No menu audio!

Apple! Why didn't you fix this problem from iDVD in iLife '08?! If anyone can help, I have tried to follow both fixes in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5229563&#5229563 but to no avail. I have clicked endlessly on the audio icon in the menu inspector and nothing has happened. I then installed the dev tools and opened the package contents in Property List Editor and this won't work either.
As it stands, I have absolutely no audio in my menu. Apple, you got my cash...give me my money's worth and fix this!!

Hello !!
I'm new to the MacWorld and on this forum but it has indeed been helpful today!
I had that very same menu audio problem, ad the other thread (see link above) has the solution, but it looks a bit more tricky on iDVD 09.
To cut a long story short :
On the previous iDVD:
On the "dropzone" window, there is a drop zone on the side corresponding to the menu background. This is where the mp3 file should be dragged. BUT before that, you must click until you can (very hardly) until the little speaker icon has bot the little wave bars in front of it, in order to 'unmute' the menu. Then drag the file.
On iDVD 09 :
Do exctly the same, but instead of looking for little wave lines, stop clicking when the zone is framed with a blue line. This is when you can drag the mp3 file.
WATCH OUT :
In case you want to add the sound of a Quick Time sequence to your menu, but without the video :
If you drag the MP4 file on the main window dropzone, the video will be played in the background of the menu. Now we don't really want that, do we?
Open the inspector when nothing in particular is selected on the menu. There is a speaker zone under the title "sound". This is where you drag the MP4 sequence. The sound will be played, but no video
If this can be useful to someone...
Sorry if my english is a bit iffy, it's not my first language
Cheers

  • Use movie audio as menu audio

    Hello,
I'm using iLife 09 and I created a movie in iMovie which I imported to iDVD. I'm just using a simple one step menu for the top level of iDVD. I filled the Dropzone with some clips from my movie. What I can't figure out is how in the world to get the audio for the menu to be the audio from what's on the screen. In other words, part of my iMovie is playing in the menu. I just want that audio to be playing, in sync, while the menu is up. Any ideas? Thanks

You could open the menu preferences where the audio bin for the menu is shown and drag the movie file from the Media Browser into it. But that would add the entire playing time of the movie to the iDVD's project playing time and might put you over the time limit.
You can open the movie in QT Player 7 and use the File ➙ Export menu selecting Audio to Aiff option. Then open the new file again in QT Player and crop out the audio you don't want and save. Add that aiff file to the menu audio bin.

  • How do I stop the Menu audio from restarting with each selection?

I have modified an Encore (CS4) menu in Photoshop so that it has 10 animating video thumbnail buttons, a 1:30 music file, subpictures on the thumbnails to highlight what is selected, and I routed the buttons to go in the order I wanted.  When I initially made the menu I didn't have subpictures or customized routing.  The music played continuously and each of the thumbnails animated.  Now that I have added to it, every time a different thumbnail is selected, the music starts over from the beginning, like it is tied to the selections, and I don't want that.  Have I missed selecting or deselecting something somewhere?  Everything else is fine.  The thumbnails still animate, the subpictures highlight in a different color, the routing is the way I wanted...just the audio file is holding me up.  Thanks.

Are you using Auto Activate on any of the buttons?
Is this a preview-only issue or does it appear on a burned disc?
Try deleting the menu audio, saving your project, closing and re-opening
En, then adding the audio to the menu again.  Any change?

  • Menu audio level control

I am having a hard time with the volume of my main menu audio. When I import the track I want to use and drop it in the top menu, I have no way of adjusting the volume. I usually mix all of my audio in final cut to a maximum of -12db.
The volume appears to be fine when I'm authoring the disc. I go from the main menu with sound to the tracks and the audio appears to be at the same level. However, after producing the finished DVD, the menu audio is usually way too loud. I would say it's at least 12 db hotter than the program material. Hence, when you navigate back to the main menu from the tracks, it's way too loud.
    Any clues, anyone???

    David:
That's probably a difference in the encoding of your tracks and menu audio. What audio format are you using for your tracks: AIFF or AC3? Or are you encoding your assets inside DVDSP?
There is no way to adjust the volume inside DVDSP, you must edit your audio level in other app before importing it (FCP, Soundtrack, etc).

  • Menu audio will play during preview but not when disc is burned.

    Encore CS6.
Menu music plays fine in preview. I know that the file is good. No menu audio after disc is burned. Have tried several different transcoding options. There is menu video too that is working fine.

