No microphone input at all on Pavilion

I own an HP DM4-3050US - it's a very nice laptop and I have very few complaints with it. Great job. There are a couple of problems I'm having, one much more troubling.
I installed a brand new hard drive with a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit and have 32 GB of RAM as well. Fantastic combination for performance. The problem is that I am unable to have any hardware microphone recognized. I'm not a novice. I build all types of computer systems.
Device manager shows everything installed. There should be two microphones - one built in to the HP TrueVision HD webcam and one which is a headphone / microphone jack on the right side of the unit. The system specs say it's there and I have used it before. Unfortunately when I go to the control panel for Sound > Recording I get a jack that is only L R called "InsideMobileLid Analog Jack" for the IDT High Definition Codec. I don't see the microphone listed and none works.
I installed the HP software - the Cyberlink YouCam software. The video works perfectly but no sound is recorded. I've tried to reinstall the driver software but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I wonder if it's a hardware failure but it's rare that both the built in microphone and the microphone for the sound card will both fail at the same time.
Personally I would rather not do a system restore which then installs all the other bloatware in the machine and may not work on the new SSD drive that I installed as well which is superior to the mechanical hard drive in the unit that I believe is a 5400RPM drive. It should work with drivers or it just may need service. Any insights?

I solved the problem. Oddly enough, when doing a clean install on this machine it may disable the microphone and line in. What is unfortunate about Windows 7 is that there is no easy way to see "disabled" devices.  If you open the Recording tab and then right click inside the window, you'll see a menu that says "see disabled devices." You can then right click and enable each of them. After enabling them my MD4-3050US works beautifully. This is a fantastic laptop with a good, decent battery, nice screen, good performance and perhaps one of the best I've ever had. Thanks for the support help and glad that we've got my favorite piece of equipment working again.

  • External Microphone Input?

The iPhone headset's (or similar one plug headset) microphone and headphone can be used by plugging the headset into the headphone jack. In Mac OS X, the internal microphone option changes to external microphone.
Boot Camp doesn't seem to recognize this. All I get is the internal microphone, the line-in jack, and the digital input (SPDIF).
Is there a way or a driver to enable the use of the microphone input for the headphone jack?
    Thanks!

i'll try to find a specific answer for you. ( i will post here if i can find )

  • Never used microphone input before, sound recorder window okay, no sound output.

Sound from sound recorder input goes nowhere, a sound window is supposed to open, it does not.
There is some software missing in my pavilion g7 laptop.  Media player sound is fine, internet sound
is fine, only sound missing is from the microphone input.  The sound recorder window is open and the
recording bar is moving as the input varies, how do I get the sound to the speakers.  Never used this
option before, it might be defective from the factory.

Problem solved.  You cannot turn on computer with the microphone or other audio cable plugged in.
Otherwise the computer does not respond to the inputs, you have to plug in the microphone or audio
cable after logging in and then a window will open that allows you to select the that input over the default.

  • Optimizing microphone input level into GB with a mixer

I am trying to optimize the mixer settings for recording from a professional quality studio condenser microphone (requiring phantom power) in GB. I have the options of 1) changing the preamp gain on the microphone input, 20 changing the level of the microphone channel in the main mix, and 30 changing the main mix output level. These output from the mix goes through an iMic into a USB port on my mac.
Can someone describe how to set the mixer output to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio without causing distortion in GB? When I have followed the general recommendations for setting the gain, level, and main mix output for live performances, the output from the mixer causes GB to distort, even though there is no clipping occurring before it leaves the mixer. I can turn down any of these settings and get a decent recording in GB, but I'd like to know how to optimize the settings and not just settle for something that just works.

Consider an all-digital chain of signals (for sake of the argument, in analog terms it's similar), recording at 16 bit. If at the first stage of your recording you use only 12 of the 16 bits, you're giving up half of your resolution which is important for the dynamic range that your recording has. And this information is lost forever, even if you push the signal at the next stage - you lower the sound quality.
That's why I said that taking advantage of the full bit resolution at every step of your signal chain is crucial.

  • Microphone Input Setti

I just installed Dragon Naturally Speaking (DNS) under Windows XP Pro (SP2+) and I have a SB Audigy sound card. I used to use the same sound card under Windows 98 SE with Dragon Naturally Speaking 6 Pro. The problem I'm having is that it appears that the default settings under the mixer are to disable the microphone input and to set the recording level to minimum. In order for me to use DNS I must first launch the Mixer, enable the microphone and then adjust the recording level to maximum. Since the reason I'm using DNS in the first place is because of physical problems with using my hands/arms and mousing these defaults are very troublesome to me. (My husband is typing this post). I have tried changing these settings and then closing the applications but they return to their default values.
) Does anybody know how to actually change these default settings (I'm willing to edit the registry if necessary)?
    2) Is there any way to take control of these settings away from the creative applications? (Can I uninstall all of the Creative applications and still have the sound card work?
    Help me save my arms!!!
    TIA

This is the only thing I've found to fix the problem short of contacting the developers of every application that does this.

