 'Save As'. The jpeg should then be exported from Lightroom.
I am sure there are those on the forum with a greater Knowledge in this process.

  • Lightroom Import cannot find files

Lightroom 5.5 has been working fine until today. I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer with 12 GB ram and 1.5 TB free hard drive space available.
LR seems to load OK, but when I press the Import button it slows down to a crawl and then finally comes back with the message that it cannot find any files to import. I have been importing directly from my camera via USB w/o a problem until today. If I try to transfer the files through Windows Explorer - there is no delay, so LR seems to be the problem.
Any ideas? suggestions? Thanks in advance, george

Do you want to  import the photos to the organizer? Then the previous poster gave you the right answer. However, it's not necessary to use the organizer if you already have your photos catalogued in lightroom. Instead, you can set PSE as your external editor and send the photos directly from LR. Lightroom preferences>external editor tab>browse to PSE. Then when you're in the editor or library modules, right click and choose to send the photo to elements.

  • How do I deal with .thm files and iMovie?

I've been using my digital camera to take short movies. When I download them onto my computer they show up as a file with a name like: MOV02161.MOV and another with an identical name but the extension .THM. When I double-click on the .mov file it opens in Quicktime and plays back no problem. When I import the .mov file into iMovie it plays without sound. I've noticed that the .thm file seems to be crucial to whether there is sound or not (I tried trashing one but then the Quicktime video played without sound!) but I can't import the .thm files into iMovie. Do I have to convert them to some other format? How do I do that?

    kstp,
the .thm file is simply a jpeg thumbnail version of your movie which you could probably view by changing the name from .thm to .jpeg (not entirely sure about that). Your audio problem is more likely caused by iMovie not having the codec needed to play the audio format encoded into your mov container. Maybe someone here more familiar with iMovie can tell you what audio formats work within iMovie, and you can set that in your camera to prevent this problem.
Now, worst case scenario is that you'll probably have to extract the audio and convert it to something that works in iMovie. You can extract the audio from within iMovie from the advanced options menu. You can also use a free app called FFMpegX to extract and convert it to something else. Hopefully though, someone here will have a more convenient solution for you.

  • So I updated to lightroom 3.6-now i cannot import any .nef files?

so I updated to lightroom 3.6-now i cannot import any .nef files? is that what you call progress?

    Hi,
I'm not sure why you think Lightroom 3 will support the D610 as it was only announced on October 8, 2013. Support for the D610 was released in the Lightroom 5.3 RC, see Lightroom 5.3 RC now available on Adobe Labs
If you wish to use you D610 files in Lightroom 3.6 you will need to download the Adobe DNG Converter, convert your NEF to DNG and then import into Lightroom 3.6. The DNG Converter can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
Or, better option is to upgrade to the current version of Lightroom

  • IPhoto 6 will not import .thm files

I have a Konica-Minolta A200 that I used taking vacation photos. Somehow I changed the settings on the camera and when I copy photos to my hard drive each photo contains a .jpeg file as well as a .thm file. This goes for photos as well as videos. I am able to see all of the photos with Graphic Converter, but when I try to import into iPhoto, I get a message stating that the photos that also contain the .htm files are unreadable. What do I need to do to import those photos? Do I need to convert to some other format? It will not read the .jpeg or .thm files on those photos.
    Thank you,
    Vikki

    Hi Vikki,
If you can open your photos in Graphic Converter, I would go ahead and use the SAVE AS option, use the jpg extension, and save to your dekstop or a folder on your desktop. You can then try import into iPhoto by simply dragging folder or image into iPhoto or iPhoto icon located on your Dock. Try one, if it works, do the rest of your images this way, save all to a folder and import folder...

  • Lightroom 4.4 will not import NEF RAW files from Nikon D610

I shoot a Nikon D800 and have never had any issues importing my NEF RAW files into Lightroom. I borrowed a friend's Nikon D610 and shot a bunch of NEF RAW files. I downloaded them to my computer the same way I always do. For some reason, Lightroom will not import them. The error message is: "The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (455)"
My Lightroom 4.4 is current and up-to-date.
Bottom line: I have a bunch of RAW photo files I can't import into Lightroom for editing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    >Just curious -- is there some difference between the NEF files created on my Nikon D800 (which are easily imported into Lightroom) and the NEF files created on the Nikon D610 (which are not easily imported into Lightroom)
Lightroom 5 supports the D610. There is a big difference between nef from the D610 and older cameras. They were shot with a camera that Adobe hadn't profiled yet when LR 4.4 was out. Otherwise, if you hack the nef files to read that they were shot on a D600, LR 4.4 will read them, but I would caution against doing that as the sensor is slightly different on the D610 than on the D600, resulting in differences in color rendering. Simplest is as dj says to convert the nets to dng (which embeds the newer profiles in the file) or to upgrade to LR 5.

