No Longer Syncing to .Mac

Thanks for reading this.
I'm a fairly decent techie, so I'm only posting this after exhaustive research and countless attempts at a solution.
For starters I'm running 10.3.9 and iSync 1.5
(Yes, yes, I want to upgrade to tiger, but I'm in the middle of a Final Cut Project, so I hope you can respect that.)
After a failed Sync session, a re-Sync hung up on "...Calendars and To Do Items" of the time bar. I had to force quit. (This I know creates all kinds of problems.)
iSync will automatically try to continue syncing if you restart the program. So after an OS restart, I delete my devices and try and reset my .Mac sync. (reset .Mac files and use the info from this computer).
Same hang up. Restart.
(Read through the discussion board for clues...)
Delete possible corrupt iSync files - User>Library>Application Support>ISync
and it's plist files.
I open iSync. I unregister my computer. I close iSync. I take my sign in name and password out of my .Mac System prefs. Close it. Restart the OS.
Enter my info into my .Mac prefs (yes, my iDisk does connect and work)
Open ISync, register my computer, choose sync for first time using info from my computer.
Same hang up. Restart.
Delete and reinstall iSync and then the same process as above.
Same hang up.
Near as I can tell. It's either a file it can't overwrite in my .Mac iSync folder
(IDisk>library>Application Support>SyncServices) (which I fear deleting for some reason...
OR
A corrupt iCal file (the program and the Calendar work fine).
Suggestions? I need to sync (for safety, as well as my phone, on a daily basis)
I'm a freelancer and am constantly updating my calendar and info.
Much appreciated (in advance) for your brain cell usage.
Dario

Phyllis,
For your problem, I would recomend what some other posting suggested.
Go to your System Preferences control panel in your Dock, choose your .Mac account. Remove your name and password. Quit/Close the System Preferences control panel. Re Open the System Preferences control panel and re enter your info. That should kickstart your connection. If that doesn't work try the same process but RESTART your computer in betweeen closing and opening the System Preferences control panel. Good luck.

Why not upgrade to Snow Leopard, if you can?
NO. There is no way to downgrade your iPhone OS back to iOS6. Apple makes downgrades of their mobile OS not possible.
If you can, the only thing you can do is upgrade your Mac's OS X operating system.

  • Bookmarks no longer syncing via .Mac

I have noticed that my Safari bookmarks are no longer syncing between my Macs using .Mac. (Every other type of item is syncing ok, i.e. iCal etc)
This MAY have started since v3.1 was installed, but I have no proof of that.
    Anyone else noticed this?
    TIA
    Mark

Okay, I did a little more investigation into this issue.
First, if you have not already read this thread, I suggest you do so: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1448192&tstart=15
Although the particular issue discussed in this thread is a problem with the Sync Server crashing, there are a few interesting insights.
I tried one of the suggestions from that thread. To see if normal syncing behavior could be reestablished, I deleted my current bookmarks, synced to .Mac, then copied back my original Bookmarks.plist file and synced again.
I did this process on two of my machines. Of course, I first backed up my Safari Bookmarks.plist file on each of my Macs. The result, no change in syncing behavior. Although my original bookmarks were repaired by copying them back, the process did not restore normal syncing behavior between the two Macs.
.Mac syncing of bookmarks still has no affect. The bookmarks remain unchanged between both Macs even though they should be merging their respective data.

  • Palm Tungsten E No Longer Sync with Macs

I have a Palm Tungsten E (OS 4.5.1P) that no longer Sync's to my two Macintosh computers with OS 10.5.8 but still works fine with my PC computer. That's to say the Macintosh computers won't even acknowledge that I'm trying to sync and via versa that the Tungsten doesn't see the Mac's trying to sync. It's like I have no USB cable attached (which is how I have always synchronized it).
In trouble shooting, I've found that my Palm Zire 72 (OS 4.5.2P) will sync flawlessly with all these computers. What did I change?! Nothing I think. Help please.

Have you done a restart on the Mac's? Also on the device? Also have you tried a different sync cable?

  • ICal no longer syncing with .Mac between Leopard and previous OS

    hi,
Two Mac's, both new-ish. When I had the previous OS running on both, my iCal syncing worked great through .Mac. However, I have recently upgraded to Leopard on just one of these machines. Now, the machine with the previous OS will not sync to the one running Leopard, however, the Leopard one will sync to the other one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!

I was having the same problems you describe and after trying suggestions from a variety of posts in the discussion forum, here's what worked for me because simply unregistering and resetting sync data didn't solve the problem.
While I'm sure a few steps could be left out, what seemed to make all the difference was
    a. getting rid of groups of calendars and
    b. not simply reseting the data but deleting and reimporting it from the "master" computer
    1. I made sure one of my computers had complete and updated calendars (the iBook running 10.5.1)
    2. I had clustered my calendars into sub-groups, so I ditched that level of organization so everything was on the same level and created a backup database (thus my iBook became my "master")
    3. I exported each of my calendars individually (i.e. "Home.ics" "Work.ics" etc.)
    4. On the Mini (running 10.4.11), I deleted all my calendars (except for my subscriptions) and unregistered the Mini from .Mac syncing
    5. I imported each of the calendar from the iBook into iCal on my Mini so that I had the same data on both computers
    6. After restarting both machines for good measure, I reset the iCal sync data on .Mac using the info on my iBook, then registered my Mini, and reset the iCal using data from .Mac to overwrite the Mini
    7. I rebooted again, set up test events (in different calendars) on each computer, synchronized, and voila!

