No local area codes

I am willing to pay for an online number but I live in Prestatyn, North Wales. The area code is #441745. I do not have the option to select this area code when buying a number. The nearest area code to me is over 50 miles away, and that is in England, thee nearest welsh std code is over 120 miles away. I would not benefit from this. Having only downloaded Skype today, I may be deleting tomorrow??

I have had the same problem. I now can't activate my new credit card. I can't beleive this hasn't happened to any one else?

  • Configuring UK Local Area Codes for BE3000 Site

When configuring sites for the BE3000, it is possible to define a local area code.  This creates entries in the dial plan that allow users to just dial a local number with the system automatically adding the area code.
Currently (as of version 8.6.4) the BE3000 user interface requires that these local area codes are defined without the national trunk access code (i.e. the leading zero).
    Examples:
    Customer Location
    Local Area Code
    BE3000 Site Configuration
    London
    020
    20
    Bristol
    0117

    Bath

    1225

    Hello,
I've escalated this issue and hope that we can provide better coverage for this part of the UK.  A common reason for the lack of Skype #s in a particular location is often the inability of the local telco to make sufficient #s available to Skype to enable the facility to be offered.
That may or may not be the case here and a review will establish the reason.
Thank you for your informative posts.

  • SPA3102 Local area code

Was wondering if there was a way to set up my router so that when I dial out via voip, I wouldn't have to dial the country code + area code and so that it automatically dials the local are code when I dial a 7 digit number?
(Note: I tried to make this thread in the voip router thread but I don't have the permissions to.)

But couldn't figure out what to chose among 13 choices listed as New York City Zones 3 through 15.  Is there a difference in the Zones? I notice they all have the same area code - 347.
There are some subtle differences, related to how local phone calls are billed for callers in New York City.  It would not affect how the Online Number works for you - you are not charged for incoming calls made to Skype's Online Numbers, when you answer those calls with Skype.  For those calling you, it can mean the difference between a free call to your Online Number and having to pay a small fee to call your number.  For someone calling from outside the New York City area, it probably doesn't matter which of those zones you use for your Online Number.
I have not found a good concise online reference to those calling zone in the past.  I have found some rather cryptic material that shows which prefixes in each of the New York City area codes are in each of those zones.  The zones are defined by lists of prefixes within each of those area codes, and those lists can be substantial with the growth in mobile phones over the years.

  • Address Book won't import local area code

I'm trying to export my contact info from Palm Desktop to Address Book. Everything works fine, expect that AB doesn't import a contact's area code if it's my local area's code. In this case AB only imports a contact's 7 digit phone number. This isn't a problem with area codes outside of my local code, --they import just fine, and I get the whole 10 digits.
I've tried exporting both vCards and text files. By opening the text file with TextEdit, I have verified that Palm Desktop is indeed exporting the area codes --both my local code and distant ones. Yet when I import that same file into AB, contacts in my local area are stripped of the area code.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance, --Brian

Thanks for your questions/suggestions. I think they have helped lead me in the right direction over the past 24 hours, though I still don't have a solution.
To make the long story short:
I believe the problem lies in the fact that as I've added contacts to Palm Desktop over the years, I've not included an area code if they were in my area. Now I'm switching to AB since it can sync with my new cell phone, and I'm needing area codes for all calls. Rather than enter my local code for hundreds of contacts, I've used a Palm preference whic sets up a "default area code."
What I have discovered is that contacts for which I have manually entered an area code transfer to AB just fine. Contacts for which this preference provides the area code lose this information in the transfer. This is baffling, because the two cases look identical when viewed with Textedit, --the area code is visible plain as day in either situation.
Just as puzzling --when AB imports a contact it gives a chance to review the information if the card is a duplicate. When I perform this review a "Text File Import" window appears. In this window areas codes always appear, --whether manually entered or provided by the Palm preference. However, in the "Reviewing Card" window which follows, cards which had Palm preference provided area codes have inexplicably lost those codes, while those with manually entered codes have retained them.
    Any further thoughts?
    Thanks some more, --Brian

  • Dialing local area code with new digital voice?

