No longer able to save iCal calendars "on my mac"

I have some of my iCal calendars saved "on my mac", and some of my iCal calendars saved "on iCloud".
After updating to 10.8.2, syncing of calendars in the iCloud settings preference pane were not enabled. I enabled it, and was asked if I wanted to merge calendars on my Mac with calendars in iCloud. I answered "yes", and after that I have no longer the option to save a new calendar "on my mac".
If I create a new calendar, the only option is to save it in iCloud (I have an option saving it in .Mac, but that is obviously no longer working since MobileMe is no more).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to be able to save new calendars "on my Mac"?

Hi,
I'd recommend trying two things to see if it solves your problem:
1. Restart the Windows audio service. Press your Windows key + R to bring up the Run dialogue box. Type in services.msc and select the Windows audio service. Restart it. Now try to select your TV as the audio device.
2. If the above step is unsuccessful, restart your computer while the TV is on and connected to your laptop through HDMI. Audio should play automatically.

Are you using Pages 5.2 on your Mac or Pages on your iPad, I ask because of your profile?
If it is Pages 5.2 on your Mac, use the Export option.

Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac 2004 is no longer able to Save or Save As documents.  After clicking Save or Save As, the program ceases to respond and must be Force Quit.  Any tips on making Word functional again?

There was a second Security Update (v1.1).  Did you download that one.  It was supposed to have fixed the problems created by the prior update.  At least is solved my problems with Quicken 2007 for Mac and AppleWorks 6.

  • Upgrade to Mountain problems. No longer able to "save as" a document

I upgraded today from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I am sorry I did. I needed it for a new software I wanted to get - Sketchup Pro 2013.
Here are some of my issues:
    My system is running slow!
When I try to do a "save as" in preview, pages, numbers, etc., there no longer is a save as in the pull down menu. If a go to help and type save as it will pop up under help - what a pain.
When i open softwares, like quickbooks, it tells me that my QB wants to import my contacts.
I have not been using mail - instaed I use gmail. Is it time for me to cross over to mail? When someone invites me to a meeting, if I try to accept it, it says my response cannot be sent. (I used to use outlook and that worked seamlessly. However, I am now on my own and wanted to get something like gmail that was free.)
There will probably be more issues as I continue. Have other people been disappointed with Mountain Lion?
And what is Mavericks? Is that going to change everything?
    Well. Thanks for the help.
PS I had been a pc user for over 25 years. Got my iMac 4 years ago and have never looked back. I have paraells on my computer (I also use AutoCAD), but I try to avoid using windows at all costs!

Save as is available in Mountain Lion by hitting the Option key while you access the File menu. (It was returned after being eliminated in Lion).

How much RAM do you have installed? Mountain Lion is somewhat of a memory hog. And, how much free/empty hard drive space do you have?
And what is Mavericks? Is that going to change everything?
Apple announced a new OS a few days ago; it is supposed to be released in the fall.

The capability to sync is a new feature. You don't need to do it. I did not allow any app to import my contacts. You can also turn off other features if you do not like them - simply go through all the System Preference Panes and decide what you want and what you don't want.

  • ICal calendars on my Mac don't sync with iCloud

Am I missing something? When I configured iCloud, I noticed that I suddenly had duplicates of my Address Book and Calenders. My Mac can sync with my phone, my phone can sync with iCloud, but I can't sync my Mac with iCloud.
Maybe I'm too lazy and haven't read enough about it, but it seems like a total cluster.
So now, when I want to update my calendar on my Mac, I have to go to iCloud instead of using iCal.
Anyway, if I'm missing something... feel free to point it out. No offense taken

I have something similar and i will try to explain with my rusty english.
I have an ID on iCloud but i can't sync the iCal events.
On my mac there is everythign (appointment, notes birthdays and so on). On my iCloud there is nothing.
I suppose was something related with the old ID  (one just for ichat, not one of the ID that you pay to receive extra services or a @me.com account).
Now, as soon as the icloud features was installed on my Macbook Air I signed a new ID and initially everything worked fine. Emails on Mail and  contacts were syncronized properly but with the new ID. i did not check iCal account.
So i tried also with the old one (the ichat ID) and all was sync. So i realized that maybe Apple recognized same account or name and merge all the ID in just one.
    I was wrong.
The 2 ID's are not linked.
further checks add also this new weird stuff. in any case i cant sync ical accounts. i tried to switch from one to another ID. no way. i checked preferences in iCal on the mac. everything is fine. no way.
    do uu have any idea?

  • The option to create iCal calendars 'on my mac' has gone since updating to mountain lion

I can create a new calendar 'on my mac' in busycal, but not in ical.
I also cannot create a new reminder list 'on my mac'
Is this intended behaviour, or is this a bug?

I think it's a bug. Same thing happened to me and I managed to fix it.
In Calendar->Preferences->Accounts, disable the iCloud account (there's a simple tickbox). All the iCloud calendars will disappear from Calendar's list.
Now create a new calendar, and it will appear "On My Mac". Make sure that the new calendar does not have the same name as any of your iCloud calendars, to avoid Calendar being tempted to merge them later.
Go back to the preferences and re-enable iCloud. All the iCloud calendars will reappear, and your File->New Calendar menu should now give you the choice of creating in the cloud or locally.
Somehow it got stuck and forgot about the On My Mac choice at installation time, but it seems OK now.

  • Ical calendar on my mac not synching with iCloud

icloud calendars is checked in system preferences, however my ical appears empty on my macbook pro. Why is my iphone calendar not synching with ical in macbook pro even though icloud preferences are properly set up?

