No luck with applying Image Mask!

Im trying to add an Image Mask to a video clip in Motion.
I added the Image Mask to the clip per the instructions then added one of the Brushstroke movies from the Content folder in the Library.
The dashboard shows me that the movie is in the well.
But Im seeing no masking going on.
No matter what blend or source setting I choose, I see no masking.
What am I doing wrong?

I happened to be mucking about with the brushstroke clip the other day. If you're looking to have the image appear as the brush drags across, you can simply drop the clip on top of the image layer and set the blend mode to silouhette luma. Ya get something like this:
http://homepage.mac.com/longstrider/iMovieTheater12.html
I tried to apply it as a mask also, but because the pbrush is positioned at the bottom of the frame, it didn't do the trick for me.
Hope this is helpful

  • How to remove the "Image Mask" labels under the effects tab in the Inspector window

I'm still trying to find my way round Final Cut Pro X after using Final Cut Express for many years. I don't know how I have manage to finish up with two Image Masks being set under the effects tab in the Inspector window. The Image Mask effects are not active (the box adjacent to the label is not blue) How can I remove the Image Mask label from the Effects tab in the Inspector window?
    Thanks JohnH

  • APPLY IMAGE vs. BLENDING MODES.

    Hey guys,
I am trying to understand the difference between apply image and blending modes as I realise my grasp of it is weak.
Why blending the duplicate of an image with the original, with a given blending mode, does not give the same result as, Applying the duplicate of an image to the original with the same given blending mode in Apply Image?
What I have done in Photoshop, to be clearer :
    1. one image ("background image"), duplicated it ("copy1") and set the blending mode ot linear light (for example). I get the result 1.
    2. I selected "background image" and applied it in linear light (for this example), with Apply Image, to the "copy1" image. Result is different.
Can you people tell me why? Where is my thought process faulty? thanks.

    DUH moment for me today..
As Sudarshan requested, I was going to do the screen shots of my results, so I did it again and this time got the same result for both situation (apply image and blending the two layers with the same blending mode).
I don't know what the heck I did the first time round, but surely something wrong.. Sorry for the confusion guys.
To answer the questions though : Conroy, I had four layers (four copies of the same image) and grouped them in two different comps (one blend mode and other apply image) for comparison, switching from one to the other.
RKelly : it was an exact copy of the original, so twice the same picture.
As to not make this post a blank shot, I would like to get back to my original question. Blending an image to another with Apply Image OR blending two layers with the blending mode options in the layers palette are two similar processes, is that right?
And add a question, while I am here. Still with Apply Image, will adding an image (A) to another (B) (with Add blend mode) be accurately the same as substracting the invert of A from B (with the substract blend mode)?

  • How do I import an image with an opacity mask from AI into FW

I have created a graphic in AI which contains several images with associated opacity masks. The mask use a radial gradient to achieve the desired effect. I am unable to import these images into FW with the mask effects intact even though the layers appear to be there. What am I doing wrong? I don't see away to do it in FW directly. If there's a work-around that would be appreciated too.

Fireworks' masking is pretty good. If you have your object and your mask in FW, arrange the objects so that the mask is above the object, select both, then click on
Modify > Mask > Group as Mask
Where the mask is white, your object will be fully opaque. Where the mask is black or 100% transparent, your object will be fully transparent. Where the mask is grey or partially transparent, your object will be, as well, proportionally to the grey level/transparency level in the mask.
Fireworks also has some built-in masks to fade objects radially or linearly. In CS3, these are under
Commands > Creative > Fade Image
but they got moved someplace else for CS4. I can't find the info on that in the help, though, sorry. Oh wait. It might be the Auto Vector Masks:

  • How do I crop an image with a Clipping Mask using a circle instead of a rectangle?

I watched Adobe TV Illustrator's tutorial about cropping images with a clipping mask. In the video, the presenter uses the rectangle tool with the clipping mask, and makes a reference that the circle or vector shape could be used, but I cannot figure out how to get the circle.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illustrator-cs6/cropping-images-with-clipping-masks/
I'm new to Illustrator and need step by step instructions!
    Thanks!