So I just had Verizon phone/tv/internet installed 2 days ago.  I have FIOS digital voice and I have to dial my area code to make all local calls.  I'm told this service is 6 months new and that I will see a nearly $10 savings in government charges and taxes from other FIOS telephone customers.
Anyone out there have digital voice and knows someone who has regular FIOS voice and compared bills yet? Curious since it would be a couple of months before I know the exact savings.  I hear the first bill is will be different than the rest.

The "solution" is to dial 10 digits. Period. What is the big deal? I have had to dial 10 digits for 15 or 20 years, starting with my original POTS service and now with Digital Voice.

  • New City/Area Code??

I'm visiting another city and I can't figure out how to set up a local number to call so that I can access my Skype 2 Go. How do I do this?
There is a feature where I can change my current local area code, but I don't understand what it does, or if it's necessary when I'm temporarily away from my home city. Please help!

Why is it you want verizon to jump through hoops? The number you have will ring no matter where you are so a new number is not really necessary. You are not charged long distance and with today's phone service I doubt anyone else is either.
You just change your number if you desire, in the old land line days that phone forwarding message was useful but like everything today it has been discontinued its progress I guess.
Just remember your number was not transferred even in cases you moved across the street, today the number follows you all over the world. Progress?
Changing a number is also risky in that the last person who had it could of been doing something to break the law, or had bill collectors calling all night and day, or other annoyances. Keep the number you have and stay happy. That is my advice.
    Good Luck

  • UCCX 7 outbound dialing, problem with area codes

    Hello all,
I'm just testing the outbound dialing feature in a lab, and have run into the following problem:
    I have following:
    outbound configuration:
    general:
Customer dialing time: start (9:00) end (21:00)
    dialing prefix - 9
    international prefix - 00
    Local Area Code: 44
    Area Codes:
    44 -> Europe/London
    34 -> Europe/Madrid
86 -> GMT-10 (for testing purposes, does not correspond to real China time).
Then, I upload a .CSV file into a campaign with the following information:
    Jane,Smith,00447111113007
    Jacky,Chan,0086611115002
    Juan,Pablo,0034611114001
The dialing works, the agent receives the call, accepts it, and then the call is made.
if anyone is interested, although it has nothing to do with the question itself, the calls are translated to other extension on CUCM to be able to make a call.
The problem is that, they are all treated as in the same AREA CODE, although I have clearly defined area codes for each of those countries.
when the call appears it shows on the CAD as BAAreaCode: +00060
Therefore the calls are made through to China even when it's midnight there!!!???
I know I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Cheers,

    Hi Aaron,
Sorry for being so late to answer you. But I've done quite a few tests last weekend and have couple traces as well.
Apparently, the first time I added area codes, I did something incorrect, although I do not know what exactly, because now I've added area codes and it partially worked.
Area code: 4420 - Europe/London with Daylight saving
Area code: 3498 - Europe/Madrid with Daylight saving
Area code: 8661 - GMT/+7 NO Daylight saving
The first two Area codes (Spain and London) were correctly identified, In traces I could even see:
    this one is for Spain:

  • UK online numbers limited list of area codes

I have been using Skype for some time with the UK + Europe monthly skypeout package. As a result of this I rarely use my land line and would like to ditch it (my internet comes through cable).
My problem is that there seems to be a limited choice of area codes. I live in Northampton and would thus like an 01604 area code so that friends and family don't get charged extra for calling me.
Is there a way of requesting a local area code?
    Many thanks
    Karl

    Hello,
If an area code is not listed in the available range for a Skype Number it means that there are not sufficient telephone numbers in that area code to enable the UK telco authority to release spare numbers for use in the Skype Number program. It has nothing to do with population size and is not something over which Skype has any influence.

  • Dialing area code for local call - is this normal?

Just had my FIOS triple play installed over the weekend. In the recent past I've used VOIP providers Optimum Voice, Vonage, Packet8, MagicJack and Ooma, and FIOS is the only one that makes me dial my area code to make a local call (I'm in area code 516, where it is not normally necessary to do so).
Is this a bug in the system, and if so, are there any plans to fix it? When I first signed up with Optimum Voice they had a similar problem, but that was 9 years ago!

