No media in library

Everyday i open iTunes i am use to seeing is my library. Now everyday i open itunes all i see is icoud purchased items, my music is in the folder of itunes>music how do i stop this from happening and what is wierd is icloud is always on i normally switch off icloud i have to manually put my music from the folder to itunes which takes a long time to do its really ******* me off as i spent some hours making a playlist for a friend to find it gone the next day ive downloaded itunes the latest version

There appears to be an issue with AVG anti-virus at present. If you have AVG I recommend that you remove it and install an alternate anti-virus such as Microsoft Security Essentials before attempting to restore the library or your efforts are likely to be wasted.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
If you have a backup of your iTunes library then simply restore the iTunes Library.itl file from that backup into your library folder. Otherwise in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade. Note that the .tmp files may represent other iTunes files than the .itl, or may be incomplete, so you may need to try a few in order to find one that works, or you may not find one at all.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created, or just add the media folder to the library. iTFW may be able to preserve ratings & playcounts if files have been renamed and therefore moved since the backup was taken.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • How to recreate list of media or Library in iTunes and link to Apple TV (1st gen)

    Here's the scenario:
I have the iTunes folder pointing to an external device (Time Capsule).  I have most, but not all of my media content on the Time Capsule, as my MacBook Pro only has a 122GB drive. (Yes, I have been warned that changing the iTunes folder has consequences, but I'm sure iTunes is still happy I'm buying content.)
I also have different content purchased on the Apple TV which is not on the Time Capsule, or on my MacBook Pro.
Upgraded iTunes to 10.4.1 & result -  list of media AKA 'Library' (TV shows & Movies) was reduced to nil.
(Thank you Apple - not what I expect, although iTunes is the most obscure piece of software I have ever used.)
I re-added all the Movie and TV content stored on the Time Capsule to the 'Library' in iTunes, called "MyLibrary".  I am unable to add the content on the Apple TV to that same library.
When on the Apple TV I can view all content stored on the Apple TV.  It currently is linked to an old library and it is greyed out on the Apple TV.  I am afraid to disconnect it in case the information in that library indicates that the content has been synced, in which case that content will be 'removed' from the Apple TV.
The 'Computer' link on the Apple TV points to a shared Library --- "MyLibrary".
If I add the shared library "My Library", I can view the content stored on the Time Capsule by accessing "Shared Movies"/"Shared TV Shows". That's good, however ...
I want to integrate the two libraries together and to copy the purchased content on the Apple TV (1st gen) to the Time Capsule.
(Just had a thought ... if I could arrange to download those purchases again, the problem would be solved.)
The reason I want to do that is I can not 'see' the content on the Apple TV through iTunes, nor do I have a duplicate copy of all that content on the Apple TV should the Apple TV storage fail. Also, I cannot connect to the Apple TV through iTunes except through the Shared Library "My Library", which now only contains content on the Time Capsule.
I know this is complex, but for those of you who understand the innerds, do you have any suggestions?
    Thx
    Moira

I'd strongly suggested posting this in the ATV forum if you haven't already.

  • Locate my media and library on a different drive letter

I am using the latest iTunes for Windows.  I have my media in "Z:\Music\My Music CDs\" folder and sub directories, while iTunes library is in "Z:\Music\iTunes".
I haven't consolidated the media inside iTunes because I prefer to create/edit my MP3's using other software.  All my media are from my collection of CD's.. nothing purchased.
Anyhow,my music tracks inside iTunes library (in "Z:\Music\iTunes") have a path like "Z:\Music\My Music CDs\Blues\Elmore James\Let's Cut It\abc.mp3"
I would like to move the Z:\Music\... to a new computer.  However, the drive letter on the new computer for media is Y.
I copied the files over to Y:, installed iTunes on the new computer, opened the .itl file, now residing in "Y:\Music\iTunes\".  However, my media links in the iTunes library point to "Z:\Music\My Music CDs\", whereas, the actual files on the new pc are in "Y:\Music\My Music CDs\".  While the content shows up listed iTunes, every file is considered "missing" by iTunes, who asks me to locate the file.
How do I copy my media and library, from "Z:\Music\.." to ""Y:\Music\.."?
    Thanks.
    Aloke

The user tipMake a split library portable should how you can transform a working library into a portable shape, but still keep your own personal internal folder structure, however in this case it may be easier to simply reassign the drive letters.

  • Why can't I get my songs from the computer in our media player library, (ripped from a c.d., ) to sync to the iPod?

Why can't I transfer my music on my computer, media player library, onto the iPod touch? it won't let me sync the songs.??

One thing to consider is this ...what are the files formatted in ? If you ripped your CD's via Windows Media Player default settings , they're in 128k Windows Media Audio files . These files must be converted by iTunes before being allowed into the library .

  • Ipod Touch won't export my Windows Media Player library music automatically

My wife attached her Ipod touch, whilst linked thru her office PC to iTunes and it immediately and automatically started to transfer her Windows Media Player library onto the iPod....we tried the same by attaching my Touch to my laptop but there appears to be something preventing export from Windows MP - can anyone give me any tips as to what it might be and how i can turn it off?
Incredibly its my first ever purchase of an iPod and it was bought in advance of a week's holiday on 3rd April (next week) and i'm gonna be so disappointed if i cant take my music ! HEEELLLPPPP !

do you know what format the songs are in?

