No Messages in Inbox - Backup
Odd problem. I got my (2nd - 1st one died) Time Capsule about a month and a half ago. Shoulda checked before I guess but tonight I needed to retrieve a Mail email from earlier today. There were 14 message all from Feb. 27, 2010 and no other inbox messages in an other backup. I deleted them and re-backed up. NO Inbox messages display in the back up. Messages that I've stored in other folders are there. Just nothing in the Inbox. I did a test - sent myself a message; re-backed up and then checked the Time Machine. The message sitting in my Inbox does NOT appear in the latest back up. Why would the Time Capsule not back up the Inbox? Any ideas most appreciated.

I wish I was sure what advice to give you, but I've not seen this before, and am not real familiar with Mail handling.
Is this an IMAP or POP account?
It may have to do with the type of account, and what options are specified in Mail Preferences.
On an IMAP account, in the Advanced tab, there's a pop-up for what, if any, messages to keep for offline viewing.
On a POP account, there's a popup for when to remove them from the server.
I have one of each; none of my IMAP inbox messages show up on my backups (even set to keep all messages for offline viewing), but the ones in my POP account do; I think that's because I have the preferences set to remove copies from the server one week after retrieving a message.

Basically on E72, I had messages in inbox, my folders and sent section. Once I restarted phone and then phone froze. I felt the problem was due to Vlingo application, because I pressed home button to see which applications were open that were casuing the freezing. So I restarted the phone and all messages were deleted. However my messages were saved as a backup on another memory card. So I only lost a couple of texts. But the same, exactly same problem happened yesterday. Now all texts on both memory cards have been deleted. I have now disabled vlingo to open on start up.
1. The only backup I have now is a pc suite backup of texts, as an .nbu file which I can restore using pc suite or ovi suite. However after I restore, the messaging application does not open and I have to restart phone. Also the texts inside "my folder" do not appear, only in my inbox and sent. Is there any way, of getting all the texts to appear including my folder texts? I really need the texts in MY FOLDER from the backup.
2. Obviously the above solution doesnt give me all my texts back, so is there any chance of restoring the texts, from the memory cards even though it doesnt work when I insert it inside the E72. Im hoping by restoring old data inside the memory card by opening it on the laptop or something?
3. I heard, that texts do not get deleted at all, but just blocked, so anyone know if I can unblock them?
4. Or can my network provider send me texts, that I have recieved and sent over last couple of months.
Please anything that will help, from anyone thats experienced and can solve my problem or from a Nokia technician, anyone???Hope others can help you out with ideas but you could try to recover deleted files from the memory cards using PC software. The best freeware I would try is called Recuva and can be downloaded from here http://www.piriform.com/recuva.
You can run it safely and it won't change anything on the card even if it can't recover anything - just run it and see what it finds. It provides a report of what it finds including how intact any deleted files are and the chances of a full or partial recovery.
It would be more succesful if you can plug the cards into a usb card reader.
I've never tried it with phone memory cards but I have with camera micro sd cards with some success so its worth a try

How do I restore Mail messages to Inbox
While working with my ISP on a mail problem I deleted all of the messages from Inbox and Sent.
I maintain regular backups so I have the messages there. They are located at User/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/POP-(me)@pop-server. . . .
How do I restore them to Mail's Inbox and Sent respectively?

Your answer put me on the right track but it would not work quite like you said. What I needed to do was import the InBox and the sent folders from the backup copy. This creates an imported mail folder containing the messages from the backup. Then from the Inbox and the Sent folders in the import folder I moved the messages into the main Inbox and sent folders.
On Both of my computers there is no Mail folder in the Home/Library. It definitely is located in the User/Library folder.

