No microphone while mix

I can't seem to get volume through front or rear mic jacks when I'm mixing li've on the net. People saying? they hear the music fine but my voice is very low. I have mic volume all the way up but no change in volume. I tried recording voice in what you here mode and in microphone mode, no change. The meter is moving in the control panel showing my voice is detected but it is not being heard over the net. Even my smart recorder meter is showing movement but still I get complaints of low mic volume. I have creative soundblaster x-fi extreme music SBO 730 witch is a oem preinstalled card but seems to respond to the new vista drivers for x-fi. Only the mic issue is my problem. I run a nvidia 680i SL chipset with a ECS PN2 SL+ motherboard powerd by a Intel 2 quad Q6600(2.4ghz 8mg cache 066 mhz fsb). Running on vista 32 bit os. I'd like to use the front or top mounted mic and speaker jacks opposed to the rear sound card jacks but will take which ever I can get to work. If you dj and have mic problems please respond. I would like you to try the following.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."  Remove driver only if prompted.
Close these windows.
Click Start, type "uninstall a program," and press Enter.
Find Skype on this list and uninstall it.
Reboot your notebook.  When Windows starts it should automatically re-install your audio driver.
After the installation is complete you will want to install Skype.  Here is a link to the latest version.  
When Skype is installed go to the audio settings once again and verify that your microphone is selected and the volume is set to max.
Use Skype and verify whether or not your microphone is working.
Post the result.

    My iPhones microphone is not working when I play the recorded videos from my device all I hear is loud cracking sounds and faint voices, while doing Skype and regular cellular calls and voice memos it works absolutely normal but when it comes to recording videos it becomes useless.

    If one of the microphones on your iPhone is not working, I recommend these troubleshooting steps:
    Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
    Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
    Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
    Turn the iPhone off and then on.
    Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
    If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.

    This seems to be a bug with iOS 5 with garageband and using external input sources.
    I have apogee jam and getting same problem.
    Also getting problems using Alesis io dock. Same kinda thing as the apogee just a little more advanced.
    Amps are going nuts when I change from one to another using io dock and also I'm grt pops and crackles where it used to be cristal clear. I want iOS 4 back as both apogee and Alesis io dock were working perfect.
    This is crap as its the reason I got the iPad.
    This seems to be a big problem.
    I'm sick of restarting the iPad (re set) to get to work.
    Apple please fix as this *****.

    Make sure you have GarageBand,s output set to what you have your headphone plugged into.
    And turn on monitoring for the track.

    It's using the current default color profiles to convert those values. This may work for some colors, but you shouldn't let yourself be fooled. If you plan on using any of those swatches in a CMYK document and then do a calibrated proof/ preflight, you sure will get some warnings about insufficient ink densities or out of gamut colors or as a minor, it will not look like anything you expected it to... It's just the nature of the thing.

  • Iphone4 microphone makes static noises while I make a call using headphones?

    I have iphone 4 32GB. When I make a call using headphones the microphone at bottom-left of the phone makes static noises when it comes into contact with anything.
    It is really annoying as I hear loud noises while my phone is on my pocket and I am making a call using headphones.
    Could you please help what could be the solution? Is this a fault with the hardware or software?

    I found the answer myself, I actually bought earphones from a corner mobile shop for £10. and they happened to be fake and do ot disable microphone while plugged.
    so the point is buy the original earphones from apple website.

  • Automation vs. separated channel mixing?

    I have a mixing question I've been dying to ask.
    When it comes to mixing, a friend of mine swears by automation.
    His technique is to put all lead vocals (or any similar sort, so he would put verse 1 & 2 and bridge lead on one channel) on one single channel and automate the level of that channel up and down according to the part of the song and obviously the volume he wants from the vocal part. He has left me with the impression that "That's how everyone does it".
    I on the other hand have never bothered with automation when I mix a song (speaking primarily of vocal channels) unless I really have to. I simply just use more separate channels even if it is the lead vocal. So for example if it's verse 1 there are three parts of the verse that I want in different volumes, I just put all three on different channels in logic and copy the COMPRESSION, EQ setting and bus sends on each. So in the end I usually end up with between 5 or 20 audio channels just lead. I can then also obviously set EQ and COMP and whatever else I wanna do on each channel individually as the need arrises.
    This to me is way faster because while mixing the entire song I can quickly get to the channel that needs adjustment and change the volume according to what I hear.
    Mixing with Automation in the described scenario by my friend is just clumsy to me and harder.
    Please let me in on your preferred way of mixing.... with automation and similar to the way described that my friend does it or do most of you also separate audio parts in to various channels as the needs arrises?

    I mostly use similar approaches to the very well described methods in Bill's response - except that first, I spend a lot of time (where necessary) to tweak levels within the vocal tracks in the sample editor. In there, I'll first remove pops, thumps, noises etc. I'll then change gain on individual phrases and sometimes even words or parts of words. I don't use compressors to replace riding a fader or automation.
    Then, once my tracks are cleaned up, I'll often use two compressors - one dealing with undesirable remaining peaks, and one dealing with RMS levels, but mostly for the sound it gives me because of the choice of compressor, not gain control. All of this apples to other instruments too - my goal is always to get the raw tracks as close to 'right' as possible before applying anything - which goes back to the recording stage, obviously.
    As I mix OTB often, automation I use is mostly to push-pull in fairly coarse increments. Using the same 'parallel' compression routing, but not actually using compression, I might apply affects to another bus, so I'm generally mixing the affected vocal track with the untreated vocal track, and sometimes swapping them for more extreme effects. As I'm often OTB at this stage I don't have a lot of options as I use the creaky old (now obsolete) Uptown automation system - or none at all on certain tracks. Somehow there's a magic that happens when there are human hands on faders during a mix, and the mix becomes another performance.
    Of course, this applies mostly to the music type with which I work - roughly 80% audio, 20% virtual instruments, so everyone's techniques will be different.

Ok about a month later the outlet on the soundcard got broken because the mic cord got pulled to hard while it was still plug into the internal soundcard, so i went out and bought a new soundcard only this time I bought the 24 bit 7.1 soundcard and everything installed perfectly only now when I try to record theres a delay in the vocals when I'm recording and I was wondering if there was something I could change in the configuration options that would fix this problem

    If your 24-bit card is Live! 24-bit then
    - if you're using ASIO compatible software for recording --> instal Asio4All drivers
    Use ASIO/Asio4All drivers with latency set as low as possible (least 5-10 ms when recording, 10-50 ms while mixing).

    I've been having some trouble with my microphone. Recently, I have been using my new soundcard, SoundBlaster Li've! 7. 24 bit The problem I am having is, though I seem to be doing everything correctly, I can't get any sound from my microphone while "what u hear" is selected in the recording options.     in playback control is for "mute" and "sec" is for "select" in record control. My operating system is windows xp and I can get sound from my microphone when I choose "microphone" in the recording options but I need to get sound while "what u hear" is selected.     Hello i'm having the exact same problem, i've tried everything u've mentioned in you post and still unable to find solutions. What i have found that works (however only for a while) is formatting your pc, this restores the midi driver but as mentioned only temporarily lets say a few days if your lucky so whatever programme it is that you use you will see the "USB device [2]" etc pop up amongst the rest of the device drivers i.e. "windows mapper" "Creative B synthesizer external midi" hopefully when you formatt your pc this problem should be corrected permenantly however i do stress that you don't get to excited that your audio device is now working.
