No matter what I do. MacBook Pro LAGGY like ****. PLEASE HELP

So here is my story....
I bought my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011.... two years ago even little more....
after few months a start to have problems with my mac.... stutter... lag.... freez..... stuff that i never used to see in my windows machine...
The thing is that i tried everything (AND i really mean everything) with no good luck....
i hard rest my macbook pro. like wiping entire hard drive and installing OSX from the start.... trying the SMC or CMS key combination to reset the thing i dont know..... booting into safe mode.... booting into CMD+D to check system and system memory and all the extra stuff.... using disk utility to check for errors..... i really used everything i could find with no luck.
(NO WINDOWS INSTALLED) hard disk nearly empty... what ever i do it always lag
why i do believe my mac is slow because whenever i see someone with a macbook pro a run to him/her to use their computer and guess what .... its always faster than mine.... i also check to make sure it's late 2011 like mine or even older. (like a normal right click on a word inside safari take 2 sec to open the menu... clicking the apple logo top left.... take like 2 sec to open.... i dont think this is a normal thing
How ever when i install windows on my machine i get the best experience ever ?
so what should i do now ? i really feel stupid to install window on a machine that should be fastest thing ever happen to humanity....
my computer ram 4GB
my daily use is : google chrome ..... iphoto..... itunes..... (THATS IT)
i will upload a picture so you can see CPU usage is minimal and RAM usage isn't under that pressure....
again even when i have a clean format i still have the lag stupidity in my macbook pro
I am really thinking to switch back to windows.... my old lenovo laptop with 4GB ram and dual core runs much fasterr and snappier than my macbook

I've installed windows 7 with the help of bootcamp on my macbook pro 2011.
Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

You either download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant and save to USB FAT disk, or you insert and use 10.6.x OS X DVD when in Windows and install and run the SETUP from there.

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.  The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
    3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware  Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

  • I have external hard drive and I cant make changes in it, such as deleting photos or adding photos to external hard drive from macbook pro. could anyone please help me. I don;t know what to do...

I have macbook pro. I can not make changes in external hard drive such as deleting photos also I can not add photos to external hard drive. could you please help me?

    That's the way.
The drive is probably formatted NTFS which is Windows proprietary file system. Mac OS can read it, but not write to it.
You can do as suggested by TheDave if you have sufficient HD space for temporary storage. Depending on whether you need to continue using the drive with Windows machines there are a few options.
Best for Mac only use is to re-partition and format as GUID partition map and Mac OS Extended (journaled)
For dual use, Leave the partition as MBR and format as FAT32 (MS-DOS in Disk Utility). This has a file size limit of a little over 4GB, but can be read and written to by both Mac and Windows.
There is also exFAT (aka FAT64) if both OSs support it - no file limit there that you'll ever reach.
Alternatively there are software solutions which will allow the Mac to read and write to NTFS drives. I'm told they're not as good as the other solutions, but may be an option if you haven't space to store the contents while re-formatting.

  • Experiencing 'lag' & other issues with FCP 7.0.3 on MacBook Pro...please help!

    Hi all
Man, I've been having SUCH frustrations with my MBP running FCP lately - and it used to be 100% no more than 6 months ago?
Basically what happens is that the Canvas window starts lagging after a while - it sometimes looks as if the external HDD can't keep up with FCP anymore, regardless of whether I use my Mac HD as scratch drive, or my external. And I've tried it across numerous externals... I'm beginning to wonder if it's my logic board or GPU, or perhaps even my FW800 port?
Also, when I'm editing on my timeline and add new clips to the edit, this behaviour picks up. Sometimes, when I'm scrubbing or skipping through clips on the timeline, the Canvas displays funky green frames, starts laggin, or the worst: the frames between one cut and another jump around like crazy, even if I just play back at normal speed.
I've done everything I could - cleared space on my Mac HD (it's now got more than 50% free), repaired and verified disk permissions, run AppleJack, etc. etc.
Does anyone know what it could be? I'm seriously considering a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 and FCS2, as well as upgrading from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM, but what bothers me most is how this used to never happen, and it's not like the work I'm doing is more intense or heavier than anything I've done before.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
    Here's my exact specs:

Thanks... But again, why would I have to do this now when it was never a problem before?
In any case, all the footage I'm using in this project is XDCAM EX, the only difference being that some footage is 720, while other footage is 1080, and then there's also a variation in terms of interlaced and progressive footage accross the board (it's a rock band documentary, don't ask! )... Could this have something to do with it?
I kinda doubt it, cos one of the TV shows I work on has the same codec, resolution and other settings accorss the board, and I experience the same stutter on these projects...

