No Mavericks Still!

Hello, fellow user of Apple?  I use an iMac from mid-2011 with 4 GB of RAM.  My computer uses Mac OS X v10.8.5, well.  But I've _never_ been able even to get Mavericks.
Always [multiple times per day, over the past 2-weeks at-least] I see this:  "Your request is Temporarily unable to be processed.  Please try again later." [Temporarily feels more-like Permanently!  :-( ]
Lately I've been thinking that at the _root_ of my trouble is my Internet Service Provider.  I use Charter Communications in Asheville, NC.  So I wondered whether another user of Charter got Mavericks?  Already I called Charter, but the man whom I spoke with had never heard of Mavericks.
On the web at Charter I asked, "Has anybody gotten Mavericks?"  But that gave me nothing of use.  Darned automated service!  [Thank you, Minimum Wage.  Customer Service falls through the-cracks. Boom.  :-( ]
Please understand that I'm in No Hurry to get Mavericks.  Doing-so has become an item to pursue in my spare time.  :-)
Maybe you have a reply, please?  Thank you.

Some folks resolve download and other connection issues by using either OpenDNS or Google Public DNS services. The best use is to use it as the DNS configuration in your modem/router/gateway device, but often the configuration in the computer or iOS device will over ride the other configuration if you don't have access.

  • OS X Mavericks still says download after installing it

I recently downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks on my new MacBook Pro without any issue. But in the app store in my purchases, everything says installed but the Mavericks still says download as if I didnt download it. I checked in the Apple menu and it says OS X 10.9, and I got all the apps that came with it so it is installed. I press in download just for curiosity and it started downloading the wholw 5.20 Gb of Mavericks OS, but is like crazy, it says downloading, 200 mb then it goes back to 10 mb then it goes to 300mb and goes back again. In the launchpad there's an invisible icon that says downloading and also goes back and forward again and again...Anyone can tell me whats going on? Help!
    Thanks

Oh ok, but how do I stop that download? I cannot even pause it. Its like crazy going back and forward. Tried signing out the app store but still there. I've seen other macs of my friends and theirs say installed.

  • MacBook slow after upgrading to mavericks--still slow after reverting with time machine

After upgrading to Mavericks OS my 2012 MacBook became slower than ever before. My MacBook was freezing and the beach ball kept appearing. This seemed to be something a lot of people were experiencing with Mavericks, so after other suggested didn't work, I decided to just revert to Mountain Lion using Time Machine. But my mac is still slow--I now avoid using it because it's such a huge hassle. I have 8 gb of RAM, 5.5 gb of which is free. ~98 % of the CPU is idle.  Have no idea how to get my computer back to how it used to be. Any suggestions?

Resetting SMC could solve the problem, if you didn't yet.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
Or clean install of Mavericks could solve the problem.

  • Mavericks still spinning beachballs after 6 months.

It's driving me mad. Spinning beachball for even the slightest action like clicking a folder to open it (takes 5-15 seconds), fan comes on all the time, Mail app takes 5 minutes to load and slows everything down, using an application like Lightroom is now a nightmare with delays even selecting photos to view. I want my nice Mac back.
i've run EtreCheck as recommended. Does this provide any clues? Tried restarting in safe mode.Thinking my next move is to reinstall Mavericks.

I see two issues right away that are causing you problems. Clean My Mac and Genieo
However, I also see a lot of failed Kernel Extensions. I suspect you have a lot of older files that are still trying to run.
The forums are full of users with computers that no longer work correctly after running these so call 'cleaners' (Memory Clean, CleanMyMac, and MacKeeper). Do not install any third party so called Mac cleaning utilities. They can do harm to your Mac.
See this thread for removing Clean My Mac
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25680635#25680635
    Genieo - how to remove:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/art/
    You have two choices.
    1) try to fix by removing all the old files and repair damage done by clean my mac
    Or
    2) Do a clean install of Mavericks and bring over only your personal files.
If you want to prove to yourself that it would be worth while to do the clean install, we can setup a small 20 GB partition for Mavericks and you can test Mavericks out without all the baggage in your current install.

