No longer receiving iMessages

How frustrating is it to find out that a good half of your clients hasn't been able to get in touch with you via texts for a few weeks?
Very.
Text messages MUST go through every time, or at least report an error message when not delivered.
Instead, all of my clients were convinced that I was a jerk for not responding.
Mind you, MY iMessages were going through fine, every time.  It's just that every response I got never made it to my phone.
I eventually caught on, and shut off iMessage, as I was hoping it would propagate through the system that I no longer use it.
But it didn't.  They still were trying to send me iMessages, and those weren't going through, and they were not getting any error reports.
So I eventually caught on to that as well, and changed my email under my iMessage account.
And guess what.  Still not going through to me.
My ultimate fix, which worked, was going to Settings - Messages - Send and Receive - and unchecking the check marks next to all of the email addresses, so that JUST my phone number had a check next to it.  That SEEMS to have fixed it.  I now get messages from a few people who informed me they couldn't send me text before (because I didn't reply to them).
But how can I be SURE that every iMessage gets through to me?
And why can't I shut iMessage off, to JUST use text messaging?  When I do that, it still allows my clients to send me iMessages without any error reports, and I just never get them.
This is incredibly frustrating for a business owner, one of my biggest fear always is offending my clients, and not replying to their messages has to be up there.
Text messages just need to work.  Period.  Every time.  This could be my girlfriend trying to reach out to me because she's in danger.  Or someone asking me to come see my dying grandmother before she passes away.
Please please please fix this annoying iMessage inconsistency Apple.  I am not the first one to ask for that.
Sincerely,
Z.

If someone was in dire need, I would assume the last thing they would do is text you, when they should be calling you instead.
You mention you went into send and receive and unchecked all of the email address - how many did you have in there?  The only email address you need is your apple id.

  • IPhone with iOS 6 no longer receives iMessages (SMS only)

I'm working with a friend who's having an odd issue with his iPhone (iOS 6).  I used to be able to use iMessage to reach him via his phone number, but now I see an error when I use that same number:  "+1 (xxx) xxx-xxx is not registered with iMessage."
We've verified that Messages is turned on and enabled on the phone.  The phone number is listed as a valid channel (alongside his iCloud e-mail) for iMessages.  We've reset the phone.  Turned Messages on and off.  Nothing seems to re-enable Messasges to his phone number.
If I send a Message via my iPhone to his, it is always an SMS.
If I send a Message to him via his iCloud e-mail, it is always an iMessage and arrives on both iPhone and computer.
I'm really puzzled and I think we've tried everything in the support documents so I was wondering if there's something else we should tackle?

    Hi Friend,
iMessages and Facetime are not available in some countries, so please check it first.
Be sure you do not turn on Restrictions in your device.
Try to unsign and sign in again.
For FaceTime and iMessage chosse to use your email address instead of your mobile number.
Go to Settings>>Message>>Send&Receive and set your email address.
If it is still not working, unsign your Apple ID and select your mobile number ("+" "country code" "mobile number")
Go to www.apple.com or Settings>>iCloud then access your Apple ID. There you can edit your information, placing your phone number and tap OK. then go to iMessage settings and mark your phone number to receive iMessages.
Also check in: Settings>>Message if you turned on iMessage before. Here, turn off "Show Subject Field".
Change your address for your currently location. If not works, change it for your native country.
Did you turn on iCloud as well?
Reset the Network Setting, which makes your phone to forget every networks and passwords that you connected your phone to.
to reset the Network Settings just go to Settings - General - Reset (at the bottom) - Reset Network Settings.
I remember when I reset the Network Settings, i turned off iMessages. I connected to my home Wi-Fi and surfed the web for a little while. Sent some regular SMS messages, and about 10min later, I turned on iMessages again and sent a text to a friend with an iPhone and it started working as iMessage! Baloons finally became blue.
    Hope it helps

  • IPhone 4S 5.0.1 update worsened battery and no long receiving iMessages, anyone else?

Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm having the same issue, since the 5.1 update.  Apple has even gone as far as replacing my phone with a brand new one because it's like I'm experiencing hardware issues but I'm not.  Apple did a diagnostics today on my phone, said everything was fine and I had to go to my Carrier which I did and they of course said nothing wrong.  I'm not to sure how to escalate the problem to apple to look at the 5.1 software but I believe its a error with the software update

Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone.  If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!!   And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

Hi. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS7 and no data plan. When I am not connect to wifi I don't receive iMessages, but then when I do connect to wifi I get the messages telling me they were sent earlier.  Is there any thing I can do to fix it?  I don't remember how long this has been happening but it is very frustrating. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!!!

If you don't have a cellular data plan, then why are you expecting that you will have an active internet connection unless you are connected to wi-fi?
iMessages require either wi-fi or a cellular data connection.

