Cannot unmute mic in facetime, I can hear them but they can't hear me?

I'm assuming that you have tried the mute/unmute icon?
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Lion has killed my built-in mic for Facetime, but not for Quicktime recording or Skype.

After updating to Lion the built-in mic on my imac doesn't work properly, the person on the other end hears me very faintly. I can't turn it up anywhere. It works fine in Skype, and System Prefs levels are healthy when Facetime isn't running.
Please help solve this, it's very frustrating.

So...the Muted-Mic issue continued to happen. I also had a variation of it, where, the person on the other end of the call heard static/crackling noise.
The static noise issue (just like the muted-mic) went away as son as I plug in the head set on my iPhone 3g...Using the head-set the other end can hear me with out problems.
The likely culprit is the built-in mic. ( of-course it could be something else, but the mic is the most likely thing...it could be loose or something).
....So I take it in to the Apple Store (Genious Bar) Twice.
On my first visit they did not exchange it...Since the issue did not occur during a 1min test call he did...he asked me to take my phone back and see if it happens again.
...of course the issue happened again.
On my second visit, the Genious suggested that there might be a problem with the SIM.
...I was TOTLLY APPALLED by this response.... Read my original post on my problem, and you can probably infer that the SIM is a very unlikely source of the problem (...also, I'm an Cell Phone engineer for a large company for 8.5 years...so I know a thing or two about how cell phones work).
    I did not tell the genious I'm a Engineer ...Maybe I should've.
After trying to explain to the genious that his suggestion of changing the SIM was not a likely solution he finally agreed to exchange my phone...The phone is under warranty if they want to debug the phone swapping SIMs etc...they should do this on their own time...not mine!!!
(he changed the phone and the SIM!!).
So if you see this issue, hope you can get service without having to go back several times, and getting the run around before they exchange a defective unit.

  • FaceTime won't use USB microphone

I recently purchased a Samson Go Mic from Amazon. Yesterday, I received the product and connected it to my laptop, a MacBook Pro 2012 13". After changing the audio input to the microphone, I was able to use Quicktime X to record a video using the microphone. Later, when I called my dad through FaceTime, the computer no longer recognized my Go mic, and only recognized my EarPods. When I unplugged the EarPods, the audio switched to the built-in microphone of my computer, and not the Go Mic. How can I use the superior Go Mic with FaceTime?

    Hello Suzanne,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have SP1 installed for Windows 7?
Is that a laptop or Desktop ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your USB Webcam ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your computer ?

  • Anyone know how to get external iSight camera sound to function on 2011 Mac mini with Lion?

I recently helped my Mom upgrade from an older Mac mini to a 2011 model, and the external iSight camera shows video but has no sound. She can see and hear me through both iChat and FaceTime, but I can only see her.
I have checked the source for the mic in FaceTime and iChat preferences as well as the System Preferences, and I can see the monitor responding to input, but it is not sending the sound.

    (1) You're welcome!  We will be eager to see how it works for you.
    (2) If iChat can't access your external iSight, there is something wrong.
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, continue with the following.
    • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the 10.7.2 Combo Update:
         http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
    (3) If your mini does not have a Firewire 400 port, also check
your connections. Options I know for ways to connect
         a FW400 external iSight to a FW800 Mac port:
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/TU942LL/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
    • To use your FW400 6pin-6pin cable, you can use
a 6pin-9pin adapter like one of these: http://tinyurl.com/ydsbb6m
(I successfully use this one, too.)

  • Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

    Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD.  I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie.  If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process.   I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package.  I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1.  This works when recording with audacity or anything else.  I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1.  There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
    OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved.  This is why I got this usb microphone lol.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Seth

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great.  I can easily change the audio input.  iMovie is silly. lol
If I missed anything let me know.
    Thanks
    -Seth

  • Can I use an external mic such as the Tascam iM2 while using FaceTime?

