No longer safe to remove iPod after updating (synching)

I'm using iTunes 7 on XP Pro. AMD Athlon 64. 4G 60-gig iPod (color).
"Enable Disk Use" is NOT checked, but my iPod now shows up as a Removable Disk in XP. And after synching, iTunes says "iPod update is complete" but no longer tells me it's safe to remove my iPod.
Yes, I can manually eject the iPod, but that's a bit of a pain. I'd rather just grab it and go. Any ideas?
(Please don't tell me, here in the WINDOWS forum, that buying a Mac will solve all my problems. Another answer like that will send me into the nearest clock tower.)

Well, I believe you should keep it because you may need it later.
Try to delete other files on your computer, or backup some of the data to CD-R, DVDR or external hard drive and then remove them.

  • Itunes not recognizing 7th gen iPod after updating to windows 8.1 and latest itunes, works on other computers

So I updated my computer to 8.1 I don't know if I synced my ipod after that, but I know immediately after updating iTunes, I began to receive an error message saying iTunes recognizes that I connected an iPod, but can't identify properly.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as restarting the computer, trying different USB ports. it works when I connect it to other computers.

  • Podcasts fail to show on iPod after updating to iTunes 10.1.0.56

    Hi,
I'm using a 5th gen iPod classic. When I updated iTunes to version 10.1.0.56, all the podcasts I downloaded from iTunes after the update failed to show up on my iPod after synching. I've downloaded podcasts before and had them show up on my iPod. Is there a different procedure I don't know about?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello msapostol,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You may want to double check your iPod's Sync settings for podcasts from under your iPod's Podcasts tab in iTunes while it is connected.
Updates to iTunes or your iPod has known to reconfigure certain settings.

  • Itunes does not recognise the ipod after update to itunes 8.2.0.23

Hi, Now find, after putting new songs in my play list, that when I plug in ipod to update songs on ipod itunes does not recognise the ipod.
The version of iTunes I updated to was 8.2.0.23 - everything worked fine until then. I see there is a newer version 8.2.1 now available - do you think by installing this the "unable to recognise" problem would be fixed???
    Thanks for your thoughts!

I have a similar problem with the iPhone. Tried everything you can think of and then some. There is apparently some devastating bug 7.6 introduced into normal USB device recognition. I've been able to force the phone into recovery mode; the boot recovery USB driver does still work. Restoring the phone every time I need to sync is both scary and time-consuming.

  • My wifi no longer works in my iPod after it got wet

Does anyone have an answer to this.  I have already rebooted, Wiped clean the iPod and updated the software.

If you go to a Genius Bar at an Apple Store they should be able to offer you an out of warranty swap. I don't know how much replacing the iPod will cost.

  • PC won't recognise ipod after updating iTunes

I have just updated iTunes to the latest version for Windows, and spent some time getting it to work again - I had to reinstall Quicktime (version 7) before iTunes would open. The new version would not recognise my iPod, so I downloaded the latest iPod updater 2005 11 17 and ran that.
The dialogue box asks me to "plug in the iPod to update it", but when I do it just sits there. The iPod remains in "do not disconnect" mode, nothing happens for a while and then the entire system crashes to a blue screen that explains that Windows has shut down...
The iPod is about 2 years old and one of the 40GB models with a plain wheel and the four buttons across the top.
Can any kind person give me a pointer what to do next?
    Thanks

  • Safe to remove ipod updater?

I am using iTunes 5.01 with a new 20 GB iPod on a PC and all is working just fine after installation. But, as I am very short on disk space on my computer, I would like to uninstall the iPod updater. Is this safe to do? Is there any reason to keep it on my PC?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Cannot sync iPod after updating to 10.4.1 for windows. Help?

I recently updated to iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows 7 on my PC and now I can no longer sync my iPod. Once it starts syncing music, I get an error message that says "iTunes Has Stopped Working" and it does not give me any kind of resolution to the problem. I have uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and all other Apple software from my computer but I'm still running into the same issues after I've reinstalled everything. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can resolve the issue? I've researched the issue and it seems like a lot of people are running into this and I haven't found any kind of universal fix yet.
    Thanks

Upgraded to iTunes 10.5 and it syncs fine now so if anyone else is having the problem, that's the only solution I've found out there.
PS - Posting on these forums appears to be pretty useless!

