"No longer authorized" message... again...

Using iTunes f/Win on Win8, latest release of iTunes...
OK, so, I plug in my iPod again this morning to re-sync it with fresh podcast downloads, and suddenly iTunes says it's "no longer authorized for this computer".  I've NEVER plugged this iPod into any other machine of any kind with any version of iTunes whatsoever.  So I let it authorize the iPod for iTunes on this machine.   I log onto the Store, check my account, and it says it's now authorized for 5 out of 5 machines.  I don't even OWN five machines.  When I bought my iPod a few weeks ago, it said three.  So overnight, it's suddenly at 5 computers.  Can't check the machines that are authorized under my account, as the only option is to De-auth All Machines.  Did so, re-auth'd this machine, and continued on my way.
So the question is this: I've seen this problem a couple times a year, on my machines and on machines of people at work (iPhones, iPads, etc).  Out of the blue, suddenly iTunes says there's authorization issues, or it refuses to sync something.  How can this problem be prevented (yes, I'm taking the high road and not mentioned the bugs that have been in iTunes for YEARS)?  And no, uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, then restoring Libraries (if backups are made) isn't an option, especially on work machines.  Is there an alternative to iTunes yet?  Problems with iTunes are the single reason I don't recommend Apple products, and if my Zune hadn't died after 5 years of flawless functionality, I wouldn't have bought an iPod.
Suggestions beyond uinstall/reinstall?  Is there a bug forum where people can help each other with work-arounds to iTunes problems/bugs?

Start iTunes on Mavericks, and select iTunes Store from the left nav panel. Provide your AppleID and password. Once signed in, select App Store from the top iTunes menu bar. Select the iPhone tab, and then under All Categories, you will see a bunch of Quick Links. Choose Apps Made by Apple, and then Pages. Once the IOS Pages is downloaded, you would then select your iPhone name from the DEVICES nav location, and Sync.
Don't forget to sign out of iTunes.

    It's probably because you are trying to sync apps or songs that were downloaded with your Husbands account.  If you right click (Windows) or Control+click (Mac) and select Get Info it will display what acount it was downloaded under.
    If it was downloaded with your Husbands Apple ID, you won't be able to sync it to your device without entering his password.

    I have a brand new iPad 64GB that I can't sync to my existing iTunes library.  Every time I try, I get an error that says, "The iPad could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPad."  In iTunes, I go to Store > Authorize This Computer, and that dialog says that my computer is already authorized.  Then I try to sync again and end up with the "no longer authorized" error again.
    So what is in the default load of a new iPad that iTunes doesn't think I've paid for?
    The same iTunes (for Windows, version 11.1.5.5)  has no trouble syncing my iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and several Shuffles. So why is it barfing on the iPad?

    Also, I purchased a song from iTunes store and while it shows in my library on the PC, it won't download to the iPod.  Why won't the new song download to the iPod?
    Any ideas. suggestions?

    No. You must purchase them under your Apple ID. Anything purchased under someone else's Apple ID will present this same issue. You cannot share items in this way.
    Give the above see the following:
    Sharing Stuff From Different iTunes Accounts (or Computers)
    Here's how to do so using different computers:
    Transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library on each computer. To transfer content from your library to another library do the following. We'll assume this is between husband and wife separate accounts and different Apple IDs.
    Launch iTunes under your wife's login;
    Sign her out of iTunes, then you sign in;
    Select iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices -> Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected;
    Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC;
    Select Store -> Authorize this Computer (only have to do this once);
    Select File -> Transfer Purchases (all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library);
    When complete eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
    You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
    This way you can share content (permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same on your computer if you want to share content from your wife's library.
    Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

    The iPad is fine.  But the computer you're syncing with needs to be authorised with the Apple ID that was used to buy the material on the iPad.  You do this by picking the 'Authorize' item from the menu in iTunes and entering the account name and password.

    You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. Changing the Apple ID given completely defeats the entire purpose.
    If you don't know the password to the given Apple ID, then you will no longer be able to play those items.

    I found the solution in another post.  By deleting all my apps, I was able to sync the phone.  I hope I don't have to delete all my apps every time I want to sync my phone, but at least now I am able to sync my phone.

    Me too...this is stupid, stupid, stupid. Just purchased my 200 (ish) mac and now I am told that my new Mac Book pro is not "authorized".
    Which if my 200 macs are authorized. Can someone please tell me???

    Go up to the top of your screen on iTunes and click on 'Store'.  Then go down to 'Authorize This Computer'.  That should cover part of it unless you've already authorized a bunch of other computers to use your account.  If that's the case, you'll have to go to one of those computers and click the button just below it to 'deauthorize your account' from that computer.  If you're not able to access the store, check your internet connection to make sure you are connected.  Hope this helps.. good luck!