  • Mail Mavericks still does not start without crashing

I've updated Mavericks and also installed the Mail update but my mail app is still crashing, can't start it without crashing.
I have 3 gmail accounts that use the mail app...everything was functioning fine before Macericks...Also if I try to go to Online accounts in system preferences, system preferences crashes.
    Anny suggestions?
    Best regards,

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why does Mavericks still show as not installed

I did a clean install of Mavericks from usb and in the MAS, still shows that I have not downloaded Mavericks.  Grey button still says 'download'.  See screenshot. Is there a way to have it change to 'installed', so that MAS recognizes that it is downloaded and updates automatically when 10.9.1 drops?

    Hello Jay,
Thank you for your question.  Unlike applications purchased from the Mac App store, Mac OS X will show "Download" even after it has downloaded.  This is beneficial if you need to install Mac OS X onto an alternate drive.
If you have installed OS X Mavericks, you will still get the software updates even though you see the word "Download" by it in the Mac App Store.  As long as you see Version 10.9 in About this Mac, you are currently up to date:
From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac. The About This Mac window shows your OS X version number.

If you want support form Apple you will need to ask Apple directly (Applecare or via a one to one contract etc). This is a user forum, we are just other users (with the occasional 'Apple communities employee' that is indicated in their header).
You have a CS2 startup item installed - as the report states these are no longer supported. Remove it from /Library/StartupItems/AdobeVersionCueCS2 or look for instructions on removing CS2 completely - it may have other background jobs or frameworks that are still installed (I can't see any background jobs, but there is a CS2 pref pane).
Logitech Control Centre appears to be out of date?
    https://support.logitech.com/en_gb/product/3129
Get the version that was designed for 10.9 or use another app (ControllerMate, or maybe Steermouse?).
It is running 2 system level extensions and a system level background job - not a good way to have a stable OS.
iAntivirus was released in 2009 & has been retired since 2012 (assuming I have the correct software).
    http://www.pctools.com/kb/article/latest-release-and-download-information-324.ht ml
Remove that or make sure it works with 10.9 Roaringapps.com will tell you what seems to be compatible.
You must look for the official uninstallers or correct removal instructions, otherwise you will leave items behind that may still effect the OS.
ClamXAV http://www.clamxav.com is a free Antivirus app that you can run on OS X.
How old are Aladdin's software, TrackBallWorks & MouseWorks ? <- Again update or remove if they are not sported on 10.9.
DivX has a background job that looks 'suspicious' to me – com.divx.agent.postinstall.plist.
A 'post install' job should normally run once & then clean up after itself. Perhaps that should be removed too? Look for removal instructions or at the very least install the latest version & check that job goes away after a few reboots (run EtreCheck again).
You should also consider disabling the Safari extension (see if it is better). Then look at removing or updating the internet plugins - running old ones will not help Safari.
Once you have cleaned up the old junk it should be more stable. The other option is to backup & erase the HD & reinstall a clean 10.9 then reinstall the latest apps (that you need). It may give better results, your Mac doesn't look too 'infested' with old stuff, but it is running software that was not designed for this OS.

  • Is Mavericks still available for download?

In a pre-press (work) environment, we still have 3 Macs that are not up to date. Is there a download link somewhere on the apple website where we can download and install Mavericks OS?

I spoke w/ applecare tech, and he pointed me in this direction, to bring the remaining prepress macs up to date w/ Mavericks:
Creating a bootable OS X installer in OS X Mavericks
This can be used on any mac w/ OS 10.6.8 already installed.

  • Mavericks still available?

Is it still possible to download OS X Mavericks? I need to update a lab environment to access a couple new apps without losing compatibility with other existing software (OS X Yosemite is not compatible). Thanks in advance!

    Unless Apple says otherwise, no.

  • Illustrator CS6 crashes in Maverick, still... what to try next?