Here are notes I couldn't find before I posted that; just general re testing methods:
Mounting an iso (or building to a folder) is a great way to test.  There are some differences, but it is a great method prior to burning to a disk.  The main difference is simply computer vs dvd player - autoactivate on a button doesn't work with a mouseover, and you can be fooled into thinking your navigation does, or does not, work.  (Even on the computer, don't use the mouse for testing, use the "remote" in the player controls.)
Encore preview is an emulator, like computer DVD players, that attempts to predict what will happen when a disk is played on a set top DVD player. It has always had issues with some predictions not being accurate. Some inaccuracies are like this one: Encore preview does not work, and a burned disk will. Others are the opposite; it works in Encore preview, and not in a DVD player. The point to be made here is that you cannot rely on Encore preview. You also cannot rely on computer playback of a built image or folder. And, in the end, you cannot rely on playback on one DVD player - some disks work on some players and not on others.

  • Encore Menu Audio Glitch in Blu-Ray

I've been trying to burn a BRD in Encore for several months now and have not been successful as yet. I can burn a disk in Blu-Ray with operating menu and everything is fine -- except - I cannot get the menu audio to play for more than 10 seconds.  I've tried using a custom menu made from Photoshop, menu from the Encore Library.  I've tried converting the audio from mp3 or wav to AAC format.  I've tried using Adobe Media Encoder to encode the audio.
I do not have these issues when burning a regular DVD.  Regular DVDs build just fine.
I have checked everything in the Encore menu properties box and everything appears to be fine. I've reviewed the training disk and I appear to be doing everything correctly.  I've tried everything mentioned in this forum -- I think.     I've tried importing the audio asset as a .wav, PCM, AC3, and mt2a.  I  My system specs are listed below.  Can anyone provide any additional information on how I can fix this?
I tried using it on my Win7 system as well, but the Blu_ray build just totally freezes the Encore program.

  • Main Menu Audio - Multiple tracks play randomly aka shuffle?

I've noticed in Inspector that I can at least add more than one track to the menu audio section, but is there any way to designate the music to play on shuffle, so that each time the main menu loads (or each time the disc itself is loaded) that it doesn't always play the same menu audio?
    Thanks!

    jlk apple questions wrote:
I'll take a crack at this. Is this going to also going to randomize the menu on startup as well, or just after a track is played and ends? (And while on the thought, is this also going to randomize if someone hits "Menu" during the middle of playing a track?)
Usually it is best ot to start immediately with a menu, something like a track with 5 seconds of black works well, but then send the end jump to the same script. You can also assign the menu command for tracks to jump to the same script. Take a look [here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/trackmarkers.php] (press F3 key to get the general view), and highlight the track and you will see menu commands for the track and each marker in the track. Set the menu to go to the script....

  • Changing the volume of main menu audio

I was also wondering if there is a way to change the volume of the audio I placed in the background of my main menu page in PE4. Once I originally created the menu (from a template), I can no longer access/modify the song I placed in it. Thanks again.

    1.  Wen you say I shoudl locate my Menu Audio file, do you mean by serching the folders? I cannot find its location within my PE file when it's open. In the same way, I do not know how to actually change the file to another one from within the program. Perhaps I can only view it by searching for it on My Computer.
When you added the link to the Menu for Audio, how did you locate the file then? That would be the same place to look now.
Personally, I would Open that file into Audacity, or other Audio editor, make the changes there, and then Save_As, maybe sticking "menu" in its name, so you'll know that it is a different file. Back in PE, I would un-Link the Audio from the Menu, and then just re-Link to the one with the attenuated Volume. Also, you will want the Duration of this Audio file to be no more than 30 sec. (I think that is the Duration for both Menu Audio and Motion Video in PE).
How can I make the menu audio fade in and out. I assume I can't do that in PE (as I can with all other background music in my project that I see in the timeline). Do you suggest Audacity for this as well even before I import it into the project's menu?
This can be easily done in Audacity. It might even have a Preset for doing a Fade-in/Fade-out. I usually use Adobe Audition, or actually PrPro (PE's big-brother), as I often do DD 5.1 SS for the Menus, as well as Videos. In PrPro, I just create a new Sequence, something that PE does not have, edit the Audio only, as needed, and then Export as a DD 5.1 SS AC3 w/ the SurCode DD plug-in encoder. Though Adobe Encore, the authoring program that I use, has no limit on the Duration of Menu Audio (or Motion Menu Video), I still keep it to only about 30-40 secs, as I assume that the user will make a selection by that time. Also, with the repetitious nature of the music that I choose, and their Fade-in/Fade-out, if the Menu is up longer, it is not noticable that it has repeated.
I use music from a company, SmartSound, and a plug-in that works with PE and PrPro, to "create" custom music from their pieces. I've marked about 12 pieces that have the characteristics that I want, and will use one of the SmartSound variations on these. I also use a bunch of their music for my Soundtracks. Though it's not a plug-in, their SonicFire Pro 5 is amazing with what it can do with their Strata Multi-layer Series of Music.
It seems that their free plug-in comes with PE7, as well as a few pieces from their library. If you do not have PE7, the plug-in is free and works with about any flavor of PE, or PrPro. The music is not free, but over the years I've built up a significant library, whenever they have a sale.
    Good luck,