  • Ical no longer syncs with isync or .mac

Ical on my PowerBook G4 no longer syncs with .mac or via isync. When I open ical, none of the events on the calendars display. After moving between "month" and "week" I can get the events to display. When I sync, I receive a window saying " Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to iCal: device is not available." This is not the same as the message normally received when an external device such as an ipod is not connected. Bookmarks and Address Book are synchronizing without problem. Anybody out there experienced something similar? I have tried throwing away the ical preferences .plist from the library but that has not helped.

I don't have Panther available anymore so I'm shooting in the dark. You might try to stop syncing and then turn syncing back on (the idea is to break the connection and start new) Be sure to have a backup of anything you can't lose.
You might also try trashing iSync preferences.

  • Outlook 2011 for mac no longer syncs with calendar and contacts

    Hi all,
Not sure whether the recent security update botched up my sync, but after recently upgrading to MS Office with Outlook 2011 for the Mac, my contacts and calendar items no longer sync.  I've applied the revised security patch to no avail.  In fact, I noticed that my contacts were no longer syncing prior to the security update, and in the last day or so, I have noticed that calendar items have ceased to sync.  I've tried all of the Microsoft and Apple knowledge-based recipes to correct the problem, but it persists.  I may be missing something, or performed the steps out of sequence, but I've tried them many times and I'm sure at least once was to the letter.
The oddity is that the problem appears to be a broken link between iCal and Outlook via the sync process, which uses MobileMe and is administered through iTunes.  Perhaps someone has a straightforward instruction set to fix that link?
Is anyone else having this problem of late?  I am on Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 on a 2011 MBP with MS Office 2011 and SP1 installed.
Thanks much in advance for any helpful advice.

Thanks Julian for the suggestion. Unfortunately all still checked out and nothing amiss. However, after reinstalling OS 10.6.8 it appears that my calendar items are syncing once again, but not my contacts. I appreciate the suggestion none the less.
This same thing seems to happen each time I've upgraded Office with the associated version of Entourage, and now Outlook. Ah, well..nothing's ever simple. But I am thoroughly enjoying Outlook and the rest of the Office suite.

My iTunes library will no longer sync to my iPhone or iPad, nor will it play from my Mac. My Library is on my external HD. iTunes is correctly looking to the HD as its library. Please help...

Guys, I found another user and what he said to do worked!!! I have copied the information below:
This was 1 of the things that happend to me too, the other one was that at the bottom of the itunes page were it says all the memory info, it marked that I had over 3gb of other memory wich I didn't.
Anyways what I did was to unmark the calendar, contacts etc. ( so that they wont sync with the computer ), pressed apply,  then I marked all of them again, apply again and for last I pressed Sync wich is at the bottom right coner by the apply botton.
I'm not sure that had anything to do with it but it worked, my music appeard both of my itunes playlists and the ones I bought in itunes.  Also the other memory dissapeard and it's all good.
I'm not sure this will help you but thats my 5 cents, if the problem continues its better to call customer service and ask for a technician.
Hope your problem gets solved. Have a nice day.

  • Iphone will no longer sync to my power mac

The latest version of iTunes will not install on my mac since I have a PowerPC G5 and OSX 10.5.8.  But now my iPhone 4 (and I have already ordered an iPhone 5) will no longer sync!
How can I now sync / put music on and off of my iPhone?

Buy a new, refurbished, or secondhand Intel Mac. While iTunes 10.6.3 can sync the iPhone 4 from a PowerPC Mac, the iPhone 5 absolutely requires Mac OS X 10.6.8, which requires an Intel Mac.

  • ICal will no longer sync with macmini still syncs with iPhone, iPod and another mac...what happened?

iCal will no longer sync with wife's mac mini.  It works with our iPhone, iPod and and older  G5 tower.  I am using an iMac.   Nothing shows up on the mobile me calendar in her office.  I have been unable to get the shared calendar to open on her machine.  All had been well until yesterday.
    Thanks for any help.

I did restore from back-up as well. And I had thought of restoring my iPod to factory settings however...I just got my mother-in-law's old iPhone 3GS. Upon getting it from her I restored it to factory settings. After having the problems tonight syncing my iPod to iTunes I tried syncing the iPhone. It started out fine, showing it as a new device and setting it up. It shows both devices on my iTunes and then when I went to sync it I got the error message that none of the songs could be copied from my iTunes because they could not be found. But they all clearly show up in my iTunes. I had done this before when I was having the issue with my books and then I had deleted them all from iTunes and readded a few that I wanted to put on my iPod and it still wouldn't sync them. So I really don't want to take absolutely everything off my iPod and restore it to factory only to be unable to add anything from my iTunes ever again as is the case with the iPhone.

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync MAC iTunes playlists to my iPhone. Purchased new song with iTunes and it is on my MAC but will not update to iPhone when I sync!

With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync my iTunes MAC playlists to my iPhone!  I purchased a song on Itunes store and put it into a playlist on my MAC.  When I sync (as usual) with my iPhone, the playlist no longer updates to include the new song (i.e., playlist stuck at 16 not 17 songs)... yes, all devices are authorized... If I turn on HOME SHARING it will work, but the moment you disconnect, everything goes away... What is APPLE doing?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!