  • Multiple issues on MacBook Pro Retina. Please help

I am new to Mac. Switched to MacBook Pro from PC being tired of multiple hang-ups and recently losing some important work done on excel.
Now, I face some issues. I know that the first 2 shown here are Microsoft issues, but hey, even those like me who switched to MAC will, like it or not, face Microsoft at some point. Besides, there is no such "Warning" notice before buying a MAC that reads "Ms Office users, please refrain from buying a Mac" after all. :-)
Hopefully someone here will be able to help me.
    1) Outlook. (not critical but annyoing)
         a) I can't find the way to reply emails without imprinting the corporate Signature on every email. Is there any way to solve this?
         b) "Do not save" option for sending emails out is not an option?
         c) Request "read confirmation" not an option?
    2) Excel. (critical for someone spending 95% of her/his time on excel)
Anyone working on fin markets will agree that excel goes without Mouse 90% of the time. For that reason shortcuts are a MUST.
    Now... the issues
         a) Speed of scrolling. Moving around the excel sheet with the arrows is way to slow.. even for a 2.9Ghz Intel Pentium 8Gb Ram 500GB flash HD like my Mac. Is there any way to speed up this?
         b) PC shortcuts have changed completely in a Mac. A "critical" shortcut is the "F2" button, to edit cells and check formulas within. This has to be one keystroke.. not a combination of two.
To my surprise F2 translates into Ctrl + U (two keystrokes).  I will reserve my comments on this matter, but somehow I have managed to resolve this myself by installing a Butler program and mapping the shortcut action manually on another key (under Esc).   ( -> so this one is somehow resolved)
    3) Stability
I have paid a hefty sum hoping that "hangs-up" would be part of the past. Unfortunately, I have suffered 5 hang ups in a period of 10 days, and doing some basic google search I came accross multiple forums about the "spiralling colour of death"? is there any way to turn a Mac more stable?
Of course, the machine is gorgeous, the built is impecable, the screen is superb but, I still suffer from the issues listed above.
so as a new Mac user and starting to become a bit frustrated, I am looking forward to your responses.
    Kind regards

Outlook and Excel are different beasts on a Mac, and not as good if you're used to Office for Windows IMO so you have two choices:
    1) Get over it, and re-learn Outlook and Excel but be prepared for certain features to be missing; or
    2) Use bootcamp or a virtual machine to install your MS OS of choice and then install and use your favourite version of Office for Windows.
    Enjoy!

  • Power up Issue macbook Pro A1175? (please help)

I turn on the power and the chime sounds but the screen stays black and there is no hard drive activity. The indicater light on the front of the computer lights up: the light thats on the button that opens the laptop.
The light on the battery also turns on but there is no HDD lighting up and no activity. This issue started this morning as last night I turned off the Macbook pro to shut it down and it powered off correctly. Before I shut it down the programs that were running on it was Photo shop, Safari, Itunes - Itunes was playing some music but it was on pause for several hours, and Furcadia. I shut them all down closing each application individually and then shut down the book pro. it's a 15 inch mac book pro. S/N W872904NXAH
    M/N A1175
Can anyone please help me? I don't remember what version the Leopard version I have but I think it was somewhere between 10.5.1 - 10.5.6.
Tech support want to charge me like 50 dollars just to get advise on what to do.,,, I tell you.... It's a rip off... My girlfriend's father is going to send me the disc to get it fix prolly .. i has leopard on this disc..
Any advise..? I could use some Keys or tips to try and test this laptop to see if any problems might be OS related...
if there is any alternitives id like to know. my gf really needs this laptop back as she needs it for college.,, Id hate to have to send it in to apple.. it would take weeks ,,, she doesnt have weeks and she needs her data now.
Also is it possible to hook up the hard drive in the laptop to another computer running Leopard? Or is it possible to use Linux Kabuntu to use DDR Rescue the data or extract it?
The hard drive is not responding to anything and someone told my GF that it might be a hard drive related issue.

I am adding a other piece of information that any viewer must see: I have checked out the help areas of the macbook pro and I tried to find step guides in the Resetting the PMU for IBook or MacBook models here is the link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US
when I try to find my model it is not listed there nore anywere else on step guides to reset the PMU I have already reseted the VRAM and such but still to no avail it has failed to resolve my issue does anyone know how to reset the PMU On a Powerbook Pro A1175? Its a 15 inch that came out 2007 of June 5th. Mid year 07.
I found my specs and here it is :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP17
I can't find instructions on to do these steps,, So please if any techs out there more experienced in Mac OSes I would greatly appretiate the help.
    Sincerly,
    Brickstin.