  • Adding Menue Audio Track selection and soubtitles on/off

    Hi,
with some help from replies to other questions I managed to get a working DVD/BR with cool 2.0 / 5.1 sound and subtitles.
But for now I do have to select the audio track manually and also I do have to enable subtitles from the DVD/BR players menu.
So I wanted to add a DVD/BR menu where you can choose the audio track which should be played and to switch on and of subtitles.
I edited a nice PS PSD File with some buttons and they show up in Encore and I can do some "encore" editig like moving tham arrond or link to some other elements.
My question: How do I get e.g. the Button "2.0 Stereo" to select the stereo track and the button "5.1 Surround" to select the 5.1 track. An other button should switch on/off the right subtitle
Than I'd like to have a button which starts the video with the selected audio and if selected subtitle on.
At the end of the movie I like to be back in the menu.
    I bet thats simple
I thought to create different timelines and add the audio/video/subtitle, but that i have a lot of timelines in all sort of combinations; e.g. video ON, 5.1 sound ON, subtitle OFF ..... video ON, 2.0 sound ON, subtitle ON etc ....
Thansk for any suggestion . and BIG thanks. Götz

Thanks for your posting, but there is the higlight  Layer.
I opend the menue in photoshot once more and enabled the layers.
For me a button has the following different states:
Normal, no highlight, just "plain" text. e.g. "English Subtitle". in that state, the Subtitle is NOT selected/enabled.
Mouse Over, the highlight shows up, so you can see where you are with your mouse. e.g. "English Subtitle √"
Mouse left click, the highlight "sticks" to the menue item and when moving the mouse avay it is still highlighted, e.g.  "English Subtitle √"
So I'd liked to indicate which audio track is enabled/selected and if subtitles are off or on.
I thought, the highlight button states are markend with (=1) & (=3) ....
BTW. in encore menue edit mode, if I click the show selected/activated Subpicture Highlight, the right layer shows up (with my √-symbol)
But in preview mode or on a burned dvd this did not work

  • Menu audio not working?

I placed an audio track on all the menus in my dvd project. The audio track playes on every single menu except for the main one. Am I doing something wrong?

Each iDVD project only allows for 15 minutes of audio. On EACH menu, If you go into the Inspector, it will list your song and how long it is. There is a slider that shows the length of the song that it will play for that menu. hint; the "inspector" is the small little blue circle with an "I" in the middle. it's on the bottom left next to the big PLUS sign. Or hit CMD/I when looking at the menu.
I venture that you added music to the secondary menus 'before' adding to the first. Whatever the case, go to each menu, check the Inspector, see how your music is set up, and make sure the slider 'time' is adequate for each menu. good luck!

  • IDVD Menu Audio

Whilst I can add audio to my top level menu it can't be heard on playback. Audio plays ok on submenus and slideshows. I'm using iDVD v7.01

I want to report back that I was able to get audio working in the iDVD theme I had chosen. I'm not sure what happened or why, but it is suddenly working. Here are the details:
The theme I was attempting to use was an old theme (Western). From the drop-down in iDVD, I selected "Older Theme" and then selected "Western". I was prompted to download the old themes from the Apple website and I followed the instructions, doing so.
After install and reboot, I selected the theme. There was no audio applied, so I selected a suitable mp3 from iTunes and dragged/dropped. No audio.
I shortened the audio file, re-dragged and dropped. No audio.
I then began experimenting with the different audio types. No audio on the theme no matter which file type or size I used.
I followed the suggestions from this forum (removed audio file, clicked on the icon multiple times). No audio.
Rebooted and tried again. No audio.
Then I thought I would attempt to take an existing, newer theme where the audio was working and see if I could change the audio. I did that and the new theme worked.
I decided to try again so I created a new project and selected the old Theme Western again and dragged-dropped the audio file and guess what ... it worked.
All I could think was that by selecting the newer theme and changing the audio, I must have somehow got the application to "un-mute" or something like that.
At any rate, I think this is a bug and have filed a report. Hopefully, Apple will provide us with a patch to fix.
My Christmas project is finished - and just in time.
    Thank you for your help!

