No Midi-Game port on the X-FI sound ca

Before buying any of the "X-FI Sound Cards" I've noticed that the X-FI sound cards do not have a Midi-Game Port on the card itself. My current sound card "Audigy 2" does has one.
How is one to use these sound cards with a midi keyboard without buying extra devices, such as the X-Fi I/O Dri've?Is there a way to use the mainboard game port via X-FI sound card? Has this ever been tried?
Thanks!

Since the MIDI data is a sort of control data only, it's all the same which MIDI port are you using for to connect the keyboard controller into your PC. If your motheboard do have a MIDI port then just use it. Otherwise, you need to buy a USB MIDI Interface to get the keyboard hooked.
USB MIDI Interfaces are not very expensi've - street prices starts from around $40US.

Also, it's possible that you keep the Audigy plugged and use it's MIDI controller only (disable the card itself (and it's IEEE394 controller if there is one) through Device Manager and left the Game/MIDI Controller into use.

I bought an Audigy Z2S Platinum card around Christmas time, and I'm just now trying to use the MIDI interface with my Roland EP-90. I'm unable to get any MIDI input or output at all.
I found the "MIDI - General Information and Essential Troubleshooting" guide in the KnowledgeBase, and I'm not able to get the SoundFont Bank Manager to play along with a MIDI file playing from the Creative Media Source. If I'm reading correctly, my MIDI source should be Sound Blaster Audigy MIDI Port [XXXX] (as opposed to MIDI Port 2) since I'm using the game port. (Though I did try both). The KnowledgeBase article references a configuration item I can't seem to locate on my PC:
Control Panel -> AudioHQ -> Keyboard -- I only have 'Device Controls' and 'EAX Configuration' -- though I'm not sure if this Keyboard option should be the same as the SoundFont Bank Manager.
Every other function of the sound card I've tested is fully functional, I've triple-checked that all my inputs are on and not muted, and that the MIDI Port was consistent between Windows and the applications, etc. Anyone ideas what else I might try? Thanks in advance.

What type of adapter/converter do I need in order to use a round-type MIDI cable with the rectangular MIDI port on SoundBlaster cards?

    Sth,
If you are trying to connect a midi cable to your gameport then I am positi've that this is the adaptor to use. This is taken directly from the product description:
"The MIDI adapter allows you to connect a MIDI keyboard to your Sound Blaster?'s MIDI/Game port. It provides standard MIDI input, MIDI output and joystick connectors. Add a MIDI sequencer or sampler application (sold separately) and you are ready for a serious jam session!"
This is the cable that I used to connect my Midi keyboard to my Li've! card (this is prior to upgrading to an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum which has the midi ports on the platinum dri've).

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • Midi in port

I do not the info object for the MIDI IN port with a call such as this:
    MidiDevice.Info[] midiDeviceInfos = MidiSystem.getMidiDeviceInfo();
I am using Sound blaster live, Windows 98 second edition.
Note, I do get the OUT port: "SB Live! MIDI Out [10E0]" and syntheziers etc etc
Is this a bug or should I try to access the midi IN port in some other way?
I know my midi in port works because I can run my ordinary music program with it.
The call MidiSystem.getTransmitter(); does not yield the midi in port either.

The midi in port did not work properly so they just took it away (without updating their documentation. . .). See bugg report 4306928 "broken".
That the mid-in does not work seems to be a fatal flaw in JMF: It is reported in bug 4354651 which is a duplicate of 4423930.
However I have also found bug reports 4204354 and 4353646 which seems to adress
the same bug and I guess there could be more bug reports out there because of
the basic need of a midi-in port.
Does anyone out there know how we can make Sun collect all related bugs and THEIR VOTES
    into one bug report?
Perhaps more votes will make Sun address this important function - it has stopped my
ideas of a small application - I NEED A WORKING MIDI IN!!
Do not know of any third party alternatives - where are they?

  • Creative Game Port Driv

Does anyone know where to get updated drivers for the the Creative game port. The device shows an alert icon and prevents me from using a Driver Studio.

