  • IPad Mail Application in stand by mood

can attachments be downloaded in an iPad mail application while the iPad is on stand by mood ? like in a macbook pro mail ?

No. You have to open the mail message and tap on the attachment to download it.

  • I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon.  After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today.   This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu.  I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application".  Really frustrating.

Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

  • Can't retrieve sent messages from my Desktop Mail application

    Hi,
Whenever I use a computer away from home to send email, I always click the option to save the sent message in the sent folder. Then, when I get home, I used to retreive those messages from the iDisk icon on my Mail, and then move that message to my sent folder on my Mail, in my desktop at home.
But now, I don't know why, when I drag them to the sent folder in my desktop, these messages just disappear. There is NO way I can move them to my sent folder on my desktop. I tried several things, but I admit I am not good at all with computers, so here I am ... It's funny because I tried to drag those sent messages to my Inbox folder and it worked, but I want to move them to my sent folder, as I used to do.
    Thanks for your help!

ok lets see if my solution fits my undertsanding of your problem.
A .Mac account is essentially an IMAP account. This means that Mailboxes and the Mail in them is replicated identically on the Server every time you synchronize (either manually or in Preferences). Mail is deleted when you do it manually, or automatically - again as part of Preferences. Mail you send through the browser should be replicated on your desktop Mail.app next time you synchronize.
If you create a Mailbox under your user account, this Mailbox is replicated on the server. If however you create an Mailbox that is "On my Mac", and move mail to it, you are effectively moving it off the server and onto your desktop, which may explain why it is disappearing.
Realistically with a .Mac account you should not have to drag Sent Items anywhere.
Because it is a .Mac account, check these things.
    In Mail.app on your desktop:
    1) Preferences/Accounts/.Mac Account/Mailbox Behaviors. Check "Store Sent Messages on the Server and then an option for deleting them. This will ensure Sent Messages remain on the server.
    2) Preferences/Accounts/.Mac Account/Advanced. Check Automatically Synchronize Changed Mailboxes if you want the Server to be updated immediately. Leave it blank and mail will be updated when you log on and off and if you Synchronize manually.
    Through .Mac
    1) Log onto .Mac through the browser - to Mail. Go to Preferences/Composing and ensure that "Save sent messages to" - (Sent Messages) is checked. Save your settings.
Send one test mail using Mail.app and then one through the browser. Your sent mail should appear in the Sent Mail folders on both Mail.app and the server, and you should not have to drag sent mail from or to anywhere.

  • My mail application is canceling my shut down request. Can anyone help?

When I try to shutdown or restart my Macbook I receive a message saying that the mail application has canceled my request. This is despite me having already quit the mail application. After I receive this message the mail application starts up again. I have tried using "force quit" to fully quit the mail application, but get the same result. I haven't been able to shut down my Macbook for a couple of days. Has anyone any idea of what's happening?

Tomfromblackrock, if you're Activity Monitor does not indicate that Mail is "Not Responding" then I suggest you hold down the power button on your machine until it powers down.  I have had this problem, too and that is the only way I have been able to shut down.
My email account was hacked into and shut down by my provider until I changed my password.  Ever since I have not been able to close Mail or shut down my machine.  Also, when I do this extreme shutdown I have found that Mail automatically launches upon restart.  I do not have it designated to do so.  I would love to know if your Mail program does the same thing.  Good luck.

  • Mail Application on MacBook Pro virtually SPAMMING MYSELF

I recently came across an issue with receiving duplicated messages in my inbox (Mail application). These messages where ones that I had already deleted recently. Anytime my email would refresh, I would receive roughly 50 emails. It would continue on and on.
After talking to a few people on Apple Care Phone Support (fantastic service might I add), I was able to get back to normal. It turned out that the "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3" file was corrupted. I needed to drag this file onto my desktop as it then created a fresh version of that file. The file was found in USERS-->HOME ACCOUNT-->LIBRARY-->MAIL--->"MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3"
Before dragging the file onto desktop, I had to completely close my Mail Application. And then reopen it after the fresh file was completed. After that, I could then delete the file off of my desktop. Voila! It worked.
I was told that this was a rare issue and hardly ever happened. But perhaps this can become useful to anyone who is having this problem and then can avoid 37 minutes on the phone.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You don't say which operating system you are using, often it can help with diagnosis if you include your operating system in your profile.
Is this a new problem, have you had mail working before or are you trying to set it up for the first time.
It may also be worth noting, that a large number of people are experiencing problems with iCloud email at this time, there may well be a problem with the servers. You may wish to wait a while and see if the problem resolves itself, before starting to fiddle with settings at this time.