  • Backing Up my DVDs to Media Center Library

    Hi!
I'd like to backup my DVDs to my Media Center library, so they are safe and sound.
I have a handicapped son who is frequently in the hospital, and likes to watch movies on my laptop while there or waiting for doctors appointments.  It would also be convenient to have them on my laptop for him, as well as just to keeping them safe from him!  :-).    BTW I'm using a HP Pavillion DV6-2190 with Media Center Windows 7.
Can anyone help me with what is the best way to get the DVDs into my Media Center DVD library?  Also, it would be great if I could make copies of the DVDs so I can keep the original and give my son a copy in case he damages them.
    Thanks for any help!
    Lisa

Yes it is. Basically, what happened was, I plugged my phone into the computer, clicked transfer purchases after iTunes came up, it had the loading bar and the message said "waiting for changes to begin" or something along those lines. I just recently tried to transfer them again, it went farther this time but now it is just saying "waiting for items to copy"
I am signed in with the only account I ever use to purchase anything with.

  • Add media to library by cutting it, not copying

    Hi everyone,
I wanna get back to my roots and use iTunes again to play music on my Windows 7 machine. My music collection is very large (~ 150GB) and because I don't have too much free space left, I don't want iTunes to add the music to its library by only copying it (because then it would take more than 300GB space on my hard drive which I don't have), but by cutting it, so it completely moves the files from one place to another.
I don't find an option for that. Can you help me?
    Regards,
    Jonathan

One option would be to simply move the files you want to add into iTunes into the *Automatically add to iTunes* folder. Alternatively disable the option *Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library* under *Edit > Preferences > Advanced*. You can then import the files leaving them where they currently are. A third option is to arrange the files the way you want them inside the iTunes Media folder before adding them to iTunes. Use this if you want the benefit of a portable library while maintaining your own file & folder name structure. (Turn off *Keep iTunes Media folder organised* if you want this)
If you've already used the second option above but want to consolidate the imports then I've written a script called ConsolidateByMoving which is designed to do pretty much what it says.

  • Songs are not showing up in my Windows Media Player Library

So the title says much of it, but I have music that I downloaded through the Itunes store that is not showing up for some reason in my WMP library. In fact, the vast majority of my songs do not show up in the library. I did not rip any of the songs, seeing
as I don't even know what ripping is or how to do it. I use Windows Media Player more extensively than Itunes, so it is really frustrating to not have most of my music useable.

    Hi,
Based on my research, if the extensions of the music are m4a, Windows Media Player cannot play them.
    More information:
Information about the Multimedia file types that Windows Media Player supports
    Cannot Play "m4a" Songs
on Windows Media Player or Movie Maker, Songs Purchased & Downloaded from iTunes
WMP Does NOT recognize m4a As Music
    Hope this helps.

  • Question about moving iTunes Media folder/library

    Hello,
I'm responding to the article listed here: iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder - Apple Support that describes moving your iTunes media folder. I have a massive music library/playlists (over 350 gigs and growing). I'm planning to relocate my media folder to Dropbox because I have ample space there and it will allow me to run my library off of multiple computers (though not at the same time). My question is this: if I follow the steps and consolidate and relocate my library to the new Dropbox folder, will all my new uploads and downloads/purchases/imports also start automatically going to this newly specified location? I want to make sure that it would.
    Thanks

Well the way that Dropbox works for me (just documents and data, not iTunes) is that I have a complete copy of the files in my Dropbox folder on my computer at home, and at work, and in the cloud on Dropbox's servers. Each time I update one of the files it is uploaded to Dropbox and then downloaded to the other client machine. When using another computer I can access my files from the Dropbox web interface, or use the Dropbox app on my iPad. It sounds like you are hoping that you can have all of your files in the cloud, and only in the cloud. I don't think it works that way.
For 350Gb and growing I think that realistically you need to stick with local storage. I clone my library to a 1Tb portable drive which I physically take to and from work, At each location I use SyncToy to synchronize the local and portable copies of the libraries effectively giving me three parallel clones of the library at all times.

  • Add Media to Library

I have a large  library of sound effects on my computer and I was wondering if there is a way to add them to the Final Cut Pro X library.
I mean the one that contains the standard media.

Alternatively disable the option *Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library* under *Edit > Preferences > Advanced*. You can then import the files leaving them where they currently are. • I can't transfer unprotected music from my Windows Media Player library

I'm tryng to transfer my unprotected wma file to itunes library. I tried importing and add file or folder from "file" in I tunes. I tried placing " My Music " file on the desktop and then drag it to itunes . I transfered the WMP library once , but lost it when consolidating libraries in itunes. It converted the files and I downloaded them to ipod nano, then lost them again. Anyway to do this without burning to CD would be great. Thanks

What format was the music in? It would be either MP3, WAV, or WMA, it could in theory but in your case unlikely be also in AAC or Apple Lossless. iTunes does not support artwork in WAV files.
When music is added to Windows Media Player from a CD, typically the album artwork is not put in the music files itself but is instead stored as separate JPEG files in the folder the music file is in, this might explain things. I have not tried WMP12 but with older versions the quality of the album artwork was very poor so getting new artwork from the iTune Store as described by zsnow would be a better choice anyway as the iTunes Store has artwork at 600x600 pixels which is (was) three times as good as WMP.
If the iTunes Store does not do all the tracks and you still need to do some, you can either look for the JPEG files I mentioned and use those, or use Google to search for images and copy and paste them in to iTunes.

  • I can burn CDs from Windows Media Player, but not from itunes.  I always get Error 2131.  How do I transfer music files from itunes to Window Media Player Library?...or convince itunes to burn a CD?

    Cannot burn CD from itunes.

The thing is, they are in the unprotected format? (
They are protected WMA from when you RIP'd them with WMP. iTunes will not read them.
Go to WMP Tools -> Rip Music.
Under Rip settings, it is set to *Windows Media Audio* and most likely *Copy protect music* is ticked. This is how it is protected.
You will need to reRIP them all from CD.
