No links on new tab page as start page

The new tab page feature of FF 13 works fine but only if I create a new tab with + . I would like to have the page also at startup but there I have only the option 'blank page' which is actually blank. Question: How to have the link boxes also at startup?

hello, you can just set about:newtabs as your homepage manually (this is the address of the new tabs page)

When I start mozilla or open any link in a new window I get the desired page to load but an additional new tab page opens up along with it. Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
For Firefox versions previous to 29.0:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
For Firefox 29.0 and above:
#Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox". Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.

• When I right click on a link "Open link in new tab" since a few days, it "jumps over" the tab to the right and opens in the tab next to that. How can I change this back to opening in the tab next to the page from which I opened as it used to be?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Open page links in new tab instead of current tab

Hi,
I just upgraded to the new version of FF and when i now open links from my current page, they open on the same page rather than in a new tab.
How do I fix this? I know that it sometimes depends on the page, but pages that used to open links in new tabs (and do in IE) open on the current page in FF.
How do I fix?
thanks
amit.

You can middle click a link to open the link in a new tab.

• When I right click and select open link in new tab, it leaves the page I am on and takes me to the first tab to the right

I usually have many tabs open when I read the news, and it is nice to select open links in new tabs while scrolling through a news' home page. Lately, however, Mozilla has been opening the new tab, but switches the page I am viewing to the first tab to the right of the home page. For example, I had ESPN.com open, and then a few Facebook tabs after that to the right. Whenever I would select open link in new tab, the tab I was viewing would switch from ESPN.com to the first Facebook tab to the right, and the new tab would open a little further down the line. Any chance anyone knows how to fix this?

• When accessing favorites imported from IE8, duplicate links appear for those bookmarks on Google new tab page, while things I have bookmarked in Firefox appear normally, as a single link.

For several months now, I have had this issue. I'm not sure if this is an issue with Google Toolbar or Firefox, but I have uninstalled and re-installed the toolbar several times, and the same thing keeps happening when I access anything Imported from IE8. Anything I originally bookmark in Firefox appears as a single link on the Google new tab page, while my favorites from IE8 appears twice. Everything appears as normal in the Firefox Bookmarks menu. This doesn't seem to affect functionality in any way, but it is rather irritating at times. Is it possible it could be a bug in IE8? I'm curious to see if anyone knows of a solution to this issue. Any help or input is greatly appreciated. Has anyone else had this happen? I have the latest versions of Google Toolbar and Firefox, so far as I'm aware. Thanks, once again, for your time and input.

Thanks to jscher! With some help from AVG my AVG & Google browser panels now work OK. But I've taken the advice & disabled several extensions including the Disconnect. The browsers are still OK after re-launching them so I keep fingers crossed.
My original problem was that I had suddenly found a small popup window appearing, over the browser window, that I couldn't get rid of. It contained an advisory to the effect that Windows couldn't find the file popuptransparent[dot]xul. I tried searching for that to see what it was and in the course of doing that I seem to have executed it. Then was when the trouble started.
I have 3 instances of that file in my computer and would dearly like to get rid of them if they are of no use to me. Any advice there?

• How to set a New Tab as the start page in Firefox and lock in my choice of web sites

You may set the New Tab page Firefox shows when opening a new tab as its start page, and you can lock in the web sites you want displayed there.
I set my browser to open a New Tab as its start page and have locked in six destinations from which to choose on my start page.
First I open Firefox and open a new tab. Then I delete any open tabs other than this New Tab. Optionally, I can also set a second tab to open to a specific web site
Next I go to Tools and Options (or Edit and Preferences in Linux) and select the General tab on the far left. Click on
[Use Current Pages].
Each time I open Firefox it will open showing me the New Tab.
I can select from pages that I have already visited the six pages I want to have appearing on my New Tab every time. Supposing there are no pages locked in yet, and I don't want the site in the top left. I hit the X in its thumbnail's top right corner, it disappears and every other site thumbnail moves up and there is a new site appearing in the sixth slot. Note that if I have visited one page frequently, it may appear more than once, or be replaced by itself. If that happens, just keep deleting until the page you want shows up.
If I find a site that I want to save, then there is a thumbtack in the top left corner of the thumbnail. It is black, but if I click it it turns blue, and the thumbnail is a keeper.
This web site is in the second row, second over, but I want it to be up on the top row. Just drag and drop and the two sites exchange places. Make sure it has a blue thumbtack. The lock-down thumbtacks and delete X symbols appear in the top left and top right, respectively while the mouse is hovering over them.
It is possible to delete a saved site, and it is possible to undo the thumbtack. Simply click the X to delete or click the blue thumbtack to unlock the site and turn the thumbtack black.
You may choose to tack down a few sites and let the remainder float in and out, driven by your browsing history.
Through my use of this approach, I have instant access to my club's web site, two Webmail sites, and some other often-visited places on the Web, all in one start page.
About the only thing I really don't need there is a Google search box, for if I enter my search terms in the address bar I get the same result as if I had specifically typed in the search box.
Some add-ons, often potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), will replace the Firefox about:newtab (address of the New Tab) with eBay, Facebook, Twitter icons among others, and a different search engine. These icons may have a nicer appearance than the default Firefox New Tab, but you may also be looking at extra, unnecessary work for the computer, especially if behind the pretty icons there is a hidden agenda.
Personally, I would stay clear of these add-ons, and perform some scanning with an up-to-date antivirus and antimalware software.

