No longer have computer ipod is synced to

No longer have computer my original iPod was synced to. Is there a way to sync to a new computer without losing all the non-iTunes music?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
- Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.

I have one ipod shuffle synced in itunes on my computer but it won't even recognize a second ipod

Is the second iPod also a shuffle, or is it a "big" iPod?  If they are both shuffles, what are the two shuffle types?  This document shows the four types of shuffles.

If you have access to your old laptop (and it's still working), ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC.  If you can and want to do it that way, please post back.
Otherwise, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.

no longer have old pc, will syncing to new pc lose my data

The shuffle is not a backup device.
Was the media actually moved from the old computer to the new computer? If not, how did you magically make the content appear on the new system?
Use the backup of the old computer to put all the content on the new computer.

  • Deauthorize a Computer on Ipod - No longer have computer

How do I deauthorize a couple of computers on my son's ipod nano if I no longer have the computer to hook in to? The computers bit the dust I need to deauthorize the Ipod. Will this work same for daughters ipod shuffle.
I tried to do it on new computer but I am only getting the option to deauthorize the computer that I just authorized.

You can't authorize or deauthorize anything on the ipod. Authorization is not for ipods, it is for computers. The ipod is linked to the computer it last synced with.

    Hi Michela27,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you have content on your iPhone that isn't on your computer, the best thing is to use the advice in this article to transfer it to your new computer before setting up sync:

  • How to remove history on ipod when i no longer have the ipod

Hi so i recently gave my nephew my ipod touch while after thinking about it i really dont want him to be able to download anything with my credit card number is there any way i can remove it even though its no longer in my possen?

Restore it. You can either do this with iTunes. Connect it and then click "Restore". Or wipe it from the Settings app on iPod directly. If you no longer have access to the iPod, you could also wipe with the iCloud "Find My iPod" Feature. But that feature has to be enabled in Settings --> iCloud and the iPod needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  • How do I deactivate CS2 Premium software when I no longer have computer?

How can I deactivate the license for CS2 Premium software for a computer I no longer have, so I can install on my current computer?

Deactivation is no longer available for CS2 or earlier since Adobe decommissioned the CS2 activation server a couple of years ago.
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
On your new computer, download the new non-activation CS2 from the above link and enter the new serial number provided at that link. Your existing CS2 serial number will no longer work.
PS This will only work for Windows. CS2 will not install or run on modern Macs since the PowerPC code it is written in is incompatible with Intel processors.

  • I have a sync account, but on my PC I no longer have to option to sync - only to create a new account, but my laptop will sync

I have a sync account, but when I came to sync data on my PC today, I was only given the option to create a new account. I tried this, but it said my email address was already in use. I can sync on my laptop which is linked to my PC.

Sounds that you have already created a Sync account.
Enter all details like the account name (email address) and password and the 26-character Sync key manually to connect to an existing sync account instead of using the 12-character code to pair a device if pairing isn't possible.
    # open "Tools > Options > Sync" or "Firefox > Set Up Sync"
    # click "Set Up Firefox Sync" to go to "Firefox Sync Setup"
    # click "I Have an Account" : Connect
    # click "I don't have the device with me" at the bottom to enter the account settings (email, password, sync key)
Reset Lost or Forgotten Password or delete sync account:

  • My iPod touch is disabled but I no longer have a laptop to sync to - how do I fix it

My iPod touch is disabled but I no longer own a computer to sync it with - is there another way it can be fixed

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Also:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

  • Changing song order in playlists - changes no longer show on ipod until sync

I organize my playlists according to how I rate songs; songs with higher ratings go at the top. When the last operating system came out there was a glitch where on the iPod (but not in iTunes) songs were ordered inversely, ie. songs with higher ratings were stuck at the bottom. This was annoying, but one bonus was that when rating songs on the iPod, the position of the song would change automatically. For example, if Song A had two stars but I changed the rating to 3 stars on my iPod, Song A would immediately move and join the other 3-star songs. The changes would then be tranferred to iTunes upon syncing my device.
Now, after having updated iTunes, the playlists are in the correct hierarchical order, but I can't seem to immediately change the order of songs in playlists according to their ratings. Instead, I have to rate the song and sync my device for it to change in iTunes, and then sync my iPod again to have the playlist updated on the iPod itself. This isn't a big deal, but I enjoyed the ability to instantaneously alter my playlists based on the song ratings. Am I missing something? Any advice?

What did you do when you " i recently added iCLOUD service "?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