I have an iPod Touch version iOS 4.2.1, 8 G capacity, and whenever iTunes tries to sync my iPod, I get an error message saying "Mobile Backup has encountered a problem and needs to close", and the sync fails. I am getting the message that "the backup disk image '/volumes//data/ ---'s MacBook pro.sparsebundle" is already in use. ---"s is my administrator designation. I don't know what this means or what I should do. My husband and I both use the same time machine with our MacBooks. Most common message in history of the TC.. something has failed to unmount.. Lion and esp. Mountain Lion are affected.
Simple way.. reboot the TC to lose the connections..
Might take a network reboot.
That means restart the whole network from off.. start in order, modem.. router/TC.. clients. 2min gap between them.
But from 5.6 utility you can disconnnect all users.

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

In using mail with my mackbook air with maverick, to open a message takes time as if the message is downloaded & its same every time I want to open the message from inbox.

I have a proper mailing list created as the manual says. It's a small group of contacts that exist in the address book. I do not type them as CC I just write "clients" and before I finish the word the name of the list appears.
How can I stop Avast from scanning out going mail? It's the free version and I haven't found a real solution. I also tried to totally turn off the "mail shield" but I kept facing the same issues. However, I just turned it off and tried to send the mail, I didn't restart windows or thunderbird
The idea with ipage server was fantastic! It would never come to my mind!!! As far as I see, the limit is 250 mails per hour. I doubt if I have ever reached the 50% of it. I also don't reach the bandwith limits... Besides that, if I had exceeded the limit I would get multi responses that "mail was not delivered".
I want to thank you both for your excellent help so far. I'm sad to say that I still haven't solved the issue. When I made smaller lists, with the same addresses chosen from the address book I could send the messages, having a short delay. I would blame Avast but I tried the same on another laptop with my favourite NOD32 and had the same problem.
What else should I check? Should I focus on Avast? -
I have iPhone4 and Windows 7 Home Premium. iPhone can't backup: message 'couldn't backup because the iphone disconnected'. It started when i wanted to update to iphone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw and I received a 3002 error. Sync seems to work OK. Have exhausted the online discussions and tried everything. Please help
Try runing iTunes in admin mode. That fixed the issue for me. You can either right click on the shortcut on your desktop and choose to run as an admin each time you launch it or go to the advanced tab under security on the program itself and click the run as admin every time.

Hi, i've searched without success how to create a folder (in unified folders) which contains all the messages of inboxes and outboxes (as it exists in Windows Live Mail).
For me, it would be very useful to search in only one folder when i try to find something in sent and received mails.

Mail 4.1, Exchange, and Duplicate messages in inbox
Using Snow Leopard and Mail 4.1 to access an exchange account and a gmail account. The problem ONLY occurs in the Exchange account. My messages are all duplicating. Only in Mail are they duplicating. I've checked Outlook Web Access and Outlook on my windows machine - no duplicates there. Didn't start out this way, and the problem came once before, stopped, and now it has returned. If I delete one copy of the message, both messages get deleted. Is there someway to rebuild the mail inbox? or resync?
Also, tried creating a new folder on the exchange server, copying all messages from inbox to the new folder, then moving back. In the temp/new folder, the messages were single. After copying back to Inbox - they doubled again. And again, only in Mail. The msgs remain single in Outlook, OWA, iPhone, Blackberry.
UPDATE: I highlighted the exchange mailbox and went to MAILBOX > REBUILD. Erased everything but only in Mail. The messages are still on the Exchange server and can be seen by OWA, Outlook, iphone and blackberry. New messages are going to the Mail Exchange inbox but old messages are gone. Any way to get them back?

I could never have known that the default setting on mac's mail would be "remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
now, that's a valid point. this is not exactly advertised and mail setup assistant does not tell you anything about it. you can voice your concern to apple about this issue here

there isn't anything you can do now. it's not up to apple at this point. you just can't upload messages to a POP email server. it does not matter what email client or what operating system you are using.

If you want to be able to store data and then retrieve it, the you can use RMS, but if you want to get data already stored on your phone then you need the FileConnection API. There is no work around this as far as I know.

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.