    Thanks MrSkyline.
I knew what the port actually looked like, but I was hoping that for this particular card the "PCI Input Device" was more than just the gameport. When Windows detects the PCI Input Device, it eventually turns into the gameport. I thought maybe the drivers were <EM>incorrectly</EM> configuring this as the gameport, or it wasn't a "standard" gameport (like the one on my mobo).
I was kind of hoping that if I used different drivers, then the PCI Input Device might be properly installed as my Li've! Dri've front panel (since I've not had any luck getting it to work in Win2k just yet).
But after the information provided above, I now realise that the PCI Input Device realy is just my gameport - it's sadly nothing to do with the Li've! Dri've Harsh - I'll have to lookelsewhere for a solution
Thanks though - am grateful for your reply!
(Also - I think it's very cool that the swear filter blocks the word "**bleep**" :smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy: - if anyone is wondering, the word I used was the thing that goes across a ri'ver, like beavers build Hardly a "swear word", but kind of humourous that the filter picked it up )Message Edited by gutted on 07-2-2006 02:39 AM

  • MS-6178 and MIDI via onboard game-port

    Two questions:
    1) Does anyone out there have experiences with sending/receiving MIDI-messages via the game-port of this motherboard. All audio-functions are on-board (Ac'97, Soundmax driver). Manual says it's possible, but I've never succeeded in using the gameport as a midi-device. The best thing i've ever get out of it was some kind of distorted midi-activity which caused a lot of errors...
There is nothing wrong with the drivers. No hardware-conflicts whatsoever. Midi-function activated in Bios...
    Isn't it Soundblaster-compatible?
    2) Suppose I disable the onboard audio in the MS-6178 (via Bios and jumper on Mobo): do I disable then the gameport too or should it work independently ?
    Thanks,

    Try the patch from here
You can disable the gameport independantly of the soundcard.

  • Macbook Pro 15 mid 2012 friezes in the games.

Good afternoon! There was a problem with my Macbook pro 15 mid 2012. For some time now there friezes in the games, regardless of the complexity of the game and its 2D or 3D engine.
Took it to the official service, held diagnostics have revealed nothing. Cleaned, replaced the thermal paste, and told me that just the game become more complex and the laptop does not have time for them. And finally wrote not confirmed the problem stated by me.
In my opinion I just ignored.
I suppose that the problem in the video chip. But why the forced change in the integrated chip, nothing has changed.
What has been done before the service center.
Yosimite been updated to the latest version, then as a test, was set Mavericks.
    Nothing has changed.

Забыл добавить. Проблема одинакова Windows или OS X. Игры в которых проблемы выявлены: Craft the world, World of tanks, Warthunder, Diablo 3. И если три последние чтото требуют от системы, то первая которая на видео это 2д игра для любого типа видеокарт.
Forgot to add. The problem is the same Windows or OS X. Games in which problems are identified: Craft the world, World of tanks, Warthunder, Diablo 3. And if something last three require the system, which is the first video on this 2d game for any kind of video cards.

I tried to update my sons ipod.  It has the itunes logo with a usb port on the screen.  If I restore it I will loose all his games and music.  Is there any way around this??  Please Help??

Yes, that is your only option.Yes.  You have to restore.
Try the following if you have difficulty restoring.
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2012. I have a sony DCR-PC350E . How do i transfer the video to the laptop ? I have firewire cable. But not able to find the firewire port in the video camera.

    Need help.

The DCR-350e is a miniDV camcorder.  It has a FireWire port, but it's not on the camera itself, it's on the cradle (aka "Handycam Station") that should have come with your camcorder.   You need to insert the camera into the cradle in order to capture video via FireWire.
Here's a link to the Owners Manual.  See p. 142 for a diagram that shows the DV (iLink) port on the cradle.
You also need an appropriate cable to connect to your MacBook Pro. Check your MBP to see what port(s) it has:
Some 2012 MBPs have a FW800 port, in which case you need a 4-pin to 9-pin FW cable like this one.
Some 2012 MBPs only have a Thunderbolt port, in which case you need the Apple Thunderbolt-FireWire Adapter in addition to the FireWire cable.

  • SB 16 Game Port Resource Confl

    Hello,
I know this card is kind of an antique, and I am planning on getting something new (like an Audigy), but this problem has been bugging me and I am looking for an answer.
I have an old Sound Blaster 6 PCI card. I am trying to set it up with my MIDI keyboard and Cakewalk sequencing software, but no matter what I've tried, I still have an annoying resrouce conflict in Control Panel.
I suspect that there is a problem with the I/O assignements (since this is what is seems to be the problem in Device Manager), but the card is unable to find any good ones, despite the fact that I've tried to assign some different ones under "Properties" in Device Manager.
I am running Windows XP (Service Pack 2). My motherboard is an Abit NF-7. It does have onboard sound, but I've disabled it in the BIOS. I've downloaded new drivers for the SB card, uninstalled and reinstalled the card several times, and updated BIOS files. I have even moved the card to different PCI slots, as was suggested in one of the other messages I read.
I have looked under "Resources by Type" in Device Manager, and have not found my Creative Game Port listed at all. It is listed under Device Manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, I recognize that it's time for me to upgrade this card anyway, but I'm hesitant to do that for fear of having the same sort of problem with the new card.
    Thanks!