I wish I'd found this earlier.  Here's some info that takes Winston's solution a bit further:
I just spent a bunch of time with Apple and have solved my similar problem.  A week ago, iCal and my iPhone calendar stopped syncing.  My assortment of iCal calendars were gone from iCloud, so that was the problem (not phone to iCloud).  After much de-selecting and re-selecting, I realized that all my important calendars were @me.com type.  I tested the iCloud calendars, and they functioned perfectly.  Apple explained a simple way to migrate the @me.com calendars to iCloud:
Create a new iCloud calendar     File > New Calendar > iCloud
    Name the calender
Right click the old @me.com calendar and choose Export.  Desktop is a good destination.
Drag the exported calendar from your desktop to the new iCloud calendar
iCal should show duplicates of all events in the @me.com calendar.
De-select the @me.com calendar.  The duplicates will disappear.
Repeat with all the @me.com calendars and abandon this antiquated list.
Rejoice in your shiny new list of iCloud calendars that shows up everywhere it is supposed to.
There must be a lot of people out there who still have @me.com calendars, so I hope this info reaches them before they all spend time and money with Apple trying to sort it out.

  • How do I save iCal calendar as desktop image?

I remember a very old program preinstalled on Macintosh Performas called Expresso, that had a terrific feature allowing your monthly calendar to be automatically saved as your desktop picture. I have been unable to find a program that duplicates this feature. I've tried creating an Automator project that creates a jpg file that could be used as a desktop picture, but it doesn't seem to work, and keeps "encountering an error". I'm not sure it I'm doing it right. Here are the steps I have recorded:
-- Click “iCal” in the Dock.
    -- Click the “File” menu.
    -- Print…
    -- Click the “Continue” button.
    -- Click the “Preview” button.
    -- Click the “File” menu.
    -- Save As…
-- Make a selection from the popupbutton.
    -- JPEG
    -- Click the “Save” button.
    -- Click the “Preview” menu.
    -- Quit Preview
    -- Click the “iCal” menu.
    -- Quit iCal
Does anyone have any ideas how to create such an automated project, or even better does anyone know how to automatically save a monthly calendar to the desktop without going through all this trouble?
    Many thanks.

Make your calendar display full screen. Shift-command-3 to save a screenshot on the Desktop (it will be PictureN.png, where N depends on what is there already). System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver. Choose the Desktop tab and click + under the list at the left and browse to the desktop. Select you PictureN and choose Fit to Screen.

  • No longer able to save to a .PDF using Acrobat 8 Pro and any CS3 program

I spent several hours on phone with Apple and Adobe today-It seems that Snow Leopard and Anything below Acrobat Pro 9 and InD 4 are no longer compatible for exporting, printing or saving as a .PDF.  Using Acr. Pro 8 and InD CS 3  Anyone find a fix as yet?  I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
I am a MAC user for less than 2 years.  Do I have to update Adobe Suite every time it upgrades?  Very financially draining, as I am not a Graphic Artist.
Apple Tech-always wonderful-but unable to help sent me this : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
.PDF printer continues to work very well on all programs not ADOBE.
Right now my only work around is to send my InD file to a friend who had InD CS4 and ask him to save to PDF for me and sent back file!
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

PS_Adobe wants me to Pay $39 to speak with a Tech support agent-This is already a documented issue.  Not a "my MAC" issue.  I find this disturbing.

There is no necessity to upgrade your copy of Creative Suite every two years.
However, apparently you chose to upgrade your operating system version. Was there any necessity of doing that, especially doing so very quickly after it was released? For better or worse, Apple does not regard ongoing application compatibility as a requirement for their new OS releases. Thus, if you upgrade versions of MacOS, be prepared to (1) upgrade your applications as well and (2) possibly endure a period of time in which the applications don't work under the new OS version until the application vendor can re-jigger their code to deal with the upwards-incompatible OS changes.
These issues are not confined to Adobe applications, but also affect Microsoft Office and any significantly complex applications that are provided directly by Apple themselves. There is nothing we at Adobe can do about this and we like this situation no more than you do.
This is not the first time these problems of upward-incompatible OS releases have plagued users and application vendors. It took Apple until 10.5.6 to get some level of stability in the 10.5.x (Leopard) OS release so that it was reasonably usable with most third party applications, drivers, etc.

  • No longer able to save Word documents - older Macbook

When I have tried to save multiple Word documents recently, I get this message:
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected. Try one or more of the following:
    *Free more memory
*Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged"
I have 60GB of free space, but to be sure, I deleted 30 old documents and still no dice. I have no idea what write-protected means.
    Thanks.

This website was helpful for me:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-101017.html
"as you work. Consequently, if working in Word for a long period of time, and frequently "saving" Word will hit its quota of saves and refuse to save anything else. The error messages ("too many documents open" or "disk full") are bogus and obviously not true in the real sense, but serve to worry the user and displace blame away from ms...
Thus it appears that this bug hits cautious users the hardest - as "saving early and saving often" is precisely what makes it happen. You might say "once burned, twice shy, thrice slapped in the face by microsoft."
The solution when the problem hits is to simply copy your changes since the last save (possibly paste them elsewhere), shut down MS Word, reopen it, then just paste your changes into the document, which will still be saved in its previous incarnation. If editing a document, this can be a bit more annoying as the changes might not be a paragraph or two, but rather a whole pile of little changes spread over an entire paper..." (TheMac19)
Hope that helps anyone in the future!

  • Why does a particular iCal calendar appear on Mac but not iPad?

I use several calendars within the iCal application ( personal, business, etc.)
All of those calendars sync between my Mac and iPad just fine, except one,... it's a football schedule i named 'Buckeye.'
All my calendars, including Buckeye, appear in the drop down menu on both my Mac as well as my iPad. Why won't this Buckeye calendar appear on my iPad?
    Caveat:
This Buckeye calendar happens to be a 'subscription' calendar. The others are all 'normall calendars which I key in manually.