  • Is My Macbook Pro refurbished? Please Help!!

    Hi,
Today I purchased a Mac Book Pro 17" from an Apple Authorized reseller/Service Provider here in India.. I have doubts that it is a refurbished piece .. It doesnt look Fresh.. Has some minor 2 or 3 scratches.. one small dent at the back ...plus those small rubber soles at the bottom also appear dirty.. When I tried to get the warranty info of my product from apple's warranty info page https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do# It says "Our records indicate that your product is covered under Apple's Limited Warranty which is estimated to expire on 11 Sep 2008." Note I purchased it today that is 29th Jan 2008
Plus it also says "*_Your product is not eligible for complimentary phone support._*"
I am now quite sure that this is not a fresh piece ... Can some one please give their views.. Please Help!!

    Hi,
Thanks for the response... Ok Can u plz explain what do u mean when u say "have you controlled the package?"
In response to your other points.. I didnt but it from a store .. Here in India we have Apple authorized resellers.. I purchased it from an Apple Authorized reseller plus he is also an Apple Authorized service provider..
Some points to note .. I have been enquiring for a MacBook Pro for a couple of days now and none of the 18 odd resellers (listed on the Apple Asia reseller page) Have the 17" Model in stock ... It is out of stock everywhere...
Another thing .. this guy called me up and asked me if I wanted the stuff (The tiger OS etc) installed on the MBP.. I told him I didnt want anything installed coz I can do it on my own since the Installation CDs came with the package .. but he still insisted saying it would be easier for me and blah blah... (this raises some doubts)
So what I got was not sealed pack at all ...
Also He told me he has put a Scratch guard (the screen protecting plastic) on the screen/display complimentary.. (this again raises some doubts)
Also I would really appreciate if some one can tell me about the warranty .. how is it calculated... Coz since the Apple support page tells me .. My serial number in their records show that My 90 Day Phone support has expired and the warranty is only Valid till Sep 08"
All these stuff together just point in one direction that My Macbook Pro is not fresh .. I feel ripped after paying full payment and getting a used piece I paid about USD $3362 .. Thats a lot more than what u would pay for it in the U.S (about $2799) I would appreciate your advice...

    try these;
see what you have loading on start up at your login items - delete the ones you don't need.
open up activity monitor, under all processes, see what's using the highest % CPU and highlight it, then hit quit process.
open disk utility and do a verify disk.  once that's done do a verify disk permissions - repair if needed.
restart your macbook once you're done and see if it brings it back to speed.
    good luck...

You're welcome. Your panic report seems to have the same references mine did regarding the graphics card. I went to the Genius Bar because everything I tried to solve the problem didn't help. These are 2 of the links to info. that gave me hope that I might get the problem "permanently" solved without having to pay for repairs.

  • Macbook Pro Problems. Please help!

My computer has recently been experiencing some problems. Less than a month ago I had about 5 kernel panics. Suddenly, they went away, but other problems have arose. Finder keeps on relaunching and nearly every program unexpectedly quits. I have no clue why this is happening, please help. I am using a Macbook Pro, 15" screen, 2.33 Ghz, 2 GB RAM.

and, i might add, since it appears he is still running 10.4.8 and may not have done the 10.4.10 update, it would seem to narrow down the problem to possibly bad airport firmware or bad airport driver. something that apple needs to address. i suggest you call appleCare and get a case number started and join the club.

  • Problems with XP Home on Macbook Pro... please help!!!

I have had these issues on my new Macbook Pro 17" and had to spend hours on the phone with Apple (well actually my assistant did)installing XP Home. Now that it has been working a few weeks I have developed other issues.
    1. My track pad sporatically goes crazy with the cursor when trying to scroll the internet in Firefox. I scroll to my location then go to select something and bang right to the bottom of the page... anyone able to help?
    2. I can not select a resolution in the XP control panel that makes objects appear correctly... like circles appear oblong etc.
    3. After several hours it flashes a blue screen with text so quickly it can't be read and then the computer restarts... it *****.
I am an old Mac user back to '84... any help would be appreciated.

