No Menu bar. None of the proferred solutions works.

I am migrating from Windows XP to Linux Mint on a separate computer which came with Firefox pre-installed. The latter appeared to work well until the lack of a Bookmark tab alerted me to the fact that I had no Menu bar. I have tried all the solutions I can find but to no avail. Right-clicking the Tab bar, for example, yields only 'Hide Toolbars' and 'Exit Full Screen Mode' as the drop-down options whilst right-clicking anywhere else on the screen also fails to reveal the Taskbar Hide/Show options. Without the Menu bar I obviously have no Customize option and for similar reasons have been forced to use an alternative Windows XP computer to send this report. Clearly, no additional information relating to the operation of Firefox on this computer will be of use in troubleshooting the situation on my Linux machine.

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.

If you tried here and still have the problem it is time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. It is a hardware problem.

  • I cannot load one trusted website, none of the suggested solutions work, fixed Norton 360 as recommended, cleared all history, but still I get "The connection was reset", I get the website using Internet Explorer - help please!

I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) with Mozilla 5.0 and Norton 360 4.3.0.5. I used to be able to load the website URL below, but it stopped loading about a month ago. I've tried all the suggested solutions without success. All other browsing is fine, The owners of the website say that they have NOT blocked my access.

I see the same with Google Chrome.

  • Just updated - Prefs not saved - None of the posted solutions work

I just updated to 3.6.8 and found that the prefs are not saved. I cannot apply any themes and the "Firefox Updated" tab won't go away, I tried all the solutions presented here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved and none worked.
    - I have Macaffe and it was set properly
-The user.js file is completely empty
    - prefs.js and prefs-n.js do not exit in the directory
Unfortunately, nothing worked. Any thoughts short of doing a complete uninstall?
    Thanks!

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Problems HotSync'ing - none of the existing solutions work

I have had problems with HotSyncing my Centro since I first got it. I was willing to let them slide, until I realized that without a copy of my data on my PC, I may not be able to migrate to the next generation device. I receive the typical "synchronization aborted" messages for Datebook (Calendar), Address (Contacts) & ToDo (Tasks). Memos is fine. I am using the version of the desktop & hotsync that came with the device (6.2.2 & 7.0.2), and syncing to the Palm desktop (not Outlook). I have tried the "rename the directories & let HotSync recreate them" fix, but it doesn't work.I have for the past month been copying the database from my Centro's main memory to the SD card as a stop gap backup, but as I said, that won't help me move to a new device, when the time comes. I have tried dbScan, but that results in a reset of the device. I have tried DBFixIt, but it finds no problems with the databases. How can I get a copy of my data to my PC, for future upgrade purposes?
Post relates to: Centro (Unlocked GSM)

P.S. It's a Bell device (not available in the drop down) & the "new username" solutions, while it seems to work, is not viable - I have too many programs that rely on my username.

  • Invalid SIM - none of the usual solutions work

We got AT&amp;T to unlock an iphone 4 that we had used in the States and then taken abroad. Spoke with them several times to confirm the phone is unlocked.
Then downloaded latest OS, did a backup and restore over iTunes, reset it to factory settings. We have now tried 3 different SIM cards to activate the phone with, but always get the "SIM not valid" message ("only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate phone..."etc). These SIM cards all work just fine in our other iphones 4 and 4s. So - its not a SIM card issue, and the phone is on the latest OS. Trouble is, AT&amp;T say its no longer their problem, and we live in a country where there are no Apple stores (Lebanon).
Any ideas anyone? We really need to use this phone :(. Thanks.

Yeah, but if officially unlocked, updating will not lock it back again.
Anyway as said before, nothing can be done here in this forum. You have to call AT&T.

  • Firefox can't load gmail while safari can. none of the "help" solutions work. help!

see above. i've cleared cache and cookies, etc, etc, and nothing helps. this is so frustrating.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • YouTube Comments Won't Load... None of the Posted Solutions Work

I've tried clearing cache, removing cookies, even resetting Firefox.... (I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.) I still keep getting the "loading" icon with the circle dots cycling in the YouTube comments. I included the "troubleshooting information" below.
I've spent about five hours trying to fix this. (I didn't expect to pound on this so long.) Please help. Thank you.

What is strange is in the Web console, when the comments eventually loaded after I updated to version 33, the google+api seems to be called.

  • Menu Bar: Re-ordering the icons

I have a lot of Apps which I access via the menu bar. But the order of the little icons is, well, not very ordered!
They seem to be in the order I installed the respective Apps. So, running from the right hand side:
Spotlight, Clock, Languages, Volume, Airport, Bluetooth, Time Machine, Spaces, then my non-generic downloaded programs.
How do I move these icons around, re-order them so to speak? Or is there another little app to do this?
    Cheers.

If you look in System/Library/CoreServices you will see a folder called 'Menu Extras' and contains all the menu icons that come with OS X...
There are some pretty useful ones that are hard to find normally, for example 'Eject' puts an Eject icon on your Menu Bar, there are others as well.

  • I have dual displays.  My dock is on the MBP bottom and the menu bar is on the extended monitors top.

I have a Dell 2408 acting as the main display and a 15" MBP.  For some reason, today the dock ended up on the MBP screen at the bottom and the menu bar is on the Dell at the top.  I can't seem to move the dock back to the Dell.  Can someone help?  I tried moving the menu bar to the MBP and then back, hoping the dock would follow but no luck.
    Thanks for your help.

When the dock is defined as on the bottom, it will appear on the screen of the extended desktop that is lowest.
Move the second monitor where the bottom edges are equal or the Dell is lower and the dock will move there.

  • Showing the Date (month & day) in the Menu Bar, Not just the Day of the Wee

Since upgrading to 10.5 from 10.4, I've noticed that the menu bar no longer shows the date (month and day, it just shows the day of the week.
Is there a way to get the menu bar to show the month and day again as it did in 10.4?

Tiger had to be changed in the same way as Leopard.
Start by opening the International Preferences panel, and clicking the Formats tab.
In the Dates section, click Customize. Click the Show pop-up and select your choice of Short, Medium, etc. Now place the elements you want in the small "work area," by dragging and dropping them from the Date Elements section. Once placed, you can click on some elements to see other options (Wednesday or Wed, for instance). Once you've built the date string you want, click once in the work area, and hit Command-A then Command-C to select the string and copy it. Now click Cancel to close the window without making any changes.
In the Times section, click Customize, and set the Show pop-up to Medium. In the small work area below the pop-up, place the curser where you want the date elements to start, and click to position the cursor. Now hit Command-V to paste the elements you just copied. You can further add characters and spaces to customize the look. If you want to remove an element (i.e. the year), click on it and use the Delete key. Click OK, and you'll see the results in the menubar.

Here are two "Menu" add-ons which alter the Menu bar into one button.
With this one you can move the new "Menu" button into the Customize Palette, and then when you hit the '''Alt''' key the "Menu will open down from the Titlebar on the left. Won't affect the action of the Firefox button when you de-select the Menu Bar.<br />

This one I haven't used recently, but you can play with it to see what is possible. <br />

After getting my software update for safari yesterday (version 6.0) I've lost the google search bar on my menu bar.  I've tried customizing the menu bar by dragging the google search bar to the menu bar, but no luck.  How can I get the google search bar back?

You can't. It's now integrated with the URL bar. It's a search/URL combo.

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden, so you need to hide the Menu bar to get the new appearance.<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You can place the Tab Bar on top.
    * View > Toolbars : [ ] Menu Bar
    * View > Toolbars : [X] Tabs on Top
The Tab bar only appears on the title bar if the Firefox window is maximized.