HHi all. I want to improve my audio quality while using FaceTime with a small group. I can't seem to make the Tascam iM2 to work. does FaceTime support external mics? I'm using it on an iPad 2 using iOS 8.
    thanks much

Troy, I beg to disagree.  I've just done a test and find that I can record video from my external USB microphone (A logitech AK5370).  Here is the menu:
I can also select the system (line) input or an input from an app which captures sound from applications

  • Why won't my USB mic work with Facetime?

I use a headset for chatting on my Macbook Pro because the audio quality is better than the stock speakers and built in mic.  For some reason today when I'm using Facetime, its only receiving audio input through the built in mic on the laptop.  The computer is detecting that there is another mic connected, and it works fine when using Skype or Ventrilo, but won't use it for Facetime.  The output works fine.  I can still hear everything through my headset, it just won't use my headset mic.  It was working correctly with my headset mic last night, and after restarting my computer this afternoon, this problem started.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • FaceTime limits the input level of the internal mic, FaceTime limits the input level of the internal mic

I can use Skype without any issue with my MBAir, but as soon as connect using facetime, my internal mic loses it sensibility (I've tracked it under the Preferences/Sound/Input). After disconecting, I can see that the mic starts functioning normally again.

you should be able to set it with the input slider in the Track "i"nfo pane

  • Facetime won't work after Lion install... No mic from isight

After installing Lion on my 2010 mac mini, Facetime won't recognize my firewire isight mic. Video comes in from the isight, but it doesn't find it as an audio input choice. System preferences recognizes it and hears your voice, but not Facetime. You can Facetime with someone but they won't hear you. Skype still works fine on Lion using the same isight (audio &video).... tried resetting PRAM but still nothing...  C'mon Apple.. Lion and Facetime need a fix here!!  I've read others are experiencing same issue!!

In Lion, neither the previous version of FaceTime Version 1.1 (258) from OS X 10.7.1 nor the current Version 1.1.1 (262) from OS X 10.7.2 can use external iSight's Firewire mic.
The firewire iSight camera works with Lion's FaceTime, but the iSight's Firewire mic is not available for selection in FaceTime > Video. One alternative is to use another video chat app such as iChat or Skype.  Both iChat and Skype can use external iSight's mic in Lion (and earlier Mac OS versions.)

  • Does mic/earphones work on MacBook with Facetime

Was trying to avoid bothering people next to me and plugged my iPhone 3G white earphones into the headphone jack on my new MacBook Pro (the latest sandy bridge 2011 model) during a facetime chat.
This caused the facetime chat I was in to either hang up, or the microphone would stop working.  I saw the same behavior with iChat.
Later I tried plugging them in with no chat running and (at least according to the control panel) both mic and audio seemed to work with the headphones.
Any idea what's up here?  Does just plugging the headphones in when a facetime/ichat is in progress mess something up?
I assume the right place to plug these in is the headphone port...do they just need to be plugged in before the chat starts?

Does AOL have a desktop version that will work on the MacBook Pro?
I was able to download and install the AOL Desktop for Mac from here >  http://daol.aol.com/software/desktop-for-mac/
The site requirements state v10.5 and up but I was able to install on v10.7.4 Lion.

  • I have facetime 1.0 and I have  a constant mute mic icon.. set internal mic preference. Makes no difference, I have iMac21  --I can hear the contact and see her.. but I am mute

Can't unslash my microphone mute icon.. can hear and see the contact.. but she can't hear me, because I can't UNMUTE THE microphone.
I went to preferences and clicked internal mic.. made no difference.
Does this have something to do with her version of FACETIME vs. mine?

Well you need to understand the behavior of h-reap or what it's called now, FlexConnect. In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

  • FaceTime - I cannot hear the other end at times and the mic now has a forward slash in front of it and I can't get it to go away

FaceTime-at times I cannot hear - no audio - the person on the other end.  The mic now has a forward slash over it and I cannot get the slash to disappear.  At times I hear the other end even though the forward slash is still there.  I believe I have checked all of the settings.

If they don't show up on screen captures, it's most likely a hardware failure. Make an appointment at the genius bar.

    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