  • IDVD 6 Menu Audio Question

I've created 3, full-length iMovie movies. For each one, I've exported it to iDVD 6 and selected one of the canned themes. For that theme, I am able to drag and drop my own pictures for the main menu page, and for each scene selection page.
The problem is when it comes to audio. I've decided to use the audio from another theme, with the theme I've chosen (which has no audio by default). I can drag and drop that audio file to the main menu window and it works fine. The problem is typically somewhere on the sub-menus (scene selection menus). For each of my 3 movies, the audio file has created problem on either the 1st, 4th or 8th sub-menu.
When I drag and drop the file, the spinning ball spins for about 30 seconds, then the audio plays, but it sounds like in slow motion. I've "undone" and re-drag and dropped several times. Still does the same thing. I've even completed the dvd and burned it and when played on my home theater, the music for just that submenu is in slow motion.
Any solutions? I've tried changing the music from m4a to mp3, that doesn't solve the problem either.
    thx

    John,
    1) i like the separate file idea. I'll try that tonight, creating separate copies for each submenu. I'll post my results after giving that a shot.
    2) You lost me with your last paragraph. Is there a limit an the amount of audio allowed on submenus? I don't think this is the problem, because the glitch happens anywhere from the 2nd submenu to the 8th (depending on the movie I'm creating). Also, regarding your editing comment, you lost me.
The audio file I'm using is from another theme. I've done nothing to it at all (no editing). I just drag and drop the file from it's original theme to my submenu. I did burn it and re-encode it as a .mp3, but that has the same problem.
I'll post my results w/ your first recommendation later.
    thx
    Robert

  • Menu audio won't play on first Chapters page

My last project had 8 chapter or scene markers, six of which appear on the first Scene Selection page. The audio assigned to the menu on this page will not play even though the settings are identical to those on the main menu page and the second Scene Selection page. This behavior exists in edit more and in preview mode. The audio plays correctly on the main menu page and the second Scene Selection page. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a bug in iMovie or am I missing some setting somewhere?

This sounds like an iDVD issue. You are more likely to reach people who use iDVD if you go to the [iDVD Discussion (click here).|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1310]

  • Menu Audio Levels

Okay, I stink at DVD studio pro. I make the most simple DVD's. I haven't a clue so your help is appreciated.
I've added a song to my menu, but the audio level is hot. Can that be adjusted and how?
Just a note. The audio was hot importing into Final Cut Pro and I simply adjusted the audio. Can I do that for DVD studio pro?
    Mucho thanks!

    Hi Michelle:
You cannot set audio level inside DVDSP, you must import the audio adjusted to your final level. If you have your audio in FCP, of course you can edit there the level and export again, or you can use SoundTrack or any other audio editor you have.
Are you using AIFF files right into DVDSP? If so, my advice is encode them to Dolby AC3 to avoid bitrate problems in your burned DVDs. AIFF files (uncompressed audio) will take too much of the total bitrate you have available. I use AC3 files for menu backgrounds too.

  • Main menu audio volume adjustment issue

Under the Disc Menus tab, using the Ladybug menu template that comes with Premiere Pro Elements 9 and chose an audio clip to use as intro music.  I need to adjust that tracks volume to better match the core video/audio levels.  Ideas?  The audio mixer does not show that track.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum.
I think that Audacity, or similar, is the easiest way to handle this.
As I am usually doing DD 5.1 SS, for my Projects and for my Menus, I just create a Menu Sequence in PrPro, and edit my Audio (or perhaps Video too, if I have a Motion Background on the Menu), but as PrE does not have Sequences, one would have to create a New Project, to do that. Yes, Audacity would be much easier.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - even the full-featured Adobe authoring app., Encore, needs to have the Audio's Volume adjusted outside of the authoring program.