  • Mail application, Silverkeeper and Lacie Firewire external drive

    I have the following set-up:
    G5 PPC iMac
    OS X (10.4.11)
Lacie Firewire 250Gb external hard disk
    Silverkeeper 1.1.4
I have used this software many times and it has worked perfectly, flawlessly even, EXCEPT for one issue.
When I am at home I back up my Mac HD regularly to the Lacie. I also always do this just before I travel.
When I travel, I take the Lacie HD (and cables) with me, connect it to whatever PPC Mac is available, select the Lacie drive as my start-up disk, and then use it as if it were my G5 at home.
When I return home, I reconnect the Lacie to the G5 and back-up from the G5 (Source) to the Lacie (Destination) using Silverkeeper with the following option selected:
Preferences/Backup Actions/IF A FILE HAS A NEWER DATE ON THE DESTINATION COPY TO SOURCE
However, the selection of this option fails to copy any of the e-mail I have sent or received using the (Mac) Mail application from the Lacie drive to the G5. For each e-mail I have sent or received, I get this:
+The message from XXX <[email protected]> concerning “RE: ZZZ” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download i+t.
This message is in the right e-mail box, but there is no header or field information of any kind, never mind any text in the body of the message.
I have no idea what this message means. The Mail application on my G5 iMac (and its 'mirror' on the Lacie drive) is set up to retrieve and send mail through POP and SMTP accounts and does not work with webmail. Furthermore, the Mail application checks for and sends e-mail automatically at fixed pre-programmed intervals according to its configuration.
What therefore does '..+.has not been downloaded from the serv+er.' mean. What server?
And what does '+You need to take this account online in order to download it+.' mean? I have to be on-line in order to send and receive e-mail in the first place, and the Mail application works perfectly when running on the Lacie drive. The e-mails all APPEARED in their correct mailboxes in Mail on the Lacie drive. Silverkeeper simply fails to back up sent and received e-mails from the Lacie drive to the G5 HD. Also, if I now (after having copied from source to destination as above) make the Lacie drive the start-up disk, the e-mails sent and received on my travels are no longer in their mailboxes, but have instead been replaced with the messages identical to that in italics given above.
Any help in solving this would be hugely appreciated. I have already lost quite a few e-mails and hope not to lose more.
    Many thanks.
I appreciate that it is possible to configure the Mail app. to leave e-mails on the server for a month after first downloading them to Mail, or to remove them from the server only when they are removed from the Inbox, but I suspect that would drive me mad. Also I have rules and filters set up to send the incoming mails to customised mailboxes that are not in the Inbox, so that second option might equate to immediate removal from the server.

Seems Silver Keeper no longer keeps up, let me sugest..

  • My ipad mail is synced to my iMac mail account. On iPad, I can only see my inbox and sent messages. I can't see any of the folders I have created on my iMac. How do I do that? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there!

My iPad mail is synced to my private email account, which I organise on my iMac. On iPad, I can only see inbox and sent messages folders, not any of the other folders in my email account I have created on my iMac. How do I get iPad to show my other folders? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there.

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

  • IPad Mail messages from Apple mail

New ipad getting 10,000 old messages from Apple Mail application (or Comcast server). How do I stop it and get only new messages as of today?

These are emails stored in the Sent folder in Mail, in 2 email accounts. Some are quite old, some recent. In addition, the Mail Inboxes were emptied, leaving only those emails that had been unopened. Those still on the server (I looked at Get Account Info in mail on different Mac to identify which) were downloaded and are in place in the ipad . In short, those lost were emails received and sent, stored locally on the ipad.
When I did the update, it said there was an error so I had to backup and restore, via itunes. I thought emails would be backed up in this proces. I don't use icloud. Thanks

  • IPad mail no message

I connected the Ipad mail to my verizon account and it was working fine.  Now it shows the information on the To, From, and Subject lines but the message does not come up.

I see that message quite often in the preview window and I believe that the message is HTML content, but I can always view the contents of the email. Have you ever tried swiping down to the bottom of the email window and see if there is a message indicating that the message hasn't fully downloaded and if you tap on that message - then the email downloads and becomes completely visible.

  • Mail application fails to indicate the number of new messages. Any ideas how to fix this?

Ever since I upgraded to to OS 10.6, my Mail application fails to indicate the number of new messages. Any ideas how to fix this? It does, indicate how many new messages arrive on my comcast email account. It only fails to indicate the number of new emails arriving in my @mac.com account.  Strangely enough, my devices--iPad and iPhone--indicate the number of new emails arriving in both accounts.

Thanks.  While you were replying to my question, I went into notifications and figured
it out.  Appreciate the quick response!

  • Recently I have been unable to access our Comcast Xfinity E-mail application in Firefox. It opens but is "frozen" so that I am unable to open e-mail messages or the full inbox.

I have been using Firefox instead of MS Explorer to access our Comcast E-mail account on my Lenova laptop for several months.
Firefox was loaded onto my Lenova Laptop during mid-2011.
I continued to primarily use MS Explorer as my search engine while accessing our Comcast e-mail account until the latter part of 2011. At that time I was urged to try Firefox when I seemed to have slow processing speed in Explorer.
It worked great, and I was very pleased with the processing speed while using my e-mail application (seemed much faster than MS Explorer).
A couple weeks ago I first discovered I could not open any of the listed e-mails in the Comcast Inbox, nor am I able to expand to a full view of the inbox instead of the summary view of only the few latest new message titles. New incoming e-mails appear in the listing, but I am unable to open them from my laptop.
I have no problem with our Comcast E-mail application while using MS Explorer on my laptop (except for slower processing speed).
We also can access all Comcast e-mail functions from our Dell desktop in both Firefox and Explorer; therefore the cause of the problem doesn't appear to be Comcast.
Any suggestions on what caused this problem and how to fix it? Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • TS1506 I have a problem opening some email attachments. They will not open in the mail application on an IPad Air

I recently upgraded from an iPad 1 to an Air. One of its main uses is to avoid printing volumes of papers for meetings, so the abilty to open attachments with mail is pretty important.
There are some attachments that will not open in the mail application on an iPad Air. Some in the same format do (docx). They do open in Mail on my MacBook, and iPad1, or if I go to webmail on any device including a Blackberry, so it is not a file corruption problem.  The problem persists on different networks. Other emails from the same sender do work. It seems to be specifically related to IOS 7 or the Mail app. Quickview won't work, nor will opening with a range of Apps which report a file error.
There was an historical problem with Apple garbling pdf files, but this is a new one on me.
All this is a shame because it is opening emails in attachments that was one of my main reasons for buying an Air.
Does anyone know of the cause? A solution?

    What about a work-around?
Ios 7.1 etc. has a problem with communicating with exchange.  There are lots of reports of problems with pdf files.