    Christine,
As Larry said, and as I said in the first post:
For a Clipping Mask, you just create a path, in this case a circle, and place it on top of the image, then select both and Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
You can see the shortcut when you use the dropdown; it is Ctrl+7 for Windows.
At least in the old days, you could also use Alt/Option+O+M+M (easy to remember, Object>Mask>Make).
It is easy to skip/overlook the exact steps.

  • IMAQ Quantify rseults with use of image mask are not of the right regeons

I'm using the IMAQ quantify VI from labview to analize a binairy image. This binairy image is an 8bit image that consists only of pixels with the value 0 or 1. The places of the binairy  image where the pixels have the value 0, mean that a corresponding image has not data in that place. A pixel value of 1 means that there is data that should be processed later in the program in the corresponding image.
The quantify function is also used to devide the image in 666 regeons with the use of the image mask input. These regeons are squares of 22x22 pixels. The image mask consists of 666 regeons (horizontally 74 sqaures, vertically 9 sqaures) and each of the regeons has his own regeonal number. The resulting regeonal report is used to decide whether each regeon has data in it or not, with the use of the mean value in the report. When the mean value is equal to 0 than it is sure that there is no data in that regeon since all the pixels in the regeon have to have the value of 0. If the mean is not 0 at least one of the pixels in that regeon has the value of 1, wich means that there is data in the regeon. The image mask is created from an 2D array wich is converted to an 16 bit image with the use of IMAQ ArrayToImage.
I've checked that the input data is correct: the binairy image consist of only 1 and 0 values, the image mask is consist of 666 sqaures of 22x22 pixels and each sqaure has pixels in it with the value corresponding to the regeonal number of the sqaure, the binairy image and the image mask have the same size, the image mask is an 16 bit image and both images have the same border size (3).
    Two problems occur:
    1) The regeonal report doesn't consist of 666 elements, but of 665 elements (element 0 to 664)
    2) The data in the regeonal report is not of the right area's. It looks like the data is shifted one to the right in the regeonal report array, the data in element 0 isn't from regeon 0 but from regeon 1, element 1 corresponds to regeon 2, and so on. I'm haven't checked if the data is exactly of the next regeon, but I suspect it because of the regeonal report array being one short. But it is also possible that the regeons aren't placed on the right place in the binary image.
If someone else occured this problem with the IMAQ Quantify function or has a solution to it, I would really apreaciate a reply.

Isn't there anybody who encountered the same problem or with an solution?

  • Rounded corners from image mask disappear with Drop Zone

    Hi All,
I'm really stumped here. I'm on Motion4 and per directions from other posts I have used the following method to attempt a mask shape. The desired outcome is a photo that has a nice square shape with rounded corners.
    1. Using a photo on the canvas.
    2. In the layers menu, I click on the image and select, Add Image Mask
    3. In the inspector I go to Image mask and drop in Frame17 from the contents folder.
The problem...every time the rounded corners from the shape seem to disappear. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? Or suggest another method.
Additional info from Image Mask Tab: Source Channel is set to Alpha, Mask Blend Mode is set to Add, automatically-I did not set these.

When you say that the rounded corners seem to disappear, what do you mean exactly? Are they there at first, but then disappear after you start playing the sequence? Or do the rounded corners not happen at all?
If the corners start, but disappear after playing the project, then it probably means that the Frame 17 image from the content folder is not as long as the image mask. As soon as the Frame ends, it will stop providing the source for the image mask. Fix this by making sure that Frame 17 is at least as long as your image mask.
Alt way, and easier unless you're working in a 3D project, is to simply draw a rectangle mask around your photo and in the Mask tab of the inspector, adjust the roundness parameter until the corners are sufficiently rounded to your liking.

  • Reverse clipping mask with imported image

I have a rectangle over a larger imported image, and I would like to get rid of the area that the ractangle covers. Clipping mask does the opposite, getting rid of the area outside, and pathfinder only works for paths, not imported images. I am a bit stumped on this, and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
    Thanks!

Yeah you may get best results with an opacity mask. Take the box you want to knock out of your image color it black, select the image and the black box and in the Transparency panel click make mask. Then deselect the Clip check box. You should be seeing the center of the image knocking out where the box was and you should have Clip and Invert Mask both deselected.