If you are worried about sensitive data being accessed when you send in a computer for repair, you should probably at least have it in an encrypted disc image. You should also have everything backed up on an external drive, just in case they end up wiping your drive while troubleshooting.
Do you have a firewire external drive? If so, you can use a cloning program like Super Duper to create a bootable clone of your internal hard drive. If you are really worried about your data, you can then erase the internal drive and just reinstall the OS from your original discs. Then when you get your Mac back, you can just re-clone to the internal drive. Or you can restore from Time Machine if you are using Time Machine for backups.
It is always good practice to not make it too easy for someone to access your sensitive data on a computer. And to keep a current backup.
    Good luck!

  • AirPort Disk works on Vista but is ULTRA SLOW on MacBook Pro...please help.

This is nuts, huh? Please help.
I can copy files using Window's Vista at about 7MBps so it takes around 2min 40secs to copy a previously bought 1.3GB iTunes TV show from the AirPort Disk (connected via USB 2.0)to my Vista machine. I understand this is a reasonable speed, if you think it should go faster let me know. When I try to play it with iTunes directly from the Airport Disk(by control clicking it and telling it to play with iTunes, not sure this is the best way, advice appreciated) it plays okay but I get a fair amount of stutters where it will skip a 1-4 seconds. Any way to fix this? Or should I just download it to my computer and play it from there. I was trying to save space and confusion on my computers and just play via the Airport Extreme Disk.
NOW THE WEIRD STUFF! It takes 4 hours to download the same TV file mentioned above from the Airport Disk to my MacBook Pro! And to stream the movie from the Airport Disk is impossible. Can anyone offer suggestions? I searched online and could not find any help.
Additional Info that might be helpful:
-AirPort Extreme 340ll/a, Version 7.5(I assume that's the firmware version).
-I erased with 0s and formatted an external 7200RPM 8MB Western Digital drive to "Mac OS Extended Journaled" via my MacBook Pro's USB port, using Disk Utility.
-My wi-fi connections seems fine: for web surfing it is fast with my Macbook and Windows computers, so that's not a problem. FYI, I did some internet download speed tests and got like 15,000-20,000kbps, which is pretty good, right?
-I hooked the drive up directly to my MacBook Pro's USB 2.0 port and copied the same HD TV show file to the computer, and Apple's "Activity Monitor" utility showed it is reading and writing at 30MBps which I understand is quite good. So it does not appear to be a hard drive problem either.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Cause of problem:
I found out that the problem was that in the "Airport Utility" under "Internet Connection" tab, the "Connection Sharing" had been set to "Off(Bridge Mode)". This stopped my MacBook Pro from accessing the AirPort Disk(an external hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station). I still find it weird that My HP computer could access the AirPort Disk just fine and my MacBook Pro was so ultra slow(i.e. 4 hours to copy a 1.3GB file!) accessing files on the hard drive.
So, how did the default setting get changed to cause the problem to being with? I got some error pop-up box that said there were 2 NAT tables causing a conflict of some sort, so I followed it's instructions which put it in bridge mode which caused the problems. The reset of the wireless router put the "Connection Sharing" back into "Share a Public IP address" mode which is the default.
So anyway, this appears to be the end of this story, and I hope this post saves some people out there from some headaches and lost time!
    Peace!

  • Using my New MacBook Pro in Brazil - Please Help

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, and plan to take it with me to Brazil next month. This is a gift for a relative of mine. Is anyone aware whether or not I need to consider addressing configuration changes to accommodate the fact that it will operate in Brazil as opposed to the US? I'm assumimg it will operate as it operates in the US, however specific changes in configuration, I will want to have taken care of prior to my arrival in Brazil. Also, can I have the Mac configured in Portuguese here?
    Thinkpad   Windows XP

I know that under System Prefs>International, you can set the default language to Portuguese. There are some other changes you can make there. As for power, no problem, the power supply is 100-240v. All you might need is an adaptor for the power brick. I'm not familiar with their plug setup. There are probably service centers in Brazil and if you have the extended AppleCare, you are covered worldwide.
Let us know of any specific concerns you want to have addressed

  • Flashing question mark folder on macbook pro startup. PLEASE HELP

I have a MacBook Pro which I think is a 2011 version. When I startup the computer it comes up with the flashing question mark folder. I can't start it up via disc as I do not have the disc that came with the mac :( .

Di you try restarting and booting whilst holding down the command and R keys? Or even the command, option and R keys (assuming that you've a 2011 model)?
Some 2011 models came with discs as they shipped with Snow Leopard. Those that shipped with Lion had no discs. If your machine originally shipped with Snow Leopard, you can call Apple, with the serial number of your MBP handy, and order a set of model-specific discs (cost is, I believe, around $25 with taxes and shipping).
Please 'call back' and let us know if you've tried booting either to your Recovery partition or to Internet Recovery.
