No midi input since installing an application
Hello,
A friend of mine asked me to check his computer. While we were at it, we tried to make "Kontakt" to work with Logic Pro (Kontakt installs plugins which should be compatible with Logic Pro). Well, we couldn't make it working and finally gave up with this (also, I don't know Logic Pro nor Kontakt, so I couldn't give much help either).
But there's something worse: since then, he can't play on his keyboard (piano) anymore. Seems like the MIDI system has been broken somehow. Restarting the computer didn't solve the problem (I thought it could be Kontakt that might have temporarily taken the control of the MIDI system). Logic Pro shows "No In" and "No out" (since I never used Logic Pro, I don't know what should be written instead).
We tried restarting every involved device, swapping cables (e.g midi in and midi out) and checked various things, but everything else seems "normal".
He uses an interface (of brand M-Audio) to which is plugged the keyboard, a microphone and the USB out. The interface is still recognized by the Mac (both in System Profiler and in Audio and Midi setup) and the microphone works (he says the signal of the microphone actually passes thru the computer).
We also tried reinstalling the interface driver.
Apparently, the "midi out" is working: when Logic Pro tells to play a note, the keyboard reproduces it (my friend said that instrument was not part of Logic Pro when we heard it).
I'm at a loss at what we should do or check now, and that MIDI stuff is beyond me. Any help welcome!

Too bad. If you were in the north east I'd say let's try to meet and fix this.
Good luck with it in any case,
Thanks, that's very kind of you.
The problem seems over now... In the meantime, my friend called me by phone: his audio interface wasn't recognized any longer (not just the midi component, but also the sound in, etc.).
I told him to look at "System Profiler", under "USB", and he said the interface wasn't listed there. All was plugged correctly, he guessed.
We tried another USB cable and another USB port (the other one in front of his Mac Pro) with no avail. I thought the interface was slowly gone bad. I told him to try with a rear USB port and this time the interface was recognized again, WITH the MIDI input!
It's the front ports that have failed, problem solved!
Thanks to you, Jazzmaniac and Eriksimon, who gave your help!
(I don't know where to mark my topic as resolved, thought)

Lost MIDI Input since I Downloaded New Version of MAC OS X 10.4.7

15 inch Mid-2010 MacBook Pro freezing since installing Lion
I've had this problem for a while now. It started a few weeks after I installed Lion in the summer. My MacBook Pro would just freeze without warning and the only thing I can do is a force shutdown. I've checked the logs, and these freezes do not log themselves like other crashes, there is no record of them happening. I have also noticed that Apple has identified that my particular model of MacBook Pro can experience an issue where it may freeze intermittently or stop displaying video, and as such they put out an update to help remedy this, which I have installed and the problem still exists.
The freeze appears to happen application by application. One application may freeze, so I attempt to force quit this, but then the force quit window freezes, and then whatever else I click results in a spinning wheel, forcing me to hold down the power button to restart my Mac. I never had this issue with Snow Leopard, it has only started since I upgraded to Lion.
I have taken it into an Apple store, and they could not indentify any issues since there were no logs of the crashes. They wiped my laptop and suggested I try using it for a while without any of my data on it to see if the freezes still happened - they didn't. He then said not to restore my data from a Time Machine backup as any bugs that may be causing these freezes would also be restored. Therefore, I installed every application manually and only copied over my documents and music manually. For a few months, this fixed the issue, but I have noticed that it has started happening again, more and more frequently just like before.
I've also run the Apple Hardware Test that came with my Mac and it found no issues. I've also reset the SMC and PRAM to no avail.
My specs are:
2.4GHz Intel Core i5
8GB RAM
500GB HDD
Lion 10.7.3
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue or knows why it is happening, please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.
Apologies for the long description, I wanted to be a detailed as possible.
Thanks,

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?
Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services. (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.) If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature. Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath. -
Ever since installing MacKeeper on my IMac I can no longer watch my subscribed to videos on YouTube! They start very slowly and then stop mid-sentence and cannot be restarted! I am wondering if it is time to change to Maverick or try to get rid of MacKeeper. I purchased it because my email had been hacked and now I am wondering if it was a very unwise decision since experiencing these problems?
Is there anything that can be done to unstick the YOU TUBE videos?Mackeeper is the worst pile of crap you can install. A search of these forums will tell you the same thing over and over.

