i press the update button and
the update button changes to a circle but never downloads the update
it spins around and does nothing

I just update going at the App Store and look the app each one at a time

Ipad2 no longer updates apps

My ipad2 is acting strangely. I am running iOS 5.1 and in the last several days it has stopped updating applications. If more than 1 app is available for updates, if I say "update all" it will update all of the apps except the last one in the list - the app will just appear as "WAITING". If only 1 app is available for update, then it will just sit there as "WAITING". I can update via itunes, but I do not understand why the ipad will not update apps directly. I have an Iphone 4s tied to the same account and it has no difficulty updating applications.
Any ideas?

I am completely frustrated. Now the ipad will NOT UPDATE ANY APPS at all. I have done a hard reboot, I have signed out of the appstore and signed back in (after a reboot), I have signed out and done an update entering my pasword that way, - nothing works. What I get is the appstore saying that the apps are "installing" but the icons will say "waiting". Tapping on the icons does nothing at all.
The only way I can update the apps is to go into itunes, uninstall the apps from the ipad, then update itunes, then reinstall the apps to the ipad.
Does anyone have any ideas? There are no music downloads, no video downloads (I don't do any of that) pending nor was anything interrupted. What can I do to get this functional again?

A month ago I changed my e-mail addy. I changed my Apple ID to the same email I had for MobileMe and I changed ITunes as well. All was fine, until yesterday. I went to update my apps, I do this weekly, and now it now it is asking for the Apple ID password for my old e-mail. I checked the store on my phone, it is my current e-mail. My Apple ID is my current email. My Itunes is my current email. My Mobile Me is my current email. A lot of my apps were purchased with previous Iphones, but everything transferred over fine. What is going on? Having to re-purchase apps sounds like a total ripoff.

If you are curious and you want to know what iOS you are running - go to Settings>General>About>Version.
Also make sure that you transfer purchases into iTunes from your iPad via File>Transfer Purchases while the iPad is connected to your computer, with iTunes running and with your iPad selected. Also make sure that you backup your iPad by right clicking on the iPad name under devices and selecting - Backup. Copy any important files to your computer as well before you update your iPad.

I can no longer update apps on my iPhone 4s after the IOS 8 update. The IOS 8 update took a very long time to complete, maybe 12 hours, and afterwards, it worked but updating packages were very slow. Package updates have since been problematic and about 4 days ago, it stopped being able to update any packages. I click on them to update and they never make any progress. I have 2.8 Gbytes free and I keep deleting more and more packages, pictures, etc. It seems like, from the amount of stuff that I have deleted, I should have more than 2.8 Gbytes free.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem?

16GB iPhone4: Go to Settings, scroll down to iTunes & App Stores and touch. At the top of the next page it shows: Apple ID. Touch this. Select Sign Out. Your Apple ID will go away. Re-enter Apple ID and password. Try App Store again.
Other solutions were to go to Settings:General:Date&Time and turn off auto-update, then change date to next year. This didn't work for me, nor a lot of other users on the forums. It took reading a lot of threads to find the log-out, log-in solution. Even on the official Apple Website all I saw was: Make sure your connection is working, battery is charged, desktop is plugged in when you try to sync. OK I exaggerate, but with all the users posting this problem, you'd think they'd post their solutions when they work with a Tech Help call.

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

This is really annoying. . . I go to update my apps in my iPad & iPhone but when I go "Update All" it asks me to sign in with my old Apple ID (that email address no longer exists). Even if I put in the old password associated with that old ID it tells me I need to verify that Apple ID and that an email has been sent to that old email address (that no longer exists!). It's crazy as I have not used that address for years and two years ago I associated that old ID with my new email address, but I couldn't change my Apple ID to reflect my new email address so it just kept the old address but my receipts were being sent to the new email address. .. confusing, but it worked. I appreciate exactly where you're coming from. I've been fighting a similar battle for some six months now and I've finally given up. The problem is that, contrary to the semantics on the Apple ID management page, your up-to-date email address is not the primary address. The ID name is the primary address and what's alleged to be primary is actually secondary. I learned this the hard way when I was trying to fix an issue with a very old ID that did NOT have an email address as a name. I changed to to reflect the (old) address and I made matters worse and I can't go back!
In my case, I have a whole slew of free apps on the old ID and maybe US$40 or US$50 worth of paid apps. Little by little I'm deleting the free apps and obtaining them again with the current ID. When I finish that, I'll probably bite the bullet and pay again for the other apps.

You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

Since I downloaded the new operating system to my iPod touch I can no longer update my Apps or download new ones. My password is recognized but the download process is immediately interrupted when I touch update (all) or download.

Try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if you can then update the app.
If you do delete the app then you should be able to re-download your ibook purchases via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app. But in case some of them are no longer available in the store and/or you have PDFs or epubs in it, then you could first connect it to your computer's iTunes and do File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) which should copy them over to the Books part of your iTunes library so that you have your own copy of them and can sync them back (even though they aren't iTunes purchases it should also copy over any PDFs or epubs that you have in the iBooks app)

Hi. I'm new here and well I had to change my apple Id. I had to change the the email I was using and the password I was using. Well every since I did that I can no longer update my older apps. I find It ridiculous that it wants me to use my old password and email but I can't. I don't know what to do. Help me please. What can I do so I can update them again. I'm so confused.

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
It sounds like you created a new account. you can change the email for an account and not create a new account. See:

Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.

I can no longer download Apps from App store nor update the existing ones

I can no longer download Apps from App Store.
I would select the app, press the icon to download the App (Ottieni in my language, Italian), download would not start and an alarm saying "Download failed, try from the Purchased page to retry" would pop-up, see screenshot below.
I would visit the page "Purchased" (second icon from right) and try from there by pressing the icon Install on the right hand side but the same pop-up icon would appear and a message by the icon Install saying "An error occurred" would appear.
The same problem occurr when I try to update Keynote, Imovie or any other App I have downloaded.
I do not know whether this is related to this issue but some time ago I installed Avast.
I could not install other apps such as uTorrent (not downloaded through App Store) until I removed Avast.
I am utterly disappointed.
Can anyone help, please?

Yes, Avast could very well be the issue. Bad software, use the developer's instructions to uninstall and don't install again. Your Mac has no real need for most 3rd party anti-viral software and those so-called tune-up apps mess up more than they are worth. A pristine OS X system is all that you need, it takes care of itself.
