No longer able to save to a .PDF using Acrobat 8 Pro and any CS3 program

I spent several hours on phone with Apple and Adobe today-It seems that Snow Leopard and Anything below Acrobat Pro 9 and InD 4 are no longer compatible for exporting, printing or saving as a .PDF.  Using Acr. Pro 8 and InD CS 3  Anyone find a fix as yet?  I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
I am a MAC user for less than 2 years.  Do I have to update Adobe Suite every time it upgrades?  Very financially draining, as I am not a Graphic Artist.
Apple Tech-always wonderful-but unable to help sent me this : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
.PDF printer continues to work very well on all programs not ADOBE.
Right now my only work around is to send my InD file to a friend who had InD CS4 and ask him to save to PDF for me and sent back file!
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

PS_Adobe wants me to Pay $39 to speak with a Tech support agent-This is already a documented issue.  Not a "my MAC" issue.  I find this disturbing.

There is no necessity to upgrade your copy of Creative Suite every two years.
However, apparently you chose to upgrade your operating system version. Was there any necessity of doing that, especially doing so very quickly after it was released? For better or worse, Apple does not regard ongoing application compatibility as a requirement for their new OS releases. Thus, if you upgrade versions of MacOS, be prepared to (1) upgrade your applications as well and (2) possibly endure a period of time in which the applications don't work under the new OS version until the application vendor can re-jigger their code to deal with the upwards-incompatible OS changes.
These issues are not confined to Adobe applications, but also affect Microsoft Office and any significantly complex applications that are provided directly by Apple themselves. There is nothing we at Adobe can do about this and we like this situation no more than you do.
This is not the first time these problems of upward-incompatible OS releases have plagued users and application vendors. It took Apple until 10.5.6 to get some level of stability in the 10.5.x (Leopard) OS release so that it was reasonably usable with most third party applications, drivers, etc.
I suggest you also vent to St. Steve (the Infallible) of Cupertino!

  • How to save an edited PDF in Acrobat Pro without any compression

    Hi,
I just edited an existing PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 - actually I inserted some high resolution images in TIFF via the Touchup tool.
What do I have to do to save it without any compression of the TIFFs - I tried a lot, but the outcome is always compressed, showing artifacts.
    Thanks

First, editing PDFs is really only for minor fixups. There is generally no word wrap or such when doing such editing and often then seem to go downhill fast. To edit text, you have to have the font available. If the file was scanned and the OCR applied was searchable text, the only option to edit what is displayed is with a graphics editor, typically PhotoShop. PhotoShop allows Acrobat to have edited graphics and then be reinserted in the file (I don't do it, so can't give details). ClearScan replaces what is seen on screen in the graphic with the text. In that case, you see all of the text and the corresponding errors (often many). You may want to load a graphic (bitmap) with text showing or use a scan and try the various versions of OCR to see what I am talking about. That may help you see the options. Searchable PDFs is more useful if an original is critical, such as in the legal profession.

    Hi URT301,
Please see this document: PDF Ownership when Reader X is Installed with Acrobat. You'll find several solutions to this problem in the FAQ section.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac.  The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear.  I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

  • How can I insert an image at the original resolution into a PDF using Acrobat Pro XI

Got an image created in Photoshop at 300DPI 2480 pixels wide by xx high.  Saved as a TIFF.
When I insert that image in my PDF (A4 210mm x 297mm) using Acrobat Pro XI via "Content Editing->Add Image" it appears smaller than the page width of the PDF, and I must manually resize the inserted image by dragging with my mouse.
Documentation says the image is inserted at the original image resolution, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
Also tried creating another image in Photoshop using 210mm width @ 300 DPI (instead of 2480 pixels @ 300DPI), got the same results.
    Can anyone help?  Cheers.

You should maybe take a step back. Nobody composes pages in Acrobat.

  • How do I edit/convert a pdf using Acrobat Pro?

I am trying to convert/edit(not sure of the proper term to relay my dilemna; my experience with Acrobat Pro and pdf's is limited.) a pdf file.  I want to use edit some of the content on the document.  I am aware of the "typewriter" tool and have used this in completing pdf documents fo "fill in" the blanks (ex: completing an application); however, this will not work when I try to edit the actual content.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Keep in mind you HAVE to use very "simple" language when explaining to me how I do this, ha!
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Maybe you need to remove your PDF security so then you can edit it. Adobe Acrobat cannot edit the limited PDF files.
    Remove the PDF security
I am now using Adreamsoft PDF eidtor, With this smart PDF edit software, you can edit the text, images, annotation, layouts and pages of a PDF file. And you can also edit a PDF file by setting security password.

  • Can I covert multiple Word Documents into a single PDF using Acrobat Pro

I'm using Acrobat Pro X version 10.1.10...I'm trying to select multiple Word Document files  (Mac Version 14.4.3) but when choosing the files, Word Documents I cannot select them as a convertible file format. If I drag them into the conversion box it says they are not a recognised file format....any ideas?