The password I use for installing downloaded applications or installing basically anything isn't working but I didn't change it or let alone touched it. How do I fix this? I'm on an iMac 21.5 inch Mid 2011 and Mac OS X Version 10.7.3
I've no idea why it has stopped working, but you could reset it:

Mac Mail application won't open since installing Leopard
Hi Folks,
This is my first post - I have usually been able to locate the help I need just by searching through the discussions, but haven't found anything on this issue (hope I didn't miss it). Since installing Leopard on my MacBook (2 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 80 GB HD) I cannot open the email app. (Mac Mail). The error message I get is: "+you cannot use the application "mail" with this version of Mac OS X+". Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! If you had the Mail Application stored in any other directory (folder) than the root Applications Folder, you will get this error message because Leopard installs a new Mail Application in the Applications folder.
Delete your old Mail Application from its current locations, and from the dock, and run the newly installed Mail Application in the Applications Folder and you should be fine.
This is also true for several other Applications that are installed new in Leopard. I don't know them all, but you will when you run them and get the same error message.
Good luck. Hope this fixes your problem. -
Since installing Adobe CS5 all other applications operate very slowly
Since installing Adobe CS5 all other applications operate very slowly, but it may be that the entire operating system is running slowly.
Usually with Adobe, it's the prefs.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library" then go to Preferences folder and delete or drag to the Desktop all your Adobe in that folder.
If this works, you'll need to reset preferences.
It could also be an item in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items. Remove login items with the "-", you can always add them back. -
Since installing Maverick on my 21in. 3.2ghz iMac, cannot upload to any application without it locking up, Aperature opens automatically, my printers don't work and Apple has failed to reschedule a appointment with a Tech on Case ********* in 3wks
<Edited by Host>Sorry you've decided this is a rant but the objective observer would know that all I want is a solution to at least the 3 issues mentioned. I spent the better part of 2 nights with techs that had me doing all the standard refresh items, i.e. setting the PRAM... and as time goes on my frustration grows. Last week spent days trying to find the driver software Maverick now needs and Apple is supposed to have it and doesn't. So at what point does this become a rant? I've done things the right way had mucho patience thus far and as a kicker, Apple won't let me download Mountain Lion to reinstall and rid my self of Maverick. Tell me, would you complain?

I did the SMC reset and that did shut down the computer (did not notice if the power adaptor lite blinked) when pushed power button (after waiting approx. 30sec.) to see if computer would display same message -- it did! Here is report:

MIDI Inputs on AUDIGY 2 ZS Platinum Pro in Vi
Ever since the Vista install, I have no MIDI on this card. I have cleaned all drivers and reinstalled several times. Still, no MIDI. Can anyone please help?
LarryI don't understand. First of all, the MIDI inputs work with the XP drivers (but the sound card doesn't), so I know the hardware is able to be seen by the software. I understand that MS removed MIDI support from the OS, but shouldn't the drivers recognize the ports on the card and use them? I also believe that the MIDI ports worked under Vista when I first did the upgrade. They only stopped working when I upgraded the mother board and CPU in the PC. So what gives?Larry

I just upgraded to 10.7.3 and now I can't install any applications.
I just upgraded to 10.7.3 and now I can't install any applications. Everything else in the OS and in applications seems to work OK. After the installers ask for the system password, they do nothing. I doesn't hang; it just won't proceed any further in the install process. I can press the back button and it seems to do that just fine. I repaired the disk permissions, but to no avail.
After I installed 10.7.3, I tried to install an updater that was listed as being recommended for Time Machine users. That was the first time I tried to launch an installer of any sort and it did the same as above. I've gathered since then that the update wasn't necessary and was already included in the 10.7.3 I loaded today.
Any hints?I'm having a similar problem after installing 10.7.3 and the Messages beta. I've unistalled Mesages with little bit of trouble.. Linc, I followed the step given in your final post any help would be appreciated.
A screenshot of my actual error. I get this error not just for Flash, but also Handbrake. I receieve th error even when I try using a programs automatic update. However, not suprisingly I do not get the message when using Apple's software update.

Hello,
I'm using java.sound to get MIDI messages from a "physical" midi input.
I get a rather strange behaviour, since some time, the "Midi input" get stuck, and I don't get message from the input.
To be clearer: everything works as intended : I open the device, I get incoming messages... and sometimes, the incoming messages are "lost". If I try to close the corresponding MIDI device, my program freeze... No exception are raised, my program is not CPU consumming, and I'm not able to determine the conditions that leads to this behaviour.
I'm using the last JRE under windows (XP).
I tried the MidiInDump example from jsressource, and I get a similar behaviour.
My problem now is that I don't know what to do to find out the problem. Is there a way to diagnose this kind of problem?
The MIDI interface I use is a "generic" one, that is, it used the standard MIDI driver from windows (no proprietary driver installed)...
Is there a way to size the incoming MIDI buffer?
Any clue?
Any suggestion to track the problem would be grealty appreciated.Holly,
Have you opened the Audio MIDI Setup app on your mac? It's found in your Launchpad app (on your doc) and Other folder it should be in there. Make sure your MIDI keyboard is recognized and configured for the mac. Also look at your MIDI settings within Logic as well. -
Since installing Yosemite, I have no sound.
Since Installing Yosemite, I have No sound. There is no sound if I use headphones either.
There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Can't stream to multiple speakers.
Just got a second Airport Express for my birthday and I connected it to my network. When I try to stream to more than one base station it says that neither supports playback as part of a group. I can do my computer's speakers and either base station;