    Hello,
Where may I be able to contact and speak with a prepaid representative? Strictly through phone calls? (I am at work 12 hours a day)
And I apologize for posting in the wrong area - I saw Apple support so I went here.
I'm almost certain my phone is the problem. I have gone through resetting the network settings a dozen times on my phone, even did it on my dad's. Now my texts are beginning to do the same when I text my fiance.
Resetting the network settings DOES work -- the problem is it will work for a day or two or for only a few hours - then I'll have to do it all over again.

The problem is that i no longer have that Ipad but my ex girlfriend does and we no longer communicate. How do i receive Imessage on MY PHONE ONLY or delete other devices not in my possession from my messages?

You need to change your Apple ID password.  You could login to Find My iPhone and wipe that iPad if you felt the need to do so.

  • Having to switch off my Iphone just to get a connection to the internet and also receive Imessages

    Hi all,
I have recently updated my Iphone 5 to the Iphone 6 in the hope that it would eliviate some of my problems with the Iphone 5, thinking maybe it could be a problem with the phone...alas still the same problem!
Basically I can connect to the internet via Safari or even use App's that require an internet connection for a few times in a day, however after about a third of fourth time of using it I can no longer connect.  The only way I can fix the problem is having to switch my Iphone off and on again, then it finally works! I am having to do this now several times a day most days.  I am also having delays in sending and receiving Imessages, some are taking up to a day to be received even though showing as sent on the senders phone.  Likewise when I switch the Iphone off the messages come through....Its exactly the same with my Iphone 6 which is two days old! Help!!
    Thank you

It the problems that you are seeing are ones that you had on an iPhone 5 and they followed you to the iPhone 6, I would believe there is something wrong with the backup of your old device. Did you restore the new phone from the backup of the old device? Try restoring the phone as new and then test it before adding any content back. If the phone works correctly, then there is corrupt data in your backup. Rather than restore to the backup, just sync your data back to the device individually.

  • IPad 2 stopped receiving iMessages sent to my phone number

I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S. When I got the iPad, I was able to sync it with my iPhone just fine. It was sending and receiving iMessages that were directed to my iPhone phone number, and the messages on the two devices were syncing perfectly, all the time.
Then about a week ago, my iPad stopped receiving iMessages that were sent to my iPhone. When I look at the iMessage settings on the iPad, my phone number is no longer listed under the "send and receive" area.
The only troubleshooting I have tried so far is turning iMessage off and then back on on the iPad, and rebooting it. That hasn't worked...any other suggestions?

I would sign out of iMessage on your iPad and make sure its signed back in with the same apple id that you are using on your iPhone, if still does not show on iPad try doing the same steps on the iPhone. Also this article should give you a few other steps in troubleshooting iMessage http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268

  • If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I'm correct, as long as someone is logged into your Apple ID, they can receive your messages. If you think someone else is using your Apple ID, change your password.

  • Can i still receive iMessage in  my ipad after switching my iphone to Galaxy s4?

I have had an iphone for the past 3 years but my company is changing my iphone to Galaxy s4. I have a lot of friends using iphone so i use imessaging a lot and i know i cannot receive imessage in my galaxy s4. I will still have my old ipad using my apple id so i would like to know if i can still receive my iMessages in my ipad. thanks for any help in advance.

Interestign... not sure if the phone # will somehow evaporate off your iPad once you cutover.
No matter what though, your friends could always iMessage you at your AppleID instead of with your phone # and that would still work as long as you enabled the ID on your iPad.

  • Cannot send or receive imessage

I used iPhone 5s, just after I update to iOS 8.1.2, I can no longer receive or send iMessage, all the number is my phone are grayed out. I tried to reset everything in my phone, didn't work.

  • Cannot receive iMessages on iPhone

I have an iPhone with iOS 8.1.2 and a MacBook Pro (OSX Yosemite). My problem is the following: I cannot receive iMessages on my iPhone. However, if I send iMessages from my iPhone or Mac, they are received normally and I do receive iMessages on my Mac. The behaviour for text messages (SMS) is normal. Moreover, when somebody (including myself) sends me iMessages, I can see the three dots that appear when somebody is typing long after they stop typing and for a longer period of time.
In order to fix my issues I tried the following:
    deactivate and reactivate iMessages
deactivate text forwarding to my MacBook
    restarted iPhone
reset network settings on my iPhone
reset all settings on my iPhone
    delete conversations and users
removed and re-added Send & Receive addresses
    Erase all content and settings
Out of these options only the last worked but only as long as I didn't restore the backup. As soon as I restored the last backup, the problem came back. I cannot figure out whether this is an issue with my iMessage setting on the iPhone, iCloud settings or something else.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem and have my content & settings back?

My problem was suddenly fixed with no action on my behalf.