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod after update

I got a 40G color photo ipod froma friend and had it restored, plugged it in, added my music, unplugged it, and used it just fine. I went to plug it back in to add a few more things and it was not recognized by iTunes. The autoplay window came up and then the iPod installer said I had to restore the iPod- which I did. Then I reinstalled my music, unplugged it, and it worked fine. Then I plugged it back in and the same thing happened. I went to the apple store and they restored it again and ran diagnostics on it. It seems to be just fine. I got it home. plugged it back in to my laptop, added my music, and it worked fine. Then I unplugged it and it messed up again.
You can see the frustrating cycle that I find myself in. Here are the things that I have noticed:
When I stop the update partway through, disconnect and then reconnect, it seems to be fine. Once the update is finished and the iPod is disconnected and reconnected, it seems to never work properly.
Also, it seems that when it is working properly, when I open the safely remove hardware window, the iPod is recognized as an iPod. It reads:
    USB mass storage device
    Apple iPod USB device
When it is not being recognized, I open the safely remove hardware window, and it says:
    USB mass storage device
    Generic volume - (E:)
    Apple iPod USB device
    Could this be the problem?
iPod 40G color photo   Windows XP Pro

B- I plugged in my iPod again this morning and got the same autoplay window- and no recognition. I went in to change the drive letter of the iPod following the instructions on the link you gave me. When I pull up the disk management window, I see 2 disks listed: (C:) and (E:), but it does not say IPOD like the picture does on the help page. Should I change the drive letter anyway? Does this mean that it's not recognized as an iPod? Thanks for your help...
Also, about 3-5 minutes after the autoplay window comes up, I get an "iPod not readable" message that instructs me to open the iPod updater to restore my iPod- which I've done 5 times already.

  • Cannot eject Ipod after updating to 5.0

I've never had trouble with ejecting until just updating to 5.0. I get the message, "the Ipod 'ipod' cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." Now the new music on my desktop won't go to the Ipod. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My problems on an iMac G5 running Tiger started 9/21 when I upgraded to iTunes 5.0.1. (Prior to that there were problems mounting the iPod if I waited too long after turning on the computer, iTunes 5.0).
On 9/21 iPod mounted but would not sync nor eject. Strangely, on 9/22 iPod synchronized and ejected; but on 9/26 it would not sync even though iTunes said it had. And then it would not eject, giving error messages to the effect that the iPod or its files were in use by antoher application.
9/27 I plugged the iPod into a Powerbook running Panther... no mounting problems... no ejection problems.
The iPod is third generation with version 2.3 software... connected by firewire.
I need help also... I am concluding that the problem lies in either the computer, Tiger or iTunes. But how to fix?

  • Synching an Ipod after updating

I was prompted to update Itunes, and downloaded the suggested files. It was running just fine, but once I hooked the Ipod up to my computer, it wasn't acknowledging/updating the Ipod at all.
I've never had trouble before, although I have seen similar recognition problems when a foreign Ipod is plugged into a PC with a foreign Itunes library.
I've tried 5-6 times now, and after approximately 20 minutes of attempting to 'synch,' itunes sort of shrugs me off with a definitive 'whelp, we give up.'
    Anyone? Thanks.

    Hi srda310,
So resuming, you want to transfer your iTunes library located on your iPod to the new computer, isn't it? If so, read this:
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

  • Removed files after update?

basically, i had a few video files on my ipod. i watched two of them(not all), and after my next ipod update from my itunes library, the 2 video files i had viewed were removed from my ipod, but all unwatched ones were still there and working. is there any option that would cause this?

Connect your iPod, then when the summary screen appears click on the TV movies tab.
You may have set your iPod to sync only unwatched.

  • No longer connects to Windows 7 after update

I selected update a couple of days ago (March 26) and my phone updated. Now, it won't connect via USB to any of my Windows 7 computers. In my Device Manager, my portable devices shows a warning symbol on the MTP Device. Removing the driver and allowing the MTP driver to reinstall doesn't work. This happens on the two Windows 7 computers (one is ultimate) I have. MediaSync on my phone says it didn't connect and shows a red exclamation mark in notifications and asks if I want to try again. I try again, and the Media Sync symbol disappears but my phone still isn't connected.
Any suggestions on how to solve? (Is there some where in the phone that I make sure MediaSync acts as a drive when plugged into USB?)
Any apps that will allow me to bypass the problem?
    Thanks,

I also can't get the media sync to connect after the update. I can get the mass storage to work with no issue, but media sync is having issues.
Every time I connect with media sync, Windows 7 pops up a message stating that the driver failed to load and to contact Samsung. So I contacted Samsung support, which was completely useless.
I need the media sync to work because that's the only way I've found to get DRM-protected media files to transfer properly to my Charge. If I copy them to my phone while in mass storage mode, I can't play them because there is a licensing error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
