No luck with Laserwriter 4/600 and iMac OS X 10.4.8

I read the few previous posts on the same subject (and pretty much same conclusion) as mine:
Apple 4/600 printer into Asante Apple talk box into ethernet into iMac... and nothing. Except a prompt, after resetting my print system: "New Printer Drivers detected. Would you like to reload the (printer) browser?" I click "OK". And nothing happens.
The iMac seems to detect that something is connected, but does not know what to do with it. Do any of you have a clue how I can complete the connection, so that the printer will show up in the print utility browser, and I can actually print something? Best regards,
PP

My connections are as follows, and please chime in if you find that to be the problem:
round 8-pin miniature plug cable from printer into jack in Asante Talk (which is plugget into AC and has four green LEDs which upon start up do their dance, then settle to steady-on for "PWR and "Li"), Ethernet cable from Asante into Ethernet jack in iMac.
That's all I did. The OSX printer browser has two selectable sections:
Default Printer and IP Printer. I assume (wrongly?) that I stick with the default printer window? Regardless, with modern printers none of this is an issue, as it all shows up and sets up automatically. The Laserprinter interface seems to be the problem
Your further guidance would greatly help me!
Thanks,
PP

I haven't found a source for the specific Apple Laserwriter PPDs yet. PPDs are all that's needed to print to postscript printers.
You should be able to use "Generic Postscript Printer" driver choice to print.
I don't have one of those - is the comm protocol you used to add it the "IP > LPD" protocol? IP > IPP won't be appropriate, because the printers were made before IPP was conceived.
By the way, if you can locate the PPD files from an old backup, that should work. PPDs for an already-added printer are found in /etc/cups/ppd (using Finder's Go menu -- Go To Folder for the boot drive, and drill down in the /etc folder on a backup drive).

  • MS Wired Keyboard 600 and iMac

On an iMac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM, I'm using the MicroSoft Wired Keyboard 600. Often on booting/rebooting--or even sometimes after waking from sleep--keyboard won't work. Unplugging USB connector doesn't always work, so I have to shut down and start all over. Not using Intellitype. Suggestions? Thank you.

You downloaded what Microsoft's menu based webpage suggests should be the right drivers. Does it add a system preference to control your keyboard in Apple menu -> System Preferences? Does it add an application or a utility in your Applications folder? If neither, post here to find out if it is compatible with your version of 10.6:

  • How do you use multiple displays with a MacBook Pro and iMac

I have an iMac and a MacbookPro laptop both upgraded to OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  I'd like to use multiple displays with them.  Can I do this without an Apple TV?  They are both on the same network.  If I can, can someone please give some instructions on how this can be done?
    Thanks!

Both computers have ports for external monitors. Check your user manuals. Only one display can be added to the MBP, but newer iMacs have dual Thunderbolt ports.
Do your own Google research to learn what to do, but reading your manuals should be all you really need. It' not rocket science yet.

  • How do I set up the printer default so that it prints black only, with all my devices and iMac

Have an Officejet 8600 Plus, used with an iMac. Also using wireless feature to print from iPads and iPhones. The printer has been setup from the iMac to print using the black ink cartridge, only. The problem is with my devices. I am unable to figure out how to set up the printer to print in black when I print from my devices. Is there a solution to this?

Hi symo46, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are trying to determine how to print with black ink only from your iPad. As you may have experienced using Airprint you will not have any options other than number of copies, however the HP ePrint App may have the option you are looking for.
When printing from the HP ePrint App, if you are printing Office documents or PDFs you can use black ink only.

    I hope this helps.

  • Printing issue with HP LaserJet 4300 and iMac 10.9

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a HP LaserJet 4300 printer with my iMac 10.9.
Printer installs fine, at least all appears to be fine but when trying to print a page, couple of pages comes out all with strange characters across the whole page.
Tried uninstalling and installing printer again but no succes.
Printer is on Windows 2003 server. Cuople of windows machines connected to the printer, they print fine.
    Any suggestions?

The page looks perfect in preview and as a PDF. I can't print from the PDF, however, because it shrinks the text and expands the margins ...
Something's fishy. Save as PDF should result a file that looks exactly, precisely, like what you'd get if you printed directly to your printer.
I suspect your Word document has been corrupted by a few bytes of random data that is causing your printer to go nuts. Try cutting that portion out of the document, and pasting it in a new blank document so you can incrementally isolate the damage.
This isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, because when the PostScript printer driver encounters the errant code in the Word document, it's essentially telling the printer "now, go to the top of this page, print a nasty black smudge, and then crash." You might have to cut a whole page before and after the suspected corruption. If you're lucky you might be able to cut the portion then paste it right back as "unformatted text". Try that.

  • 2 devices with 2 apple ID and imac

    Hello,
We do have an imac that is set up with an ipod (same apple ID).
I have a ipad mini with another ID.
My question is : what is the beset set up to skip synchro problems?
How can I get my itunes session with the same ID as my ipad? should I make another desktop or another sessions (i want the same rights than the actual session?
I want the 2 itunes to point on the same stuff, and avoid to put my music at 2 places.
    thanks for the help

When one adds a new email address via Settings->FaceTime in the area 'You can be reached for video calls at:'  the system will send an email to that address containing a link.  Clicking on that link will complete the verification process and that email address will become a valid 'address' for using that device with FaceTime.
If there is already an email address in the settings 'You can be reached for video calls at:' area, and it is the same one used on another device then the duplicated email address can be removed after the new address is verified.  As long as each iDevice has a unique and verified email address at that location then calls can be made between devices regardless of the Apple ID used with that device.

