No longer ANY way to update books in iOS 8

iBooks, if possible, has gotten worse than ever. On my iPhone, iBooks shows a red badge with the number 3 in the "Purchased" tab. That means three books have available updates. But there is no way on the iPhone to figure out what those books are. On the iPad only, in iOS 7, under purchased, it had a tab marked "updates" which indicated which books had available updates. Now that iBooks is identical on the phone and on the iPad, that tab has been removed, so there is no way on either device to see what needs updating.
On the iBooks app on my iMac, since iOS 7, when I "check for available downloads" it rarely shows any, and it has no relationship to how many are shown on the iPad or the iPhone. The iPad will show me an update but my Mac iBooks app will say there are none. So there is no way that I can see to identify the updatable books.
Also, updating a title on the iDevice and syncing it to the Mac doesn't transfer the updated copy. The only workaround was to look at the books the iPad showed as updatable, delete them on the Mac, download the updated version from the iBookstore on the Mac, and sync back to the iPad. Then, usually (but not always) the red badge number would go away.
If this sounds like a pain in the neck, I absolutely agree! I spoke to an Apple Tier 2 support specialist after iOS 7 came out and he said this was a known bug on Apple's side. I had hoped it would have been fixed by now, but not only hasn't it - it is now worse.
Has anyone figured out how to identify updatable iBooks? If so, please share your secret. I am beyond frustrated.

Gteat, you can upgrade, but the slowness is likely the try 1 GB of RAM, before you upgtade I'd strongly advise maxing the RAM to 6GB...

You could with more RAM & enough fre Disk s[ace update to 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, or the free 10.9, but first you need get 10.6 to go further, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9 Installer.

I think basically the answer is no, and even if you could I don't think it would help you much. A virtual machine error is exactly that, an error in the VM, not your code. The only thing I can suggest is that, if you want to see if your app is falling over in the same place every time, you use something like log4j.

A similar situation related to Bank files was resolved with one of my clients on the following way...
The file from the Vendor can be an any order or format on the Excel. Till the time it is consistant it should work fine..
We created a Job in SQL Server to read this Excel file and to use the DocNum to get the DocEntry from SAP PO and output another excel file which is exactly the template format for PO Update.
This may even not be required in your case.....
You can get this done through an Excel Macro....which will connect to the database and using the DocNum get the DocEntry and update the Excel....
This is 100% achievable and a better solution for regular use

First of all it is not at all possible that you have added something to user exit for sales order and that is affecting billing.
While billing try
USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMP
instead of USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMK.
Also, you need to sit with the SD functional person to check and decide upon what config is to be adopted in copy controls for pricing type. In case you wish to do everything through the user exit then std controls need to be set in a way that whatever is in sales order should come up in billing, inclusive of manual conditions unchanged.
In case of short dump issues, the code is not written at the right place. Before your code write
break-point
which will give you an idea of what is happening at runtime while creating billing document in debugging mode.

If it's a G4, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay; Apple still might have copies in stock if you phone them.

The Early 2008 MacBook can only go up to Lion...the compatibility requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are the same http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ which says Late 2008 MacBook.

No, you cannot downgrade your iOS device. That's not supported by Apple.