It is disgraceful that when I signed up for FIOS that I was  not informed that I would have to us my area code to call my next door neighbor!!! My realtives that use Fios do not have to do that. They advertise like everything is local buy when I called to complain I'm on the phone with people in Texas who do not even work for Verizon!!!  I will be call the Public Service Commission, Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs on Monday. The Technical Support  people who I waited on hold 15 minutes to speak to were rude and say if I pay more I can have this issue resolved!!!  Bait and Switch if I ever heard it!!

  • Online Number "Area Code/Local Area" Selection DOE...

Someone else already posted this earlier, but im having the same problem. I am trying to get an online skype number (NOT THE "TO GO" NUMBER) in the United States and I am able to set the country and state selections, but when asked to set the area code/local area (step 2 on the page) there is a blank field and the drop down box to select the area code is also blank. Reloading the page (numerous times) doesn't fix the entry, and this is apparently the same problem for each state selection, so
I have included the URL where the process starts:
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en/features/allfeatures/online-number/
and the URL for where the error is occuring on the US section:
     https://secure.skype.com/skypein/number?vc=&country_code=US&voucher=
It still works for all of the other countries and for the "Skype To Go Numbers," but for some reason not the same with the "online skype numbers" where people can reach you in the United States section and when i type in a number on the local number box i get the area code of the smallest number within the same area of the state on the payment page no matter what combination. Like for Texas i'll get a 210 area code number (San Antonio,TX); For California i'll get a 209 area code number (Modesto,CA); For Florida i'll get a 239 area code number (Naples, FL); For Georgia i'll get a 229 area code number (Albany, GA) and so on. But the bottom line is that due to this error there you only have one area code choice for each state, which more than likely in a remore area of the state. If it could be changed to where we type in the area code and number i would greatly appreciate it and purchase a number. Trying to get past this entry for a week or two now and having no luck. I tried to enter a number in the field, which which it doesn't allow me to do. If anyone can help in fixing this problem, i would greatly appreciate it and start getting new numbers. But i'm not looking to just get a remote area code within a state.

    Dear Readers,
My experience is similar; in my region, I had to choose a number from a nearby township; numbers in my locale were simply not available.  As I understand it, Skype obtains numbers from local telephone companies; numbers are not available everywhere.
    From this information:  https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA256/how-do-i-set-up-my-skype-number
When you purchase a Skype Number, you will need to choose one from our pre-selected range. However, you can choose your favorite number from that range. You can search for your preferred number using the Enter your favorite combination search box, or by clicking Show ten new suggestions… to scroll through the available options.

  • Iphone Makes me dial my area code for local calls

For no apparent reason, I started having to dial my area code for local calls manually dialed.
After research/ Found the problem:  The culprit in my case was my AT&T Micro Cell tower.  All it took was realizing it only did it at home (the location of the towerr) and a lot of trouble shooting with Apple support.  They were stumped.  The fix was a simple reset of the tower.

It is good practice to always store numbers in contacts with the area code. There is no harm in dialing the area codes even if you live in an area that still uses 7-digit dialing. And, it prevents issues when you travel.

  • Must dial area code for local calls

A couple of weeks ago, my ability to dial local calls with 7 digits ended. I get a recording saying I must dial the area code. I am in the Albany, NY area (area code 518).  No one else has to dial the area code. I tried to call tech support but I have never been able to get through. I tried on-line chat and was told the extra digits were necessary due to the phone service being voip. Now, TimeWarner Cable has voip service and their customers don't dial the area code for local calls. I can't believe this voip answer that I was given.  Even my Verizon cell phone allows me to only dial 7 digits.
I like the fios service but the availability of support is terrible. Support that I received from TimeWarner was always good to excellent.
The support reminds me of the old show Laugh In where Lily Tomlin played a telephone company operator and her famous line was "We don't care. We don't have to. We're the phone company."

You can use or not use the 1 before dialing the area code.  I have programmed my cell phone and all speed dials to include the area code.  If you leave the NY area with your cell and travel outside your home it will tell you that you must dial the area code so i just include the area code on any and all phone numbers nowadays.
When you go to someone elses house using the area code will generally work even though 7 digit dialing may not be required.  Just use all 10 numbers to play it safe, same on the cell.  This way you get used to using 10 digit dialing.