  • How to scan documents with HP Officejet 5610 and iMac 21.5 ?

    Hello,
Please can someone tell me how to scan documents with a HP Officejet 5610 all-in-one printer and an iMac 21.5 , OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1 ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
Scanning can be done on Yosemite as listed in the following document:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04467713&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
A such will allow scanning as a PDF file as example.
If by "Scanning a Document" you may refer to OCR scanning (e.g. scanning a text to a Word file which can be edited), a such is not supported by the provided solution and will require a 3rd party software which offer OCR capabilities. Vuescan re as example support a such:

  • Problem with epson v300 scanner and iMac?

My epson v300 scanner worked well with my G4, but when I got the iMac it scanned photos with parallel wavy lines in the pictures' dark areas (looks a bit like wood grain, only wavy like an EKG monitor line). Got a new one since the warranty had run out, but it did the same thing. Called epson It yesterday and their solution was to get another machine (scanner), which seems pointless, since it seems it's more likely a problem with this model. I've used Epson products for years and like them, (except for the cost of printer ink), and would probably get another of their scanners, but want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong myself first. Any advice?

  • Anyone else having any luck with Sony raw files and the Raw 3.8 Compatibility fix?

Tried importing my raw photos from my Sony Nex-5N. Supposed to work with the Nex-C3 which should be the same. Have to use Lightroom instead of Aperture - would prefer Aperture.

I'm not sure as you have some extra letters on the cameras you cite, but Aperture 3 should support the Sony Alpha NEX-5, not sure about the 5N.
When you do import, what happens? When you plug in your camera (how are you importing) and hit the import button, what happens next?
More information the better for us to try and help troubleshoot the issue.

Are you new to macs generally, or just to this mac? Assuming the former, in OS X you make most of your choices for print quality, ink, paper, etc. in the OS X print window that pops up after you click Print in the PSE print window. The window usually opens as a little stub and you need to click Show Details to expand the window. Your print settings will be in the pulldown menu in the middle of the expanded window.

  • HT1386 This does not work as advertized.  sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.  I have had limited luck with three iphones, ipads and two computers.  Is there a way to set this so it works?

Is there a way to configure sync over wifi in itunes that works.  I have done a bunch of reading and it seems many people are having issues making this work.  My experience is that it sometimes works, and sometimes does not.
I have had limited sucess with three different iphones, ipads, and two different computers and two different wireless networks.
    Same poor sucess as others..
What is advertized by apple does not work 100% of the time.  Is there a fix coming for this.

Agreed about the roses but alas my next project always calls. Actually, I think what happens is I give each project SO much love that when it comes to exporting, I've run out of time.

Semantics aside, I would love to be able to have it at least default to whatever option was last chosen. Or, perhaps I shouldn't use the word default again...I'd love it to simply remember my preferred setting. That's all.

  • Kodak Playsport and iMac compatibility

I just purchased the Kodak Playsport. Great camera, but im having trouble importing files into my iMac G5.
the camera records .MOV files in 1080p 30fps, or 720 at 60fps, or 720 at 30fps, or some other resolution that is even lower WVGA?
    I have iLife 09.
when I plug in the camera it automatically opens iPhoto. I can import the video files (.MOV files) into iPhoto or directly onto the HD as .MOV files, but when I play them back in Quicktime, the video is very "choppy".
When I import files directly from the camera to iMovie, they take EXTREMELY LONG TIME to import, but playback is perfect. When I say extremely long time, I mean it takes approx 3+ hours to import 10 minutes of video at 1080p. - Not acceptable.
When I called Kodak tech support, they were actually reasonably helpful and accessable (approx 15 min wait time) but were not able to solve the problem.
In the end, they said it was my system was inadequate for playback of HD video because I only have a 2.0 GHz processor and 1.5 GB of Ram.
Does anyone have experience with the Kodak Playsport and iMac G5?
Does the claim by Kodak that my system is not adequate for playback of HD video files sound reasonable?

    Michael Christopher wrote:

    Yes.
1080p files are HUGE, and, as you have found, they test the limits of your Mac. If you really need to use 1080p video, buy as much processor and disk space as you can afford with your new Mac. For best 1080 results, you will probably also want to upgrade from iMovie to Final Cut Express or Final Cut Studio.
If you keep your current Mac, you will see little if any loss of video quality on your Mac and MUCH better performance when importing saved files if you set your iMovie > Preferences... > Video to import "Large" files instead of "Full" size.
If you are importing directly into iMovie from your "Playsport", use the choices bar at the bottom of the import Preview window to reduce the "Video Size" of your import.

  • Will a late '09 Imac support a wireless print network with a 16/600 laser writer laserwriter?

I had a wireless network set up with a Quicksilver and a Macbook Pro with a 16/600 ps laserwriter with a transponder plugged  into an airport extreme. The Macbook pro would only print when the Quicksilver was on. We replaced the Quicksilver with a late '09 imac 3.6 G and 21.5" screen. We used migtation assistant. Why can't I print!

Appletalk support has be dropped in OS X as of Snow Leopard. However if you can get the IP address of the printer then you should be able to add it as an IP printer. Because the printer is so old I would have no idea how to get it's IP address however  you can look in the printers utilities to see if it can print a status or configuration page.
