Not even if it tries real hard,
X-Fi Xtreme Audio
The entry-level model of the X-Fi series, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, does not actually have the EMU20K chip but is a re-branded Audigy SE, using the same family of chips (CA006-WBTLF), and even the same drivers[6]. Thus, not only is all of the X-Fi related processing performed in software, but it also lacks basic hardware acceleration just the like SB Li've! 24 bit, the Audigy SE and other budget Soundblaster models. The X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not use the same drivers as the rest of the X-Fi family, some games do not recognize it as being "X-Fi capable hardware", and the device's hardware profile resembles that of older Li've! and Audigy cards. Furthermore, users have reported that it slows down some applications and games [7] [8] [9]. Thus, even if the card is marketed as part of the X-Fi line, it does not belong to it technically, just like the Audigy SE doesn't technically belong to the Sound Blaster Audigy series. The card is not marketed as supporting the "X-Fi Gaming Mode" (but is still marketed as X-Fi ), and there are no official implicit or explicit statements regarding its having hardware acceleration or not.

You want any of those features then you're going to get a real card, not a renamed/rebadged POS.

  • Can I control external midi devices with Garageband?

    hello
I would like to control my external effects unit ,a vox tonelab.
I want to be able to change patches at certain points in a track whilst recording .
Can I do this using midi ? if so how ?
    regards
    Paul

What I know this isn't implemented in GarageBand. To work with midi and synthesizer's you have to by Logic or other similar products. Hope they will make full midi aviable on next version of GarageBand. Midi In will work efficiently and smooth. I have try with my old Casio VZ-11.

  • How to put External MIDI Device on REC and also REC audio sources?

    Hi,
I'm new at Logic 8 and i'm having trouble urderstanding how to put an external MIDI device on Rec and still record other Audio tracks.
I created an External Midi device in the Environment and created a midi track and a audio track for the device, so far so good, it all plays well.
But when i try to record the device at the same time as other audio tracks the midi device records but the audio does not, and i can listen to the audio that is getting in but Logic doesn't record anything.
Another thing that i cant understand it why i can only trigger the rec on the external midi device if it is selected?

After enabling "record" (R) hold down shift and select all tracks you want to record to. You can either do this in the Arrange or in the Mixer section

  • Audio track recording with 2 MIDI devices on Channel Spitter

I now have a turn table set running through XLR cables into an M-Audio interface, and than into a USB Hub which runs into the MacG5.
I've got the Channel Splitter Track hooked up, and I am now tryin to record 2 MIDI Devices and an Audio track (from turntables) at the same time. Is this possible ?
I've gone into the Audio Drivers and Hardware window and messed around but with no success. Do you have any advice for me ?
I am very new to this so step by step would help alot. Thankyou.

I've tried that, and what happens is the Instr track is picked up and recorded but I'm getting nothing from the audio track.
It seems that the Logic wants to read the devices one at a time. Meaning, I can get it to read the audio interface but not the Midi, or the Midi and no audio. It will not read both at the same time. ( when Logic is picking up the audio interface I can see that it's getting a signal from my midi devices but I'm getting no sound, and nothing is being recorded from the midi devices).
I have a feeling that I've done something wrong in the Audio Hardware and Drivers window.
Thankyou again for your time, I'm detirmined to learn this system. You've been a big help.

When I try to open a project, the only option for a new track is for external MIDI device; when I try to open an audio or software instrument track, I get an error message saying that "the specified number of tracks could not be created. Reduce the number of tracks to create and try again." I didn't specify ANY number of tracks. Thanks for help!

Ah.. then I suspect you just need to go to Logic's prefs/Audio and check CoreAudio...
    It has been unchecked somehow...
Also.. as an aside.. Be careful not to create such large subject names in future when posting here.. They can cause issues with replying to posts in such threads.. due to a bug in the forum software.. so please keep them short and to the point...

audio and MIDI are seperate things, and wouldn't help on any computer with any MIDI interface. for GB:

  • I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.