  • New to Lightroom, problem importing raw CR2 files.

I am new to Lightroom and am having trouble importing my CR2 raw photo files. In the "import" section I select my SD card that contains the raw image files. All .jpeg files on the card show up as thumbnails but the CR2 files show "preview not available for this file." I select one of the CR2 thumbnails anyway, select a destination folder on my external hard drive and click "import." A window pops up that says, "this file is not recognized by the raw support format in Lightroom." I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and am working with a Windows Vista operating system (on an old, junky laptop). My camera is a Canon 70D and am shooting in RAW+JPEG. I also downloaded the Adobe .DNG converter 6.3 to try to convert the files before importing them into Lightroom and it is also not recognizing and importing my CR2 files. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

I would recommend downloading DNG Converter 8.2 which is compatible with Vista.
The latest version 8.6 requires W7 or W8

  • How To Import .THM Files Into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello:
I just purchased a Canon Vixia HFM50.  When I use the presets, there is support for the AVCHD format.  The file extension for the AVCHD format from the Canon is *.THM.  Yet, that file type is not recognized.  How do I import it?
    Regards,
    Rich Locus

    Hi Rich Locus,
Thanks for your post.  THM is an image file format for thumbnails. Images are made smaller for browsing purposes, usually because it is easier to view and takes less time to load.
THM files can be viewed by most image preview or editing programs on both Macs and PCs. THM files are similar to .JPEG files, and those .
THM files representing image files can usually be converted to JPEG format by changing the name of the file from .THM to .JPEG or .JPG.
THM files can also be used by videos. When extracting a video file from a camcorder, a thumbnail will be created to represent the video, usually taken from the video’s first frame.
The .THM file will then have the same name as the .AVI file that it represents. With Canon-created video files, the .THM file also contains the metadata for the video, and therefore needs to remain with and have the same name as the .AVI file. Please update if changing the extension of the file works.
    Regards,
    Vinay

  • How to import Hasselblad fff files into Lightroom 5 keeping 16bit?

I have a problem importing Hasselblad fff files into Lightroom 5. I have seen articles that I should change them into DNG by Phocus.
When a photo is converted into DNG file it seems that it becomes 8 bit when I open in photoshop. Since I am shooting with RAW, I'D like to keep it
in 16 bit. Am I making sense? Or I am missing some information regarding DNG and 8bit business?
Please teach me the best way.

If opening directly from LR into Photoshop check your pref settings.
Edit >> Preferences >> External Editing (Lightroom >> Preferences >> External Editing on Mac OSX)
The usual choice is to render a 16 bit tiff or PSD file. Make sure it’s not incorrectly set to 8 bit.

You need Lightroom 4 or CS6.  Otherwise you will have to download the free DNG software and convert images.

I have Lightroom 3.6 all updated. I can't Import any raw files from my T5i
I have also tried using Adobe DNG but it will not read the files either.
    Any Help would be Awesome
    Thanks

You need LR 4.4 or DNGC 7.4 or newer for the T5i:

It is mislabeled as T51 on Adobe’s page.

  • Lightroom 2 won't import Nikon D3s files

I work with Photoshop CS4 and have upgraded the camera RAW to v5.7 in order that Nikon D3s files can be used,  but Lightroom 2 doesn't seem to be able to import these NEF files.  Where can I update Camera Raw in Lightroom and how do I do this exactly?
    Thank you

    Thanks; I ordered the upgrade.

The A33 isn't supported until LR 3.2.  So, if you posted to this thread because you are using LR 2, then that's your problem.

  • Lightroom 4 missing RAW files on import

After upgrading from lightroom 3 I'm having a problem importing my raw files. Most of the time Lightoom 4 will only recognize some of my .CR2 files and only the JPGS of the rest of them. The weird thing is that it's not my card reader. When I access the card through finder I can see all of my files. It's only in Lightroom that I can't access all the files.
It's very random about which CR2s will and will not be recognized at any give time. Sometimes it's one day only of a shoot, sometimes it's completely random photos spread across different days. I always shoot RAW+JPEG on a Canon 60D. As of now I just keep plugging and unplugging my card until all the RAWs show up for an import but this is annoying and time consuming. Anybody know what's going on?

Suggest you try the 4.1RC (available here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lightroom4-1.html) as there were some bugs in this area which were fixed in the RC.