If this is not a pinned (App) tab then the home page should open in that tab.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Is it possible to have the new tab page appear by default when Firefox starts?

Can Firefox be set to display the new tab page when starting the browser? In Options > General, the only choices under "When Firefox starts" is show the home page, a blank tab, or restore previous session.
Alternately, can the new tab page be set as the home page?

• Why does right-click & "Open Link in New Tab" make the original tab name to change to "New Tab" when I back-arrow in the original tab to reach the original page

I use Google as my home page.
When I do a search in Google I have a practice of opening the search links in a new tab by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Open Link in New Tab". That way I can examine multiple links from the search page, which is now open in the first tab.
The problem that occurs is that when I use the back-arrow in the Navagation bar to return the first tab to its original page, I find the tab name of the original page to be "New Tab" rather than "Google" and I have to click on the "Reload current page" in the Navigation bar to return the tab name to "Google".
I'm using Firefox-25 on a Linux-Mint 64-bit platform with KDE-4.9.5.

The problem is just with the name of the tab, not with the contents of the page -- the page looks normal??
I ask about the page because Firefox 23 seems to have introduced a problem with Firefox's "fast back-forward cache" on the Google search results page. It is related to the "instant prediction results" feature interacting with Firefox is some different way. • "Open Link in New Tab" doesn't remember first page in history

I recently noticed that the "Open Link in New Tab" is not remembering the very first page in the tab history. The replication is simple.
# Go to any page (Google works well)
# Right click and chose to open a link on the page in a new tab
# On the new tab, left click a link to load a new page
# The "Go back one page" button will remain grey and you will not be able to go back to the first page for the tab.
# Left click another link and the "Go back one page" button will now be active allowing you to go to the previous page, but not all the way back to the first page of the tab.
This happens whether I use the middle mouse or a right click and chose open in new tab. It is present since I upgraded to Firefox 4.0, but was also happening before the upgrade when I was using Firefox 3.6.

I have the same problem. There are two other problems that might be related. The first one is, sometimes it seems like Firefox loses focus of the page so if I try to refresh the page using CTRL-R or the refresh button, nothing happens. The only way to refresh the page is to hit CTRL-L and Enter as it you're opening the page again. The second problem happens when another window is opened (e.g. new window, new bookmark window from CTRL-SHIFT-B). When you go back to the original window, everytime you go to the tab that the new window was opened from, somehow Firefox brings the window to the front, but the focus is still on the tab.

• I want to change the new tab page - it currently is a list of recent site - i share the computer and find this annoying. would like all tab pages to be same as start page

i want my new tab pages to look the same as my starter page.

Firefox by default uses a blank page for a new tab. Something you installed has changed that action to what you are complaining about. You need to figure out which add-on made that change and disable that add-on or change the preference in that add-on.

• Go back to new tab page after clicking a link

In Firefox 14 (Beta), after discovering New Tab Tools I decided to ditch Speed Dial and use the default new tab page. Didn't miss anything.
Yesterday, I upgraded to the FF15 beta and now when I click a link on the new tab page I can't go back to it. I need to open a new tab to go back to it, instead of being able to view a page, go back, and view another page. I tried looking in the about:config to see anything that could look remotely like an option to keep the new tab page in the back history, but I found nothing. Any way to fix this?
I also checked on Firefox UX, and it as that "feature" too. So it's not an add-ons problem, but instead a regression in Firefox.

I don't see a solution here, am I missing something?
I have this problem and would like to find the fix.
Thanks

• The new tab page is showing Gmail inbox pages, meaning anyone can start a new tab and get access to my email. How do I stop this?

When I open a new tab, within the pages brought up is my gmail inbox. This mean anyone can have access to my inbox without logging in, without my password. How do I restrict this access?

If you log out of Gmail, then clicking the thumbnail should take you to a login page. If you don't log out, then anyone can access your email just by typing gmail.com in the URL bar. But you're right that the picture does create a temptation to click...
You can set the new tab page back to blank if you prefer. However, please note that the page thumbnails are stored in the browser cache, so you also need to clear your cache to flush out existing thumbnails if you don't want anyone to be able to see them.