I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.  I tried different input and output settings but it didn't help.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hear your microphone or instrument as you play and record (monitoring)
You can hear, or monitor, input from an instrument or microphone in GarageBand while you play and record. When you turn on monitoring for a track, you hear the musical instrument or microphone connected to the track’s input. Monitoring lets you hear yourself play so that you can hear the part you want to record as well as the rest of the project.
You can turn on monitoring for a Real Instrument track or Electric Guitartrack from the track’s header, or in the Track Info pane. Electric Guitar tracks always show their monitoring buttons, and you can show monitoring buttons for Real Instrument tracks using a menu command. You can use monitoring with feedback protection to avoid feedback while you play.
    Hide
To turn on monitoring in the track header:
Choose Track > “Show Monitoring for Real Instrument Tracks.”Monitor buttons appear in the headers of Real Instrument tracks. On tracks with monitoring turned on, the button lights yellow.
Click the Monitor button in the header of the track you want to use.
HideTo turn on monitoring in the Track Info pane:
Double-click the header of the Real Instrument or Electric Guitar track you want to turn on monitoring for.The Track Info pane opens.
From the Monitor pop-up menu, choose one of the following:
Choose Off to turn off monitoring. You can hear your instrument only while you record.
Choose On to turn on monitoring and protect against feedback.
Choose On (no feedback protection) to turn on monitoring without feedback protection. If the input level is too high, it may cause feedback (especially if you are using a microphone and listening to your project through your computer speakers).
For an Electric Guitar track, you can view the Monitor pop-up menu by clicking Edit, and then clicking the back side of the amp. The Monitor pop-up menu appears with the input controls below the stage.
You should usually turn off monitoring when you are not playing or singing. When monitoring is turned on, your computer can pick up output from your speakers or monitors, causing unwanted feedback. Using headphones rather than speakers to listen to your projects can help eliminate feedback.
If you select your computer’s built-in microphone as the audio input, in the Audio/MIDI pane of GarageBand preferences, monitoring is turned off for all Electric Guitar tracks to avoid unwanted noise.

  • FMLE 3.2 and 3.1 can't detect an audio device with Windows 8.1

FMLE 3.2 and 3.1 can't detect an audio device with Windows 8.1 x64 on an MSI GT72-2QD laptop. I tried 2 different webcams but the result was the same. Both the internal mic and the ones going with the webcams work fine with other software but when I try FMLE it looks as follows:
It says that there's no audio device connected (although the mics work fine elsewhere), the dropout is blank and the audio parameters are grayed out and inactive even with the "audio" box checked. Both versions of FMLE work fine with the same cams on a desktop which has all the same tech specs but uses Win 7 x64. Running FMLE in Win7 compatibility mode or reinstalling with register cleaning doesn't help. What can be done about it?

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for the advice. It succeeded.
The steps I made was to make a disk copy of my original Windows XP disk using Disk Utilty. Then I renamed the disk copy into .iso. I copied the ISO file to my usb flash drive.
Than I started Parallels 7, created a new VM, selected the correct drive to install from (the usb flash drive) and volia, it worked.
    Finally...

  • Track levels automatically max out with midi devices since update

    Hello,
Since the last mountain lion update, I've had problems with USB  midi inputs via USB on my 2011 MacBook air.  Specifically, the volume level on each track will automatically go to the max volume setting and cannot be adjusted if I plug in a midi device.
So if I have one track that is a midi keyboard and another track that is a guitar, the tracks will allow me to play at the volume I set for a few seconds, then the track volume slider will go to max on its own.
Once I unplug the midi device, the track volume goes back to normal.

    Hi DaniBCN
What versions of software are you using? LabVIEW 8 but what about NI-VISA? . You can download the lastest versions from ww.ni.com/downloads.
What scope are you using? What bus (GPIB, ENET, USB)? Here is a great resource to comunicate with tek scopes

I know NI has a great relationship with tektronics (tek has a LV version inside the open scopes, NI has develop a specific version of SignalExpress for Tek scopes)
    Hope it helps.