  • Microphone input not work

    Hi,
I have a Sound blaster Audigy 2 Platinum and Windows doesn't seem to be picking up the microphone inputs. If I plug in a microphone or electric guitar the sound comes out of the speakers fine, so the ports are working but it doesn't register in windows (e.g, sound recorder and sonar dont pick it up.) In control panel the advance buttons for microphone and midi recorder are greyed out, and if I run a microphone test setup thing in windows even though the sound is coming out of the speakers, it dont register with the green bars and it says no device detected.
I've upgraded from a sound blaster li've value, and didnt have any problems with that, anyone know what the problem is?

K, downloaded and installed all the stuff off the disk.
Same thing, Windows doesn't seem to pick up that I have recording properties on the card, output of sound works fine. In mixer its set to microphone far right, and I can record in all the creative software stuff like stream recorder etc, but cant seem to get anything like Sonar and sound recorder in windows to detect anything, so its definetly a driver issue.
Any suggestions? Im using Windows XP with service pack two, and the drivers for the card show up as SB Audigy [E600] in windows, but the advanced tabs for recording options are greyed out in control panel.

  • I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

A third-party app probably cannot obtain a stream from another app. To the best of my knowledge, such a capability is not provided in the software development kit, apps being "sandboxed" from each other and so allowed to communicate only in very specific and limited ways.
I'm not completely sure what you mean by "limitations on video capture". An iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, can natively record video only through it's built-in camera, and audio while doing video recording only through the built-in microphone or mic/headphone jack. There might be a video recording app that would allow audio input from an external device connected to the dock connector, but I'm not sure.
    Regards.

  • Can I use a MacBook's Only headset port as a Microphone INPUT?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I use the Macbook Pro's only one headphone port on the left side of the machine for a Microphone INPUT as well? Is there a setting in System Preferences so that I can change it? I can't find anything.
    Thank you for the help!

    Hi Needa_Pickle
Unfortunately there is no native setting to do this and some third party applications can cause the system to "forget" the port and leave it redundant. It can be done however, I bootcamp into windows and work on that side due to the limitations on the mac, I find this a shame as its one of the few problems I have the mac. Hope this helps

  • Constantly record and analyze microphone input

Is it possible to analyze microphone input data while it is being recorded? My program needs to measure the input voltage and the program needs to procede when the voltage is equal to 5V.
    Thank  you.

The sound card can be a bit problematic in this sense especially if you change the input gain for the mic and watch out for any bass boost function being on used as this will affect the scale as well.
As for the scaling on a standard sound card, there is none as such (see article 3 below). The input
is represented as ±32767 on a standard 16 bit card and obviously larger
    for the newer 24bit cards.
The easiest option would be to generate a signal, measure it and then play into the mic input. I would suggest that the mic input (or possibly better the line input) would be in the order of a couple of hundred milli volts so if youre sure that you have a five volt signal then you will need to scale the input with a resistor (say a 5K ohm variable resistor set up as a potential divider).

  • Are iTouch 1st gen users blocked by Apple from Microphone input:

I have wanted to get a microphone to use my trusty iTouch 1st gen for voice memos. Since the 1st gen never came with a mic in the plug spot, McAlly and a few others made an adapter to input through the dock connector.
However Apple quickly changed the firmware from 2.0 to 3.0 and blocked this feature. Is there a work around for this issue. My 1st gen is a reliable unit and I would like to not have to buy another.
    Thanks, GB

answer is they don't Gen1 iTouch never had microphone inputs.

  • Microphone Input Detection

I would like to create a VI that actively detects if there is a signal present on the microphone input of my sound card.  I don't care to extract any information from the signal other than if it is above a certain threshold I set.  My vision is that I can see a virtual LED light up when I speak into the mic and it will turn off when I stop talking.  I would also like to record the "mute" events (start and stop points) with a timestamp relative to start of the aquisition.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,
I've used similar VI's available in the examples (Sound2) of Lab view folder and developed few VI's.
    Please see the attached below.
The problem i'm facing is I coudlnt initiate the record option automatically.(manually starting the VI and stopping the VI- need to be autoamted)
And even the recorded 1.wav is not similar to the library wave file available with me..
Play the library wave file attached here with...
Looks like some problem with the sound format..
Please give a proper suggestion as to how to make these two .wav formats equal...
if these two formats are equal, i already designed a comparison technique which will compare two .wav files and gives the result as pass/fail..
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers,

  • Audigy 2 microphone input issue

I'm having a heck of a time this this Audigy 2 card. I have my headset plugged into the included front panel but the default microphone input is the card. I can change the input in the control panel to the front panel but windows changes it back to the card automatically. I have nothing plugged into the card directly. When the input is change to the front panel everything works normally. I've tried uninstalling an reinstalling the drivers with no luck. Using winxp 32 bit. Any ideas?

Since posting this message, I have had several people contact me to see if a solution has been developed as they had the same issue. Alas nothing and not a word from Creative about it.