After installing Mavericks my Illustrator CS6 started crashing. App starts just fine, and I can work sometimes short periods, sometimes longer periods before the whole system crashes and restarts. I have updated Java, updated wacom drivers, have no 3rd party plug-ins installed, checked that the speech recognition is not on... to no effect. Any ideas what I could try to get rid of this highly irritating feature that stops me working efficiently?

    ODO,
Did you make a full reinstallation after installing Mavericks?
    That would be needed.
In cases like this, it is best to do it the full three step way:
Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • AE CC on Mavericks still cannot open AFTER 12.0.1 Patch

I have had CC for a couple months, registered and activated and no longer in Trial mode. I upgraded to Mavericks, and downloaded the 12.0.1. Patch. When I opened AE CC, it gave me the message:
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/Chitty/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.0/Workspaces.419.1407351712202401.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'.
It then failed and quit. I even tried copying the 11.0 Workspaces.xml into the 12.0 folder, which solved that error message, but then it froze and was unable to create "....Preferences.xml" and and whole host of other XML files. It seems to lack permissions to write files into my Library folders, or something like that. I've tried compeltely uninstalling, re-installing, signing out, signing in, and every other imaginable combination of resets to get this to work, and can't. I'm on a 2009 Macbook Pro, and I believe I upgraded straight from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.

Mac OS has incorrectly set the permissions for some files.
When you upgrade a Mac OS (as opposed to installing the new version fresh), Mac OS will _often_ set permissions of folders and files incorrectly.
You'll see this problem in programs like After Effects in the form of error messages saying that a file can't be written, overwritten, or renamed.
To fix this in the case of After Effects, go to the preferences folder and set the _entire_ preferences folder ( /Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.0/ ) and all of its contents to be writable, not read-only.

  • Help! Maverick still won't install.

MacBook Pro 2013. Have had Maverick downloaded for months, can get to screen that says "Select disk to download to", shows hard drive icon with >3GB available. Won't let me select disk or advance. When clicking icon, says "this disk is used for timemachine back up" which is not true, I use an external hard drive for this. Driving me bananas.

Delete the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume on which you're trying to install.

  • Is finder in Mavericks still operating slowly for you?

I have several Mac computers, one a macbook pro (mid-2010) and another a 2013 iMac 27". Finder takes forever to load my files for viewing. It's obviously faster with my iMac but it is still slow overall. I just want to know if this is a problem for others after the most recent update. I couldn't find mention of it after Novemeber 2013.

Here's a test to try: turn off all networking, including WiFi and unplugging any ethernet cords to your computer. Now see if Finder doesn't dramatically speed up. If this helps, than you can make the following configuration change so that you can turn networking back on and still keep the speed.
Note: This will involve editing a configuration file in the Terminal using VI editor (or other programming editor; DO NOT USE TextEdit). If you aren't comfortable doing this, try finding a computer programming buddy to help you out.
    1. Open a terminal window
    2. Run command: sudo vi /etc/auto_master
    3. Enter your password when prompted.
    4. Find the line in the file:
    /net                    -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    5. Insert a '#' character at the start of the line to "comment out" the line.
    6. Save the file and quit (e.g. 'ZZ').
Now, with networking turned back own on your computer, see if Finder does not respond quicker. If this has not effects, undo the edit and let me know. There are a few other things to try.
    Good luck
    John

  • ICal in Mavericks - Still sending multiple invites for adding additional invitees

So is there an answer to this problem?
How do I add people to a meeting without sending out a mass update to all the prior invitees?
Similarly, on my iphone I have accidentally held down the invite and dragged it to a new time...it immediately auto-sends out a new invite...then when I moved it back, it sent out another invite.  So the poor attendees get like 3 re-invites to the same meeting for a simple mistake on my side that they should never see.
WHERE IS THE OPTION ASKING "WOULD YOU LIKE TO RESEND THIS TO ALL CURRENT ATTENDEES?"  (with a yes and no check box)