  • Can't connect MIDI devices in Audio Midi Setup

In the help for Audio Midi Setup, step 7 says you can connect devices as follows:
"7. To specify the connection between MIDI devices, drag the output or input connectors above the device icon to the corresponding connector on the other device icon."
I can drag out a line from the device ports ("connectors"), but cannot find a way to make those lines "stick" to a second MIDI device or its ports -- i.e., I cannot connect devices like this at all.
Is this just me? Is this feature not yet implemented perhaps?
    Thanks!

Ok, I finally solved this. For whatever reason, I could not set up connections between my auto-detected USB MIDI devices in Audio MIDI Setup -- maybe it is just not designed for this, or maybe I'm still not understanding what to do. i.e., I could not connect my E-MU 0404/USB to any port on my MOTU MIDI Express 128.
However, I was able to configure the individual MIDI interfaces (i.e. the E-MU or the MOTU, separately), using "Add Device" and then connecting between those interface devices and the newly added devices. This was the first time I had seen the "connectors" actually "take" and connect between entities within the Audio MIDI Setup utility, so that was a relief. Presumably doing this informs applications on the Mac how the MIDI system is set up -- I just thought it did more than that, i.e. allow direct routing between MIDI devices using just the utility itself.
I still don't know if I am meant to be able to connect a keyboard to a synth using just Audio MIDI Setup alone (what I had hoped), but I certainly can't seem to get that simple config to work and will have to resort to using some additional software like a sequencer. Not my preference, but c'est la vie.
    Thanks for all the suggestions,
    Stewart.

  • T61 - No sound - Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus with yellow exclamation mark

    Hi,
I am not sure when it started but suddenly my T61 has no audio/sound. I checked the Device Manager and did see the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus with yellow (big) question mark with yellow exclamation mark superimposed on it. I downloaded, from Lenovo Support site, the 7ka114ww.exe , hoping to fix it by un-install that device, reboot it,  and re-install using the download exe file, but to no avail.
Any suggestion or help is really appreciated. Many thanks in advance
PS. I also see the Base System Device pop up after a reboot and ask to be installed ?!? That pop-up had been there for a while before the audio/sound was lost.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Maliha,
I followed your instruction to execute the exe file under C:\Drivers. After that, I rebooted the system and no more error pop up for the missing audio device. I checked the Device Manager and the Audio Device on High Definition Audion Bus disappeared and the SoundMax was shown. But again, still no sound. I clicked on TroubleShooting on that SoundMax and followed that instruction. I found out the default Sound device was erroneously pointed to BlueTooth. I made the change to SoundMax and voila ... the sweet ding sound came back.
That was a wonderful feeling to be able to fix  this nagging problem that my company HelpDesk could not help me. All thank to this forum and particular Maliha. Again, my appreciation to the valuable help.

  • Aggregat audio device with MBox

I'm trying to create an aggregate audio device with several output sources. Built-in-Audio works with DIGI9636, but I cannot seem to be able to get the MBox running with it. In the Aggregate Audio Device editor window MBox option doesn't even come up. Any solutions?

    Dear jakezzzz,
The only thing I can think of, not having your exact set up is that the word clock for both devices needs to match, and if you are using GB, it needs to be a sample rate of 44.1KHz.
I have an my16 mLAN card for a Yamaha 01v96 and it is the master word clock that all else syncs too at 48K and it works in GB, but the minute I attempt to add a device to create an aggregate mixer, those devices will not work for some reason.
I have used an RME Mammerfall DIGI9636 in my DMM G4. I really liked that unit. I was using it with Digital Performer 4.61.
Now that I have an intel machine and GB has most of what I need to do easy recordings, I am not using the RME card any longer.
Let me know what you find!
    Regards,