Can you open any WORD file in Acrobat? If not, it is likely a limitation of Acrobat on the MAC. On the PC, you can simply use the Combine option in the file menu to create a new PDF. The conversion of the WORD document uses the PDF Maker option installed in WORD that must work, but this is the same process as opening a DOC or DOCX file directly in Acrobat. There are limitation with the compatibility of various versions of OFFICE and Acrobat that could be another issue you are having, but I don't know the combinations for a MAC. This only gives you some thoughts to consider. Some of the MAC users may be by later to give further thoughts.
The alternative is to create a PDF for each of the WORD files and then use the combine feature to combine the PDFs.

  • Word 2010x64 to PDF using Acrobat Pro XI: Print shows box with ? inside.

    System: Windows 7 SP1 X64
    Adobe: Acrobat XI Pro
    Office: Office 2010 x64
On multiple systems, I creating a document with standard text and font and then saved as or printed as a PDF. This creates a normal PDF with no visable issues. Problem arrises when printing the newly created PDF. All PDFs converted from Word print with question marks inside squares. There is no symbols evident on the Word document, created PDF or in print preview. All formatting Markups have been disabled in Word as well. Any ideas as to a work around or fix? See below images for example.
Word Document: Scan of Printed PDF:

We are having exactly the same issue as described above.
    Did this ever get answered?
    We are using:
    Acrobat 11.0.3
    Word 2010 (V 14.0.7015.1000 32-bit)
MS Office Home and Business 2010 SP2
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit
The problem seems to occur only when, in Word, we use File - Print - Printer Adobe PDF, email the resulting PDF file to another office, and then printout on a Toshiba Studio 2330c printer.
If we print the file locally to a Toshiba Studio 2550c printer then it prints ok.
It also prints ok if we, in Word we use the Acrobat tab, click Create PDF, email the resulting PDF file to another office, and then printout on the same Toshiba Studio 2330c printer.
    Any ideas?

  • Hyperlinks missing after converting Word 03 docs to PDF using Acrobat Pro 9.

I'm having an issue when I convert a Word 2003 doc using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to pdf that the hyperlinks are disappearing.  I've had success with this in the past but for some reason now the hyperlinks never carry over or show up in the pdf.  I also have a good amount of bookmarks making up a table of contents within my word doc that aren't making the conversion either.
I've spent a few hours thumbing through options in both the pdf printer and word as well as searching online with no luck.
    Kind regards,
    Tim

Alright, I've got link creation process working again.
However, now I have another technical issue with how the links are being handled.
My work has an Intranet site that these Polices and Procedures are being accessed from (http://is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/).  For some reason when you open one of these forms on our Intranet site and click one of the embedded links (that are linking to another one of the Policy and Procedure PDFs) it's adding extra text to the path. i.e. open 2.01 Employee Handbook when I click a link embedded in that form to http://is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/3.01 Technology Usage Policy it's adding an extra is-intranet to the beginning of the path http://is-intranet/is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/3.01 Technology Usage Policy causing it to not open.
I cannot seem to prevent this from happening.  Now, if I go through the form and look at the link it's correct and if re-link it to the other form everything works fine and the path of the link in the PDF doesn't change.  But now the link works correctly when opening the forms from our Intranet Site.
    It's a very confusing issue.

  • I was running a trial version of acrobat Pro then upgrade to a yearly subscription now I can't open pdf using acrobat pro?

I am redirected to a screen that says my trial has expired and sign up or register a software license.

I follow the prompts to sign in and a dialogue box shows stating my trail has expired and to buy the product.  to sign in it takes me to a screen requiring a serial number be entered for an off-the-shelf box purchase.  I have activated my subscription from the link i received via email and as a result downloaded creative cloud.

Please Help! When I try to convert to convert my .docX to pdf using Acrobat Pro X, it says file type unsupported.
When I use "save as" "pdf" in Word, it allows me to save the file as a pdf, but then the URL links in the resulting pdf will not work. They all say page not found. (The url links work in the Word document.)
I am using a Macbook pro, 10.6.8; Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac; and Acrobat Pro X
    Any help, greatly appreciated.

I'm  trying to embed a mp4 video into a pdf using Acrobat Pro XI.  When I try to play the video, all I see is a black box. The video is H.264 codec. I've tried on a PC and Mac and get the same results.

Video playback in the Acrobat Family uses Flash Player, so if it works in FP (loaded via an HTML page) then it should work in your PDF. First suggestion is to use the free MediaInfo tool to check exactly what the internal structure reports as.

Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac 2004 is no longer able to Save or Save As documents.  After clicking Save or Save As, the program ceases to respond and must be Force Quit.  Any tips on making Word functional again?

There was a second Security Update (v1.1).  Did you download that one.  It was supposed to have fixed the problems created by the prior update.  At least is solved my problems with Quicken 2007 for Mac and AppleWorks 6.