  • Motion Behavior with Image Mask

I am having a hard time attempting to make an image move in Motion but not become visible until it passes through a certain location.  I tried searching but think I am just asking the wrong the questions.  I basically have an image that is going to slide open with a Motion Behavior but I only want part of the image visaible until it moved through a certain point.  Any suggestions or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

All objects are contained within a Group, even at the top level, including images.
Animate your image as you want (keyframe, Throw behavior, etc.).
Add an Image Mask to the Group level (select the group and type Command Shift M).
Draw a rectangle that will become a "viewport" for your image to "enter" into (preferably within the group with the image.)
Drag and drop the Rectangle layer (from the layer list) onto the Image Mask added to the group (the rectangle layer should become deactivated [unchecked] automatically; if not, uncheck it in the layers list.) [The Rectangle object must be Filled; whether or not you have it outlined is up to you.]
    Play.

  • Applying a mask and cropping so exports in Flash

I created a Photoshop CS4 file with about 10 layers which I placed in a group.  I've applied a vector mask to the whole group so all of the pictures are masked in an identical manner.  I also cropped the group to the same size.
When I import this file into Flash CS4, all of the layers are showing up at their original sizes (instead of the size I cropped the group to), and the mask isn't being applied.
Can someone explain the proper way to get this layered file into Flash CS4 with the cropped size and mask intact?
    Thanks for the help.

I'm not an expert in photoshop, but I've tried everything I know to apply the mask to multiple layers and was not able to do so, and still maintain separate layers. I selected all the layers first and tried to apply a mask, and that didn't work. Then I grouped all the layers and was still unable to apply a single mask to all layers. The only way I was able to apply a mask to all layers was to flatten the image. Given that you're importing it into flash, I'm assuming that you're animating the various layers to acheive a certain effect. If that's the case, then flattening the image to apply the mask to the entire document at once doesn't make sense. If you're using the entire image without the need for layers, then of course you can flatten the image and then use the mask to make a selection and clear the unwanted parts of the image.
I have to imagine that there's a way to do what you're asking, but with my level of experience, I'm unable to find a way to make it happen. There may be a way to export the file to flash with the layer mask intact, or perhaps there's a way to apply the mask to all layers at once, but I'm unable to find it. I would apply it to each layer individually which may take a few more minutes, as it's the only way I can find.
The only other option I can think of, is to place the entire psd file in a flash document directly. CS5 allows this in After Effects and Premiere Pro, which may keep the mask intact. I don't know enough about Flash to know if that's possible as well, but it's worth a shot.
As a final suggestion, maybe you can do all of your annimation and effects in After Effects, then just save it as a Flash file. I've done this before and it's allowed me to create rather robust annimations and effects without having to learn the more complicated aspects of creating a flash document from scratch.
Hopefully one of the CS5 gurus will see this and point the way to a quicker solution, but this is all I know to do at the moment.
Best of luck with your project.
P.S. To answer the last part of your question, yes, I can only imagine that as a workaround, you can make a selection from the mask and clear the unwanted sections of each layer, and then bring it into Flash.

  • Need help with Rollover Image cross browser problem

    Hello,
I am having a cross browser problem with my websites rollover nav links.  The trouble is, while they work perfectly fine in IE8 and IE9, I’ve also attempted to use them through Opera, and they simply don’t work.  They don’t link nor do they do their rollover effect.  And I was trying to figure out what I have done wrong.  Currently the site is not completed, but the first two pages are, the “news” and “about me” pages are currently (as of right now) working.  The address to the site is below.
    http://maxmetal.xsustudios.com/index.html
I hope that someone can help me with this, if needs be I can put the code for the CSS and HTML into this part if it will save some time for everyone.  Sorry too about the PNG images, I have to change those over to semi-transparent GIF’s yet so the site does take a while to load…
Hope someone can help me with this!
    PALADIN

When I disable CSS in my browser, the rollover buttons work just fine.  This tells me your CSS is messed up and you've layered something over your menus which is making them inaccessible to users.
I noticed you've applied relative positioning to just about everything on your page.  Why?   Default CSS positioning (unspecified or static) is all you need for 98% of layouts.