Well, I got the Auidgy 2 ZS today and the resource conflict is gone.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
On the basis of the specifications you have given for your set up, mirroring should work.

  • How do City Building Games Run on the MBA?

    Dear Reader,
*You can skip this part if you want to directly reach my point , if you like a bit of introduction.. then please don't stop and read on*
Yes, I know... a lot of questions have already been asked on gaming and the MBA. I even looked into the whole 'use the thunderbolt port to run an external Graphics card'. But after I saw the pictures and everything you need for it, it seemed rather silly to try. Why not take a gaming laptop like Alienware, if you are into that kind of building. Anyway, I love the people who try this, but I'm afraid that it's not for me. The whole... should I take a MBA or MBP or maybe a completely different budget laptop after all, is really starting to swirl around in my brain. And not the good kind of swirl, that is. After some serious pro and con listing, youtube reviews, many... many articles... I am still not much further in my decision proces than I was few weeks back. Maybe it is because of that annoying habbit to want the best of the best for as little money as possible. Apple products are not little money, however, but if you want the best of the best... it's often where you end up. FYI... here is what I plan on doing on/with my future device:
    - daily use (e-mail, web browsing, research, youtube, vid streaming, dowloading)
    - writing (editing, pages, word..)
    - travel
    - presentation (keynote, ppt...et cetera)
    - gaming (city builders... =) )
This is what made me seriously consider the MBA. Its portability for my writing on the go needs, it's beautiful design, its fast start up, and still enough power to run programs at the same time without any hiccups. Plus, I have an iPhone and it would be nice to have my laptop corresponding with my future device.
*Start reading here if you skipped the introduction =) *
I am a big fan of city building games (old ánd new) like SimCity, Banished, CivCity Rome and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. Will I still be able to play them if I go for a MBA? If yes, can you please advise me on what specs to go for? I understand it will run most smoothly with the highest specs available, but maybe someone here can tell me if it is necessary to invest in 8GB RAM or not, or to go for a better processor. I just wish to run the games smoothly.. the settings don't have to be at their highest.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm running an early 2008 Mac Pro 10.9.3 and I'm trying to play Simcity now that it has offline mode, had fond memories of it on PPC.
It's really disapointing. I do a lot of audio on this computer and I can stretch it pretty far in that regard, but I had no idea how horrible core video support actually was. To have to turn every graphic feature to low in order to just get by with delayed scrolling and awful FR, quirky rotate and pan glitches, it's exposed some things about my system.
I wonder if a more powerful modern Mac Mini would do a better job, it would have to be maxed for audio anyways.
Or perhaps likely this is not a great job by the developers with regards to optimization? It's possible that Simcity just no longer works on a Mac. There is very little suport on EA forums on this issue from users with the same problem - as there are of course a lot of users that didn't follow the very simple instructions, which makes it hard to get a legitimate response from the support on the actual matter.

  • Port forwarding to different ports on the Linksys WRT54GS.

As you can guess, I have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router...one of the original 1.0 versions with speedbooster. Behind this router I have my standard set of machines with dedicated IP's and a set number of IP's for additional devices to acquire IP leases dynamically via DHCP should I bring them home. One of these machines with a dedicated IP is my Debian file server. This machine is headless and without keyboard. It just sits in the corner of a room and hums along. I use SSH to remote into the device to perform maintenance, shutdown, restart, etc.
My question is this. I would like to know if the WRT54GS can be configured with "unassigned" WAN facing ports (such as 7468) to forward to "assigned" ports such as 22 which is used for SSH. In this way I can leave the default settings for SSH on the Linux machine but have 7468 as the SSH port when connecting from other computers on the Internet. My goal here is to reduce any script kiddies or other malicious code from being able to target the well known port 22.
In the Games & Applications setup you can find port forwarding and port triggering. It appears that you can only forward by port range. See this link. It gives a start and end to the port range. This appears to only forward a range of ports to the destination IP which is not really what I want to do. Do I need a hacked firmware version to accomplish this?

you can set the same port number on the port range...
as for the assigning a specific port for a specific machine, I doubt if it's possible with the a Linksys router...you may need a hacked firmware for this. Or you can DMZ just on the Linux..
